TWO IN ADDITION, ASKED FOR SUPPORT OF THE STUDENT INTERVENTION COORDINATORS, AND ONE IN ADDITION ASKED FOR SUPPORT OF MIDDLE SCHOOL ATHLETICS. THOSE WILL ALL BE ATTACHED TO TONIGHT'S AGENDA.

TONIGHT'S FIRST IN-PERSON PUBLIC COMMENT IS RUBY CRETIN.

DID I SAY THAT RIGHT? OKAY. MY NAME IS RUBY CRETIN. I LIVE IN LINWOOD. I AM 14 AND I AM AN EIGHTH GRADER AT MEADOWDALE MIDDLE SCHOOL.

I ALSO ATTENDED BEVERLY ELEMENTARY. MY MOM IS AN INTENSIVE SUPPORT PARAEDUCATOR AT BEVERLY ELEMENTARY.

I HAVE PLAYED BASEBALL SINCE I WAS FIVE YEARS OLD IN PACIFIC LITTLE LEAGUE.

LAST SEASON, I WAS THE FIRST GIRL TO MAKE A PACIFIC LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL ALL STAR TEAM IN OUR LEAGUE 61 YEAR HISTORY.

THIS SEASON, I AM THE FIRST GIRL EVER TO PLAY JUNIORS BASEBALL IN PACIFIC LITTLE LEAGUE.

I ALSO PLAY SOFTBALL TOO. I PLAYED SOFTBALL FOR MIDDLE TO MIDDLE SCHOOL FOR THE LAST TWO SEASONS.

I WANT TO THANK THE EDMONDS SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR YOUR PARTNERSHIP WITH PACIFIC LITTLE LEAGUE OVER THE YEARS.

I GREW UP AT LINDALE PARK AND IT IS A VERY SPECIAL PLACE TO ME.

PACIFIC LITTLE LEAGUE SERVED OVER A THOUSAND PLAYERS AND THEIR FAMILIES LAST SEASON.

EVERY SEASON WE HAVE A CELEBRATION OF PACIFIC LITTLE LEAGUE AT LINDALE PARK.

WE CALL IT LITTLE LEAGUE DAY. WE HAVE A PLAYER PARADE, FUN GAMES AND A COACH HOME RUN DERBY, WHICH MY DAD WILL NEVER WIN. IT IS SO MUCH FUN TO SPEND LITTLE LEAGUE DAY WITH MY FRIENDS.

I'M GOING TO READ THE LITTLE LEAGUE PLEDGE DURING THE CEREMONY AT LITTLE LEAGUE DAY.

I WANT TO INVITE YOU ALL TO ATTEND THE LITTLE LEAGUE TO ATTEND LITTLE LEAGUE DAY AT LINDALE.

DURING THE CEREMONY AT LITTLE LEAGUE DAY, I WANT, OH, THIS YEAR WE ARE GOING TO HAVE TWO DUNK TANKS AT LITTLE LEAGUE DAY.

IT COSTS $5 FOR THREE THROWS AT THE PERSON WHO IS IN THE DUNK TANK.

I WANT TO CHALLENGE EACH OF YOU NOT JUST TO COME TO LITTLE LEAGUE DAY, BUT TO GET IN THE DUNK TANK, YOU CAN HELP PACIFIC LITTLE LEAGUE RAISE MONEY SO WE CAN BUY EQUIPMENT FOR OUR PLAYERS AND HELP MAINTAIN THE FIELDS AT LINDALE PARK.

HI, MY NAME IS KRISTY LIU AND MY FAMILY RESIDES IN MOUNTLAKE TERRACE.

I HAVE I'M A MOTHER OF TWO STUDENTS, ONE FIFTH GRADER AT TERRACE PARK ELEMENTARY IN THE HIGH CAP PROGRAM, AND ONE SECOND GRADER AT COLLEGE PLACE ELEMENTARY IN THE DUAL LANGUAGE PROGRAM.

I'M HERE TO STRONGLY URGE THE SCHOOL BOARD TO STOP USING MUSIC, PERFORMING ARTS AS AN EXPENDABLE LINE ITEM IN THE BUDGET AND KEEP FUNDING THE SIXTH GRADE BAND AND ORCHESTRA. I FIND IT ATROCIOUS THAT THE SCHOOL BOARD CELEBRATES AND PROMOTES PERFORMING ARTS IN ITS VITALITY.

WHILE OUR COMMUNITY IS GOING ON TO OUR THIRD YEAR OF WATCHING THAT VERY SAME SCHOOL BOARD, SLOWLY DISMANTLE AND DISPOSE OF THESE PROGRAMS. A STUDENT CANNOT PICK UP AN INSTRUMENT IN SEVENTH GRADE AND BE AS COMPETENT AS SOMEONE WHO'S BEEN PLAYING SINCE FIFTH, WITH EVERY YEAR TAKEN AWAY FROM OUR STUDENTS.

YOU PUT THEM AT A DISADVANTAGE TO EVER BEING AS PROFICIENT AND ABLE TO COMPETE AGAINST OTHER STUDENTS AND SCHOOLS.

IT ISN'T SIMPLY THAT THESE SKILLS TAKE YEARS OF PRACTICE AND EXPERIENCE TO HONE.

IT IS ALSO THE ACT OF CREATING THE MUSIC WITHIN A GROUP THAT REQUIRES CULTIVATION.

ALL PERFORMING ARTS, EQUAL LEARNING TO WORK IN COMMUNITY.

IT REQUIRES LISTENING, COOPERATION, INCLUSION AND COLLABORATION AND OUR CURRENT STATE OF THE WORLD.

I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY A SCHOOL DISTRICT WOULD DO SUCH A DISSERVICE TO ITS STUDENTS BY TAKING THIS LEARNING OPPORTUNITY AWAY FROM THEM.

FURTHERMORE, THOSE GRADUATION RATES YOU ARE PRIORITIZING, THESE PERFORMING ARTS KEEP STUDENTS IN THE BUILDING.

WHEN DECIDING WHERE TO PURCHASE OUR HOME, WE MADE STAYING WITHIN THE EDMONDS SCHOOL DISTRICT BOUNDARIES A REQUIREMENT.

NOW I'M CONCERNED WE MADE THE WRONG CHOICE. I HAVE WATCHED MY DAUGHTER'S HEART GET BROKEN BY ALL THESE BUDGET CUTS, AND HEAR HER JEALOUSY TOWARDS UPPERCLASSMEN WHO ARE AFFORDED THE OPPORTUNITIES THAT KEEP BEING TAKEN AWAY FROM HER.

I HAVE CALLED, WRITTEN, AND ATTENDED TOWN HALLS FOR MY STATE REPRESENTATIVES, SO NOW I AM HERE TO SAY PLEASE LISTEN TO THE COMMUNITY THAT ELECTED YOU.

THE COMMUNITY SAYS OVER AND OVER TO SAVE THE ARTS SOMEWHAT SEPARATELY.

THE BALANCING ACT SURVEYS ARE THE WORST FORM OF FALSE DEMOCRACY.

THE SCHOOL BOARD ONLY PROVIDES ITEMS YOU ARE WILLING TO ELIMINATE.

OUR COMMUNITY IS THEN PRESENTED WITH A SIMPLIFIED AND INADEQUATE EXPLANATION OF SERVICES AND PROGRAMS SELECTED TO BE ON THAT CHOPPING BLOCK.

FURTHERMORE, THE SURVEY BEING PRESENTED IS DISINGENUOUS AT BEST.

IT THIS COMMUNITY RALLIES BEHIND PERFORMING ARTS AND IT IS STILL ELIMINATED.

THIS BOARD IS SOWING CYNICISM AND DISTRUST, AND I STRONGLY URGE YOU TO BE CAREFUL.

I'M GOING TO TAKE A SCREECHING LEFT TURN [INAUDIBLE] AND SAY THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM FOR KIDS WHO ARE ADVANCED IN HIGH SCHOOL AND TAKING AP CLASSES AND THE SCHOOL YEAR STARTING IN SEPTEMBER AND THEIR AP EXAMS HAPPENING IN MID-MAY, AND THEN THEM BEING EXPECTED TO STAY AT SCHOOL FOR ANOTHER SIX WEEKS, OR IF THEY'RE A SENIOR, ONLY FOUR WEEKS.

I DON'T KNOW HOW TO FIX IT, BUT IT'S A SIGNIFICANT PROBLEM THAT HAPPENS EVERY YEAR TO THE KIDS WHO ARE STAYING AND GRADUATING AND GOING TO COLLEGE, AND IT'S JUST LOSING THEM 4 TO 6 WEEKS OF EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE AND CRAMMING THAT DOWN THEIR THROATS ON WEEKENDS AND I DON'T LIKE IT. YES, THANK YOU VERY MUCH. THIS REDUCED EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM REPRESENTS A POTENTIAL HIGHWATER MARK FOR US. THERE ARE STILL MANY, MANY FACTORS IN PLAY, INCLUDING THE LEGISLATURE AND SO WHAT WE WILL PRESENT TO YOU FOR A SECOND READING WILL NOT EXCEED THIS. OTHER THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND ABOUT THIS IS THIS DOES NOT REPRESENT ANY BUDGET IMPACTS.

SO WE DID NOT RAISE CLASS SIZES TO THAT'S NOT A PART OF THIS NUMBER.

WE DIDN'T CHANGE ANY STAFFING RATIOS OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT.

THIS NUMBER OF A MAXIMUM OF 12 CERTIFICATED STAFF AND THIS THIS RESOLUTION ONLY RESPONDS TO CERTIFICATED STAFF, REPRESENTS, IN SOME CASES PARTIAL FTE. MAYBE AT ONE SCHOOL THERE HAD BEEN 22.0 CLASSES OF STUDENTS.

SO TEN CLASSES OF STUDENTS TAKING CELL PHONE USE.

I'LL JUST MAKE SOMETHING UP AND NEXT YEAR ONLY 1.8 HAVE SIGNED UP AND THE TEACHERS ARE ONLY CERTIFICATED TO THEY ONLY HAVE CERTIFICATES THAT WOULD ALLOW THEM TO TEACH THAT SPECIFIC THING. SO IN SOME CASES IS PARTIAL FTE OF A TEACHER.

IN SOME CASES IT DOES REPRESENT A LITTLE BIT OF ENROLLMENT DECLINE IN A BUILDING, ETC.

BUT IT'S STILL THAT BALANCING FROM STAFFING ETC.

AND AGAIN, THE UNKNOWN OF THE LEGISLATURE IT'S ALWAYS BEEN MY ENTIRE CAREER, A HARDSHIP IN THIS STATE THAT WE ARE REQUIRED TO DELIVER RESOLUTIONS BY MAY 15TH. HONESTLY, I WOULDN'T CHANGE THAT BECAUSE IF I WAS GOING TO BE RIFFED, I WOULD WANT TO KNOW BY MAY 15TH SO I COULD PUT MYSELF OUT ONTO THE JOB MARKET AND TRY TO FIND SOMETHING ELSE. BUT OFTEN IT JUST DOESN'T GIVE US VERY MUCH TIME, ESPECIALLY IN THESE LONG SESSIONS IN BETWEEN.

THE NUMBER WILL NOT GO UP FROM THIS. 12 IS THE ABSOLUTE HIGH WATER MARK AT THIS POINT.

AND HOPEFULLY WE'LL BE MORE POSITIVE THAN NOTHING.

ANYTHING IS MORE POSITIVE THAN NOTHING. BUT I DO WANT THE COMMUNITY TO KNOW THAT THE REASON WHY WE'RE SORT OF QUIET IS BECAUSE WE HAVE LOOKED AT THIS INFORMATION IN SO MANY DIFFERENT WAYS. BUT AGAIN, AS A REMINDER, THOUGH, WE DID NOT CHANGE ANY STAFFING RATIOS, WE DID NOT. I MEAN, FRANKLY, I JUST DON'T THINK WE HAVE ANY WIGGLE ROOM IN STAFFING RATIOS ANYMORE.

WE HAVE DONE ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING WE CAN THERE AND PROBABLY GONE SOMEWHAT BEYOND THAT BASED ON THE BUDGETARY NEEDS WE'VE HAD TO DO.

AND SO THIS DOES NOT REPRESENT, YOU KNOW, LIKE, OH, WE'RE RAISING CLASS SIZE IN FIFTH GRADE. THIS DOESN'T REPRESENT LARGER CLASSES AT THE HIGH SCHOOL. THIS ONLY REPRESENTS SOME OF THOSE OTHER KINDS OF THINGS THAT I DESCRIBED.

THANK YOU. I JUST WANTED TO SAY THAT THOSE. ARE THAT'S WE HAVE A NUMBER 12, BUT WE'RE ALSO TALKING ABOUT PEOPLE WHOSE CAREERS ARE TO BE EDUCATORS AND IT'S VERY DIFFICULT. I WANT TO RECOGNIZE THE DIFFICULTY FOR THOSE PEOPLE OF BEING TOLD THAT THEY DON'T HAVE A JOB HERE NEXT YEAR.

AND I KNOW THAT IN THE PAST, WE'VE BEEN ABLE TO BRING BACK THOSE PEOPLE MOST MANY OF THOSE PEOPLE WHICH IS GREAT, BUT IT CREATES A VERY STRESSFUL TIME IN THE MEANTIME.

SO THERE'S NOTHING I DON'T THINK THERE'S ANYTHING TO DO ABOUT THAT DIFFERENT THAN WHAT WE WERE DOING HERE TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR OUR BUDGET AND FOR THE NUMBERS. BUT I JUST WANTED TO BRING THAT FORWARD, THAT THERE, THAT IT IS PEOPLE WHO ARE BEING SUBJECTED TO DIFFICULT CIRCUMSTANCES FROM THIS PROCESS.

THEY NEEDED TO KEEP THE I ACTUALLY SAID THE ORIGINAL NUMBERS THAT WERE IN THE ORIGINAL BILLS BECAUSE LAST YEAR WHEN THEY HAD GOOD BILLS LIKE THIS, WE SAW THEM CUT OR KILLED. I WAS JUST I SAID, DON'T DO THAT.

I THINK WE GOT AN EMAIL NOW THAT SAID, THERE ARE ALL THE LOBBYISTS ARE LIKE SITTING AROUND WAITING, RIGHT, AND WAITING FOR SOMETHING LIKE IF THEY GET A MESSAGE.

SO I'M LIKE, WELL, I'M NOT GOING TO OLYMPIA, BUT MAYBE THIS IS A WAY TO GET IT TO THOSE TWO WHO ARE KEY.

I DON'T KNOW. WELL, YOU KNOW, I THINK THAT THIS IS A TOUGH TIME WHERE THE NEGOTIATIONS ARE HAPPENING AND, YOU KNOW, WE DO HAVE, YOU KNOW, WASHINGTON STATE CONSTITUTION, THE PARAMOUNT DUTY AND AS WE KNOW, WE'RE FACING BUDGET CUTS. AND IT'S VERY DEPENDENT ON WHAT HAPPENS IN THE NEXT 12 DAYS AND, YOU KNOW, IF ANYBODY IN OUR COMMUNITY WISHES TO REMIND EVERYONE OF THEIR PARAMOUNT DUTY AND HOW THEY FEEL ABOUT THE BUDGET CUTS THAT OUR DISTRICT IS FACING RIGHT NOW AFTER YEARS OF BUDGET CUTS ALREADY.

YOU KNOW, WE HAVE THE INFORMATION ON THE WEBSITE TO PARTICIPATE AND THE FACT THAT IT'S NOT JUST US, IN FACT, IT'S THEIR DISTRICTS THAT ARE BIGGER THAN US AND MORE ROBUST, YOU'D THINK, IN TERMS OF THEIR COMMUNITIES THAT ARE IN FUNDING WARNING, WHICH MEANS THEY'RE THE NEXT STEP BEFORE THE BANKRUPTCY OR BINDING CONDITIONS AND IT'S CLEARLY A STATEWIDE PROBLEM.

AND FOR A STATE LIKE THIS THAT PRIDES ITSELF ON HIGH EXCELLENCE, PREPARING OUR KIDS FOR THE HIGH TECH WORLD AND THE GLOBAL NEEDS THAT WE HAVE FOR THEM TO BE SHORTING EDUCATION IS KIND OF SHOCKING.

SO THERE IS ONE OTHER THING TOO, WITH WSSDA. I MEAN, YES, I AGREE 100%.

PROPOSAL WINDOW FOR ANY CHANGES IN THE LEGISLATIVE OR PERMANENT POSITIONS WAS IS OPEN RIGHT NOW.

WHEN COMMUNITY MEMBERS COME AND THEY TALK ABOUT WHAT THEY'RE PASSIONATE ABOUT IN THE BUDGET, THAT REALLY HELPS ME AS A STUDENT TO FEEL LIKE YOU GUYS ACTUALLY CARE ABOUT WHAT HAPPENS TO ALL OF US AND LIKE, IN THE WAY OF OUR EDUCATION AND I THINK, FOR ME AT LEAST, THE REASON WHY I COME TO THESE AND THE REASON WHY I CHOOSE TO BE A STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE ON THE BOARD, IS BECAUSE I FEEL THAT SO MANY OF THE THINGS THAT HAPPEN IN OUR WORLD START AT EDUCATION AND START LIKE WHEN WE ARE KIDS AND IN OUR FORMATIVE YEARS OF BEING EDUCATED AND BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT WE ALL HAVE IN COMMON.

BUDGETING IS SUPER IMPORTANT, AND I'M GLAD TO SEE SO MANY PEOPLE THAT CARE ABOUT IT. NOW ON TO SOME MORE LIGHTHEARTED UPDATES FROM MY SCHOOL.

WE JUST HAD SPRING BREAK, AND SO COMING BACK, YOU KNOW, IT'S JUST A LITTLE BIT LIKE GET EVERYONE'S MORE CHILL AND I REALLY LIKE THAT.

I ACTUALLY AM ALSO A RUNNING START STUDENT, SO IT WASN'T FULLY A SPRING BREAK FOR SOME OF US HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS AT MY SCHOOL, BUT IT WAS NICE TO HAVE A PARTIAL BREAK IN THE FIRST WEEK OF RUNNING.

START CLASSES AREN'T SUPER LIKE INTENSE YET. ANYWAYS SO THAT WAS NICE.

MY SCHOOL ALSO HAD SOME PERFORMANCES OF OUR YOUNGEST LEVEL OF MUSICAL THEATER, WHICH WAS JUNGLE BOOK.

I WENT AND SAW IT. IT WAS BEAUTIFULLY DONE. I LOVED SEEING THE YOUNGER KIDS SHOWS, AND SOMETHING NICE ABOUT BEING A PART OF A K12 IS THAT SO MANY OF THE OLDER STUDENTS GO TO THE YOUNGER STUDENTS SHOWS, AND VICE VERSA. AND I GREW UP GOING TO SEE THE KIDS THAT ARE NOW MY AGES SHOWS OR LIKE THE KIDS THAT THE KIDS THAT ARE MY AGE LIKE THAT WERE MY AGE WHEN I WAS YOUNGER.

I WENT TO SEE THEIR SHOWS A LOT AND SO NOW BEING AN OLDER STUDENT, GOING TO YOUNGER STUDENT SHOWS IS LIKE A GREAT CONTINUITY IN MY LIFE AND I THINK FOR A LOT OF US OLDER STUDENTS AND WE HAVE COMING UP SPONGEBOB PERFORMANCES FOR OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL AGE LEVEL.

AND THEN I WILL BE PERFORMING IN THE OUR HIGH SCHOOL PRODUCTION, WHICH IS HADESTOWN.

NEXT MONTH AT THE BEGINNING OF NEXT MONTH AND SO PLEASE BUY TICKETS AND COME AND SEE IT.

IT'S GOING TO BE REALLY LOVELY, AND WE'VE PUT A LOT OF HARD WORK INTO IT.

THIS LAST WEEK, WE HAD TWO DIFFERENT OUTREACHES AT LIBRARIES TO YOUNGER STUDENTS IN THE COMMUNITY, LIKE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND EVEN LIKE SOME PRESCHOOL STUDENTS, WHERE WE TAUGHT ABOUT STEM AND THE IMPORTANCE OF ROBOTICS IN OUR LIFE AND THAT WAS REALLY GREAT. WE HAD A GREAT TURNOUT FOR THOSE. TODAY I ALSO ATTENDED A STUDENT ADVISORY BOARD MEETING AT MY SCHOOL.

WHERE WE TALKED ABOUT HOW TO MAKE STUDENTS FEEL MORE SAFE IN OUR CLASSROOMS AND WHAT WE'RE ALREADY DOING FOR THAT, AND WHAT A LOT OF THE KIDS AT THE TABLE SAID THAT THEY FELT GOOD ABOUT ALREADY IS THAT THERE'S SO MUCH RESPECT FOR, LIKE NAMES AND PRONOUNS AT OUR SCHOOL, WHICH I THINK IS A REALLY STRONG POINT OF MY SCHOOL, IS THAT A LOT OF STUDENTS FEEL SAFE IN THEIR IDENTITIES, AND WE TALKED A LOT ABOUT THAT TODAY.

IN THIRD PLACE, WE BROUGHT HOME TWO AWARDS MEDALS.

WEBMASTER TEAM AND THEN EDMONDS LEONA PLACING THIRD IN PUBLIC SPEAKING.

WE BROUGHT HOME TWO SECOND PLACES, WHICH IS EDMONDS-WOODWAY CHILDREN'S STORIES TEAM AND EDMONDS-WOODWAY ENGINEERING DESIGN TEAM.

AND THEN LASTLY WE BROUGHT HOME FOUR FIRST PLACES, WHICH IS KIND OF AWESOME.

AND YEAH, WE'RE ALL LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NATIONAL CONFERENCE, WHICH IS GOING TO BE IN NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE. SO, I MEAN, I'VE BEEN IN THIS ORGANIZATION SINCE MIDDLE SCHOOL, AND IT WAS GREAT TO SORT OF END OFF OUR LAST OR MY LAST STATE CONFERENCE AS A COMPETITOR WITH A BOOM, BECAUSE THE WHOLE DISTRICT WENT WELL, I THINK I DID PRETTY WELL AND YEAH, I'M REALLY EXCITED TO SEE HOW NATIONALS GOES AND I'M REALLY HAPPY THAT THESE PAST FIVE YEARS HAVE BEEN SUPPORTED AND JUST HOW GREAT THEY'VE BEEN THROUGH THE EDMOND SCHOOL DISTRICT AND FOR TSA IN GENERAL.

I THINK I ENDED UP ON THE BECCA LIST DURING THAT TIME, ACTUALLY.

LIKE, I JUST THERE WAS NO REASON FOR ME TO SHOW UP.

ONE THING THAT CONCERNED US IS THAT THE FAILURE RATE FOR NINTH GRADERS WHO ARE TAKING ALGEBRA ONE, SO THAT JUST DOESN'T COUNT THE KIDS WHO TAKE ALGEBRA ONE AS SEVENTH OR EIGHTH GRADERS, BUT THE NINTH GRADERS WHO ARE TAKING IT.

THE FAILURE RATE IS JUST TOO HIGH. IT IS MUCH HIGHER THAN FOR ANY OTHER CLASS.

SO WE DISCUSSED WITH DISTRICT STAFF. STRATEGIES THAT ARE BEING USED, STRATEGIES THAT WE MIGHT USE IN THE FUTURE AND WAYS THAT WE CAN ADDRESS THIS KEEP THE GOOD THINGS GETTING BETTER AND TRYING TO ADDRESS THE PLACES WHERE WE HAVE CONCERNS.

SO I JUST I WANT THE COMMUNITY TO BE AWARE OF THAT KIND OF WORK THAT WE'RE DOING.

ALSO, JUST BEFORE SPRING BREAK WITH DOCTOR MINER, I VISITED LINWOOD HIGH SCHOOL.

SO THIS YEAR I MADE IT A GOAL TO VISIT ALL FOUR HIGH SCHOOLS.

EVERY YEAR I TRY TO GET TO ABOUT HALF THE SCHOOLS WITH DOCTOR MINER, BUT I USUALLY ONLY GO TO THE SCHOOLS MOSTLY IN MY REPRESENTATIVE DISTRICT. BUT THIS TIME I WANTED TO VISIT ALL FOUR HIGH SCHOOLS AND I WAS ALSO AT SCRIBER LAKE, BUT FOR A DIFFERENT PURPOSE. BUT IT WAS REALLY FUN TO SEE.

LINWOOD WAS GREAT, THE CLIMATE WAS GREAT, THE FEELING WAS GREAT.

WE NOTICED THAT EVEN WHEN THE KIDS WERE EATING LUNCH.

IT WAS VERY QUIET, QUIETER THAN AN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL LUNCHROOM.

THEY WERE REALLY CHILL. STUDENTS WERE ENGAGED IN EVERYTHING THEY WERE DOING.

THEY THEY WERE ALL DOING STANDARDS BASED WORK.

IT WASN'T BUSY WORK. IT WAS IMPORTANT COGNITIVE WORK THAT THEY WERE DOING OR CREATIVE WORK.

FROM CHEF, REALLY GREAT THINGS BEING DONE THERE AND IN THEIR HORTICULTURAL PROGRAM TO SCIENCE,

TO MATH, TO ENGLISH, TO SOCIAL STUDIES. IT WAS ANYWAY REALLY ENJOYED THAT VISIT.

I WANTED TO MENTION THERE ARE SOME GREAT STRATEGIES AFTER AP TESTS THAT CAN BE DONE.

AND I WANT TO MENTION MY HUSBAND TAUGHT US AP HISTORY IN ANOTHER DISTRICT, AND WHAT HE DID AFTER THE AP TEST WAS HE GAVE HIS STUDENTS A HISTORY AS ART PROJECT AND THE KIDS LOVED IT.

IT WAS VERY OPEN ENDED. IT HAD CERTAIN THINGS THAT THEY HAD TO DO TO SHOW.

JUST PICK A QUOTE FROM ANYWHERE AND DEVELOP ANY KIND OF ART.

AND THOSE KIDS ALL CAME AND THEY REALLY WORKED ON IT.

AND OUR HOUSE IS FULL OF THESE THAT HE HAS BROUGHT HOME.

HE'S RETIRED NOW THAT ARE SOME ARE JUST BRILLIANT.

SO HERE, AFTER LOTS OF FACTS AND CONCEPTS AND EVERYTHING, THEY GOT TO TURN THEIR THINKING INTO ART.

SO I'D LOVE TO SEE THAT HAPPEN ACROSS ALL. THERE ARE LOTS OF THINGS THAT COULD BE DONE THAT ARE APPLICATION AND CREATIVE AND AND KEEP THEM EXCITED AS THEY THINK ABOUT THAT. SO ABOUT THE BUDGET, I'M GOING TO TAKE A DIFFERENT TACK THAN DIRECTOR CRAMER.

I'M GOING TO BE OPTIMISTIC. I BELIEVE AFTER BEING ON THE BOARD, HOWEVER MANY YEARS THAT I'VE BEEN ON THE BOARD NOW, PARTICULARLY OVER THE LAST THREE, I FEEL LIKE THERE'S UNDERSTANDING AT THE LEGISLATIVE LEVEL OF WHAT THE SITUATION IS, AND I DON'T I DIDN'T FEEL THAT BEFORE. I FEEL LIKE THERE'S STRONG PUSHES, AND I APPRECIATE THE GOVERNOR KEEPING IT AS A HIGH PRIORITY AND THAT THE COMMUNITY HAS BEEN GREAT AND NOT JUST OUR COMMUNITY, BUT ACROSS THE STATE.

PEOPLE HAVE RISEN UP TO DO TOWN HALLS, TO CALL THEIR LEGISLATORS, TO GO TO OLYMPIA, TO DO WRITTEN COMMENTS, TO PUT IN PRO CONS. I'M GOING TO BE OPTIMISTIC.

I THINK THAT THERE WILL BE NOT FULLY FUNDING, BUT DEFINITELY A GOOD STEP IN THAT DIRECTION.

AND I'M GOING TO JUST LIVE THE NEXT 12 DAYS WITH THAT POSITIVE MINDSET.

I HOPE IT'S TRUE. DOCTOR MINER. I WOULD ONLY ADD A LITTLE BIT TO THE AP DISCUSSION TO SAY THAT WE ARE IN AN AREA OF A STATE WHICH GETS OUT OF SCHOOL VERY LATE, WHICH GETS OUT OF SCHOOL EVEN LATER THAN MOST OF THE STATE IN MUCH OF THE UNITED STATES AND OF COURSE, AP IS A NATIONAL PROGRAM.

THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL IS THE FIRST MONDAY IN AUGUST.

IT IS DIFFICULT IN THIS PART OF THIS STATE TO GET PEOPLE TO GO BACK TO SCHOOL BEFORE LABOR DAY.

SO, YOU KNOW, IF YOU THINK ABOUT MANY DISTRICTS AROUND THE COUNTRY ARE DONE WITH SCHOOL AT MEMORIAL DAY AND THEY DON'T GO TO SCHOOL IN JUNE.

SO IT DOES SKEW US FOR THE AP TEST. SOME PEOPLE HAVE AS MUCH AS SIX WEEKS OF SCHOOL BEFORE WE HAVE A DAY.

IT, YOU KNOW. SO THAT'S ALWAYS BEEN THE REALITY, ALWAYS BEEN OUR TEACHERS IN THIS STATE AND IN MY 30 YEAR CAREER HAVE ALWAYS BEEN TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW DO WE GET ANOTHER MONTH'S WORTH OF AP TEACHING INTO A MONTH SHORTER SCHOOL YEAR? AND THAT'S JUST THEY'RE NOT THEY DON'T CHANGE THE AP DATES FOR US BECAUSE WE GET OUT SO LATE.

THE ONLY THING I WOULD ADD I HAD THE GREAT OPPORTUNITY.

YOU KNOW, I THINK TATIANA SPOKE ABOUT HOW WONDERFUL IT FEELS TO KNOW PEOPLE ARE RALLYING AROUND YOU TO SPEAK TO A CROWD OF PEOPLE, A SOLD OUT CROWD AT THE KIDS IN TRANSITION GALA, AND IT WAS AN AMAZING NIGHT OF PEOPLE IN OUR COMMUNITY JUST COMING FORWARD AND STEPPING UP FOR OUR STUDENTS. THEIR NUMBERS ARE STAGGERING.

YOU KNOW, THE STUDENTS, THEY BUY SHOES FOR THE STUDENTS.

THEY HELP THE FAMILIES AVOID BECOMING UNHOUSED.

JUST IT WAS A MARVELOUS. AND JUST TO LOOK AT ON THAT BIG OF A BANQUET ROOM FULL OF PEOPLE WHO WERE HERE TO SUPPORT OUR KIDS WAS PRETTY SPECIAL.

SO I WAS GRATEFUL FOR THAT. SO THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
