[9. PUBLIC COMMENTS-7:05 pm]
NEXT, WE HAVE PUBLIC COMMENTS. THE GUIDELINES REGARDING PUBLIC COMMENTS ARE ON THE DISTRICT WEBSITE.WE ASK THAT YOU LIMIT YOUR COMMENT TO THREE MINUTES.
A TIMER WILL BE RUNNING SO THAT YOU CAN MONITOR YOUR TIME.
PLEASE BE SURE TO TELL US YOUR NAME, YOUR CITY OF RESIDENCE, YOUR RELATIONSHIP TO THE DISTRICT, AND THE AGENDA ITEM OR SCHOOL DISTRICT TOPIC THAT YOU'RE ADDRESSING TONIGHT.
[00:05:01]
PUBLIC COMMENTS ARE MADE FROM THIS FRONT PODIUM FACING US.AND THE FIRST ONE TONIGHT. OH, BEFORE I SAY THAT, I WOULD LIKE TO POINT OUT WE HAD ONE WRITTEN COMMENT TONIGHT THAT WAS ON SCHOOL SAFETY AND THAT WILL BE POSTED ON THE AGENDA.
AND WE THANK THE PERSON WHO GAVE US THAT COMMENT.
THE FIRST ONE IN PERSON TONIGHT WILL BE SARAH NELSON.
I'M GOING TO PAUSE YOU. I'M NOT SURE THAT PEOPLE CAN HEAR IT.
IF YOU WANT TO. CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW? NO. IS IT ON? IS THE OTHER QUESTION. TAP IT. IT IS ON. OKAY.
WHAT ABOUT NOW? I THINK IT'S BETTER. A LITTLE BIT BETTER.
IF YOU TALK INTO IT, YOU CAN EVEN TAKE IT OFF THE STAND.
OKAY. THIS IS MORE OF MY JAM ANYWAY. SO WE'RE GOING TO START YOUR TIME NOW.
GREAT. THANK YOU SO MUCH. OKAY. THANK YOU. MY NAME IS SARAH NELSON.
AND I'M HERE TODAY JUST TO SPEAK TO THE SCHOOL BOARD.
I WOULD LIKE TO EXPRESS MY JOY AT THE DISCUSSION OF THIS ENDEAVOR, BUT ALSO MY CONCERN ABOUT THE FEASIBILITY AND COSTS WITH OUR CURRENT BUDGET CONSTRAINTS, ESPECIALLY WITH NEXT YEAR, WE'RE ALREADY ASKING THE PEOPLE IN OUR DISTRICT TO DO AN IMMENSE LIFT WITH LIMITED RESOURCES, AND I KNOW YOU ALL HAVE SEEN THAT AND FEEL THAT AS WELL.
WHEN I THINK THAT THESE, THAT TIME AND MONEY COULD BE SPENT, SHIFTED TO MAYBE MAKE MORE EQUITABLE AND CONSISTENT GRADING PRACTICES WITHIN SCHOOL BUILDINGS. SO WHEN I TALK TO STUDENTS ABOUT GRADING, ABOUT CLASSROOM, JUST ABOUT HOW THEIR DAY TO DAY LIFE GOES, THEY SAY ONE OF THE BIGGEST STRESSES IS MOVING FROM CLASSROOM TO CLASSROOM AND SEEING KIND OF SOME INCONSISTENCIES.
ONE TEACHER DOES THIS, THE OTHER TEACHER DOES THIS.
AND SO I THINK SOMETHING THAT WE COULD BE DOING FOR NEXT YEAR IS WITHIN THE BUILDING, WORKING WITH THE STAFF THAT ARE TEACHING THOSE STUDENTS, THE STAKEHOLDERS THAT ARE PRESENT IN FRONT OF US EVERY SINGLE DAY, COMING UP WITH CONSISTENT PRACTICES AND TRAINING WOULD BE LESS TIME CONSUMING.
COST LESS FOR NEXT YEAR. AND ALSO WE COULD START TO KIND OF MAKE SOME INNOVATIVE CHANGES.
ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I REALLY DO SEE AS SOMETHING THAT COULD BE ADDRESSED WITH THAT RESOLUTION IS THAT KIND OF FALSE CONFLATION OF GRADUATION RATES AND CURRENT GRADING PRACTICES. I DON'T REALLY SEE THAT WE CAN GRADE OUR WAY TO INCREASE GRADUATION RATES, BUT RATHER IF WE CAN SHIFT RESOURCES TO HAVING ATTENDANCE INTERVENTIONS, ACADEMIC SUPPORTS, AND MORE TIME FOR STUDENTS AND EDUCATORS TO ENGAGE IN VALUABLE FEEDBACK WITHIN A BUILDING.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH. SARAH. I WANT TO LET YOU KNOW WE DO HAVE A TASK FORCE WORKING ON IT, AND IF YOU'RE NOT CURRENTLY ON IT, YOU'RE ON IT. EXCELLENT. GOOD. THANK YOU. THANK YOU.
NEXT UP IS THERESA HANEY BURNS. IF I CAN MAKE THIS WORK. OKAY. I MYSELF GRADUATED FROM WOODWAY HIGH SCHOOL.
AND THIS IS WHY I'M HERE TODAY. PLEASE REASSESS THE NEED FOR RESOURCE OFFICERS IN OUR COMMUNITY.
SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICERS, OR SROS, ARE MEMBERS OF THE LAW ENFORCEMENT COMMUNITY WHO TEACH, COUNSEL AND PROTECT THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY. WHILE SROS ARE INTEGRATED INTO A SCHOOL SYSTEM, THE BENEFIT GOES BEYOND REDUCE VIOLENCE IN SCHOOLS, THE OFFICERS OFTEN BUILD RELATIONSHIPS WITH THE STUDENTS WHILE SERVING AS A RESOURCE, AS A RESOURCE TO STUDENTS, TEACHERS, AND ADMINISTRATORS TO HELP SOLVE THE PROBLEMS. THIS WAS WRITTEN BY THE WHITE HOUSE IN 2013. I ALSO HAVE SOME RESEARCH THAT WAS DONE BY A WOMAN
[00:10:07]
NAMED ALICIA KIRBY, WHO BLOGGED ON THE CSBA ORGANIZATION.AND THIS HAS MORE PROS AND CONS TO IT, WHICH I WILL LIKE TO ADDRESS.
THIS WAS QUOTED BY HER SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICERS SHOULD BE IN EVERY SCHOOL.
WHEN SROS ARE INTEGRATED INTO A SCHOOL SYSTEM, THE BENEFIT GOES BEYOND REDUCE VIOLENCE IN SCHOOLS.
AS A RESULT TO HAVING OFFICERS IN OUR SCHOOLS, STUDIES HAVE SHOWN THIS IS THAT'S WHAT I'D LIKE TO SAY THAT AND THEN QUOTED REDUCES FIGHTS THREATS BY 30% AND INCREASES DETECTION OF FIREARMS BY 150%.
AND THAT WAS HER QUOTE FROM HER ARTICLE. AGAIN, SHE QUOTES THE PRESENCE OF POLICE IN SCHOOL RESULTS IN FEWER FIGHTS BUT HARSHER DISCIPLINE, PARTICULARLY FOR BLACK STUDENTS AND STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES, ACCORDING TO RECENT STUDIES.
PLACING OFFICERS IN OF COLOR AND REPRESENTING ALL DIFFERENT ETHNIC GROUPS WOULD BE IDEAL, AS CHILDREN NEED TO SEE ROLE MODELS THAT MIRROR THEIR IMAGES. THOUGH I CONCEDE RESEARCHING PROS AND CONS.
GOING FORWARD, THERE NEEDS TO BE A STRICTER GUIDELINE TO PROTECT THE STUDENTS, AND THE SCHOOL DISTRICTS NEED TO BE INVOLVED IN WORKING WITH THE SROS TO SET GUIDELINES TO PREVENT UNNECESSARY EXPULSIONS TO PROMOTE. NOBODY IS LEFT BEHIND AND KEEP OUR KIDS IN SCHOOL AND SAFE IS THE TRUE GOAL HERE.
SROS OFFER MORE POSITIVE ROLE MODELS WITH THEIR TRAINING AND EXPERTISE.
THE SIERRA MODEL IS A PROBLEM SOLVING MODEL USED BY LAW ENFORCEMENT TO ADDRESS CRIMINAL ACTIVITY.
IT'S AN ACRONYM FOR THE FOUR STEPS OF THE MODEL.
SCANNING. IDENTIFYING PROBLEMS. PRIORITIZING THEM.
RESPONSE. BRAINSTORM. SOLUTIONS. I'M ALREADY OUT OF MINUTES.
OKAY. W HICH WE APPRECIATE. THAT GIVES US ALL THAT THAT BACKGROUND INFORMATION.
THANK YOU. THANK YOU. NEXT UP IS SARAH DILLING.
I WANTED TO ADDRESS THE ITEM 12.5 ON THE AGENDA.
SPECIFICALLY THE POLICY 3205 ABOUT SEXUAL HARASSMENT OF STUDENTS.
I APPRECIATE THAT DUE TO THE DISTRICT JUDGE IN KENTUCKY MAKING A RULING ON JANUARY 9TH, ALL SCHOOL DISTRICTS ACROSS THE COUNTRY THAT PASSED A UPDATE TO THEIR SEXUAL HARASSMENT POLICY RELATING TO THE INTERPRETATION OF TITLE NINE UNDER THE PREVIOUS ADMINISTRATION ARE NOW HAVING TO ROLL IT BACK.
I ALSO THINK THAT THERE IS SPACE FOR COMMENTS ABOUT WHAT OTHER POLICIES WE HAVE AS A DISTRICT THAT COVER THOSE CASES, EVEN THOUGH THEY AREN'T UNDER TITLE NINE ANYMORE. SO I WOULD APPRECIATE TO HEAR ABOUT THOSE POLICIES FROM YOU AS THIS GOES THROUGH THE FIRST READING AND THE SECOND READING AND GETS ADOPTED, WHICH IT SHOULD IN MY OPINION. ALSO I'M SURE THAT OTHER PUBLIC COMMENTS ARE GOING TO SAY THINGS THAT I DEEM HORRIBLE, POSSIBLY READING THE LANGUAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT.
AND I WANT KIDS TO HEAR THAT THEY CAN TURN THIS OFF.
THEY CAN MUTE THIS. THEY DON'T HAVE TO LISTEN TO THOSE COMMENTS.
THEY DON'T HAVE TO HEAR THOSE HATEFUL THINGS BEING SAID BY THOSE HATEFUL PEOPLE.
THE ORIGINS OF THE WORD WOKE DATE BACK TO AT LEAST 1938.
THAT'S WHEN, IN A SPOKEN AFTERWARD OF SCOTTSBORO BOYS, A PROTEST SONG ABOUT NINE BLACK TEENAGERS WHO WERE ACCUSED OF RAPING TWO WHITE WOMEN IN ALABAMA. BLUES MUSICIAN LEAD BELLY SAID, SO I ADVISE EVERYBODY BE A LITTLE CAREFUL WHEN THEY GO ALONG THROUGH THEIR BEST DAY WOKE.
KEEP THEIR EYES OPEN. THANK YOU. NEXT UP IS JASON
[00:15:05]
MOORE.JASON MOORE. LINWOOD. I HAVE TWO CHARTS WITH ME HERE THIS EVENING.
ONE, THEY'RE FROM EDGEUNOMICS LAB BY GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY, WHICH TRACKS CHANGE IN SPENDING.
WITH REGARDS WITH REGARD TO EDUCATION FOR THE TWO STATES.
WASHINGTON OVER HERE AND FLORIDA HERE. THEY SHOW SPENDING.
THE GREEN LINE INDICATES SPENDING ON THE WASHINGTON ONE.
IT LOOKS LIKE ONE OF ELON MUSK'S ROCKET SHIPS LAUNCHING STRAIGHT OFF THE CHART.
AND THE GRAY LINE IS INFLATION. THE FOURTH GRADE READING SCORES FROM NAEP ARE IN ORANGE, AND THE EIGHTH GRADE MATH SCORES ARE BLUE FROM THE NATIONAL ASSESSMENT OF EDUCATIONAL PROGRESS.
BOTH CHARTS IN THE YEAR THEY START, IN THE YEAR 2013 AND END IN 2024.
I WAS INTERESTED IN COMPARING THESE TWO STATES, BECAUSE FLORIDA HAS A REPUTATION OF BEING ONE OF THE BETTER GOVERNMENT SCHOOL SYSTEMS, AND I WOULD SAY THAT WASHINGTON IS PROBABLY ONE OF THE WORST AS FAR AS RATE OF SPENDING TO TEST SCORES GO.
WHY IS THAT? SO MY QUESTION FOR THIS BOARD IS, HAS ANYONE IN THIS DISTRICT LOOKED AT WHAT OTHER STATES ARE DOING TO ACHIEVE HIGHER OR SIMILAR TEST SCORES WITH USING LESS MONEY PER STUDENT? I WOULD, AND I'M SURE MANY PARENTS IN THIS ROOM AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS THAT ARE LISTENING ONLINE WOULD APPRECIATE AN ANSWER FROM THE BOARD MEMBERS DURING THE BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS THIS EVENING.
SEEING HOW WHENEVER WE BRING UP TRANSGENDER INDOCTRINATION OF STUDENTS, YOU SEEM TO WANT TO INTERRUPT US AND SNAP BACK RIGHT AWAY. SO BY ALL MEANS, SNAP BACK AT THIS ONE, PLEASE.
I DON'T THINK IT TAKES A PHD IN EDUCATION PSYCHOLOGY OR A MASTER'S IN ARTS AND TEACHING TO REALIZE THE DIFFERENCE IN SPENDING COMPARED TO THESE TWO STATES. EVEN A TRADESMAN WHO DROPPED OUT OF UNIVERSITY TWICE CAN SEE THE DRASTIC DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THESE STATES.
IT IS. IS IT BECAUSE ONE STATE PRIORITIZES NONACADEMIC AND USELESS TOPICS LIKE DEI, SEL, AND EQUITY, WHICH WASTE VALUABLE TIME IN THE CLASSROOM AND STATE FUNDING? WHILE THESE RESOURCES SHOULD BE USED ON CORE ACADEMICS LIKE MATH AND READING.
THANK YOU, PRESIDENT KATIMS FOR RESPONDING TO MY EMAIL.
YOU WROTE THAT NAEP TEST MAY NOT BE VALID IN REPRESENTING STUDENT LEARNING.
BUT ISN'T IT A GOOD, NON-BIASED WAY TO COMPARE STATES WHO MAY DO THINGS DIFFERENTLY, LIKE TESTING, AND SEE HOW WELL THE STATES THE STUDENTS ARE DOING STATE BY STATE DESPITE THE DIFFERENT FORMS OF ASSESSMENTS? AND I WOULD IF I HAD A $500 MILLION BUDGET, I WOULD HAVE ENLARGED THESE CHARTS OR PROJECTED THEM IN THE ROOM SO ALL COULD SEE.
IF YOU WANT TO SEE THE CHARTS, COME SEE ME AFTER THE MEETING.
THANK YOU. THANK YOU. AND NEXT IS TONY SHAPIRO.
GOOD EVENING. I JUST WANT TO MAKE A FEW COMMENTS REGARDING AN EXCHANGE THAT HAPPENED LAST MEETING BETWEEN THE PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD PRESIDENT JASON MOORE PERTAINING TO HE WAS READING OFF A PAPER, AND I FELT I WAS SURPRISED AT THAT PRESIDENT HAD RESPONDED IN THAT FASHION THAT WE HAVE NOT HEARD THE INTERRUPTION OF OUR LITTLE PUBLIC MEETINGS OVER THE WHAT WE'RE GOING ON OUR FOURTH YEAR SPEAKING HERE AT THIS, AT THIS BOARD. AND SO I WAS SURPRISED TO HEAR THAT.
SO I WOULD HOPE IN THE FUTURE THAT THAT HAPPENS FORTHWITH.
THANK YOU. THANK YOU. NEXT ON THE AGENDA IS OUR

[12. NEW BUSINESS- 8:00 pm]
THERE ARE EIGHT ITEMS OF NEW BUSINESS. THE FIRST IS A SINGLE READING WITH REQUEST FOR APPROVAL OF RESOLUTION 2506.DO I HEAR A MOTION IN MOTION AND A SECOND TO APPROVE RESOLUTION NUMBER 2506, WHICH IS THE ACCEPTANCE OF COMPLETED CONTRACT NUMBER Q23-07CP FOR THE INTERCOM SYSTEM REPLACEMENT AT EDMONDS-WOODWAY HIGH SCHOOL.

ALL THOSE IN FAVOR OF APPROVING RESOLUTION NUMBER 2506 ON THE ACCEPTANCE OF THE COMPLETED CONTRACT FOR THE INTERCOM SYSTEM REPLACEMENT AT EDMONDS-WOODWAY HIGH SCHOOL, PLEASE INDICATE BY SAYING AYE. AYE. AYE. AYE.

THIS FIRST AMENDMENT HAS BEEN REVIEWED BY LEGAL COUNSEL FOR BOTH PARTIES.
MOVE TO APPROVE. I'LL SECOND. I'VE HEARD A MOTION TO APPROVE.
AND A SECOND. IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION? I HAVE TO MAKE A DISCLOSURE ON THIS.
IT CAME TO MY ATTENTION A COUPLE WEEKS AGO THAT I HAVE HAD PROFESSIONAL INTERACTIONS WITH HOUSING.
HOPE I RECUSE MYSELF FROM MY WORK RESPONSIBILITIES.
I DON'T BELIEVE THIS RAISES TO THE LEVEL OF MEANING TO RECUSE MYSELF FROM THESE.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH. ANY OTHER COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS OR DISCUSSION? HEARING NONE, I'LL CALL FOR A VOTE. ALL THOSE IN FAVOR OF APPROVING THE FIRST AMENDMENT TO THE GROUND LEASE WITH HOUSING HOPE.
PLEASE INDICATE BY SAYING AYE. AYE. AYE. AYE.
ALL THOSE OPPOSED SAY NAY. AND ANY ABSTENTIONS.
OH, YOU'RE JUST RECUSING YOURSELF ENTIRELY FROM IT.
I'M SAYING THAT IT DOESN'T RISE TO THE LEVEL OF NEEDING ME TO RECUSE MYSELF. OKAY.
I JUST DISCLOSED. IF YOU COULD JUST GO ON MIC TO.
YES, BUT I WASN'T ON RECORD WITH WHAT I JUST SAID, SO I GOT IT.
OKAY. THANK YOU. SO, YEAH, I'M NOT RECUSING. I'M JUST SAYING THAT I HAD A PREVIOUS INTERACTION.
OKAY. THANK YOU FOR THAT. THE NEXT THREE ITEMS ARE FIRST READING, SO NO ACTION REQUESTED FOR ITEMS. FOUR ITEMS. THANK YOU. FIVE. YEAH. THANK YOU.
I THIS ONE I AM GOING TO SPEND JUST A MOMENT EXPLAINING BECAUSE IT DOES HAVE A LEVEL OF COMPLEXITY.
SO 12.5 IS A FIRST READING. NO ACTION REQUESTED TO RETRACT THE 2024 VERSION OF POLICY 3205 SEXUAL HARASSMENT OF STUDENTS PROHIBITED AND ADOPT THE PREVIOUS VERSION OF POLICY 3205.
AFTER. SO WE WOULD REVERT TO THE OLD ONE, WHICH IS STILL ON OUR WEBSITE, AND RESCIND THE ONE THAT YOU HAD PREVIOUSLY RETRACT RATHER THE ONE THAT YOU HAD RECENTLY PASSED. SO IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION ON THE RETRACTION OF THE 2024 VERSION OF POLICY 3205 ON SEXUAL HARASSMENT OF STUDENTS PROHIBITED IN TERMS OF ADOPTING THE PREVIOUS VERSION OF THE POLICY 3205.
I DIDN'T DO A LINE BY LINE ON THIS PREVIOUSLY, SO I MAY HAVE BEEN ABLE TO ADDRESS THIS EARLIER.
I APOLOGIZE FOR NOT DOING SO, BUT THERE IS LANGUAGE IN THE REVERTED POLICY.
LET ME BACK UP. THERE'S LANGUAGE IN THE NEW POLICY WHICH STATES THAT DISCRIMINATION BASED ON GENDER IDENTITY IS OUTLAWED UNDER WASHINGTON STATE LAW, WHICH DOES NOT EXIST IN THE POLICY WE ARE REVERTING TO.
AND SO I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THAT STAY IN THE POLICY.
I HAVE THE SAME CONCERN AS KEITH. THERE'S SOME OTHER LANGUAGE AS WELL.
IT CITES A WAC 16232040 AT THE END. IT WASN'T PREVIOUSLY CITED.
TALKS ABOUT OUR WISH TO HAVE INCLUSIVE AND WELCOMING SCHOOLS.
[00:30:03]
AND SO I WONDER IF THERE'S NOT SOME VERSION THAT WOULD BE BETTER THAN GOING BACK TO THE PREVIOUS ONE. ANOTHER ALTERNATIVE. SO THIS IS THE RECOMMENDATION BY LEGAL COUNSEL.SO AND BY THE STATE THAT WE REVERT. ANOTHER OPTION WOULD BE TO PASS A REVERTED THE REVERTED POLICY GOING BACK TO THE OLD ONE. AND THEN SEEING WHAT WE CAN DO TO MAKE AMENDMENTS TO, TO THAT ONE IN THE FUTURE.
WE DO NEED TO CLEAR THE 10824 ADOPTION OFF OF OUR BOOKS.
WE DO NEED TO RESCIND THAT. AND SO, ROB, I'LL LET YOU.
IT'S BEEN RECOMMENDED THAT WE DO THIS EXPEDIENTLY.
WE CAN EXAMINE THIS POLICY AND SEE WHAT WE CAN DO LATER.
BUT I'LL LET ROB TAKE THIS AWAY. I COMPLETELY AGREE.
SO IT'S YOUR POLICY. SO IN REVERTING BACK TO THE OLD POLICY, BEFORE WE ADOPT THAT AGAIN, WE COULD CERTAINLY GO THROUGH REVISIONS THAT ARE RECOMMENDED BY THE BOARD. I DON'T THINK THERE'S STRONG DISAGREEMENT FROM STAFF THAT THOSE RECOMMENDATIONS NEED TO BE CONSIDERED, BUT I BUT I AGREE WITH DOCTOR MINER THAT WE DO WANT TO RUN THIS BY LEGAL.
THIS IS A WE'VE BEEN FORTUNATE THAT WE HAVEN'T BEEN IN SORT OF THE CROSSHAIRS.
WITH MEDIA AND CERTAIN GROUPS WANTING TO TARGET OUR DISTRICT.
BUT WE CERTAINLY WERE MOVING IN HASTE, SO WE DIDN'T TAKE TIME TO REVISE THE POLICY.
THAT WE HAD IN PLACE BEFORE. BUT WE ACTUALLY, I DON'T KNOW IF YOU MONITORED THIS ON THE WEBSITE, THE BOARD DOCS. WE NEVER REMOVED THE FORMER POLICIES BECAUSE ANY THINGS THAT WE WERE INVESTIGATING THAT OCCURRED BEFORE AUGUST 1ST FELL UNDER THE OLD POLICY. SO IN A SENSE, NEVER BECAME INACTIVE.
BUT, YOU KNOW, THE CLEANEST WAY TO MOVE FORWARD WOULD BE TO RESCIND THE RECENTLY ADOPTED VERSION AND THEN WORK ON REVISIONS ON THE EXISTING ONE. I'M WONDERING, AS ANOTHER POSSIBLE ALTERNATIVE, IF WE RESCIND IT, GO BACK TO THE ORIGINAL ONE, BUT THEN DEVELOP A RESOLUTION FROM US THAT BASICALLY SAYS WE PROTECT THIS GROUP OF PEOPLE AS WELL AS ALL OF THEM, ALL OF OUR STUDENTS, NO MATTER WHAT, AND LIST THAT.
AND I DON'T KNOW IF IT'S CLEANEST TO HAVE THAT IN POLICY.
WE DON'T GO AND LOOK FOR RESOLUTIONS THAT HAPPENED EIGHT YEARS AGO.
IF WE'RE LOOKING ON HOW TO RULE ON SOMETHING, WE GO TO POLICY.
SO IT'S MUCH BETTER IF THAT'S MEMORIALIZED IN POLICY RATHER THAN A RESOLUTION, BECAUSE I WOULDN'T NECESSARILY SEARCH ALL OLD RESOLUTIONS TO LOOK FOR GUIDANCE. A QUESTION. YEAH. IF THERE'S AN INCIDENT THAT HAPPENED BETWEEN OCTOBER EIGHT AND WHEN WE DO THE SECOND READING OF THIS TO RESCIND IT, DOES THAT FALL UNDER THE, THIS POLICY THAT WE'RE RESCINDING, OR DOES IT JUST IS IT LIKE IT NEVER DID? WE ARE. THE GUIDANCE WE RECEIVED IS THAT WE WOULD USE THE OLD VERSION OF THE POLICY.
SO WE WOULDN'T USE THE REVISED AND THEN LATER ADOPTED.
WE WOULD REVERT BACK TO THE FORMER POLICY AND PROCEDURES.
SO. OKAY, WE NEED TO GO BACK. I'M NOT COMFORTABLE LEAVING IT IN PLACE FOR THE LONG TERM.
SO I WOULD BE FINE RESCINDING THE POLICY WITH THE UNDERSTANDING THAT WE ARE GOING TO ADOPT A MORE INCLUSIVE POLICY IN THE COMING WEEKS, MONTHS, WHATEVER THAT MAY BE. SO SOME OF THIS AND I REALLY APPRECIATE THIS DISCUSSION, PARTICULARLY SINCE, YOU KNOW, MEMBERS OF OUR COMMUNITY ARE CONCERNED, YOU KNOW, THAT THEY UNDERSTAND THAT WE STAND WITH THE POLICY THAT WE DID ADOPT.
AND, YOU KNOW, AS AS A DELIBERATIVE BODY, WE'RE REGULARLY LOOKING AT POLICIES, TRYING TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE UPDATING THEM TO THEM TO REFLECT THE THE POSITION OF THE BOARD THAT WE PROTECT ALL STUDENTS.
[00:35:05]
AND AND THIS IS AN OPEN AND WELCOMING ENVIRONMENT.AND I DO THINK THAT THIS IS TO COMPLY WITH EXISTING EXECUTIVE ORDERS IN LAW THAT I WOULD AGREE WITH RESCINDING THIS NOW AND THEN, ALSO AGREE THAT WE TAKE A LOOK AS A BOARD AND NOT ONLY THIS POLICY, BUT PAYING ATTENTION IN THIS KIND OF EVER CHANGING LANDSCAPE ON HOW WE NEED TO POSITION OURSELVES TO GIVE CONFIDENCE TO OUR COMMUNITY, THAT WE'RE PAYING ATTENTION TO THEIR CONCERNS AND THE CONCERNS OF STUDENTS, AND THAT WE'RE NOT ALONE. AND SO I'M EXPRESSING MY SUPPORT IN DOING THIS AND REALLY APPRECIATE HAVING A DISCUSSION AS A BOARD ON THIS.
WONDERING AND IT MAY BE SOMETHING THAT CAN'T BE ANSWERED.
DO WE HAVE ANY CASES THAT ARE PENDING RIGHT NOW THAT WOULD BE AFFECTED BY THIS POLICY ONE WAY OR ANOTHER? NONE THAT ARE IN FRONT OF ME RIGHT NOW. OKAY.
THANK YOU. SO I'M HEARING WE WILL BRING THIS FORWARD FOR A SECOND READING AT THE SECOND READING AND POSSIBLE, WELL, SECOND READING AND RECOMMENDATION FOR APPROVAL AT THE NEXT MEETING WITH A FUTURE REVIEW OF THIS POLICY.
THANK YOU. DOCTOR BAUMGARTNER. EXCUSE ME. THE NEXT ONE IS 12.6 FIRST READING WITH NO ACTION.
REVISED BOARD POLICY 3424, OPIOID RELATED OVERDOSE REVERSAL MOTION AND A SECOND NO FIRST READING.
NEVER MIND. SORRY. YEAH. WE'RE READY. I'M BEING A LITTLE INFORMAL TODAY.
YEAH, THAT'S ALL GOOD. IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION ON THIS PARTICULAR REVISED BOARD POLICY ON THIS FIRST READING? DIRECTOR GERRARD. ARE YOU OKAY? YES, I THINK THIS IS FINE.
OKAY. ALL RIGHT. THE NEXT ONE IS FIRST READING, NO ACTION ON REFORMS. REVISED BOARD POLICY 3414. INFECTIOUS DISEASES WAS TO REVISE ITS MODEL POLICY TO UPDATE TERMINOLOGY BASED ON THE REGULATIONS, WITH THE MOST CURRENT INFECTIOUS DISEASE CONTROL GUIDE.
ANY DISCUSSION ON THIS ONE? HEARING NONE, WE CAN GO TO THE NEXT.
THE NEXT ONE IS A FIRST READING. REVISED BOARD POLICY 3420 ANAPHYLAXIS PREVENTION AND RESPONSE.
THIS BOARD POLICY WAS REVISED OR THE RECOMMENDED POLICY WAS REVISED IN OCTOBER 2024 BASED ON HOUSE BILL 1608, WHICH EXPANDED ACCESS TO ANAPHYLAXIS MEDICATIONS IN SCHOOLS.
ANY DISCUSSION ON THIS ONE? HEARING NONE, I THINK WE CAN GO TO OUR LEGISLATIVE UPDATE.
[13. LEGISLATIVE UPDATES]
DIRECTOR CHASE. WONDERFUL, HEATING UP ON THE LEGISLATIVE SIDE.WELL, WE ARE IN WEEK FIVE OF THE LEGISLATIVE SESSION.
ALSO, ALONG WITH THE 30 PAGES OF WSSDA BILLS RELATED TO EDUCATION THAT ARE CURRENTLY IN THE WORKS.
YOU CAN GO TO THE NEXT SLIDE. AS A REMINDER, THE SCHOOL DISTRICT AND THE LEGISLATIVE.
THE LEGISLATIVE ADVOCACY IS A YEAR ROUND ENDEAVOR.
AND WE ARE NOW IN THE POINT OF ADVOCACY IN THE MIDDLE OF BILLS BEING HEARD AND COMMITTEES AND RAPIDLY CHANGING ENVIRONMENT. SO WE CAN GO TO THE NEXT ONE, PLEASE.
SO CURRENT BILLS THAT WE'RE WATCHING RIGHT NOW OF PARTICULAR SPECIAL INTEREST OF THE BIG THREE.
THOSE THREE TOPICS THAT THE COLLECTIVE SCHOOL ADVOCACY GROUPS HAVE DECIDED TO REALLY FOCUS ON ARE SPECIAL EDUCATION, MATERIAL SUPPLIES AND OPERATING COSTS, EXCUSE ME, AND TRANSPORTATION.
THAT SLASH MEANS IT'S A COMPANION BILL IN THE HOUSE BETWEEN 1310 AND 5307.
OF THESE PARTICULAR BILLS, WE BELIEVE THAT 5263 IS THE BEST ONE IN THE HOUSE.
IT'S EXCUSE ME, IN THE SENATE SB MEANS SENATE.
IT DOES THE BEST FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION FUNDING FOR AND IS A STRONGER BILL.
AND SO WE'RE SUPPORTING THAT ONE MOVING FORWARD.
IT HAD A HEARING TODAY, AND I WAS HOPING THAT I COULD GIVE YOU SOME FEEDBACK ON THE HEARING.
BUT IT WAS AT 4:00, RIGHT WHEN I WAS ON MY WAY TO OUR STUDY SESSION.
DID WE HAVE ANY OTHER INPUT ON THIS PARTICULAR BILL THAT MAYBE EITHER OF YOU WERE ABLE TO TRACK?
[00:40:07]
WELL, WE'LL JUST KEEP MOVING ON. ON IN, WE'LL HAVE BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS NOW ON THIS PRESENTATION.IT'LL BE HEARING MATERIALS PRO CON STATEMENTS YOU KNOW, THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE TESTIFYING, SIGNING IN.
YEAH, STATE SENATOR LIIAS AND STANFORD AND SOLOMON ALL ARE SPONSORING THAT BILL.
AND THE HOUSE BILL ONE THREE, THREE, EIGHT GIVES A 20% INCREASE IN MPSOC FUNDING.
AND THAT IS A PREFERRED BILL. IT IS MOVING FORWARD AND IT IS.
SPONSORS OF THIS ONE ALSO INCLUDE ONE, TWO, THREE, FOUR OF OUR HOUSE REPRESENTATIVES WITH CINDY RYU, REP RYU, REP KLOBA, REP DUERR AND DAVIS. AND SO THEY ARE VERY AWARE.
ALSO, WE'RE REALLY PROUD THAT WE'VE GOT SO MANY OF OUR LOCAL SPONSORS ON THESE BILLS.
TRANSPORTATION. SENATE BILL 5187. IT'S, YOU KNOW, FOR TRANSPORTATION FOR THE IMPACT OF THESE BILLS ON FOR US IS NOT AS IMPACTFUL AS ANYTHING WE COULD DO ON THE OTHER BILLS.
TRANSPORTATION. SENATOR SOLOMON IS A SPONSOR OF THIS AND NANCY, WOULD YOU HAVE ANY MORE INPUT ON THIS ONE, THIS PARTICULAR ONE FOR THIS PARTICULAR BILL, THE TRANSPORTATION THIS BILL WOULD NOT HAVE A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON SOME OF THE OTHER BILLS ADDRESSING OUR SPECIAL ED AND OUR COSTS.
YEAH. WHAT IT'S MINIMAL, WHAT IT WOULD DO FOR US IF ANYTHING.
ALL IT DOES. AND IT'S NOT GOING TO GOING TO HELP MOST ANY DISTRICTS IS $400 PER ANY MCKINNEY-VENTO STUDENT, WHICH IS A STUDENT EXPERIENCING HOUSING INSECURITY.
THAT IS NOTHING. AND WHAT WE'VE SAID TO OUR LEGISLATORS, AND WE TALKED TO SENATOR SOLOMON AS WELL.
AND HE UNDERSTOOD. WE SAID WE DON'T WANT THIS TO GET A LOT OF ATTENTION.
WHAT WE WOULD HATE IS FOR THE LEGISLATORS TO FUND THIS, BUT NOTHING ELSE AND SAY, LOOK, BUT WE GAVE YOU TRANSPORTATION, WHICH WOULD BE LIKE BREADCRUMBS OR WORSE, YOU KNOW AND SO WE REALLY TRIED TO HELP WHEN WE'VE TALKED TO OUR, THE LEGISLATORS, WE HAVE BEEN CLEAR THIS IS NOT SOMETHING THAT HELPS US.
PLEASE DON'T MAKE THIS A BIG DEAL. AND I DON'T THINK IT HELPS ANYBODY PARTICULARLY THAT MUCH.
THE WAY THEY'VE WRITTEN IT, THE WAY IT'S WRITTEN, THERE CAN ALWAYS BE AMENDMENTS.
AND WE'RE STILL AT WEEK FIVE. YEAH. I WOULD JUST LIKE TO GIVE A LITTLE CONTEXT TO THE ADVOCACY THAT'S BEEN HAPPENING, IF THAT'S OKAY. OH. PLEASE DO. SO AS 51, 87 PEOPLE, TRANSPORTATION DID HAVE MORE THAN 2400 PEOPLE SIGN IN AS PRO. JANUARY 22ND, 5192 THE MSOC 2500 PEOPLE, MORE THAN 2500 AND SPECIAL EDUCATION, THE 5263 2668. OH, YOU SAW THAT.
THANK YOU. THAT WAS ON THE JANUARY 20TH, THE JANUARY HEARINGS AND 5307, 1368 SIGNED IN AS PRO.
SO, THERE'S A LOT OF INTEREST IN SPECIAL, I MEAN, THOSE NUMBERS TO GIVE THOSE NUMBERS CONTEXT.
THAT'S A LOT. YEAH, IT'S A LOT. IT'S A LOT OF PEOPLE SIGNING IN ON BILLS RELATED TO EDUCATION.
OFTEN, YOU KNOW, THERE'S A HANDFUL OF PEOPLE SIGNING IN. NOW WE'RE UP IN THE THOUSANDS. ONE OTHER AREA THAT I THINK IS PARTICULARLY IMPORTANT FOR US IS THERE ARE TWO BILLS, A HOUSE BILL AND A SENATE BILL THAT WOULD INCREASE THE LEVY CAP.
[00:45:10]
FROM THE COMMUNITY THAN THE STATE HAS ALLOWED US TO TAKE, MEANING THEY WANT TO HELP MORE.AND THE STATE HAS HAD A CAP ON THAT THAT HAS KEPT OUR HANDS TIED.
BUT THERE ARE TWO BILLS RIGHT NOW. HOUSE BILL 1356, WHICH IS SPONSORED BY CINDY RYU AND LILLIAN ORTIZ-SELF, WHICH ARE TWO OF OUR HOUSE REPRESENTATIVES. IT'S NOT QUITE AS GOOD AS THE SENATE BILL, BUT IT DOES HAVE A CLAUSE IN THERE TO THERE TO HELP FUND SUBSTITUTES FOR OUR CERTIFICATED AND CLASSIFIED STAFF OVER.
WHAT WE CURRENTLY GET, WHICH WE NEED FOR JUST OPERATING EVERYDAY LIFE IN THE SCHOOLS.
SO EITHER ONE OF THEM WOULD HELP OURS. AND THE NICE PIECE ABOUT THAT, AND I REALIZE THEY PUT THOSE IN THERE BECAUSE OF MCCLEARY AND CONCERN ABOUT EQUITY ACROSS DISTRICTS, BUT IT'S A WAY FOR DISTRICTS TO GET FUNDING THAT DOESN'T HAVE THAT ISN'T COMING FROM THE STATE, IT'S COMING FROM OUR COMMUNITIES. AND SINCE THE STATE IS CLAIMING THAT THEY'RE BROKE AND THEY DON'T HAVE ENOUGH MONEY TO COVER ALL OF THE THINGS THEY WANT TO COVER, LET OUR COMMUNITIES DO WHAT THEY WANT TO DO TO SUPPORT US.
SO, AS WE SAID, IT'S A DYNAMIC PROCESS RIGHT NOW.
CAN YOU GO TO THE NEXT SLIDE? AND SO I WANT TO POINT OUT TOO, AS WE ARE FAMILIAR WITH THESE BILLS, BUT SO THAT YOU CAN ALSO BECOME FAMILIAR WHEN YOU CLICK ON THE LINKS IT WILL LOOK SOMETHING LIKE THIS.
THIS IS ONE OF THE BILLS THAT YOU'LL SEE WHERE IT IS IN THE PROCESS.
I WOULD RECOMMEND GETTING AN EMAIL NOTIFICATION SO YOU'LL KNOW THE PROCESS OF THE BILL, WHETHER IT'S BEING AMENDED, IT'S IN COMMITTEE, EXECUTIVE SESSION AND ALSO WHAT THOSE THINGS MEAN.
AND WE'LL BE TRACKING THIS ALSO. AND COULD YOU GO TO THE NEXT SLIDE PLEASE.
CAN I JUST SAY SOMETHING ABOUT THAT. SO ONE OF THE REASONS WHY GETTING EMAIL NOTIFICATIONS IS REALLY HELPFUL IS IT TELLS YOU WHEN IT'S GOING TO HEARING IN A COMMITTEE, AND THAT'S WHEN YOU CAN GO IN. AND A SIMPLE THING TO DO, LIKE DOCTOR MINER WAS TALKING ABOUT THAT ALL THOSE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE HAVE DONE IS TO STATE YOUR POSITION, PRO OR CON. THAT'S ALL YOU WOULD HAVE TO DO.
AT A MINIMUM, IF YOU WANT TO LEAVE A WRITTEN COMMENT, YOU CAN DO THAT TOO.
YOU CAN ALSO GIVE VIRTUAL TESTIMONY IN PERSON.
IF YOU HAVE A WHOLE DAY TO SIT AROUND AND WAIT FOR THEM TO GET TO YOUR BILL TO SAY A MINUTE'S WORTH.
I DID THAT LAST YEAR. I DON'T KNOW. I DON'T. I THINK IT MIGHT HAVE SLIGHTLY MORE IMPACT THAN THE WRITTEN COMMENT, BUT THIS YEAR I'M USING THE WRITTEN COMMENTS AS MY APPROACH BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE THAT MUCH TIME IN MY LIFE.
THAT BEING SAID, SIMPLE PRO YOU CAN SEE IN THE NUMBERS IF YOU GO IN THE SIMPLE NUMBERS, EXPRESSING YOUR POSITION IS A WAY TO TELL THAT COMMITTEE. AND IF IT DOESN'T GET THROUGH A COMMITTEE, IT'S DEAD.
SO FOR THE ONES WE WANT, WE WANT THEM TO MAKE IT THROUGH THE VARIOUS COMMITTEES, THE WAYS AND MEANS OR FINANCE COMMITTEE, APPROPRIATIONS, THROUGH THE EDUCATION COMMITTEES, ALL OF THE THE LEGAL ONE, WHATEVER THE FISCAL ONE, WHATEVER. THERE'S A LOT OF COMMITTEES. THERE'S A LOT OF COMMITTEES. SO IT'S REALLY EASY TO JUST SAY, YOU KNOW, SEND ME AN EMAIL AND THEN IT'LL TELL YOU.
AND THEN, YOU KNOW, OKAY, TOMORROW IS A HEARING.
IT'S MUCH MORE USER FRIENDLY THAN YOU EXPECT.
I COULDN'T HAVE SAID IT BETTER THAN MYSELF. AND SO ON THIS ONE ALSO THERE WE DO HAVE ON THE NEXT SLIDE, THE LINKS. WHAT WE WERE JUST TALKING ABOUT AND HOW TO TRACK THE UPCOMING HEARINGS IS A VERY IMPORTANT LINK.
SO WSSDA HAS DONE A LOT OF WORK TO CONDENSE IT TO, TO, YOU KNOW, DISTILL ALL THIS INFORMATION DOWN.
AND OF COURSE, THE BUDGET PRIORITIES AND THE PROPOSALS THAT WE'VE GOT SO FAR.
SO, I WANT TO BRING YOUR ATTENTION TO THOSE LINKS SO THAT WE CAN ALL BE ON THE SAME PAGE, AND WE'RE ALL GOING TO BE EXPERTS AT THIS BY THE TIME THE NEXT COUPLE OF WEEKS COME THROUGH. LET ME GO TO THE NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE.
WE ALSO REMINDER OF OUR ALIGNING A LOT OF THE POSITION.
WE ARE ALIGNING OUR POSITIONS ON THESE BILLS WITH OUR PRIORITIES.
[00:50:05]
WHICH IS THE COMPILATION OF DISTRICT BOARDS ACROSS THE STATE PRIORITIZING THOSE THINGS ARE IMPORTANT TO THEIR DISTRICT.YOU MAY NOTICE AT TIMES, IF YOU'RE TRACKING WSSDA, THEY WILL NOT BE SIGNING ON A PARTICULAR BILL.
AND WHAT WAS ON OUR NEXT SLIDE THERE. AND OF COURSE, PARTICIPATING IN THE PROCESS.
I THINK THAT WE COVERED THAT ONE. BUT, NANCY, ANYTHING ELSE YOU THINK IT'S A GREAT WAY TO DO IT, RIGHT? OH, I ENCOURAGE EVERYBODY. I ENCOURAGE EVERYONE.
WE'VE HAD SO MANY PEOPLE. I MEAN, YOU JUST FOR EVERYBODY WHO'S LISTENING, EVERYBODY WHO CARES? WE ARE WE ARE NOT IN GOOD SHAPE. IF THE STATE DOESN'T COME THROUGH AND HELPS US.
WE'RE AND WE, AS YOU RECALL FROM LAST YEAR, WE'VE CUT EVERYTHING.
AND THEN NEXT SLIDE PLEASE. AS A REMINDER HERE ARE REPRESENTATIVES.
IF YOU'RE NOT SURE WHICH DISTRICT YOU'RE IN THERE'S A LEDGE FINDER.
AND THE NEXT SLIDE PLEASE. AND IT'S RIGHT THERE.
IF YOU'RE NOT SURE WHICH DISTRICT WHICH OF THOSE THREE REPRESENT YOU.
WE MET WITH SENATOR SOLOMON, SENATOR SANFORD'S AIDES, REPRESENTATIVE KLOBA, REPRESENTATIVE RYU, REPRESENTATIVE LAUREN DAVIS AND REPRESENTATIVE ORTIZ-SELF.
AND SO WE HAD TIME. I WAS ABLE TO SIT IN WITH OUR PRESIDENT AND VICE PRESIDENT, AND WE HAD TIME WITH ALL OF THOSE FOLKS, THANKS TO AARON, WHO SCHEDULES THOSE MEETINGS.
SCHEDULING FIVE BUSY PEOPLE INTO ONE SLOT ON ANY GIVEN DAY IS DIFFICULT WORK.
BUT SHE MAKES IT WELL. SHE MAKES IT LOOK EASY.
I KNOW IT ISN'T EASY THOUGH, SO WE APPRECIATE HER EFFORTS TO GET THAT SCHEDULING DONE, BUT I'M VERY PRODUCTIVE CONVERSATIONS WITH THEM, AND WE'RE WORKING ON SCHEDULING THE LAST FEW WHO WE WEREN'T ABLE TO GET YESTERDAY.
THAT'S GREAT. ANYTHING ELSE? ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS FROM THE STUDENTS? WE ACTUALLY HAD TWO OF OUR STUDENTS JUMP IN. YEAH WE DID WELL, YEAH.
SO TATIANA JUMPED IN AND SCARLETT JUMPED IN AS WELL.
YOU WANT TO START YOUR COMMENTS, MAYBE, AND RESPOND AND TALK ABOUT THAT AS WELL.
JUST GOING TO SAY ON THAT TOPIC. YEAH, I HAD A REALLY POSITIVE EXPERIENCE GETTING TO LISTEN IN ON THAT AND KIND OF SEE HOW IT WORKS, AND THEN ALSO GET TO MAKE A COMMENT THAT WAS IMPORTANT TO ME AND THEN HEAR SCARLETT'S COMMENT THAT WAS REALLY GREAT, A GOOD EXPERIENCE, AND IT'S NICE TO LIKE AS A STUDENT, HAVE ACCESS TO SEEING HOW THINGS DO HAPPEN AND HOW THINGS DO WORK.
AND I THINK THAT THESE MEETINGS AS WELL, FOR THE STUDENTS THAT DO WATCH THESE, I DON'T KNOW IF THERE ARE, BUT FOR THE STUDENTS THAT DO IT'S COOL TO KNOW ABOUT, LIKE, THE LEGISLATION AND STUFF.
IT'S INFORMATIVE AND IT'S NICE TO, TO FEEL LIKE AT LEAST WE HAVE SOME KIND OF SAY AND IMPACT, LIKE EVEN KNOWING ABOUT IT IS REALLY NICE. AND I'M GRATEFUL TO BE ABLE TO REPRESENT THE STUDENTS IN THE DISTRICT.
WE REALLY APPRECIATED YOUR TAKING THE TIME AND TALKING ABOUT THE IMPACT TO YOU.
AND SINCE YOU'RE RIGHT THERE, YOU WANT TO GO AHEAD.
[14. BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS]
WE'LL START WITH BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS. YOU CAN GO FIRST. SURE.AND THAT'S FRIDAY, WHICH IS REALLY EXCITING, AND I'M SURE IT WILL GO WELL.
I'LL BE IN ATTENDANCE. ADDITIONALLY IN THE PAST TWO WEEKS SINCE I'VE LAST BEEN HERE MY TEAM COMPETED AT STATE FOR ROBOTICS AND PLACED IN 11TH, WHICH IS ACTUALLY NOT BAD. IT'S VERY EXCITING.
AND THROUGH LIKE QUALIFICATION MATCHES, WHICH IS HOW WE PLAYED, THERE WERE ABOUT 30 TEAMS THERE. SO YEAH, WE'RE ABOUT HALFWAY. AND IT'S GREAT TO GET TO WORK WITH OTHER TEAMS AND ALSO GET TO BE IN JUST LIKE A NICE FANCY BUILDING.
I THOUGHT IT WAS LIKE, WOW. IT MADE US FEEL LIKE SO IMPORTANT.
WE ALSO HAD ADDITIONALLY WITH FIRST IN ROBOTICS FOUR MEMBERS FROM MY SCHOOL WERE SEMIFINALISTS FOR AN AWARD CALLED THE DEAN'S LIST AWARD, WHICH IS FOR IS FOR ROBOTICS. AND IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT THAT IS THAT BASICALLY LIKE AWARDS LEADERS.
AND SO YEAH, FOUR OF US WERE SEMIFINALISTS, WHICH IS REALLY EXCITING.
AND YEAH, I'M GLAD TO BE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN FIRST.
ADDITIONALLY, WE HAVE CALLBACKS FOR ADVANCED MUSICAL THEATER AT MY SCHOOL, WHICH IS VERY EXCITING.
AND I ALSO HAD A MEETING TODAY WITH A COMMITTEE THAT'S STILL IN DEVELOPMENT A LITTLE BIT AT MY SCHOOL, WHICH IS THE STUDENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE OF MY SCHOOL, WHICH IS REALLY NICE.
[00:55:09]
ABOUT STUDENT ADVOCACY AND ALSO MAKING THE OTHER STUDENTS FEEL HEARD AND SAFE AT SCHOOL.THERE'S EIGHT STUDENTS THAT WERE THERE TODAY AT THAT MEETING.
AND IT WAS NICE TO HEAR THE OTHER STUDENTS SHARING THE SAME VALUES THAT I HAVE.
AND YEAH, THAT'S ALL. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK YOU TATIANA.
APPRECIATE IT. SANTIAGO, YOU WANT TO GO NEXT? YEAH. HI, I'M SANTIAGO, I'M FROM LYNNWOOD. BEFORE I DIVE INTO SCHOOL UPDATES AND PERSONAL LEGISLATIVE UPDATES, I WANTED TO TALK ABOUT ONE OF THE PUBLIC COMMENTS THAT WAS MADE ABOUT DEI AND THE FUNDING BEHIND DEI, AND HOW IN WASHINGTON STATE, THE CLAIM WAS MADE THAT IT IS USELESS.
AND I WANT TO TALK ABOUT, YOU KNOW, IS DEI ACTUALLY USELESS? HOW ARE STUDENTS SUPPOSED TO PERFORM WELL IN A PLACE WHERE THEY DON'T FEEL PROPERLY INCLUDED AND WELCOMED WITHIN OUR SCHOOLS? I PERSONALLY, AT LYNNWOOD, WE HAVE A VERY STRONG DEI PRESENCE.
AND SINCE I'VE BEEN IN THE DISTRICT SINCE I WAS A KINDERGARTNER, SO SEEING THAT, I'VE ALWAYS FELT VERY, VERY WELCOMED AND INCLUDED AND JUST FELT LIKE I'VE HAD A SAFE SPACE IN OUR SCHOOLS, I THINK THAT'S SOMETHING THAT WE SHOULD CONTINUE TO FUND AND CONTINUE TO CONTINUE TO SUPPORT NOT ONLY AS A DISTRICT BUT AS A STATE.
SO YEAH, I JUST WANTED TO SAY THAT AND ABOUT THAT CLAIM AND HOW THE CLAIM THAT IT MIGHT BE USELESS, THAT I DON'T EXACTLY AGREE WITH THAT. NOW MOVING ON TO SCHOOL UPDATES.
ESPECIALLY BECAUSE IT'S, YOU KNOW, VERY COLD WINTER MONTHS. SO STUDENTS CAN HAVE FUN DRESS UP, I BELIEVE TODAY WAS DRESSED AS A TEACHER DAY YESTERDAY WAS DRESSED AS, LIKE, YOUR FUTURE PROFESSION AND THINGS LIKE THAT.
AND INCLUDING A PART OF CARE WEEK, WE HAVE OUR BLACK STUDENT UNION ASSEMBLY TOMORROW, WHICH I'M REALLY EXCITED FOR AND LOOKING FORWARD TO SENIOR SUPERLATIVES, THOSE THAT JUST HAPPENED AT OUR SCHOOL. AND I GOT NOMINATED FOR A WORST CASE OF SENIORITIS, WHICH IS INTERESTING. NOW FOR SOME PERSONAL LEGISLATIVE UPDATES.
SO I AM A PART OF AGAIN, I TALK ABOUT IT A LOT, WASHINGTON CTSOS AND CTE AND A BIG THING THAT WE JUST DID WAS ADVOCACY DAY FOR CTSOS AND CTE, ALONG WITH FOUR OTHER STUDENTS FROM THE EDMOND SCHOOL DISTRICT.
SO LEONA GIRMAY FROM EDMONDS-WOODWAY, JAKE FITHIAN FROM LYNWOOD AND TAYLOR JOHNSON FROM LINWOOD.
WE WERE ALL THERE IN JANUARY, I BELIEVE, THE 29TH, TALKING TO LEGISLATORS, YOU KNOW, TALKING ABOUT CTE AND CTSOS ARE IMPORTANT AND ADVOCATING FOR CERTAIN BILLS. THE ONE LEGISLATOR I DID GET TO MEET WITH WAS REPRESENTATIVE LAUREN DAVIS, AND TALKING TO HER WAS VERY, VERY NICE ABOUT HOW, YOU KNOW, CTE AND CTSOS REALLY IMPACT ME AND MY COMMUNITY.
AND OVERALL, YOU KNOW, THE IMPORTANCE OF WHY WE NEED TO KEEP FUNDING THESE PROGRAMS. AND I ALSO WANTED TO TALK ABOUT A CERTAIN BILLS THAT WE WENT OVER, BECAUSE THE BIG THING IS TALKING ABOUT THESE BILLS AND WHAT IS REALLY IMPORTANT FOR US.
AND THE BIGGEST THING FOR US IS A LOT OF OUR PROGRAMS AND CTE AND CAREER AND TECHNICAL STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS DO HAVE THE SIXTH GRADE LEVEL FOR THESE PROGRAMS, AND YET WE'RE NOT ABLE TO FUND THESE SIXTH GRADE STUDENTS TO ATTEND FALL CONFERENCES, ATTEND STATE CONFERENCES, AND JUST FUND THEIR LEARNING WITHIN THESE PROGRAMS. SO THAT'S A BIG THING THAT WE TALKED ABOUT WITH LEGISLATORS IS GETTING THAT FUNDING FOR THOSE PROGRAMS SPECIFICALLY. WE TALKED ABOUT HOUSE BILL 1121 IS ABOUT WORK RESTRICTIONS FOR 16 AND 17 YEAR OLDS AND INCREASING THE ALLOWABLE WORK HOURS FOR MINORS WORKING IN CTE PATHWAY RELATED FIELDS.
YOU KNOW, AGAIN, I REPRESENT STEM, BUT THERE'S MULTIPLE THERE'S BUSINESS, THERE'S HEALTHCARE APPLICATIONS, THERE'S FAMILY, CONSUMER SCIENCES. ALL OF US WORK TOGETHER TO TALK WITH THE CTE OSPI DEPARTMENT CONTACTS, ESPECIALLY DOCTOR CHRISTA FOX, THE DIRECTOR FOR CTE WITHIN OSP AND JUST GETTING THE SUPPORT TALKING TO LEGISLATORS. AND YEAH, I JUST WANTED TO TALK ABOUT HOW THAT WE DID THAT IN JANUARY.
THAT'S WHY I WASN'T AT THE LAST MEETING. YEAH, THAT WAS A LOT OF FUN.
SO YEAH. SANTIAGO THAT'S GREAT. THANK YOU FOR SHARING THAT.
THE LEGISLATORS. I JUST THINK THAT'S SUPER. SO I'M SO GLAD YOU WERE ABLE TO DO THAT.
I WANT TO MENTION, TOO, I THINK IT LOOKS LIKE THAT THE 5358 IS SCHEDULED FOR EXECUTIVE SESSION TOMORROW, SO GOOD JOB ADVOCATING. CONGRATULATIONS. MOVING ON.
VIVIAN. SO FIRST OFF, I WANT TO GIVE A SHOUT OUT TO EVAN KARANI, WHO'S HERE TODAY.
[01:00:02]
HE'S PART OF MOLLY TERRACE HIGH SCHOOL JOURNALISM AND PART OF THE GROUP THAT WENT TO NATIONALS AND WAS GOING TO BE HONORED TONIGHT.AND THEN THE OTHER THING THAT I WANTED TO TALK ABOUT WAS THE REVISED BOARD POLICY 2190, ABOUT HIGHLY CAPABLE PROGRAMS. SO I MYSELF WAS PART OF HIGHLY CAPABLE AND I STARTED IN FOURTH GRADE.
AND I THINK THAT PART OF THIS THAT'S REALLY IMPORTANT IS MAKING SURE WE HAVE A MORE EQUITABLE WAY TO FIND STUDENTS THAT ARE PART OF IT. PART OF THAT WAS THE UNIVERSAL SCREENING HAPPENING IN SECOND GRADE? I THINK THAT'S GREAT. I WONDER IF THEY I DON'T KNOW IF THERE'S A WAY TO SEE HAS THAT INCREASED THE AMOUNT OF KIDS GOING INTO THE PROGRAM? AND THEN ALSO SPECIFICALLY IN THE POLICY OF HAVING A FOCUS ON LOW INCOME STUDENTS, BECAUSE I THINK RIGHT NOW THERE IS A VERY BIG BARRIER FOR THOSE STUDENTS TO GET INTO THE PROGRAM WHILE THERE IS BUSING AND OTHER THINGS, THERE ARE JUST A LOT OF OTHER STRUGGLES THAT A FAMILY THAT IS LOW INCOME MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO OVERCOME. I KNOW FROM MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WHILE I WAS THERE, ALMOST EVERY SINGLE STUDENT HAD AT LEAST ONE STAY AT HOME PARENT. SO THEY HAD TRANSPORTATION.
AND A LOT OF HELP IN OTHER WAYS. SO I THINK THAT HIGHLY CAPABLE IS SO IMPORTANT FOR THIS GROUP OF STUDENTS TO MAKE SURE THEY REALLY DO HAVE A GOOD SCHOOL EXPERIENCE. AND I THINK IT'S GREAT THAT WE'RE TRYING TO EXTEND THAT TO REACH A LARGER AUDIENCE.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING THAT. EXCELLENT.
DIRECTOR GERRARD. YES. I JUST WANT TO AGAIN, THANK THE STUDENTS FOR THEIR INPUT AND THEIR COMMENTS.
IT'S IT'S ALWAYS EXCELLENT TO HAVE THE PERSPECTIVES THAT YOU BRING TO US IN OUR I WANTED TO SAY I'M ACTUALLY GLAD THAT MOUNTLAKE TERRACE JOURNALISM GOT POSTPONED BECAUSE I HAVE A FORMER STUDENT IN THAT GROUP, SO I HOPE TO SEE THEM WHEN WE RESCHEDULE. AND I'LL LOOK FORWARD TO BEING BACK WITH YOU ALL NEXT TIME.
I THINK I'VE BECOME A PRO AT IT. BE HAPPY TO HELP ANY WALK ANYBODY THROUGH IT THAT NEEDED HELP.
SO THAT'S ALL I'VE GOT TONIGHT. THANKS. EXCELLENT.
THANK YOU SO MUCH. DIRECTOR CRAMER. SO I WANT TO FIRST THANK OUR STUDENT REPRESENTATIVES.
EVERY TIME YOU GUYS OPEN YOUR MOUTHS, I'M JUST TOTALLY IMPRESSED AND SO PROUD.
AND I'M ALSO THINKING ABOUT THE TEACHERS THAT HAVE TOUCHED YOUR LIVES THROUGHOUT YOUR CAREER, AND I CAN'T HELP BUT BE PROUD OF THOSE TEACHERS AS WELL.
NOT GOING TO LIE, TODAY WAS A ROUGH DAY FOR ME.
WE DON'T KNOW WHEN OR IF THE STUDENT WILL MAKE IT OUT.
SO THERE WAS AN EMPTY CHAIR IN MY CLASSROOM TODAY.
I WANT TO. THERE'S A LOT OF HOPE BEHIND THAT, BECAUSE WE REALLY DO HOPE HE'S COMING BACK.
MY HEART GOES OUT TO THE MEADOWDALE COMMUNITY WHO LOST ONE OF THEIR MEMBERS RECENTLY.
AND TO THE LOPEZ FAMILY. WHEN YOU'RE TEACHING AND YOU LOVE YOUR KIDS.
AND SOMETHING BAD HAPPENS IN YOUR CLASS, TO ONE OF THE KIDS.
IT IMPACTS THE COMMUNITY. AND IT'S YOU KIND OF THROW OUT THE LESSON PLAN FOR THE DAY SOMETIMES IN ORDER TO ADDRESS THE NEEDS OF THE KIDS THAT ARE THERE IN FRONT OF YOU.
A LOT OF THE THINGS THAT WE WORK WITH UP HERE AT THIS LEVEL AT THE 10,000 FOOT LEVEL.
AND A LOT OF TIMES THAT'S LOST ON YOU KNOW, PEOPLE THAT ARE NOT IN THE CLASSROOM.
[01:05:07]
BASIS. AND, AND HOW YOU SUPPORT YOUR KIDS THROUGH IT ALL.AND SOMETIMES WE DO HAVE THAT. MANY OF US HAVE IT.
BUT I WANT TO KNOW YOU HAVE THE SUPPORT FROM THIS BOARD MEMBER AS A COLLEAGUE AND SOMEONE THAT CARES DEEPLY ABOUT OUR PROFESSION. SO I WANT TO END WITH THAT.
OH, ACTUALLY, NO, I WANT TO END ON A POSITIVE NOTE.
THERE IS ONE OF OUR STUDENT SCHOOL BOARD DIRECTORS I WAS TALKING TO BEFORE SCHOOL.
AND I THINK IT'S WORTH CELEBRATING THAT NOT ONLY DOES SHE DO LOTS OF COMPETITIONS WITH ROBOTICS, BUT TATIANA ALSO TOOK FIRST PLACE IN FOUR DIFFERENT CATEGORIES FOR COMPETITIVE BALLROOM DANCING, JUST OVER THIS LAST WEEKEND. SO I MEAN, THAT'S PRETTY COOL. SO ANYWAY, THANK YOU SO MUCH.
THANK YOU, DIRECTOR CRAMER. AND THAT WAS A POWERFUL STATEMENT.
APPRECIATED. DIRECTOR SMITH. SO MY COMMENT ACTUALLY GOES DIRECTLY TO MR. MOORE'S COMMENT. I HAD COME ACROSS THAT SAME DATA THAT YOU HAD LOOKED AT A FEW WEEKS AGO.
THE SEATTLE TIMES RAN AN ARTICLE ABOUT IT, AND THAT'S HOW I CAME ACROSS IT.
AND I DID A DEEP DIVE INTO THE GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY.
IT WAS THE PEOPLE WHO PUT IT ON EVERYTHING. SO IT LOOKS LIKE THEY'RE A LEGITIMATE SOURCE.
SO I HAVE ALSO LOOKED AT IT AND SHARE SOME OF THE CONCERNS.
AND ONE OF THEM IS THAT FOR WHATEVER REASON, THEY HAVE DECIDED THE BASELINE IS 2013.
SO WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE DATA THERE, EVERYTHING IS IN A PERCENTAGE FORM.
IT'S NOT NOTHING IS JUST PURE STUFF. SO THEY TREATED 2013 AS ZERO.
AND SO THINGS LIKE SPENDING FOR THE STATE OF WASHINGTON.
WELL, 2018 WAS WHEN WE FUNDED EDUCATION THROUGH MCCLEARY.
SO THERE'S OF COURSE GOING TO BE A HUGE INFLUX OF MONEY INTO THE SCHOOLS THERE.
SO TO SAY THAT WE'RE OUTPACING INFLATION, WELL, WE HAD TO.
THAT'S WHAT THE COURT SAID WE HAD TO DO. TO SAY THAT OUR TEST SCORES ARE DOWN.
YOU KNOW, IN THE STATE THAT IS A BIG CONCERN, BUT I DON'T THINK YOU CAN REALLY DO A STATE TO STATE COMPARISON, A 5% DECREASE IN WASHINGTON VERSUS A 5% DECREASE IN MASSACHUSETTS, FOR INSTANCE.
THAT DOESN'T REALLY TELL ME MUCH. THEY'RE BOTH DOWN 5%.
HOW DOES IT PERTAIN TO THE EDMONDS SCHOOL DISTRICT? ARE WE DOING BETTER THAN THAT? WORSE THAN THAT? I DON'T KNOW, BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE THAT DATA IN FRONT OF ME. BUT I THINK ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS IS FOR US AS A BOARD, WHEN WE LOOK AT THAT, IS WE DO HAVE TO CONTROL WHAT WE CAN CONTROL, AND WE CAN'T CONTROL WHAT THE STATE'S GOING TO DO. WE CAN PUSH THEM, WE CAN TRY TO GET WHAT WE NEED, BUT WE DO. AND I THINK WE ARE TAKING SERIOUSLY THE IMPORTANCE OF RAISING OUR TEST SCORES, BECAUSE WHAT YOU SHOWED, EVEN WITH THE CAVEATS, THAT IS GOING TO BE WHAT THE PUBLIC SEES.
AND IT'S IMPORTANT THAT WE DO PUT OUR BEST FOOT FORWARD SO WE CAN SHOW THE COMMUNITY THAT WE ARE FIGHTING TO GET OUR STUDENTS READY FOR THE NEXT LEVEL SO THAT THEY WANT TO INVEST IN US. SO I WANTED TO ADDRESS THAT DIRECTLY, TO LET THE COMMUNITY KNOW.
I KNOW I'VE SEEN IT. I MADE MENTION OF IT TO SOME OTHER PEOPLE, SO I KNOW THAT SOME OTHER PEOPLE HAVE SEEN IT. I DON'T KNOW WHAT EXTENT THEY'VE GONE THROUGH IT. AND IT IS A CONCERN THAT WE LOOK AT.
AND PART OF THAT IS OUR GRADING PRACTICE THAT WE'RE LOOKING AT AND A FEW OTHER THINGS THAT WE'RE LOOKING AT. BUT WE DEFINITELY SHARE THAT CONCERN THAT I'M SURE THE COMMUNITY HAS, WHICH IS, IS THE DISTRICT SPENDING YOUR MONEY IN A WAY THAT IS MAKING POSITIVE OUTCOMES FOR YOUR CHILDREN? AND I LIKE TO THINK THAT WE ARE, AND WE ARE DEFINITELY KEEPING AN EYE ON THAT STUFF AS WE GO THROUGH. SO THANK YOU FOR BRINGING THAT TO OUR ATTENTION, BECAUSE I DO BELIEVE THAT IS A GOOD SOURCE OF INFORMATION. AND WE WILL CONTINUE TO WORK ON THE THINGS TO THE BEST OF OUR ABILITY FROM THIS LEVEL.
THANK YOU, DIRECTOR SMITH. AND THANK YOU FOR THAT ANALYSIS. WELL DONE.
DIRECTOR CHASE. THANK YOU, DIRECTOR KATIMS. AND DIRECTOR CRAMER, I WANT TO APPRECIATE YOUR STATEMENT AND POWERFUL STATEMENT BECAUSE IT REALLY REINFORCES FOR ME NOT ONLY THAT THIS IS A CARING SCHOOL DISTRICT AND A SAFE SPACE FOR OUR STUDENTS, BUT ALSO FOR STAFF AND ON EVERY LEVEL. AND THESE THEN THOSE THINGS THAT THAT IMPACT OUR CLASSROOMS, IMPACT US. AND AS YOU MENTIONED AT THE WE ARE AT THE 10,000 FOOT LEVEL.
[01:10:04]
ARE A CARING DISTRICT, WE ARE FISCALLY RESPONSIBLE.WE ARE MAKING SURE THAT EVERY STUDENT UNDERSTANDS THAT THIS IS A SAFE PLACE, YOU KNOW, AND WE CELEBRATE THE DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION THAT IS IN OUR DISTRICT, WHETHER IT'S WRITTEN DOWN ON A PIECE OF PAPER OR NOT, THAT'S WHAT WE DO AND THAT'S WHAT WE LIVE AND THAT'S WHAT WE MODEL.
AND I REALLY APPRECIATE ALL THE COMMENTS AND ALL THE SUPPORT AND AND PARTICULARLY ALSO FROM OUR STUDENTS AND THE THE STUDENTS ALWAYS GIVE US GREAT INPUT BECAUSE WE NEED TO KNOW AT THIS LEVEL WHAT IS WHAT, WHAT IS HAPPENING IN THE CLASSROOMS, THE DECISIONS THAT WE'RE MAKING, BECAUSE IT IS IT IS IMPACTFUL AND WE NEED TO MODEL WHAT WE'D LIKE TO SEE IN THE WORLD.
AND WE'RE ONLY AT WEEK FIVE, SO WE'LL JUST KEEP GOING. THANK YOU.
AND I THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU'RE DOING FOR THE LEGISLATIVE ADVOCACY AND SUPPORT.
I DON'T HAVE MUCH TO SAY. THE LAST TWO WEEKS I'VE MOSTLY SPENT ON LEARNING ABOUT THE BILLS.
THE MEETINGS WITH THE LEGISLATORS WERE BOTH POSITIVE AND IN SOME CASES DISAPPOINTING.
THEY WERE POSITIVE IN THAT THEY REALLY APPRECIATED OUR ANALYSIS OF THE BILLS BECAUSE THEY HAVE THIS HUGE NUMBER OF BILLS AND THEY WANT TO KNOW WHAT MATTERS TO US MOST. AND WE WERE VERY FOCUSED AND VERY AND SAID, THIS MATTERS, THIS DOESN'T MATTER.
AND THEY REALLY APPRECIATED THAT. THAT WAS THE POSITIVE PART.
AND I KNOW THEY TOOK NOTE. THE DISAPPOINTING PART WAS THE THERE'S A LOT OF COMPETING PRIORITIES.
AND WE CAN THINK ABOUT HOW WE WANT TO THINK ABOUT THE COMPETING PRIORITIES.
MY BELIEF IS THAT THE BETTER WE'RE ABLE TO EDUCATE OUR GENERATION OF KIDS AND THE FUTURE GENERATIONS OF KIDS, THE MORE PEOPLE WILL BE ABLE TO SUPPORT THEMSELVES, NOT BE ON DRUGS, BE ABLE TO HAVE HOMES, BE ABLE TO TAKE CARE OF THEMSELVES, AND TO PUT THE MONEY UP FRONT MATTERS.
THE QUESTION IS, WHAT DO WE DO FOR THE PEOPLE WHO ARE OUT ON THE STREETS NOW OR DESPERATE? I UNDERSTAND THOSE COMPETITIONS. AND THERE WAS SO THERE WAS A DEFINITE FEELING OF, YEAH, WE LOVE YOU.
WE KNOW WE NEED TO SUPPORT YOU. WE KNOW EDUCATION IS IMPORTANT, BUT DOT, DOT, DOT.
SO THE MORE WE CAN CONTINUE TO ADVOCATE, MAKE CLEAR WHAT THE NEEDS ARE FROM WHATEVER PERSPECTIVE WE COME FROM AS A STUDENT, AS A PARENT, AS A TEACHER, AS A GRANDPARENT, AS A COMMUNITY MEMBER, BECAUSE IT MAKES OUR COMMUNITY STRONG TO HAVE STRONG SCHOOLS.
BUT WE REALLY NEED TO MAKE SURE WE MAKE OUR VOICES HEARD.
THANK YOU. I'M GOING TO END ON HOPEFULLY A LITTLE BIT OF A COMIC, BUT ALSO A SERIOUS NOTE.
NOT GOING TO LIE. ANALYSIS SHOWS TEAM NO SNOW HAD A ROUGH WEEK LAST WEEK.
WE LOST SOME BIG GAMES. SOME THAT WE THOUGHT WE MIGHT WIN.
AND I WANT TO GIVE A SHOUT OUT TO EVERYBODY IN OUR SYSTEM.
HONESTLY, SNOW IS THE ONE THING. EVERYBODY IS SO FLEXIBLE.
OUR TEACHERS REVAMP LESSON PLANS. OUR DRIVERS ARE DRIVING.
WE HAVE PEOPLE OUT ON THE ROADS BY ABOUT 3:30 IN THE MORNING STARTING.
GREG CALLS ME BY ABOUT 4:10. YOU KNOW, CURTIS GETS THE MESSAGING OUT.
WE TRY TO KEEP OUR FAMILIES AND OUR STAFF MEMBERS INFORMED, BUT IT'S HARD.
[01:15:01]
WE'RE PLANNING TO COME BACK STRONG THIS WEEK, FRIDAY. YOU KNOW, WE'RE GOING TO MIGHT BE A LITTLE DICEY, BUT WE ARE ALL I ALSO KNOW THAT, YOU KNOW, WE'VE GOT ABOUT 20,000 STUDENTS WHO ARE ON TEAM SNOW.SO WE HAVE TO PLAY REALLY, REALLY HARD. LIKE WE GOT TO PUT OUR ALL INTO IT TO HAVE A NO SNOW DAY.
BUT WE'RE I APPRECIATE EVERYONE IN OUR SYSTEM ON THOSE DAYS.
THEY'RE VERY CHALLENGING. I WON'T DISMISS THE CHALLENGE OF THAT.
WE'RE ROOTING FOR YOU AND YOUR TEAM. THIS REGULAR BUSINESS MEETING OF THE EDMONDS SCHOOL
DISTRICT BOARD OF DIRECTORS IS ADJOURNED.
