THERE USED TO BE LIKE SEASONS TO FASHION, AND NOW IT'S JUST CONTINUOUS. SO THERE'S A LOT OF WASTE BEING CREATED BY THE FASHION INDUSTRY THE WAY IT'S RUNNING NOW. AND THE KIDS APPLIED THIS TO THEIR OWN EXPERIENCE AND SAID, WHY DO WE HAVE TO BUY THESE GRADUATION GOWNS THAT ARE BASICALLY SINGLE USE? AND THEY'RE SYNTHETIC MATERIALS THAT ARE NOT EASILY RECYCLED OR REUSED. AND SO IT WAS REALLY INTERESTING TO HEAR THEM RAISE THESE ISSUES. SOMETHING THAT I WOULD NOT HAVE PROBABLY THOUGHT TO SURFACE. WHETHER IT'S FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE DISABLED, PEOPLE WHO ARE HAVING LGBTQ SUPPORT ORGANIZATIONS, THE RED CROSS. JUST A WIDE VARIETY OF ORGANIZATIONS. IT WAS A WONDERFUL EVENT. AND FINALLY, I GOT TO PARTICIPATE IN EXIT INTERVIEWS WITH SENIORS AT EDMONDS HEIGHTS, PROBABLY SOME OF TATIANA'S FRIENDS, BECAUSE I THINK THREE OF THE FOUR WERE THEATER PEOPLE AND ONE WAS AN ARTIST. AND IT WAS REALLY INTERESTING TO HEAR ABOUT THEIR EXPERIENCES. YOU KNOW, JUST ANOTHER PERSPECTIVE. LIKE WE HAVE SIX PERSPECTIVES THAT WE GET HERE AT THE BOARD, BUT TO HAVE THOSE ADDITIONAL PERSPECTIVES AND HAVE A MORE IN-DEPTH CONVERSATION ABOUT THE WHOLE EXPERIENCE IN EDMONDS SCHOOL DISTRICT AND WHAT THEY WERE GOING TO DO, HOW THEY GOT THERE. AND, OF COURSE, EDMONDS HEIGHTS IS KIND OF A UNIQUE GROUP OF STUDENTS WHO SOMETIMES HAVE STARTED IN OTHER SCHOOLS THAT DIDN'T WORK AS WELL FOR THEM AS THE PROGRAM THERE. SO THAT WAS ALSO VERY INTERESTING TO HEAR. SO I'D LIKE TO PARTICIPATE IN MORE OF THOSE OR FIGURE OUT MORE WAYS TO GATHER STUDENT INPUT IN THE FUTURE. THANK YOU. DIRECTOR CRAMER. THANK YOU. WHEN WE THINK ABOUT PUBLIC EDUCATION, WHEN I FIRST GOT INTO PUBLIC EDUCATION AS A TEACHER AND THEN A PRINCIPAL, [01:20:08] I ALWAYS THOUGHT ABOUT WHAT'S THE PURPOSE OF IT, YOU KNOW? AND I'VE ALWAYS FELT THAT THE PURPOSE IS TO NOT ONLY PROVIDE THE SKILLS, THE LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES SO THAT THEY CAN LEARN AND BE ABLE TO DO ALL THE THINGS THAT THEY NEED TO DO TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN SCHOOL AND BEYOND. BUT I ALWAYS FELT LIKE THAT WAS HALF OF OUR JOBS. THE OTHER HALF WAS TO HELP RAISE CHILDREN WITH A SENSE OF FORTITUDE OF CHARACTER, TO DO THE RIGHT THING AND TO SPEAK THEIR TRUTH, AND TO REPRESENT THEIR PEERS AND TO PUSH CHANGE FORWARD IN A POSITIVE AND POWERFUL WAY. AND TONIGHT, JUST LISTENING TO YOUR FAREWELLS WE HAVE SOMEONE THAT'S GOING TO BECOME A PSYCHIATRIST, A CHEMIST. ALREADY, WE HAVE AN AUTHOR. TATIANA, I THINK IF YOU GO INTO ANY PR WORK LIKE THAT, THAT'S YOUR JAM. WE HAVE REPRESENTATIVES FROM TECHNOLOGY AND ENGINEERING, DESIGN, BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION AND SOCIAL CHANGE AGENTS. THE LEVEL OF ART THAT WE HAVE IN THIS DISTRICT, THE THESPIANS THAT WE HAVE, THE MUSICIANS THAT WE HAVE, THE ATHLETES THAT WE HAVE. I MEAN, YES, THIS DISTRICT IS BIG. AND WE OFTEN THINK OF IT AS THIS BIG INSTITUTION. BUT IN THE END, IT'S ABOUT HELPING OUR KIDS DEVELOP ALL THE SKILLS THAT WE WANT THEM TO, BUT ALSO THAT SENSE OF DOING WHAT'S RIGHT SO THAT THEY CAN CONTRIBUTE TO CREATING A BETTER SOCIETY FOR ALL OF US. AND THAT HOPE IS SO LARGE IN ME TONIGHT AFTER LISTENING TO ALL OF YOU. SO GOOD LUCK IN YOUR FUTURE ENDEAVORS, THANK YOU. THANK YOU, DIRECTOR SMITH.
