SO WELCOME, TAM. YES. GO AHEAD. THANK YOU.

THANK YOU. SUPERINTENDENT MINER . PRESIDENT KATIMS MEMBERS OF THE BOARD SUPERINTENDENT MINER , PRESIDENT KATIMS MEMBERS OF THE BOARD .

I'M VERY PLEASED TO BE HERE THIS EVENING TO TAKE AN OPPORTUNITY TO INTRODUCE TO YOU SOME OF THE LEADING MUSICIANS IN OUR DISTRICT.

THESE ARE THE STUDENTS WHO DECIDED TO TAKE ON AN EXTRA EFFORT.

A LEADERSHIP EFFORT IS THE WAY THAT I LOOK AT IT BY PREPARING THEIR ALL STATE MATERIALS AND SUBMITTING THEM FOR ADJUDICATION, IN THE HOPES THAT THEY WOULD BE SELECTED TO AN ALL STATE GROUP.

IF YOU'RE NOT FAMILIAR WITH THE STATE ORGANIZATION, WASHINGTON MUSIC EDUCATORS ASSOCIATION, WMEA. I'LL TAKE A MOMENT TO JUST EXPLAIN IT, BECAUSE IT'S IMPORTANT TO WHAT WE'RE CELEBRATING TONIGHT.

WASHINGTON MUSIC EDUCATORS ASSOCIATION IS THE STATE ASSOCIATION REPRESENTING MUSIC TEACHERS ACROSS WASHINGTON STATE.

AND ANNUALLY THEY HAVE THEIR CONFERENCE, SOMETIMES IN SEATTLE, SOMETIMES IN SPOKANE, AS IS THE CASE THIS YEAR.

AND IN CELEBRATION OF THAT COMING TOGETHER OF MUSIC EDUCATORS, THEY HOST A SERIES OF PERFORMANCE GROUPS.

STUDENTS NEED TO AUDITION IN ORDER TO BE SELECTED TO THOSE GROUPS.

IT IS IN A VERY REAL SENSE, A COMPETITION. AND FOR WMEA ALL STATE GROUPS THEY ARE ESSENTIALLY COMPETING FOR A PLACE IN THOSE GROUPS AGAINST EVERY OTHER STUDENT IN THEIR GRADE AGE BRACKET ACROSS WASHINGTON STATE.

[00:05:05]

EVERY OTHER YEAR WMEA HOLDS THEIR CONFERENCE IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR MUSIC EDUCATORS, NAFME, AND WHEN THEY DO THAT, THEY ALSO ADD IN REPRESENTATIVE STUDENTS WHO HAVE SUBMITTED TO BE IN GROUPS FOR ALL NORTHWEST AND ALL NORTHWEST EXTENDS THE COMPETITION IN TERMS OF INVOLVING ALASKA, WASHINGTON, OREGON, MONTANA, IDAHO, AND WYOMING.

SO IT IS TRULY AN ALL NORTHWEST COMPETITION IN ORDER TO BE SELECTED TO THOSE GROUPS.

AND I AM VERY, VERY PLEASED TO TELL YOU WE HAVE 13 MUSICIANS FROM OUR DISTRICT WHO HAVE BEEN SELECTED TO ALL STATE AND ALL NORTHWEST GROUPS.

AND I'M HERE TO INTRODUCE THEM TO YOU. SO I'M GOING TO TAKE A MOMENT.

THERE ARE SOME OF THEM WHO COULDN'T MAKE IT THIS EVENING.

I'LL STILL READ THEIR NAME AND INTRODUCE THEM.

THE OTHERS WHEN I READ YOUR NAME PLEASE COME UP FOR A MOMENT.

I HAVE A CERTIFICATE THAT I WANT TO GIVE TO YOU.

AND WHEN I GET DONE READING EVERYBODY'S NAMES, WE'LL GO AHEAD AND HAVE A ROUND OF APPLAUSE FOR THEM.

ALL THESE STUDENTS WILL BE PARTICIPATING IN THEIR ALL STATE AND ALL NORTHWEST GROUPS TOWARD THE END OF FEBRUARY, AND YOU'LL PROBABLY SEE SOMETHING ABOUT IT IN THE NEWSPAPER.

I KNOW THAT I'LL ADD SOME THINGS TO OUR INFORMATION THAT WE PUBLISH HERE WITHIN THE DISTRICT, SO THAT YOU'LL KNOW WHAT'S HAPPENING WITH THEM.

GREAT. IF THEY DON'T COME UP, IT'S BECAUSE THEY'RE NOT HERE. ANGELA ADAMS IS A STUDENT WHO HAS BEEN SELECTED TO THE ALL NORTHWEST MIXED CHOIR. DAVID THOMAS IS ONE OF OUR STUDENTS WHO HAS BEEN SELECTED TO THE ALL STATE SYMPHONIC CHOIR. I BELIEVE THEY'RE BOTH FROM EDMONDS-WOODWAY HIGH SCHOOL.

WOODS JAROL IS A STUDENT WHO'S BEEN SELECTED TO THE ALL NORTHWEST JAZZ CHOIR.

JOY YOO IS ONE OF OUR STUDENTS WHO HAS BEEN SELECTED TO THE ALL STATE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA ON VIOLIN. OH, OKAY.

MATHILDA HUMMEL IS ONE OF OUR STUDENTS WHO'S BEEN SELECTED TO THE ALL NORTHWEST BAND ON TRUMPET.

SONITA CHEN. SUNITA HAS BEEN SELECTED TO THE ALL STATE SYMPHONIC ORCHESTRA ON VIOLIN. CONGRATULATIONS. THANK.

HE'S BEEN SELECTED TO THE ALL NORTHWEST JAZZ BAND AS A PERCUSSIONIST.

CONGRATULATIONS. AND AS A SIDE NOTE, LUCA WILL BE GOING WITH THE JAZZ ONE BAND FROM MOUNTLAKE TERRACE HIGH SCHOOL TO THE ELLINGTON FESTIVAL LATER THIS YEAR.

IT'S A LONG WALK. YOU BETTER GET GOING. [LAUGHTER] JUNWOO LEE.

JUN WOO LEE HAS BEEN SELECTED TO THE ALL STATE CONCERT BAND ON BASS CLARINET.

CONGRATULATIONS. [APPLAUSE]. SUNYONG PARK .

SUNYONG PARK HAS BEEN SELECTED TO THE JUNIOR ALL STATE ORCHESTRA ON CELLO.

[APPLAUSE] YSA SORIANO . YSA HAS BEEN SELECTED TO THE JUNIOR ALL STATE ORCHESTRA ON VIOLIN.

[APPLAUSE] KARIS WOO. KARIS HAS BEEN SELECTED TO THE JUNIOR ALL STATE ORCHESTRA , ALSO ON VIOLIN.

[APPLAUSE] MICAH DOWNEY. MICAH HAS BEEN SELECTED TO THE JUNIOR ALL

[00:10:07]

STATE ORCHESTRA ON VIOLA. [APPLAUSE] . ELLIE CHUNG. ELLIE HAS BEEN SELECTED TO THE JUNIOR ALL STATE ORCHESTRA ON VIOLIN.

WELL, AS I SAID, IT IS A REAL CHALLENGE FOR THESE STUDENTS TO HAVE PREPARED THOSE MATERIALS, TO HAVE SUBMITTED THEM, AND TO HAVE BEEN SELECTED TO THESE PRESTIGIOUS GROUPS.

THEY REALLY DO REPRESENT THE LEADERSHIP IN MUSIC AND IN PERFORMANCE IN OUR DISTRICT.

THANK YOU ALL. THANK YOU ALL.

[APPLAUSE] AND WE'LL GO AHEAD AND GET THE BOARD MEMBERS TO KIND OF SQUISH IN HERE A LITTLE BIT, AND THEN WE'LL GET SOME PHOTOS WITH ALL OF OUR CELEBRATED MUSICIANS THIS EVENING.

MIC] THANK YOU ALL. LET'S HAVE ONE MORE BIG ROUND OF APPLAUSE. [APPLAUSE] THANK YOU SO MUCH TO OUR MUSICIANS AND FAMILIES.

OF COURSE, YOU ARE MORE THAN WELCOME TO STAY FOR OUR ENTIRE MEETING, BUT WE DO RECOGNIZE IT'S A SCHOOL NIGHT.

I'LL BET YOU PUT IN A LOT OF HOURS OF PRACTICE ON THOSE INSTRUMENTS.

SO IF YOU NEED TO GO HOME TO ATTEND TO OTHER THINGS WE COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND THAT AS WELL.

SO THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR BEING HERE. OUR NEXT PRESENTATION THIS EVENING IS GOING TO BE OUR SCHOOL PRESENTATION FROM LYNNWOOD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.

[7. SCHOOL PRESENTATIONS- 6:50 pm]

AND WE'RE GOING TO BEGIN THIS EVENING WITH OUR WITH OUR STUDENT PRESENTATION, WHICH WE'RE VERY MUCH LOOKING FORWARD TO.

SO THANK YOU.

GOOD EVENING, PRESIDENT KATIMS, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD , STUDENT REPRESENTATIVES AND DOCTOR MINER AND AUDIENCE.

MY NAME IS JACKLYN HENLY, AND I AM SO PROUD TO BE THE PRINCIPAL AT LYNNWOOD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL .

AND MY NAME IS MARCY CALIFF. I'M ADMINISTRATIVE INTERN AT LYNNWOOD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL .

WE ARE THRILLED THIS EVENING TO BE ABLE TO INTRODUCE OUR STUDENT PRESENTERS WHO WILL SPEAK TO YOU ABOUT OUR SCHOOL COMMUNITY THIS EVENING.

GOOD EVENING, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD . I'M LILY ROJAS, AND WE STUDENTS ARE EXCITED TO BE WITH YOU TONIGHT TO SHARE ABOUT THE WORK THAT WE ARE DOING TO SUPPORT OUR SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT, BELONGING GOAL AND ALL OF THE THINGS THAT WE FIND IMPORTANT AS SCHOOL LEADERS TO SUPPORT THIS GOAL.

OUR GOAL IS THAT FOR GRADES KINDERGARTEN THROUGH SIXTH.

84% OF STUDENTS WILL IDENTIFY A SENSE OF BELONGING AS MEASURED BY OUR SOCIAL EMOTIONAL SURVEY.

TONIGHT, ALL OF OUR SIXTH GRADE PRESENTERS ARE FERRAH, EVA, ADRIANNA, ALLISON, NATALIE, IRIE, MADISON, AND SAMARRA. THIS GOAL IS GROUNDED BY OUR SCHOOL'S VISION STATEMENT FOR COMMUNITY AND PERSONAL CHARACTER. IT STATES THAT OUR GOAL IS A PEACEFUL COMMUNITY, FREE FROM BULLYING THAT WE VALUE RESPECTING OURSELVES AND OTHERS WORKING TO BE A POSITIVE FORCE WITHIN OUR COMMUNITY. THE GOAL IS ALSO GROUNDED IN OUR LEOPARD CODE.

OUR LEOPARD CODE HELPS PROVIDE CLEAR EXPECTATIONS FOR EVERYONE.

LET ME WALK YOU THROUGH OUR CODES. WE ARE RESPECTFUL.

WE TREAT OTHERS HOW WE WANT TO BE TREATED AND VALUE OTHERS EVEN IF THEY ARE DIFFERENT.

WE ARE RESPONSIBLE. WE ARE PREPARED FOR CLASS.

WE ARE READY TO LEARN SO THAT WE ENGAGE IN OUR LEARNING.

AS STUDENTS, WE HAVE DEVELOPED STRATEGIES TO HELP PROMOTE STUDENT LEADERSHIP AND KINDNESS TO HELP GROW A SENSE OF BELONGING.

[00:15:06]

HERE ARE SOME STRATEGIES WE HAVE IMPLEMENTED.

ONE, SCHOOL COUNCIL. TWO, MODELING AND SUPPORTING BEHAVIORS AND GOOD CITIZENSHIP.

THREE, CREATING KINDNESS AND SPREADING KINDNESS THROUGHOUT OUR SCHOOL.

EXAMPLES OF PRACTICING KINDNESS IS A BUDDY BENCH, WHERE OUR STUDENTS CAN REACH OUT AND CONNECT WITH OTHERS AT RECESS, AND THROUGH THE KINDNESS SQUAD, WHERE OUR 3RD GRADE IS WELCOME AND SPREAD POSITIVITY IN OUR SCHOOL COMMUNITY.

FOUR, FINALLY LEARNING ABOUT AND TEACH OTHERS ABOUT SOCIAL EMOTIONAL REGULATION AND GOOD CITIZENSHIP AND HOW TO BE A GOOD UPSTANDER.

WE WILL FURTHER DISCUSS THESE STRATEGIES. OUR GUIDING BODY IS THE STUDENT COUNCIL.

THIS COUNCIL REPRESENTS SORRY. THIS COUNCIL REPRESENTS CLASSROOMS AND HELPS MAKE DECISIONS IN OUR SCHOOL COMMUNITY GIVING STUDENTS A VOICE.

WE ARE EXCITED TO SHARE SOME OF THE INITIATIVES OUR STUDENT COUNCIL HAS BEEN WORKING ON THIS YEAR TO ENHANCE OUR SCHOOL COMMUNITY.

THE FIRST INITIATIVE IS TO SUPPORT BELONGING BY COLLECTING DATA TO UNDERSTAND HOW WE CAN SUPPORT EVERY STUDENT AT OUR SCHOOL.

THE SECOND INITIATIVE IS OUR KINDNESS CAMPAIGNS BY ORGANIZING A TOY AND FOOD DRIVE TO SUPPORT THOSE IN NEED.

LEADERS IN OUR SCHOOL WORK TO MAKE OUR SCHOOL A POSITIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT BY HELPING TEACH AND REINFORCE BEHAVIORS WE WANT TO SEE IN ALL OF OUR SHARED SPACES, LIKE THE CAFETERIA, ON THE PLAYGROUND, IN THE BATHROOM.

MULTIPLE TIMES A YEAR, OUR STUDENTS ROTATE THROUGH OUR SHARED SPACES, AND WE HELP TO TEACH AND GIVE IMPORTANT REMINDERS SO THAT THESE SPACES GO SMOOTHLY.

BUDDY BENCHES ARE SPECIAL BENCHES PLACED IN OUR SCHOOL PLAYGROUND.

THEY SERVE AS A SPACE FOR STUDENTS WHO MAY NEED A FRIEND OR SOMEONE TO PLAY WITH.

WHEN A STUDENT IS SITTING ON THE BUDDY BENCH, THEY CAN APPROACH AND INVITE THEM TO JOIN AN ACTIVITY GAME OR CONVERSATION.

THE BUDDY BENCH HELPS PROMOTE KINDNESS AND INCLUSIVITY.

THEY HELP US SUPPORT ONE ANOTHER SO THAT NO ONE IS LEFT OUT.

THIS YEAR WE START OUR BUDDY BENCH AMBASSADOR PROGRAM.

THE KINDNESS SQUAD IS A GROUP OF STUDENTS DEDICATED TO SPREADING KINDNESS AND POSITIVITY THROUGHOUT OUR SCHOOL.

THE SOLE PURPOSE IS TO SPREAD JOY. THE JOY IS SPREAD THROUGH A KINDNESS CART THAT HANDS OUT GOODIES, PLAYFUL PRANKS, AND GREETING STAFF AND STUDENTS ON FRIDAY MORNINGS.

WE BELIEVE THAT SMALL ACTS OF KINDNESS CAN CREATE A RIPPLE EFFECT, ENCOURAGING OTHERS TO DO THE SAME.

OUR SIXTH GRADE SOCIAL EMOTIONAL CABINET HAS BEEN CREATING AND PERFORMING SKITS THAT ADDRESS REAL LIFE BULLYING SITUATIONS, HIGHLIGHTING THE IMPORTANCE OF KINDNESS AND RESPECT AT OUR SCHOOL. WE PERFORMED ANTI-BULLYING SKITS FOR KINDERGARTEN.

THESE SKITS ARE A FUN AND ENGAGING WAY FOR US TO EXPRESS OUR UNDERSTANDING OF ANTI-BULLYING MESSAGES.

THE CABINET HAS ALSO COLLABORATED TO PRODUCE VIDEOS THAT PROMOTE ANTI-BULLYING INITIATIVES ACROSS THE SCHOOL.

THESE VIDEOS FEATURE STUDENT VOICES AND EXPERIENCES TO RAISE AWARENESS AND ENCOURAGE RESPECTFUL BEHAVIORS AMONG ALL STUDENTS.

WE ARE EXCITED TO LATER THIS YEAR PLAN AND PRESENT THE SECOND ANNUAL MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS ESCAPE ROOM.

THIS IS A FUN AND ENGAGING WAY FOR US TO DEMONSTRATE OUR LEARNING AND IDENTIFYING EARLY WARNING SITUATIONS OF MENTAL HEALTH MENTAL HEALTH CONCERNS, POSITIVE WAYS TO COPE, AND HOW TO HELP OUR FRIENDS.

YOU MIGHT BE THINKING IN YOUR MIND, WHAT DOES THIS SENSE OF BELONGING DO FOR OUR ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE? WELL, IT DOES A LOT OF THINGS. A SENSE OF BELONGING GIVES US THE COURAGE TO ASK FOR HELP, TO TAKE RISKS, AND TO BELIEVE IN OURSELVES WHEN WE FEEL SUPPORTED AND VALUED LEARNING BECOMES MORE ENJOYABLE.

WE'RE MORE LIKELY TO PARTICIPATE IN CLASS, COMPLETE OUR ASSIGNMENTS, AND EVEN CHALLENGE OURSELVES TO GO FURTHER.

BELONGING ISN'T JUST ABOUT MAKING FRIENDS, IT'S ABOUT FEELING SEEN, HEARD, AND RESPECTED.

IT'S ABOUT KNOWING THAT YOU HAVE A PLACE IN THIS COMMUNITY.

AND WHEN WE FEEL LIKE WE BELONG, WE'RE NOT JUST STUDENTS, WE'RE PART OF SOMETHING BIGGER.

WE'RE A COMMUNITY OF LEARNERS GROWING AND DOING WELL TOGETHER.

SO REMEMBER, THE POWER OF BELONGING IS REAL. IT CAN TRANSFORM YOUR SCHOOL EXPERIENCE AND UNLOCK YOUR FULL POTENTIAL.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AND ATTENTION. ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS WE CAN ANSWER? YOU HAD A QUESTION FOR YOU GUYS SPECIFICALLY ABOUT THE BUDDY BENCH.

COULD YOU GIVE ME A LITTLE BIT MORE INFORMATION ON THAT? SOMEONE'S RAISING THEIR HAND, SO I'LL LET YOU GO AHEAD.

THE BUDDY BENCH IS LIKE WHAT SHE SAID. IT'S LIKE WHERE PEOPLE CAN SIT ON THERE AND IF THEY NEED A FRIEND OR IF THEY OR THEIR FRIEND HAS LEFT THEM AND LIKE A NEW FRIEND WILL APPROACH THEM AND THEY WILL SIT WITH THEM, EITHER HAVE A CONVERSATION WITH THEM, INVITE THEM TO PLAY A GAME WITH THEM LIKE WITH THEIR OTHER FRIENDS.

SO I GUESS MY FOLLOW UP TO THAT IS, ARE THERE PEOPLE WHO KEEP AN EYE ON THE BUDDY BENCH, OR IS IT SORT OF JUST AN INVITATION FOR OTHERS TO APPROACH THE PERSON WHO GOES TO THE

[00:20:06]

BENCH? WELL, WE'RE STARTING LIKE PEOPLE WHO GO OUT TO RECESS SPECIFICALLY FOR THIS REASON, AND THEY'LL GO OUT THERE AND THEY'LL LIKE, INTENTIONALLY DO THAT.

YEAH. PERFECT. THANK YOU. SO I JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU FOR HAVING THE COURAGE TO COME TO A SCHOOL BOARD MEETING AND TALK TO A BUNCH OF DIRECTORS UP HERE. AND I JUST THINK YOU GUYS HAVE DONE AN EXTRAORDINARY JOB.

YOU SHOULD PAT YOURSELF ON THE BACK FOR HAVING THAT COURAGE AND STEPPING FORWARD, BUT ALSO ENGAGING AS LEADERS.

YOU'RE PROVIDING AN EXAMPLE FOR ALL THE OTHER KIDS THAT COME AFTER YOU.

AND THE MORE YOU DO IT, THE STRONGER YOU DO IT, THE MORE WILL COME.

AND I ALSO WANT YOU TO TAKE A LOOK AROUND THIS ROOM TO THE OTHER STUDENT LEADERS THAT ARE HERE.

WE HAVE THEM UP HERE ON THE SCHOOL BOARD. AND THEY ARE ALSO LIKE YOU.

EXCUSE ME? LIKE YOU INTERESTED IN MAKING THEIR COMMUNITY BETTER BY SERVING THE BROADER SCHOOL COMMUNITY.

AND THESE GUYS, HOPEFULLY YOU WILL BE IN THEIR SEATS SOMEDAY AS WELL.

SO THANK YOU. I'M REALLY IMPRESSED WITH ALL THE IDEAS THAT ARE COMPONENTS OF THIS PLAN, AND I HOPE THAT YOU GET SOME GREAT RESULTS. SPEAKING OF THE RESULT, I'M CURIOUS TO KNOW A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE SURVEY FOR K2 THAT THE BUILDING IS DEVELOPING. CAN YOU TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT THAT? SURE FOR OUR KINDERGARTEN THROUGH SECOND GRADE STUDENTS, WE HAVE TAKEN SOME OF THE QUESTIONS THAT APPEAR ON THE THIRD THROUGH SIXTH GRADE SURVEY, AND WE HAVE MODIFIED THEM TO BE DEVELOPMENTALLY APPROPRIATE FOR OUR KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS.

SO THE QUESTIONS STEM FOR AROUND SENSE OF BELONGING.

DO STUDENTS HAVE FRIENDS? DO THEY HAVE A CONNECTED ADULT IN THEIR COMMUNITY THAT THEY TRUST? AND THEN THERE ARE SOME OTHER QUESTIONS THAT ALSO APPEAR ON THE SOCIAL EMOTIONAL SURVEY JUST AROUND MANAGING EMOTIONS GROWTH MINDSET, BELIEF THAT THEY CAN DO HARD THINGS WHEN THINGS BECOME CHALLENGING IN THE CLASSROOM.

SO WE'VE SHORTENED THE SURVEY. WE'VE USED MORE GRADE LEVEL APPROPRIATE LANGUAGE, BUT ARE GIVING IT AT THE EXACT SAME TIME AS OUR THIRD THROUGH SIXTH GRADERS SO THAT WE CAN KEEP A LENS ON OUR KINDERGARTEN THROUGH SECOND GRADE STUDENTS AS WELL.

AS YOU GET RESULTS FROM THAT. I HOPE YOU'LL SHARE IT IF IT HAS SUCCESSFULLY CAPTURED THAT BECAUSE I THINK WE COULD BE LOOKING AT OUR BELONGING IN K-2 AS WELL. IT'S A GREAT IDEA.

THANK YOU. WE'D BE HAPPY TO DO THAT. DO ANY OF OUR STUDENTS HAVE ANY COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS? HERE, I'LL GO. I'M JUST. YEAH. ANYWAYS, I REALLY WANT I WANTED TO SAY THAT I REALLY LIKED AND I THOUGHT IT WAS IMPORTANT THAT YOU GUYS WERE SAYING OUT LOUD AND ALSO LIKE, ACKNOWLEDGING HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO LIKE WHEN YOU'RE NOT JUST LIKE ONE INDIVIDUAL STUDENT ANYMORE AND YOU'RE LIKE A PART OF SOMETHING BIGGER IN THE COMMUNITY. AND HOW YOU TALKED ABOUT HOW, LIKE, THE BUDDY BENCHES WAS KIND OF A WAY OF LIKE BEING A PART OF PART OF SOMETHING BIGGER THAN JUST AN INDIVIDUAL ONE OF YOU.

I THINK THAT'S REALLY POWERFUL AND I LIKE THAT YOU SAID THAT AND THEN I WROTE THIS DOWN AS A QUESTION, BUT MAYBE IT WAS ALREADY ANSWERED A LITTLE BIT.

YOU GUYS TALKED ABOUT THE DATA YOU COLLECTED.

I WAS WONDERING MAYBE IF YOU COULD ELABORATE ON THAT, LIKE WHAT KIND OF DATA WAS COLLECTED? SURE. THE PRIMARY BASE IS THAT SURVEY DATA THAT WE WERE JUST REFERRING TO WE GIVE THAT SURVEY TWICE, SOMETIMES THREE TIMES A YEAR, DEPENDING ON OUR LEADERSHIP TEAM.

AND SO OUR STUDENT COUNCIL AND OUR LEADERS, AS PART OF THE SOCIAL EMOTIONAL CABINET, WILL LOOK AT THAT DATA AS WELL AS OUR STAFF TEAMS AS WELL.

AND THEN THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, FORMATIVELY, WE'RE COLLECTING FEEDBACK DATA FROM OUR STUDENT COUNCIL AND THIS GROUP OF LEADERS JUST AROUND DIFFERENT AREAS OF OUR SCHOOL THAT ARE DOING WELL, THINGS THAT COULD BE IMPROVED, AND GETTING A REAL THUMB ON THE PULSE AS TO HOW STUDENTS ARE FEELING.

THAT'S AWESOME. THAT'S REALLY IMPORTANT. THAT'S ALL I WANTED TO SAY. THANKS. WELL, I JUST WANTED TO FLEX REAL QUICK.

I USED TO GO TO LYNNWOOD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL , AND IT'S REALLY NICE TO SEE ALL THESE IMPROVEMENTS HAPPENING, ESPECIALLY FOR THE YOUNGER GENERATION HAVING GONE THERE PREVIOUSLY. THE TWO THINGS THAT STOOD OUT TO ME WAS ONE THE BUDDY BENCH.

I THINK THAT'S A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO INCLUDE KIDS WHO ARE SHY, OR MIGHT NOT REALLY WANT TO ASK OTHER KIDS TO PLAY WITH THEM.

I THINK THAT'S A PERFECT OPPORTUNITY TO KIND OF INCREASE THAT SENSE OF BELONGING FOR STUDENTS AND THE MENTAL HEALTH ESCAPE ROOMS. I BELIEVE THAT THAT'S REALLY INTERESTING.

WELL, IT'S INTERESTING AND IMPORTANT TO HAVE THOSE CONVERSATIONS AND DO THOSE ACTIVITIES WITH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS, ESPECIALLY AS YOU COME INTO MIDDLE SCHOOL OR EVEN HIGH SCHOOL AND OUTSIDE POST SCHOOL WORLD THERE ARE A LOT OF CHALLENGES THAT YOU'RE GOING TO FACE AND A LOT OF OBSTACLES.

[00:25:08]

SO BEING ABLE TO RECOGNIZE MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES AND KNOWING HOW TO DEAL WITH MENTAL HEALTH IS VERY IMPORTANT AT A YOUNG AGE.

I'D LIKE TO SAY HOW WONDERFUL IT IS TO HEAR YOU TALK ABOUT WHAT YOU'RE DOING FOR KINDNESS AND POSITIVITY.

IT BUILDS SUCH A WONDERFUL COMMUNITY AND A VERY STRONG STUDENT COMMUNITY, AND YOU ALL ARE LEADERS DOING WONDERFUL THINGS.

I HAVE ONE QUESTION I'D LOVE TO KNOW AN EXAMPLE OF WHAT A POSITIVE PRANK IS THAT YOU'VE DONE.

IT PROBABLY WILL BE LIKE, MAYBE THEY LEAVE LIKE A TREAT AT THE DOOR OR SOMETHING LIKE A NOTE OR SOMETHING THAT LIKE, SAYS SOMETHING NICE ABOUT THEM, OR LIKE A BUNCH OF LETTERS THAT THE STUDENTS MADE TO LEAVE AT A DOOR FOR ALL THE STUDENTS IN THAT CLASSROOM.

GREAT. SOMEBODY ELSE WANT TO SAY SOMETHING? I SEE A HAND.

THEY CAN LIKE WHEN TEACHERS ARE FEELING LIKE HUNGRY, THEY CAN LIKE ASK TEACHERS IF THEY WANT A SNACK.

CAN YOU TALK LOUDER INTO THE MIC SO EVERYBODY CAN HEAR? LIKE WHEN TEACHERS ARE LIKE, FEELING HUNGRY AND LIKE WHEN IT'S ABOUT TO BE LUNCHTIME, THEY CAN ASK LIKE THE KIND OF SCHOOL CAN ASK IF THE TEACHERS WANT TO SNACK. NICE. YEAH. THAT'S GREAT. THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH.

IT TAKES A LOT OF COURAGE TO COME AND TALK TO A GROUP LIKE THIS, BUT WE LOVE HEARING FROM YOU AND THE KINDS OF WONDERFUL THINGS YOU'RE DOING AT YOUR SCHOOL. SO KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. [APPLAUSE] THANK YOU. AND NOW WE HAVE PRINCIPAL JACKLYN HENLY TO SHARE A LITTLE BIT MORE INFORMATION ABOUT LYNNWOOD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND THEIR CURRENT SIP PRESENTATION AND PLAN.

OH, WAIT, WAIT, CAN I GET A PICTURE WITH COUNCIL? OH. YOU DID. SORRY, WE'RE JUST TALKING. SORRY, SORRY.

WELL, GOOD EVENING AGAIN. MEMBERS OF THE SCHOOL BOARD, EDUCATORS, AND GUESTS.

AGAIN, I AM JACKLYN HENLY , AND I'M LUCKY TO SERVE AS PRINCIPAL AT LYNNWOOD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL .

AND I'M MARCY CALIFF, ADMINISTRATIVE INTERN AT LYNNWOOD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL .

AND WE'RE EXCITED TO DISCUSS WITH YOU OUR SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT PLAN.

OUR PLANS OF ACTION AND STRATEGIES AROUND OUR SPECIFIC LITERACY GOAL THAT WE'LL SHARE TONIGHT.

AND FINALLY, SOME CURRENT ASSESSMENTS AND PROGRESS TOWARDS MEETING THOSE GOALS.

TONIGHT, WE'D LIKE TO SHARE WITH YOU OUR LITERACY GOAL FOR OUR SCHOOL THREE YEAR IMPROVEMENT PLAN.

OUR LITERACY GOAL IS THAT 51% OF OUR THIRD THROUGH SIXTH GRADE STUDENTS WILL DEMONSTRATE PROFICIENCY ON THE SMARTER BALANCED ASSESSMENT BY THE END OF SPRING 2027.

THIS IS AN INCREASE FROM OUR BASELINE PERFORMANCE IN THE SPRING OF 2024 OF 41%, AND WE HOPE TO INCREASE THAT GOAL ANNUALLY BY 3% EVERY YEAR IN THIS THREE YEAR GOAL. ANNUALLY, WE'LL BE MEASURING THAT BENCHMARK GOAL FOR SMARTER BALANCED ASSESSMENT IN ADDITION TO MONITORING USING THE I-READY READING DIAGNOSTIC.

OUR HOPE IS THAT BY THE END OF THIS YEAR, 47% OF OUR STUDENTS WILL DEMONSTRATE GRADE LEVEL PROFICIENCY ON THAT I-READY DIAGNOSTIC AS WELL.

THIS IS AN INCREASE FROM OUR BASELINE PERFORMANCE OF 44% AT THE END OF LAST SPRING, AND A GROWTH FROM OUR STUDENTS PERFORMANCE ON THE FALL DIAGNOSTIC TAKEN IN SEPTEMBER AT 34%. WE'VE SELECTED THE SCHOOL TO SHARE WITH YOU THIS EVENING, AS OUR COMMUNITY STILL DEMONSTRATES A NEED FOR READING IMPROVEMENT.

AND IT'S BEEN AN AREA OF FOCUS FOR US OVER THIS LAST THREE YEARS SIP CYCLE, OUR SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT CYCLE.

AND WE AS A COMMUNITY HAVE A DESIRE TO BUILD UPON THE MOMENTUM THAT WE HAVE MADE AND THE CONTINUOUS GROWTH.

SOME EXAMPLES OF THINGS THAT WE HAVE CONCENTRATED SO FAR IN OUR LAST THREE YEAR SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT CYCLE WERE AROUND REINFORCING AND STRENGTHENING OUR TIER ONE CORE INSTRUCTION.

AND NOW THAT WE HAVE SPENT SOME TIME FOCUSING ON THAT AS A STAFF, WE'RE IMPROVING AND BUILDING UPON THAT BY CONTINUING TO EMPHASIZE NOW INTERVENTION AND ENRICHMENT. WE ARE BUILDING OUT SYSTEMS OF MULTI TIERED SUPPORT AND STRENGTHENING OUR STAFF CULTURE OF PROFESSIONAL LEARNING AND COLLABORATION. OUR THEORY OF ACTION IS THAT IF WE DO THE FOLLOWING ACTION STEPS, WE WILL YIELD THE POSITIVE RESULTS WE DESIRE TO SEE. THESE ACTION STEPS INCLUDE PROVIDING A CURRICULUM THAT IS BOTH GUARANTEED AND VIABLE.

[00:30:02]

ALIGNING OUR SCOPE AND SCOPE AND SEQUENCE ACROSS ALL GRADE LEVELS IN BOTH CONTENTS.

ADDITIONALLY, ALIGNING OUR ASSESSMENTS FOR BOTH INTENT AND MEANS OF COLLECTING DATA AS WELL AS COLLABORATIVELY ANALYZING DATA FOCUSING IN ON STUDENT LEARNING AND PHONICS FLUENCY AND COMPREHENSION. AND IMPLEMENTING INTERVENTIONS AND ENRICHMENT FOR OUR STUDENTS WITH AN EMPHASIS ON SUPPORTING OUR MULTILINGUAL LEARNERS.

THE GOAL IS THAT IF WE FOLLOW THESE ACTION STEPS, IT WILL DRIVE THE FOLLOWING OUTCOMES.

WE WILL ENSURE EQUITABLE ACCESS SO THAT EVERY STUDENT WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO ENGAGE IN HIGH QUALITY, CHALLENGING LEARNING. ALSO, EQUIPPING OUR STUDENTS WITH THE NECESSARY LITERACY SKILLS TO PERFORM AT OR ABOVE GRADE LEVEL, AND ULTIMATELY AN OVERALL INCREASE IN STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT.

WE'VE PRIORITIZED STRATEGIES TO ACTUALIZE THIS LITERACY GOAL, AND WE'LL SHARE THREE OF THOSE TONIGHT.

THE FIRST, AS MARCY MENTIONED, WAS TO PROVIDE A GUARANTEED AND VIABLE CURRICULUM.

THIS YEAR, WE'RE FOCUSING ON ALIGNING OUR ASSESSMENTS AND OUR DATA PRACTICES ACROSS ALL OF OUR CLASSROOMS. THIS IS IMPORTANT BECAUSE IT NOT ONLY WOULD ALIGN OUR PRACTICES ACROSS ALL OF OUR CLASSROOMS, BUT IT WOULD ENSURE THAT WE ARE IMPLEMENTING THOSE DISTRICT ADOPTED CURRICULUMS WITH FIDELITY, AND THAT WE ARE COLLECTING THE SAME HIGH QUALITY, FORMATIVE DATA THAT WE CAN THEN COLLABORATE ON AS INSTRUCTIONAL PRACTITIONERS AND USE IT TO INFORM OUR NEXT STEPS. OUR SECOND STRATEGY IS TO DESIGN AND IMPLEMENT TIER TWO INTERVENTION.

THIS IS IMPORTANT FOR US BECAUSE IT WOULD CONTINUE TO HELP US ENSURE THAT WE'RE CREATING ACCESS FOR ALL OF OUR LEARNERS, MEETING THEM WHERE THEY ARE AT IN ORDER TO FURTHER THEIR GROWTH.

IT HELPS US BUILD OUR SCHOOL WIDE SYSTEMS OF SUPPORT, HOW OUR CLASSROOMS ARE INTEGRATED WITH OUR SUPPORT TEAMS THROUGHOUT THE BUILDING, AND AS WE LOOK AND ANALYZE THAT ASSESSMENT DATA AND INFORM OUR INTERVENTION SYSTEMS, I T INCREASES OUR PRACTITIONER KNOWLEDGE AND PRACTICES SO THAT ALL OF OUR STAFF ARE USING THE BEST INSTRUCTIONAL PRACTICES TO MEET STUDENT NEED, AND IT'S INCREASING OUR COLLECTIVE EFFICACY AS A WHOLE INSTRUCTIONAL TEAM.

OUR THIRD AND FINAL STRATEGY IS TO SUPPORT OUR MULTILINGUAL LEARNERS WITH AN EMPHASIS ON SPEAKING AND ORACY.

THIS IS IMPORTANT FOR US BECAUSE APPROXIMATELY 1 IN 3 OR 31% OF OUR STUDENTS AT LYNNWOOD ARE MULTILINGUAL STUDENTS, AND HISTORICALLY, OUR MULTILINGUAL STUDENTS HAVE NOT PERFORMED AT GRADE LEVEL STANDARD AS COMPARED TO THEIR ENGLISH SPEAKING PEERS.

AND WE KNOW, BASED ON OUR KNOWLEDGE OF CONTENT AND PEDAGOGY, THAT ORACY AND A WELL-DEVELOPED SET OF LANGUAGE SKILLS IS KEY TO LITERACY.

TO PROGRESS MONITOR OUR LITERACY GOAL WE ARE UTILIZING MULTIPLE ASSESSMENTS THROUGHOUT THE ACADEMIC YEAR.

BY UTILIZING USING MULTIPLE DATA POINTS, WE ARE ABLE TO EXAMINE OUR STUDENTS AND STUDENT GROWTH COMPREHENSIVELY.

BEING RESPONSIVE TO STUDENTS NEEDS IN TIMELY WAYS.

THESE ASSESSMENTS INCLUDE THE SMARTER BALANCED ASSESSMENT IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS, GIVEN TO ALL STUDENTS THIRD THROUGH SIXTH GRADE IN THE SPRING.

THE I-READY DIAGNOSTIC AND READING, GIVEN TO ALL STUDENTS THIRD THROUGH SIXTH GRADE THREE TIMES A YEAR.

OUR WINTER BENCHMARK FOR I-READY CLOSES ON FEBRUARY 7TH, AND THE ACADIANCE READING ASSESSMENT IS GIVEN TO ALL STUDENTS KINDERGARTEN THROUGH SECOND GRADE AND SELECT STUDENTS THIRD THROUGH SIXTH GRADE, ALSO THREE TIMES A YEAR.

SO THIS ASSESSMENT IDENTIFIES STUDENTS WHO MAY REQUIRE ADDITIONAL READING INTERVENTION AND INFORMS OUR SHARED MULTI-TIERED SYSTEMS OF SUPPORT.

ADDITIONALLY, WE HAVE THE WIDA ASSESSMENT, WHICH MONITORS GROWTH IN DEVELOPING LANGUAGE SKILLS.

THIS IS GIVEN TO ALL STUDENTS RECEIVING MULTILINGUAL SERVICES, AND IT IS GIVEN NOW THROUGH THE END OF MARCH, WE ALSO HAVE FINALLY OUR CLASSROOM FORMATIVE ASSESSMENTS.

THIS INCLUDES 95% PHONICS UNITS OF STUDY IN READING, RUNNING RECORDS AND IMAGINE LEARNING, AND THIS HAS GIVEN CONTINUOUSLY THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL YEAR TO ALL STUDENTS.

TO PROGRESS MONITOR OUR LITERACY GOAL, WE'RE UTILIZING THOSE ASSESSMENTS THAT MARCY HAS SHARED.

WE ARE CURRENTLY IN THE THE MIDDLE OF OUR WINTER BENCHMARK ASSESSMENT FOR I-READY, AND WE'LL LATER ON THIS SPRING RUN THAT I-READY DIAGNOSTIC AND READING, AS WELL AS THE SMARTER BALANCED ASSESSMENT TO GIVE US OUR END RESULT FOR THIS YEAR'S DATA.

WHILE WE DON'T HAVE FINALIZED WINTER DIAGNOSTIC DATA, WE HAVE HAD A SIGNIFICANT NUMBER OF OUR STUDENTS TAKE THAT 98% OF OUR EXCUSE ME, 92% OF OUR STUDENTS HAVE COMPLETED THAT WINTER DIAGNOSTIC FROM THIRD THROUGH SIXTH GRADE, AND WE'RE TRENDING AROUND 40% PROFICIENCY.

SO THE GRAPH ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE WILL SHOW YOU OUR FALL PROFICIENCY OF 34%, WITH OUR WINTER BENCHMARK BEING INCREASED UP TO 40.

[00:35:03]

ULTIMATELY, WITH OUR GOAL AT THE END OF THE YEAR TO BE AT 47%.

SO WE STILL HAVE A FEW STUDENTS DATA TO TRICKLE IN, BUT WE ARE ON TRACK TO REACH THAT END GOAL.

OUTSIDE OF OUR ASSESSMENTS DATA, WE HAVE MADE PROGRESS ON SOME OF OUR ACTION STEPS AS WELL.

AN EXAMPLE OF THIS IS OUR PROFESSIONAL LEARNING COMMUNITIES.

IN THE WORK THAT THEY ARE DOING, WE HAVE INTENTIONALLY, WITHIN OUR BUILDING DIRECTED TIME PROVIDED IN COLLABORATION TIME FOR STAFF TO FIRM THEIR GUARANTEED AND VIABLE CURRICULUM, ALIGNING THEIR SCOPE AND SEQUENCES WITH AN EMPHASIS ON ALIGNED ASSESSMENTS.

WE HAVE TAKEN TIME TO MAKE SURE THAT TEACHERS ARE ALIGNED, ESPECIALLY IN OUR READING, PHONICS AND OUR UNITS OF STUDY ASSESSMENTS, SO THAT WE'RE COLLECTING THE SAME DATA AND WE'RE SPENDING ABOUT A THIRD OF OUR BUILDING DIRECTED TIME THIS YEAR IN DATA MEETINGS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR WHERE TEAMS ARE COMING TOGETHER, ANALYZING THAT DATA AND USING OUR MULTI-TIERED SYSTEMS OF SUPPORT PROTOCOL THAT OUR PILOT TEAM FOR OUR DISTRICT CREATED LAST YEAR TO, IN REAL TIME, ANALYZE THAT DATA, DETERMINE NEXT ACTION STEPS TO MEET STUDENTS WHERE THEY ARE.

OUR SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT TEAM HAS STRENGTHENED AND DEEPENED THEIR LEARNING AROUND MULTI-TIERED SYSTEMS OF SUPPORT THIS YEAR. WE'VE DONE A BUILDING ANALYSIS AND AFTER RECLASSIFYING SOME OF OUR TEAMS UNDERNEATH THE UMBRELLA OF THAT STRUCTURE, WE'RE CURRENTLY WORKING TOWARDS THE IDENTIFIED AREAS OF GROWTH FOR US IN BUILDING OUT THOSE TEAMS. AS PART OF THOSE TEAMS, ONE STRATEGY FOR INTERVENTION THAT WE ARE IMPLEMENTING THIS YEAR IS IMPLEMENTING WHAT WE CALL WIN TIME OR WHAT I NEED. WE HAVE TWO TEAMS THAT HAVE ADOPTED A WIN INTERVENTION MODEL, WHERE STUDENTS WALK TO SPECIFIC GROUPS THROUGHOUT LITERACY INTERVENTION TIME TO RECEIVE IN THE MOMENT JUST RIGHT FIT INSTRUCTION OR ENRICHMENT.

AND SO WE'RE HOPING TO EXPAND THIS MODEL TO MORE THAN OUR TWO CURRENT GRADE LEVEL TEAMS AFTER WE PROCESS AND LEARN FROM THEIR CYCLES OF INQUIRY.

AND LAST, AS A STAFF, WE'RE CONTINUING OUR ONGOING PROFESSIONAL LEARNING BEYOND INTERVENTION.

WE HAVE A SERIES OF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SESSIONS THAT REINFORCE ORACY AND INCREASING OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS TO HAVE SPEAKING PRACTICE WITHIN THE CLASSROOM AND REALLY KNOWING, ESPECIALLY OUR MULTILINGUAL STUDENTS, WELL AND DEEPLY.

AND LAST, A BIG PUSH FOR US AS WE LOOK AT AND ANALYZE OUR ASSESSMENT DATA, IS TO UNPACK OUR SMARTER BALANCED ASSESSMENT DATA FROM PRIOR YEARS, ESPECIALLY AROUND READING COMPREHENSION, TO IDENTIFY THE CLAIMS AND TARGETS WHERE WE HAVE SEEN STUDENTS SIGNIFICANTLY SEE MORE CHALLENGE. AND AS TEAMS PICK UP EITHER INTERIM ASSESSMENT BLOCKS, WHICH ARE PRACTICE ASSESSMENTS ESSENTIALLY FOR SMARTER BALANCED OR SOME OF THE INSTRUCTIONAL TOOLS THAT THE SMARTER BALANCED CONSORTIUM CAN PROVIDE TO EMBED WITHIN OUR CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION AND REALLY FIRM UP THOSE SKILLS THAT WE'RE SEEING AS AREAS OF GROWTH ON THAT ASSESSMENT BEFORE THE SPRING.

SO WE'RE GOING TO CONTINUE TO WORK ON THESE SCHOOLS WITHIN OUR COMMUNITY.

THAT'S PROGRESS THAT WE HAVE SO FAR, GIVEN THAT OUR FIRST BIG ASSESSMENT WINDOW IS YET TO CLOSE IN A FEW WEEKS.

SO AT THIS TIME, THAT WRAPS UP OUR PRESENTATION.

WHAT QUESTIONS DO YOU HAVE THAT WE CAN ANSWER? HI. SO HOW MANY YEARS HAVE YOU BEEN AT LYNNWOOD? I APOLOGIZE BECAUSE I JUST STARTED WITH THE BOARD LAST YEAR.

YEAH, THIS IS YEAR FIVE FOR ME. SO I STARTED IN 2019, 2020, THE YEAR WE WENT INTO CLOSURE FOR THE PANDEMIC.

OH, JEEZ. ROUGH YEAR? IT WAS A BIG YEAR OF LEARNING FOR SURE.

[LAUGHTER] SO WHAT PERCENTAGE OF THE THIRD GRADERS IN LIKE 2021 MET STANDARD, LIKE YOUR FIRST YEAR WHEN EVERYONE ACTUALLY TOOK THE SBA.

DO YOU HAVE THAT DATA? YEAH, 2021 WAS AN INTERESTING YEAR BECAUSE WE WERE TASKED WITH TAKING THE ASSESSMENT IN THE FALL AND THE SPRING.

AND SO OUR THIRD GRADERS THAT YEAR DIDN'T TAKE IT IN THE FALL BECAUSE THEY WERE NEW AS A GRADE LEVEL BAND TO TAKING IT.

SO IN 2019, I BROUGHT MY STATS HERE. WELL, 2019 IS BEFORE MY TIME.

THE FIRST TIME THAT STUDENTS ACTUALLY TOOK IT WHEN I STARTED MY TENURE WAS 2021, AND 32% OF OUR THIRD GRADERS PASSED.

THEY TOOK THE ELA PORTION OF IT. BUT THEY TOOK IT IN THE FALL.

THEY WOULD HAVE TAKEN THAT IN THE SPRING. OH, IN THE SPRING? SPRING. YEAH. SORRY. YEAH. OUR FOURTH GRADERS, WHO WOULD HAVE BEEN THE THIRD GRADERS WHEN WE WENT INTO CLOSURE, WERE AT 45% WHEN THEY TOOK THAT DIAGNOSTIC AND OR THAT ASSESSMENT IN THE FALL.

OKAY. AND THEN HOW WHAT PERCENTAGE OF THE CURRENT KINDERGARTNERS WERE READY FOR KINDERGARTEN? DO YOU HAVE THAT INFORMATION? I DO NOT HAVE THAT OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD. I'D HAVE TO LOOK THAT UP. BECAUSE I THINK THAT WOULD GIVE A MORE LIKE A REALLY CLEAR PICTURE OF WHICH KIDS YOU'RE TARGETING BETWEEN NOW AND YOUR GOAL. AND MY GUESS IS, IF YOU REALLY FOCUS ON EVERY INDIVIDUAL KINDERGARTNER COMING UP

[00:40:10]

WITH THE TIERS OF SUPPORT, THE TIER SYSTEMS OF SUPPORT THAT YOU'VE DESCRIBED MY GUESS IS YOU'D BE ABLE TO FAR SURPASS THE 51% BY FOCUSING ON THE COHORT. THANK YOU. AND THEN LAST QUESTION I HAD AND THEN I'LL LET SOMEONE ELSE TALK. WITH THE I-READY RESULTS FROM LAST YEAR, FOR EXAMPLE, HOW THEY DID IN THE SPRING.

HOW WELL DID THAT CORRELATE WITH THE SBA SCORES? IT WAS A FEW PERCENT HIGHER. I THINK IT WAS A DIFFERENCE OF ABOUT 6%.

TRENDING HIGHER ON THE I-READY SIDE THAN WE PERFORMED ON SBA.

6% AT THAT LEVEL IS PRETTY, PRETTY BIG, BIG DIFFERENCE, RIGHT? I MEAN, 6% IF WE'RE TALKING 6% WHEN WE'RE AT THE, YOU KNOW, 70% LEVEL IT'S A SMALLER PERCENTAGE OF THE PERCENT.

SEE WHAT I'M SAYING? SURE. SO OKAY. THANK YOU.

IT'S ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE'RE LOOKING AT AS A SCHOOL BOARD IS HOW WELL DO THEY CORRELATE? AND IS THE SUITE THAT WE PAY FOR HELPING THE KIDS TO EXCEL AT HIGHER LEVELS? SO I APPRECIATE THE INFORMATION. YEAH, I CAN SHARE WITH YOU.

ONE OF THE PREDICTIVE TOOLS OF I-READY IS BASED ON THE FALL DIAGNOSTIC.

IT WILL PREDICT ABOUT WHAT PERCENTAGE OF STUDENTS WILL PASS THE SMARTER BALANCED OR MEET GRADE LEVEL STANDARD ON THE SMARTER BALANCED ASSESSMENT FOR THIRD, FOURTH, FIFTH AND SIXTH WE WERE WITHIN 5% OF OUR FALL DIAGNOSTIC DATA.

AND SO THAT'S GOOD LEARNING FOR US AS WE LOOK AT OUR FALL DIAGNOSTIC THIS YEAR TO PREDICT AND HOPEFULLY IMPROVE THOSE SCORES AND OUTCOMES ON THE SMARTER BALANCED ASSESSMENT.

THANK YOU. YEAH, I JUST WANT TO CLARIFY, BECAUSE THERE WAS WHEN YOU WERE TALKING, THERE WAS SOME TALK ABOUT LIKE A FALL AND THEN A SPRING AND ALL OF THAT FOR THE TEST WE'RE LOOKING THE GOAL IS HOW THEY TEST IN THE SPRING.

CORRECT. CORRECT. OKAY. I JUST WANT TO CLARIFY THAT.

THANK YOU. OTHER COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS. I HAD JUST LIKE SMALL QUESTIONS.

SO YOU TALKED ABOUT ALL OF THE DIFFERENT ASSESSMENTS THAT YOU DO. HOW MUCH LIKE TIME LIKE OF LIKE PRACTICE TESTS OR LIKE PREPARATION.

LIKE, DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH THE STUDENTS GET FOR LIKE THE INDIVIDUAL DIFFERENT KINDS OF TESTING THAT YOU DO.

YEAH. SO FOR SMARTER BALANCED ASSESSMENT, THAT'S CERTAINLY SOMETHING THAT WE'RE LOOKING TO GIVE STUDENTS MORE PRACTICE WITH ESSENTIALLY BEFORE THAT WINDOW, WHEN THAT TESTING COMES AROUND DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR, WE WILL DO A PRACTICE AND A TRAINING TEST TO ENSURE THAT STUDENTS ARE FAMILIAR WITH THE TECHNOLOGICAL TOOLS, THE DASHBOARD THAT JUST GIVES THEM THE QUESTIONS, LET ALONE THE TYPES OF QUESTIONS, CONTENT OR STYLE. WE HAVE USED LESS INTERIM ASSESSMENT BLOCKS, WHICH ARE THOSE PRACTICE TESTS IN THE PAST, BUT THAT'S SOMETHING THAT OUR STAFF IS REALLY INVESTED IN LOOKING AT, BECAUSE WE FEEL THAT THE MORE STUDENTS ARE EXPERIENCED, NOT ONLY WITH THAT TECHNOLOGICAL ASPECT AND TESTING ON THE COMPUTER, BUT ALSO THE FORM OF THAT TEST, THE MORE EQUIPPED THAT THEY'RE GOING TO BE IN TERMS OF DOING WELL ON THOSE PROMPTS, THE RIGOR AND THE STAMINA INVOLVED WITH THAT.

STUDENTS DO DON'T DO AS MUCH PRACTICE FOR THAT I-READY DIAGNOSTIC.

HOWEVER, THEY ARE EXPECTED TO SPEND ABOUT TWO LESSONS A WEEK WEEKLY ON THEIR MY PATH, WHICH DOES GIVE THEM PRACTICE AND APPLICATION LESSONS THAT ARE SOMEWHAT AKIN TO WHAT THEY MIGHT SEE ON THAT PRACTICE DIAGNOSTIC OR ON THE OFFICIAL DIAGNOSTIC.

EXCUSE ME. SO I THINK IT'S A REALLY BIG BALANCE THAT WE AS PRACTITIONERS CONSIDER AN WE DON'T WANT TO OVER TEST OUR STUDENTS.

WE DON'T WANT TO STRESS THEM OUT WITH THE TEST. AND YET WE ALSO WANT THEM TO FEEL REALLY PREPARED AND TO USE IT AS AN INFORMATIVE TOOL TO HELP OUR TEACHERS BETTER PROVIDE QUALITY INSTRUCTION THAT WILL HELP SET UP FOR SUCCESS, AND THAT STUDENTS WILL BE FAMILIAR WITH IT AS WELL AND FEEL CONFIDENT.

YEAH, I THINK THAT MAKES SENSE. AND I LIKE WHAT YOU SAID ABOUT LIKE TRYING NOT TO OVER TEST THEM BECAUSE I WILL SAY LIKE TESTING TOO MUCH IS DEFINITELY LIKE A LOT.

AND THEN I ONLY HAD ONE OTHER QUESTION. YOU TALKED ABOUT LIKE YOUR GOALS LIKE THROUGH LIKE 2025 THROUGH LIKE 2027.

AND I WAS WONDERING HOW THOSE COMPARE LIKE WITH PRE COVID IF YOU KNOW.

YEAH. PRIOR TO MY TENURE, BEFORE WE WENT INTO COVID, WE WERE SITTING ABOUT OVERALL PROFICIENCY IN THE LOW 60S FOR SBA.

AND THEN POST COVID, OUR FIRST YEAR WE WERE AT 30, 34%.

YEAH THAT'S A BIG DIFFERENCE. YEAH BIG DIFFERENCE. OKAY, THAT WAS ALL I WAS WONDERING. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

THAT WAS VERY INFORMATIVE. AND IT REALLY APPEARS THAT YOU'RE BEING VERY INTENTIONAL USING STRATEGIES THAT ARE KNOWN STRATEGIES THAT SHOULD BE WORKING.

SO HERE'S HOPING AND WISHING. WE'RE LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING YOU MEET AND EXCEED YOUR GOALS.

THANK YOU.

[00:45:09]

[APPLAUSE] NEXT WE HAVE DOCTOR MINER, SUPERINTENDENT REPORT.

[8. SUPERINTENDENT REPORT-7:10 pm]

THANK YOU SO MUCH. TONIGHT, I AM JUST PLEASED TO GIVE YOU AN UPDATE ON OUR GRADING PRACTICES.

AS YOU RECALL, WHEN YOU SET YOUR 24 - 28 RESOLUTION ON GRADING PRACTICES, WE HAD A TIMELINE EMBEDDED IN THERE WHEN I'M GOING TO GIVE YOU SOME UPDATES. AND SO I'M PREPARED TO GIVE YOU THAT TONIGHT.

ON THE FIRST MEETING OF THE TASK FORCE WAS HELD ON JANUARY 21ST.

SO JUST ABOUT A WEEK AGO, IN A SIMILAR MANNER TO HOW WE SET UP THE AIR SPECIAL EDUCATION COMMUNICATION, WE'RE DOING SOMETHING VERY SIMILAR ON OUR WEB PAGE.

SO THIS WILL BE TRANSPARENT TO EVERYONE IN OUR COMMUNITY WHO WANTS TO GO THERE.

THERE'S A WEB PAGE ABOUT GRADING PRACTICES. YOU CAN FIND THAT EITHER BY PUTTING GRADING PRACTICES INTO THE SEARCH BAR IN THE WEBSITE OR GOING UNDER THE TAB ACADEMICS AND FINDING GRADING TASK FORCE THERE GRADING PRACTICES TASK FORCE.

EXCUSE ME. SO FAR YOU'LL ONLY SEE AN OVERVIEW OF THE PURPOSE OF THE GROUP AS WELL AS MINUTES FROM THEIR FIRST MEETING.

BUT AS WE ADD TO THAT, YOU'LL SEE MORE MATERIALS GO IN THERE AS THEY BECOME AVAILABLE.

THERE ARE 41 TEACHERS, SIX BUILDING ADMINISTRATORS AND THREE CENTRAL OFFICE ADMINISTRATORS ON THAT COMMITTEE.

SO A BIG COMMITTEE. THEY REPRESENT THE TEACHERS REPRESENT 11 CONTENT AREAS AND ALL OF THE SCHOOLS EXCEPT E-LEARNING WE'RE STILL ALL OF THE SECONDARY SCHOOLS. EXCUSE ME. STILL WORKING TO FIND SOMEONE FROM E-LEARNING TO PARTICIPATE THERE.

AND THEN ALL OF THE PARTICIPANTS. ONE OF THE THINGS THIS COMMITTEE IS DOING, WHICH I THINK IS A GREAT ADDITION, IS THEY'RE GIVING THEY'RE COMPLETING A SUMMARY OF THEIR WORK, WHICH THEN THE PARTICIPANTS IN THE COMMITTEE WILL DELIVER TO EACH SCHOOL AND SCHOOL BUILDING. AND SO THEY'LL GET TO HEAR FROM THEIR PERSON IN THEIR BUILDING WHO'S SERVING ON THE COMMITTEE ABOUT AN UPDATE ON THE COMMITTEE.

AND THEN JUST A REMINDER THAT WE ARE GOING TO HAVE A STUDY SESSION A WEEK FROM TONIGHT ABOUT THE GRADING PRACTICES.

SO WE'LL GO MUCH MORE IN DEPTH. THIS IS JUST A WAY FOR ME TO GET IT OUT THERE TO ALL THE PEOPLE WHO MIGHT BE LISTENING TONIGHT, BUT WE'LL GO MUCH MORE IN DEPTH INTO THEIR WORK WITH JASON AND OUR WORK THEN.

AND THEIR NEXT MEETING IS ON FEBRUARY 26TH, AND DOCTOR KATIMS WILL BE PRESENTING IN THAT MEETING.

STILL WORKING OUT THE DETAILS ON THAT, BUT TO REALLY SHARE THE BOARD'S INTEREST IN GRADING PRACTICES AND THIS RESOLUTION.

DO YOU ALL HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS? I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR THAT UPDATE.

WHAT'S EXCITING IS THE WORK IS UNDERWAY AND PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE OPPORTUNITY TO GIVE THEIR INPUT AND TO BRING OUT THE ISSUES AND CONCERNS AND HAVE THE DIALOG THAT'S NECESSARY BECAUSE IT IS A IT'S A BIG TASK, BUT IT'S VERY IMPORTANT IN TERMS OF, I THINK FOR EQUITY FOR OUR STUDENTS AND FAIRNESS FOR OUR STUDENTS.

WHEN YOU GO IN FOR THE 27TH TO PRESENT I JUST WANT TO SHARE MY OWN DAUGHTER'S EXPERIENCE TRANSITIONING FROM KINDERGARTEN OR FROM SIXTH GRADE INTO MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HAVING SIX DIFFERENT EXPECTATIONS TO TRY TO FIGURE OUT WAS A CHALLENGE.

JUST LIKE ABOUT A MONTH TO TRY TO FIGURE OUT HOW DOES THIS PERSON GRADE? HOW DOES THAT PERSON GRADE? THIS PERSON GIVES EXTRA CREDIT. THIS PERSON DOESN'T GIVE EXTRA CREDIT. AND SO IT'S REALLY ALL OVER THE MAP.

AND IT'S AS HARD AS IT IS FOR STUDENTS WHO ARE THERE THE ENTIRE TIME, IT'S MUCH MORE DIFFICULT AS PARENTS.

SO IF YOU COULD SHARE THAT FROM A PARENT PERSPECTIVE OF SOMEONE WHO'S IN SCHOOL RIGHT NOW.

I WILL. ALSO, AND I RECALL PREVIOUSLY WHEN WE TALKED ABOUT OUR RESOLUTION, OUR STUDENTS HERE TELLING US THAT FROM CLASS TO CLASS TO CLASS, IT WAS DIFFERENT. AND YOU HAD TO LIKE, OKAY, THAT'S THIS CLASS.

YOU KNOW, WHAT'S THE GRADING? WHAT'S THE EXPECTATIONS? SO I'M SURE IT'S PARTICULARLY IMPACTFUL FOR LIKE YOUR YOUNGEST DAUGHTER AS SHE GOES FROM OR ANY KID GOING FROM ELEMENTARY WHERE IT IS STANDARDS BASED GRADING.

AND, IT'S VERY CLEAR AND CONSISTENT ACROSS TEACHERS TO A SYSTEM WHERE EVERY TEACHER IS DOING GRADING IN THEIR OWN WAY.

AND FOR ALL THE FAMILIES. AND THE FAMILIES AND ALSO THE FAMILIES ARE LIKE, I DON'T KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON.

IT'S NOT. IT'S NOT IT'S NOT FAIR. HAWK, IF YOU WOULD LIKE, SEND ME AN EMAIL OR A MESSAGE WHERE YOU SUMMARIZE THAT. THAT'D BE GREAT. THANK YOU. SO THANK YOU, DOCTOR MINER AND JASON AND EVERYBODY WHO'S WORKING ON THE COMMITTEE.

WE REALLY APPRECIATE IT. SOUNDS LIKE IT'S UNDERWAY.

AND THE COMMUNICATION BACK TO THE SCHOOLS AND THE GIVE AND TAKE BETWEEN THE COMMITTEE AND THE SCHOOLS IS AN IMPORTANT PIECE THAT NEEDS TO BE HAPPENING.

SO THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THAT. WAS THERE ANYTHING ELSE IN YOUR REPORT?

[00:50:04]

ALL RIGHT. THAT WAS SUPER. SO NEXT ON THE AGENDA IS APPROVAL OF MINUTES.

[9. APPROVAL OF MINUTES-7:15 pm]

TONIGHT WE HAVE ONE SET OF MINUTES FROM THE JANUARY 14, 2025 REGULAR BUSINESS MEETING.

DO I HEAR A MOTION TO APPROVE AND A SECOND? I MOVE TO APPROVE.

SECOND. I'VE HEARD A MOTION TO APPROVE. AND A SECOND.

IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION? HEARING NONE. I'LL CALL FOR A VOTE.

ALL THOSE IN FAVOR OF APPROVING THE MINUTES FROM THE JANUARY 14, 2025 REGULAR BUSINESS MEETING, PLEASE INDICATE BY SAYING AYE. AYE. ALL THOSE OPPOSED SAY NAY.

ANY ABSTENTIONS? AND THE MINUTES FROM THE JANUARY 14, 2025 REGULAR BUSINESS MEETING ARE APPROVED.

NEXT WE HAVE OUR PUBLIC COMMENT SECTION. THE GUIDELINES REGARDING PUBLIC COMMENTS ARE ON THE DISTRICT WEBSITE.

[10. PUBLIC COMMENTS-7:10 pm]

THEY'RE ON EACH BOARD MEETING AGENDA. AND THERE'S A COPY ON THE TABLE WHERE PEOPLE SIGN IN TO MAKE A COMMENT.

WE ASK THAT YOU LIMIT YOUR COMMENT TO THREE MINUTES.

A TIMER WILL BE RUNNING SO THAT YOU CAN MONITOR YOUR TIME.

PLEASE BE SURE TO TELL US YOUR NAME, YOUR CITY OF RESIDENCE, YOUR RELATIONSHIP TO THE DISTRICT, AND THE AGENDA ITEM OR SCHOOL DISTRICT TOPIC YOU'RE ADDRESSING TONIGHT.

PUBLIC COMMENTS ARE MADE FROM THIS FRONT PODIUM THAT'S FACING US.

AND TONIGHT WE'LL START WITH STEVE KEELER. THANK YOU.

GOOD EVENING EVERYONE. MY NAME IS STEPHEN KEELER.

I'M A RESIDENT OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON. I HAVE NO STUDENTS IN THE DISTRICT SCHOOLS.

I'M SPEAKING TONIGHT ON SMARTER BALANCED ASSESSMENTS.

THE SINGLE PAGE DOCUMENT YOU'RE GETTING OR HAVE, SHOWS SMARTER BALANCED ASSESSMENTS IN THE SUBJECT MATTER MATHEMATICS FOR GRADES THREE THROUGH EIGHT AND TEN. SPECIFICALLY, THIS INFORMATION ANSWERS THE QUESTION WHAT PERCENT OF STUDENTS WERE ON TRACK FOR COLLEGE LEVEL LEARNING WITHOUT NEEDING REMEDIAL CLASSES? I'VE ADDED ONE LINE OF INFORMATION AT THE BOTTOM FOR THE SCHOOL YEAR 23-24.

FOR THIS PAST SCHOOL YEAR THE PERCENTAGE OF STUDENTS MEETING THIS CRITERION WAS 41.6%. IN THE FUTURE, WHEN I'M ABLE TO, AND AS LONG AS I'M ABLE TO I'LL KEEP UPDATING THIS DOCUMENT FOR YOU. IN CLOSING SUPERINTENDENT MINOR I'VE GONE THROUGH THREE SUPERINTENDENTS, INCLUDING YOU. AND LOOKING BACK THOSE YEARS, COMING TO THE PRESENT, I CANNOT REMEMBER A SINGLE SIP PRESENTATION BEFORE A BOARD MEETING THAT DEALT WITH OR SPOKE TO EXCELLENCE IN MATHEMATICS.

A CELEBRATION OF STUDENTS WHO EXCEL IN MATHEMATICS.

I'VE NEVER SEEN SUCH A PRESENTATION. I THROW THAT OUT FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION, AND I THANK YOU. THANK YOU. NEXT IS JASON MOORE.

JASON MOORE, LYNNWOOD. I CAN'T I DON'T KNOW IF YOU CAN TELL, BUT I'M VERY HAPPY TODAY.

TODAY IS A WONDERFUL DAY. OUR PRESIDENT. YOUR PRESIDENT, DONALD TRUMP, HAS ISSUED AN EXECUTIVE ORDER THAT IS TITLED.

SORRY, I DON'T HAVE THE TITLE. I'VE MISSED IT.

ANYWAYS, THIS EXECUTIVE ORDER, SECTION ONE STATES, ACROSS THIS COUNTRY TODAY, MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS ARE MAIMING AND STERILIZING A GROWING NUMBER OF IMPRESSIONABLE CHILDREN UNDER THE RADICAL AND FALSE CLAIM THAT ADULTS CAN CHANGE A CHILD'S SEX THROUGH A SERIES OF IRREVERSIBLE MEDICAL INTERVENTIONS. THIS DANGEROUS TREND WILL BE A STAIN ON OUR NATION'S HISTORY,

[00:55:03]

AND IT MUST END. COUNTLESS CHILDREN SOON REGRET THAT THEY HAVE BEEN MUTILATED AND BEGIN TO GRASP THE HORRIFYING TRAGEDY THAT THEY WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO CONCEIVE CHILDREN OF THEIR OWN OR NURTURE THEIR CHILDREN THROUGH BREASTFEEDING.

MOREOVER, THESE VULNERABLE YOUTHS MEDICAL BILLS MAY RISE THROUGH THEIR LIFETIMES AS THEY ARE OFTEN TRAPPED WITH A LIFELONG MEDICAL COMPLICATIONS. A LOSING WAR WITH THEIR OWN BODIES AND TRAGICALLY STERILIZATION.

ACCORDINGLY, IT IS THE POLICY OF THE UNITED STATES THAT IT WILL NOT FUND, SPONSOR, PROMOTE, ASSIST OR SUPPORT THE SO-CALLED TRANSITION OF A CHILD FROM ONE SEX TO ANOTHER.

AND IT WILL RIGOROUSLY ENFORCE ALL LAWS THAT PROHIBIT OR LIMIT THESE DESTRUCTIVE AND LIFE ALTERING PROCEDURES.

SECTION EIGHT DIRECTIVES TO THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE.

THE ATTORNEY GENERAL SHALL PRIORITIZE INVESTIGATIONS AND TAKE APPROPRIATE ACTION TO END CHILD ABUSIVE PRACTICES BY SO-CALLED SANCTUARY STATES THAT FACILITATE STRIPPING CUSTODY FROM PARENTS WHO SUPPORT THE HEALTHY DEVELOPMENT OF THEIR OWN CHILDREN, INCLUDING BY CONSIDERING THE APPLICATION OF THE PARENTAL KIDNAPING PREVENTION ACT AND RECOGNIZED CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS. MR. MOORE, I'D LIKE TO REMIND YOU THAT.

EXCUSE ME. ONE OF OUR GUIDELINES THAT I THINK YOU KNOW.

I'M TALKING HERE. NO. YOU'RE DOING WHAT YOU'RE DOING IS YOU'RE READING FROM SOMETHING THAT YOU COULD HAVE GIVEN US A LINK. THE SUPERINTENDENT S CHOOL DISTRICT AND BOARD OF DIRECTORS ARE HEREBY GIVEN VERBAL NOTICE TO IMMEDIATELY STOP SUPPORTING, FUNDING OR REFERRING CHILDREN FOR SUCH DESTRUCTIVE PROCEDURES, OR YOU WILL BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE BY LAW. THANK YOU.

WHAT I WAS TRYING TO TELL YOU IS TO REMIND YOU THAT ONE OF OUR GUIDELINES IS THAT WHEN YOU'RE GOING TO READ SOMETHING DIRECTLY FROM THE INTERNET OR FROM A POST OR SOMETHING ELSE TO PLEASE SEND US THE LINK AND JUST TELL US HOW IT RELATES TO THE WORK THAT WE'RE DOING IN THE DISTRICT.

THAT'S THE POINT. YOU DIDN'T HAVE TO READ THAT TO US.

I CAN READ NEXT IS ELIZABETH LUNSFORD.

ELIZABETH LUNSFORD. 98037. GOOD EVENING, LADIES, EVERYBODY, BECAUSE OUR VERY COMPETENT NEW PRESIDENT TRUMP HAS MADE EXECUTIVE ORDER TO IDENTIFY OUR SEX BY HOW OUR GENDER WHEN WE WERE CONCEIVED. AND FOR ANYONE WHO WENT TO BASIC BIOLOGY KNOWS AT CONCEPTION, WE'RE ALL FEMALE.

WHAT? I KNOW IT'S A COMPLICATED THING. I HAPPEN TO HAVE MY BACHELOR'S DEGREE IN BIOLOGY, BUT EVEN HIGH SCHOOLERS KNOW THIS SIMPLE FACT.

SO IF I SEE YOU GENTLEMEN IN THE BATHROOM, I CAN SAY, HEY, THANK YOU.

IN THE LADIES BATHROOM. THANK YOU, MR. TRUMP, BECAUSE HE IS SO WELL EDUCATED.

GREAT. LOVE IT. I CAME HERE TO SPEAK ABOUT LAST WEEK OR NOT LAST WEEK, LAST COUNCIL.

IT WAS ABOUT THE QUESTION THAT THE YOUTH COUNCIL BROUGHT UP ABOUT SENIOR PROJECTS. AND SINCE THAT TIME, I HAVE LEARNED A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT AT THE SCHOOL DISTRICT BY GOING ON THE ONE TOUR I WENT WITH SOME OF MY NEW BUDDIES OVER HERE AND IT WAS GREAT.

AND ALSO I SAW THE MOST FANTASTIC RENDITION OF SHREK.

THE SUGAR PLUM WAS FANTASTIC. NAILED IT. THERE WAS A PLAY FROM EDMONDS HEIGHTS AND IT WAS PART OF THE THING.

BUT THE ONE THING I DIDN'T LIKE WHEN I HEARD THE ANSWERS.

YOUR GUYS'S ANSWERS TO THESE REMARKABLE STUDENTS ABOUT WHY WE DON'T HAVE SENIOR PROJECTS.

THIS IS WHAT I HEARD. THIS IS WHAT I HEARD. MY DOG ATE MY HOMEWORK.

I CAN'T FIND MY BOOK BAG. OH, I CAN'T FIND MY PENCIL.

THAT'S WHAT I HEARD. I HEARD KIDS FINDING ANY EXCUSE TO NOT DO THEIR HOMEWORK.

AND I UNDERSTAND IT'S VERY, VERY DIFFICULT WITH SO MANY THINGS THAT YOU HAVE TO DO, DEALING WITH, YOU KNOW, THE BIGOTRY IN OUR SCHOOLS AND PEDOPHILES, WHICH, YOU KNOW, WE DO HAVE PEDOPHILES IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD THAT YOU GUYS PROTECT THEM FROM. BUT I WANT TO ASK YOU GUYS BIGGER SCOPE.

[01:00:03]

WHAT IS OUR SCHOOL DOING IN THE TESTING? AND I THINK HOPEFULLY WE CAN REALLY COME TOGETHER AS A COMMUNITY AND SEE WHAT PATHWAYS THESE KIDS ARE GOING TO DO AFTERWARDS AND HOW WE AS A COMMUNITY CAN HELP THEM GO THAT WAY RATHER THAN JUST BE ABOUT TEST.

WE HAVE A WEALTH OF RESOURCES IN OUR COMMUNITY.

WE HAVE A WEALTH OF RESOURCES IN OUR YOUTH AT THE SCHOOL, AND I THINK IT'S TIME TO GET CREATIVE AND STOP MAKING EXCUSES.

AND I KNOW YOU GUYS DON'T GET PAID AND ARE VOLUNTEERS, BUT US, NOT JUST YOU, BUT US AS A COMMUNITY, HAVE TO MAKE SURE EVERY STUDENT HAS A SUCCESSFUL PATHWAY TO WHATEVER THAT MAY BE ONCE THEY GRADUATE THIS DISTRICT.

THANK YOU. NEXT IS CHRISTIE ROBERTSON.

GOOD EVENING. MY NAME IS CHRISTIE ROBERTSON. MOUNTLAKE TERRACE.

I'M A RETIRED PUBLIC SCHOOL TEACHER, PARENT, AND GRANDPARENT.

11 MONTHS AGO, I SPOKE TO THIS BOARD ADVOCATING THAT EDMONDS SCHOOLS WE DESIGNATE FEBRUARY AS BLACK HISTORY MONTH, RATHER THAN ITS DESIGNATION AS BLACK LIVES MATTER MONTH OF ACTION.

I REALIZE THAT AS A PERSON OF EUROPEAN DESCENT, I HAVE LITTLE CREDIBILITY TO ADVOCATE FOR THIS CHANGE.

THAT IS WHY LAST YEAR I SHARED, AND I WILL AGAIN SHARE, THAT I ASKED MY BLACK DAUGHTER IN LAW, THE MOTHER OF MY TWO BIRACIAL GRANDSONS, HER OPINION ON THIS MATTER.

HER NAME IS CHANDICE AND I WILL REPEAT VERBATIM WHAT HER TEXT SAID TO ME LAST YEAR.

CHANDICE STATED, QUOTE, I WOULD PREFER THAT STUDENTS ENGAGE IN THE MORE TRADITIONAL TEACHINGS OF BLACK HISTORY MONTH.

BLACK LIVES MATTER MONTH OF ACTION SEEMS TO BE POLITICALLY MOTIVATED BY RECENT EVENTS.

THAT SAID, I DO SHE SAID, THINK THAT THE EVENTS THAT PROMPTED THE BLACK LIVES MATTER MOVEMENT SHOULD BE DISCUSSED BUT AS A PART OF BLACK HISTORY MONTH, ALONG WITH OTHER STRUGGLES AND TRIUMPHS OF AFRICAN AMERICANS.

I DO NOT AGREE, SHE SAID, WITH EVERYTHING THAT'S BLM RELATED.

BUT THE ORGANIZATION IS PART OF OUR HISTORY. END QUOTE.

A FEW DAYS AFTER I MADE THAT PRESENTATION, I RECEIVED AN EMAIL FROM DIRECTOR KATIMS THANKING ME FOR AT LEAST RAISING THE ISSUE.

SHE INDICATED THAT THE SCHOOL BOARD WOULD DISCUSS THE MATTER.

THE CURRENT EDMONDS SCHOOL WEBSITE SHOWS THAT THE FEBRUARY CONTINUES TO BE DESIGNATED AS BLACK LIVES MATTER MONTH OF ACTION.

DO EDMONDS SCHOOLS DESIGNATE OTHERS MONTHS AS HISPANIC OR ASIAN OR NATIVE AMERICAN MONTH OF ACTION BECAUSE OF THE MAKEUP OF THE BOARD HAS CHANGED SINCE LAST YEAR I ASK THAT THE BOARD RECONSIDER MY SUGGESTION AND FOLLOW THE LEAD OF NEIGHBORING SCHOOL DISTRICTS, WHICH CONTINUE TO DESIGNATE FEBRUARY AS BLACK HISTORY MONTH.

POLITICIZATION OF THE SCHOOL CURRICULUM ON THIS ISSUE AND OTHER MATTERS IS ONE REASON WHY FAMILIES LEAVE THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

AT A RECENT SCHOOL BOARD MEETING, ENROLLMENT CONCERNS WERE RAISED ALONG WITH THE DEMOGRAPHIC REALITY THAT LOWER BIRTH RATES WILL FURTHER COMPLICATE FUTURE ENROLLMENT ISSUES. IN ORDER TO ATTRACT FAMILIES AND DRAW FAMILIES BACK TO THE EDMONDS SCHOOL DISTRICT, REDESIGNATING FEBRUARY AS BLACK HISTORY MONTH COULD BE A CONSTRUCTIVE STEP FORWARD.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU. NEXT IS DERICA ESCAMILLA.

IS IT ON? HELLO. GOOD EVENING EVERYBODY. DERICA ESCAMILLA.

98036. I AM A PARENT IN THE EDMONDS SCHOOL DISTRICT AND ALSO HAPPEN TO BE ON COUNCIL.

I'M HAPPY TO BE HERE. AND I'M HONESTLY A LITTLE, A LITTLE JEALOUS OF YOUR JOBS.

YOU GUYS GET SPRINKLED WITH LOVE AND POSITIVITY SOMETIMES, ALONG WITH THE VERY DIFFICULT DECISIONS.

[LAUGHTER] AND I FEEL LIKE AT CITY COUNCIL WE DON'T REALLY GET ANY OF THAT HARDLY EVER.

SO I REALLY JUST COMMEND I KNOW YOU GUYS, OUR JOBS ARE VERY DIFFERENT AND BOTH DIFFICULT IN THEIR OWN WAYS, AND I RESPECT WHAT YOU GUYS DO. I ALWAYS HAVE.

I WANTED THE LAST TIME I CAME UP HERE, YOU GUYS HAD JUST FORMED THAT TASK GROUP FOR THE GRADING.

[01:05:01]

AND SO IT'S REALLY NICE TO COME UP HERE AND NOT ONLY HEAR AND SEE THAT IT CAME TO LIFE.

A LOT OF TIMES, I THINK THAT WE WANT TO DO SO MUCH AND WE HAVE TO MAKE DECISIONS AND WE HAVE TO PRIORITIZE, AND IMPORTANT MATTERS HAVE TO GET SAVED UNTIL NEXT TIME OR NEXT AGENDA OR NEXT YEAR.

AND SO IT'S ALWAYS GOOD TO BE FOLLOWING SOMETHING AND COME BACK AND HEAR THE FOLLOW UP AND THAT YOU'RE DOING IT AND THAT IT'S MATTERING.

AND THEN I ALSO HAVE AN UPDATE FOR YOU. SO THE LAST TIME I CAME, I HAD A DREAM OF A YOUTH BOARD.

I THINK I HAD SOMEHOW MIRACULOUSLY SECURED $10,000 FOR IT, BUT I DIDN'T HAVE PERMISSION FOR IT YET.

I PRESENTED IT TO THE CITY COUNCIL IN DECEMBER, AND WE WERE NOT ABLE TO MAKE IT AN OFFICIAL BOARD AND COMMISSION LIKE THE OTHERS, BUT WE WERE ABLE TO MAKE IT A COUNCIL PROJECT.

IT HAS BEEN APPROVED. WE GOT THE GREEN LIGHT.

WE GOT THE MONEY AND NEW COUNCIL LEADERSHIP IS IN PLACE AND READY TO GO.

SO I'M HERE TO TELL YOU GUYS THAT WE'VE GOT IT GOING.

IT'S GOOD. WE'RE GOING TO BE WE'RE LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS TO FINALIZE OUR WORK GROUP, AT LEAST A COUPLE MORE STUDENTS, MAYBE TWO COMMUNITY MEMBERS AND A COUPLE OF STAKEHOLDERS THAT WE WISH TO BE A PART OF THE ACTUAL YOUTH ADVISORY BOARD, BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW IF YOU GUYS REMEMBER TELLING YOU WE'RE GOING TO HAVE ADULTS BE A PART OF IT, TOO.

SO I'M JUST REALLY PROUD AGAIN TO HEAR THE STUDENTS, YOUR QUESTIONS ARE AMAZING LIKE YOU ARE JUST WHAT YOU GUYS HAVE DONE UP HERE WITH THE STUDENTS AND THEIR FEEDBACK IS THE REASON WHY I FEEL LIKE WE NEED THIS AND I WANT TO KEEP TALKING TO YOU GUYS.

I WANT TO BE OUT THERE. AND ONE LAST QUICK THING.

I JUST WANT TO THROW OUT THERE AND CONSIDER ON THE EQUITY.

I KNOW WE HAD A LOT. EVERYBODY HAS BUDGET ISSUES FROM OLYMPIA DOWN TO SCHOOLS AND WHATNOT, BUT I WAS REALLY SAD TO GO TO SOME BASKETBALL GAMES THIS YEAR AND SEE ONE OF OUR HIGH SCHOOLS NOT HAVE ANY SENIOR POSTERS UP.

AND I JUST WONDER IF IT WAS THE DEMOGRAPHIC OF THE SENIORS AND WHAT HAPPENED, BECAUSE EVERY OTHER SCHOOL I'VE GONE TO HAS THEIR SENIOR POSTERS UP.

THEY EARN THIS, YOU KNOW, AND IF IT'S ON THE PARENTS AND THEY CAN'T AFFORD IT, I WANT TO KNOW WHY.

SO THANK YOU, THANK YOU. I JUST REALLY QUICKLY WANTED TO SAY THANK YOU SO MUCH.

W E DON'T SEE ENOUGH INTERGOVERNMENTAL COOPERATION.

SO THE FACT THAT YOU'RE COMING FROM ANOTHER GOVERNMENTAL BOARD AND TELLING US HOW WE CAN BE HELPFUL TO YOU IS VERY MUCH APPRECIATED.

SO THANK YOU SO MUCH. I PLAN TO BE HERE THANK YOU. AND I'D LIKE TO JUST ASK YOU IF YOU COULD SEND INFORMATION TO DOCTOR MINOR ABOUT THAT YOUTH COUNCIL, SO WE COULD HELP YOU GET VOLUNTEERS FOR IT.

PERFECT. GOT THE GREEN LIGHT TO GO. OKAY. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

I WANT YOU GUYS, AS YOU HAVE ALREADY STARTED SOMETHING THAT I WANT TO DEFINITELY PICK YOUR BRAINS AND COORDINATE AND COLLABORATE WITH.

WE'D LOVE TO PARTNER WITH YOU. OKAY. SO, DERICA, I'M JUST GOING TO SPRINKLE A LITTLE LOVE YOUR DIRECTION. [LAUGHTER] NEXT IS SARAH DILLING. I THOUGHT I MIGHT COME BACK TODAY. SO I JUST WANTED TO SAY A COUPLE OF THINGS.

FIRST, I KNOW WHEN MY KIDS WENT TO MIDDLE SCHOOL, IT WAS LIKE THEY JUST JUMPED OFF A DIVING BOARD INTO THE DEEP END WITH THE SIX DIFFERENT TEACHERS AND THE EXPECTATIONS AND THE DEADLINES AND QUITE FRANKLY, OR SEVENTH GRADE, IT WAS.

SO MY KID ACTUALLY FAILED A MAJOR PROJECT IN A IN A CLASS THAT HAD NO OTHER MAJOR PROJECTS THAT SEMESTER.

AND I SAID, YOU HAVE LEARNED THIS LESSON SO CHEAPLY.

WE DIDN'T HAVE TO PAY COLLEGE TUITION THIS TERM FOR YOU TO LEARN THIS LESSON.

SO I'M KIND OF SIX OF ONE, HALF A DOZEN OF THE OTHER ON THE WHOLE HOW MIDDLE SCHOOL SHOULD BE.

SHOULD IT BE LIKE THE REAL WORLD? BUT IT'S SORT OF A FREE FAIL OR SHOULD IT BE MUCH MORE GENTLE AND LESS TRAUMATIC FOR THE KIDS TO LEARN THAT PAINFUL LESSON OF I HAVE TO MANAGE MY TIME, AND I'M A GROWN UP NOW.

OH, NO. ANYWAY ALSO MY KIDS WERE APPARENTLY IN THE 41% OF THE SBA AND GETTING GOOD GRADES IN MATH. AND MY SENIOR IN HIGH SCHOOL.

SORRY, I'M SARAH DILLING FROM MOUNTLAKE TERRACE. I HAVE A SENIOR IN HIGH SCHOOL. HAS GOTTEN INTO MOST OF THE COLLEGES THAT THAT THEY APPLIED TO AND IS CURRENTLY WORKING ON A DECISION WHICH IS WEIGHED DOWN BY THE FACT THAT TRAVELING ACROSS THE COUNTRY MIGHT BE HARMFUL TO THEIR HEALTH.

AND SO THOSE ARE THE CHALLENGES THEY'RE LOOKING AT RATHER THAN ACADEMIC ONES.

SO I WANTED TO THANK THE SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR PREPARING MY CHILD ACADEMICALLY. AND I THINK THOUGHTS THAT I WILL NOT REPEAT HERE ABOUT THE REST OF THE WORLD

[01:10:10]

SOMETIMES. I THINK THAT ABOUT SUMS IT UP, BUT I'M BACK.

NEXT ON THE AGENDA IS OUR CONSENT AGENDA TONIGHT WE HAVE 18 ITEMS.

[11. CONSENT AGENDA-7:40 pm]

ONE IS OUR PERSONNEL ACTIONS. TWO ARE INTERLOCAL AGREEMENTS WITH LOCAL COLLEGES.

TWO OF THEM HAVE TO DO WITH MONTHLY BILLS AND VOUCHERS.

AND WE HAVE 13 FIELD TRIPS. DO I HEAR A MOTION AND A SECOND TO APPROVE TONIGHT'S CONSENT AGENDA AS PRESENTED.

SO MOVED. SECOND. I'VE HEARD A MOTION TO APPROVE.

AND A SECOND. IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION? HEARING NONE.

I'LL CALL FOR A VOTE. ALL THOSE IN FAVOR OF APPROVING TONIGHT'S CONSENT AGENDA AS APPROVED, PLEASE INDICATE BY SAYING AYE. AYE. ALL THOSE OPPOSED SAY NAY.

ANY ABSTENTIONS? AND TONIGHT'S CONSENT AGENDA IS APPROVED AS PRESENTED.

THANK YOU. WE HAVE ONE REPORT AND PRESENTATION THIS EVENING.

[12. REPORTS-7:50 pm]

THAT IS THE BUSINESS AND FINANCE REPORT FOR NOVEMBER.

WELCOMING LYDIA SELLIE, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF BUSINESS AND FINANCE.

GOOD EVENING. WE ARE STARTING TO GET A LITTLE BIT CAUGHT UP ON THE MONTH SO THAT YOU DON'T HAVE TO SEE ME EVERY SINGLE TIME.

WE ARE ON NOVEMBER AND SO THAT MEANS THAT ONE QUARTER OF THE YEAR HAS GONE BY AS OF NOVEMBER 30TH, AND REVENUES AND EXPENDITURES ARE TRACKING APPROPRIATELY FOR EACH FUND.

ON THIS WORKSHEET, I NOTICED THAT TAX COLLECTIONS ARE SLIGHTLY LOWER THAN LAST YEAR.

WE HAVE TO MAKE A PREDICTION ON WHAT PERCENTAGE OF PEOPLE ARE GOING TO PAY ALL AT ONCE IN APRIL, OR OVER TWO PAYMENTS BETWEEN APRIL AND NOVEMBER.

SOMETIMES IT'S SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT THAN WE PROJECT, BUT THERE IS A SURETY IN TAX COLLECTIONS IN THE LONG RUN, SO I'M NOT WORRIED ABOUT THAT. THIS SLIDE AGAIN, I'M STARTING TO PERHAPS BLOW SOME UP IN DIFFERENT WAYS. SO THEY'RE A LITTLE BIT MORE LEGIBLE.

AND WE SHOULD EXPECT TO SEE INCREASES THIS YEAR OVER LAST YEAR, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE ESSER FEDERAL FUNDS, WHICH ARE NOW ALL CONSUMED LAST YEAR. ON THIS SLIDE, WE NOTICED THAT EXPENDITURES THAT INCLUDES NOT ONLY YEAR TO DATE, BUT WHAT WE PLAN ON SPENDING THROUGH THE END OF THE YEAR ARE AT 24.13%. WE'RE AT 25% THROUGH THE YEAR THAT IS JUST A GOOD GAUGE TO SEE IF WE WOULD NEED TO COME BACK TO YOU FOR PERMISSION TO SPEND ADDITIONAL FUNDS.

BUT LIKE RIGHT NOW, IT DOES NOT APPEAR THAT WE WOULD NEED TO DO THAT.

AND THAT IS CALLED A BUDGET EXTENSION, WHICH IS A FUNNY WORD FOR MORE BUDGET AUTHORITY.

THIS TREND LINE LOOKS ALMOST IDENTICAL TO OCTOBER.

SO VERY CONSISTENT STABLE. I DID NOT SEE ANY CHANGES THAT NEEDED TO BE REPORTED ON.

ENROLLMENT. AGAIN ENROLLMENT NOVEMBER IS GOOD.

WE SEE THE LARGEST ATTRITION IN THE SPRING AT THE HIGHER GRADES AND SOME STABILITY.

USUALLY K THROUGH TEN IS PRETTY STABLE. I DID SEE A LITTLE BIT OF A DIP UPCOMING IN DECEMBER.

THAT WAS A LITTLE BIT MORE OF A DIP THAN THE PREVIOUS YEAR.

AND WE WILL JUST CONTINUE TO MONITOR. AND THAT IS IT FOR NOVEMBER.

THANK YOU SO MUCH. IT'S NICE TO SEE STABILITY, EVEN IF IT'S NOT AS HIGH AS WE WOULD LIKE IT TO BE.

BUT THERE'S STABILITY. QUESTIONS? COMMENTS? I THINK WE'RE GOOD.

THANK YOU. WE HAVE THREE ITEMS OF UNFINISHED BUSINESS TONIGHT.

[13. UNFINISHED BUSINESS- 8:00 pm]

THE FIRST IS ITEM 13.1, A SECOND READING TO APPROVE BOARD POLICY.

EXCUSE ME REVISE BOARD POLICY 3131. DO I HAVE A MOTION AND A SECOND TO APPROVE REVISED BOARD POLICY? 3131 ON TRANSFERS. I MOVE TO APPROVE. I'LL SECOND.

I'VE HEARD A MOTION TO APPROVE. AND A SECOND. IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION?

[01:15:03]

THERE HAVE BEEN NO CHANGES SINCE THE FIRST READ.

OKAY. I'LL CALL FOR A VOTE. EVERYBODY IN FAVOR OF APPROVING TONIGHT'S THE REVISED BOARD POLICY 3131 ON TRANSFERS, PLEASE INDICATE BY SAYING AYE. AYE. ALL THOSE OPPOSED SAY NAY.

ANY ABSTENTIONS? AND REVISED BOARD POLICY 3131 ON TRANSFERS IS APPROVED.

THE NEXT ITEM IS 13.2 A SECOND READING TO APPROVE BOARD POLICY 3140.

DO I HEAR A MOTION TO APPROVE AN A SECOND FOR REVISED BOARD POLICY? 3140 ON THE RELEASE OF RESIDENT STUDENTS. SO MOVED.

SECOND, I'VE HEARD A MOTION TO APPROVE. AND A SECOND, IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION? AGAIN, THERE'S BEEN NO CHANGES SINCE THE LAST ONE.

HEARING NO DISCUSSION, I'LL CALL FOR A VOTE. ALL THOSE IN FAVOR OF APPROVING THE REVISED BOARD POLICY 3140 THE RELEASE OF RESIDENT STUDENTS, PLEASE INDICATE BY SAYING AYE. AYE. ALL THOSE OPPOSED SAY NAY.

ANY ABSTENTIONS? AND REVISE BOARD POLICY 3140 THE RELEASE OF RESIDENT STUDENTS IS APPROVED.

FINAL ITEM OF UNFINISHED BUSINESS IS 13.3 A SECOND READING TO APPROVE REVISED BOARD POLICY.

3141. DO I HAVE A MOTION TO APPROVE AND A SECOND MOVE TO APPROVE? SECOND. I'VE HEARD A MOTION TO APPROVE, AND A SECOND. IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION? HEARING NONE. I'LL CALL FOR A VOTE. ALL THOSE IN FAVOR OF APPROVING REVISED BOARD POLICY 3141 ON NONRESIDENT STUDENTS, PLEASE INDICATE BY SAYING AYE. AYE. ALL THOSE OPPOSED SAY NAY, ANY ABSTENTIONS AND REVISE BOARD POLICY 3141 ON NONRESIDENT STUDENTS IS APPROVED. NEXT, WE MOVE TO NEW BUSINESS. THE FIRST ITEM.

[14. NEW BUSINESS- 8:10 pm]

GIVEN THE CHANGE IN THE AGENDA IS 14.2, A SINGLE READING FOR AUTHORIZATION FOR ARCHITECTURAL SELECTION FOR THE NEW MIDDLE SCHOOL PROJECT.

YES. DO I HEAR A MOTION AND A SECOND TO APPROVE? SO MOVED. SECOND. IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION? I WOULD LIKE TO THANK OUR VOTERS.

THIS IS BEING FUNDED THROUGH THE 2024 BOND, AND IT'S EXCITING TO SEE HOW ALL THE WORK IS UNFOLDING THANKS TO THE COMMUNITY SUPPORT. SO I JUST REALLY WANT TO PUT A SHOUT OUT THAT THAT'S HOW WE'RE ABLE TO CONTINUE THE WORK ON OUR FACILITIES.

ANY OTHER COMMENTS? HEARING NONE. I'LL CALL FOR A VOTE.

ALL THOSE IN FAVOR OF THE AUTHORIZATION FOR ARCHITECTURE, SELECTION AND AGREEMENT WITH THE MAHLUM ARCHITECTURE FOR THE NEW MIDDLE SCHOOL PROJECT. PLEASE INDICATE BY SAYING AYE. AYE. ALL THOSE OPPOSED SAY NAY.

ANY ABSTENTIONS? AND THE AUTHORIZATION FOR ARCHITECTURE SELECTION AN AGREEMENT WITH MAHLUM ARCHITECTURE FOR THE NEW MIDDLE SCHOOL PROJECT IS APPROVED. ITEM 14.3 IS A FIRST READING. NO ACTION OF RESOLUTION 2504.

IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION ON RESOLUTION 2504, WHICH IS AUTHORIZATION TO INCREASE THE BALANCE OF THE WORKERS COMPENSATION REVOLVING FUND IMPREST ACCOUNT? I'D JUST APPRECIATE SOME EXPLANATION.

I DON'T KNOW WHAT THAT IS.

I'LL START WHILE LYDIA IS COMING FORWARD. BUT ESSENTIALLY CLAIMS HAVE INCREASED IN BOTH FREQUENCY IN VALUE.

AND SO WE'RE ASKING FOR AN INCREASE IN THE AMOUNT THAT WE CAN HOLD IN ORDER TO MANAGE THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE PROGRAM.

BUT I'LL TURN IT OVER TO LYDIA FOR MORE DETAILS.

THANK YOU. WE CONTRACT WITH THE THIRD PARTY ADMINISTRATOR, EBERLE VIVIAN, TO PROCESS OUR WORKER'S COMPENSATION CLAIMS. SO WE LONG AGO SET UP AN ACCOUNT, WHICH IS BASICALLY A CHECKING ACCOUNT, SO THAT EBERLE VIVIAN WRITES CHECKS TO CLAIMANTS, AND THEN TWICE A WEEK WE REPLENISH THAT, IMPREST ACCOUNT SO THAT EBERLE VIVIAN CAN KEEP ACCESSING IT TO PAY CLAIMS ON OUR BEHALF. UNFORTUNATELY, SINCE WE ONLY REIMBURSE TWICE A MONTH THE CURRENT BALANCE ISN'T ENOUGH TO GET US UNTIL THE NEXT REIMBURSEMENT PERIOD, SO THAT'S WHY WE'RE ASKING FOR AN INCREASE.

AND AGAIN, AS DOCTOR MINER STATED, IT'S AN INCREASE IN NUMBER OF CLAIMS AS WELL AS SEVERITY OF CLAIMS. SO THIS WOULD JUST INCREASE IT ONCE AND THEN THE OTHER, THE NORMAL AMOUNT WOULD SUSTAIN US AFTER THAT LIKE WE JUST FALLEN BEHIND ON THE BALANCE.

OR IS THIS ARE WE TALKING ABOUT INCREASING IT EVERY MONTH.

IT'S A ONE TIME INCREASE TO THE ACCOUNT THAT EBERLE VIVIAN USES WHICH WE THEN REPLENISH.

SO THEY HAVE ACCESS TO IT? YES. THANK YOU. I UNDERSTAND.

[01:20:03]

OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS? HEARING NONE. WE'LL BRING THAT BACK TO YOU FOR THE NEXT MEETING.

THE NEXT ITEM IS ITEM 14.4, A FIRST READING. NO ACTION REVISED BOARD POLICY 2413.

IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION ON REVISED BOARD POLICY 2413 WHICH IS ON EQUIVALENCY CREDIT OPPORTUNITIES? I HAVE TWO QUESTIONS. THEY'RE RELATIVELY MINOR.

SO AT THE VERY BEGINNING OF THIS DRAFT, IT SAYS PRIOR TO COURSE SCHEDULING OR COURSE REGISTRATION FOR THEIR NEXT SCHOOL TERM WITHOUT TELLING US WHO, THEY, ARE, THE DISTRICT WILL PROVIDE INFORMATION TO STUDENTS AND THEIR PARENTS OR LEGAL GUARDIANS. ARE THESE GRADE 7 TO 12? ARE THEY GRADES? ARE THEY HIGH SCHOOL OR MIDDLE SCHOOL? I JUST WASN'T QUITE SURE.

IS IT K-12 BECAUSE IT TALKS ABOUT K-12? IT'S REFERRING TO HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS.

IT'S WHAT? REFERRING TO HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS. JUST HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS. I WOULD APPRECIATE THAT BEING CLARIFIED IN IN THE PHRASING HERE.

SO IT'S BECAUSE IT'S NOT CLEAR. AND SO THAT PIECE.

BUT THERE ARE THINGS HERE FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS TO BE ABLE TO GET EQUIVALENT CREDIT.

I MEAN, THERE'S DISCUSSION AND REFERENCE TO MIDDLE SCHOOL AS WELL, IF I RECALL.

LIKE COMPUTER SCIENCE. AM I CORRECT OR DID I MAKE THAT UP? YEAH. EXCUSE ME. I'M SORRY. YEAH. THE EQUIVALENCY CREDIT WOULD BE AVAILABLE, AND IT'S SAYING THAT WE WOULD REPORT TO STUDENTS AND FAMILIES PRIOR TO THEM ENROLLING IN THE EQUIVALENT COURSES, AND THAT WOULD INCLUDE MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS.

IS THAT TRUE? FOR CREDIT BEARING CLASSES? I SUPPOSE IT WOULD.

SO, YES, I CAN CLARIFY THAT IN AN UPDATED DRAFT.

OKAY. BECAUSE I KNOW THAT ONE OF MY KIDS, WHEN HE WAS ACTUALLY BOTH MY KIDS WHEN THEY WERE IN MIDDLE SCHOOL, DID TAKE COURSES FOR HIGH SCHOOL CREDIT. RIGHT.

IT'S FAIR. YES. AND IN ONE CASE, LIKE IN TERMS OF THIS EXPERIENTIAL EDUCATION OPPORTUNITY, THERE WAS A PROCESS FOR ONE OF MY STUDENTS WHO WAS TAKING SOMETHING THROUGH THE UNIVERSITY TO GET CREDIT, EVEN THOUGH I THINK HE WAS MIDDLE SCHOOL. ANYWAY, I JUST WANTED TO BE REALLY CLEAR WHAT STUDENTS WE'RE TALKING ABOUT HERE.

ABSOLUTELY. I'LL UPDATE THAT. OKAY. THE OTHER IS REALLY JUST A QUESTION THAT MIGHT BE A TYPO, BUT IT MIGHT ACTUALLY BE TRUE. I DON'T KNOW. UNDER MASTERY BASED CREDITS THERE ARE TWO BULLETS IN THE FIRST PARAGRAPH UNDER THERE IT SAYS AP COMPUTER SCIENCE A EXAM. SHOULD IT BE AP EXAM OR IS IT REALLY? IS THERE AN EXAM CALLED A EXAM? THERE'S AN A.

THERE IS AN A LIKE CALCULUS A, B, AND C OKAY.

SO THEN THAT'S NOT A PROBLEM. JUST JUST CLARIFYING.

OKAY. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. ANYTHING ELSE? OKAY, SO MOVING ON.

WE'LL BRING THAT FORWARD TO YOU FOR AND WITH WE'LL BRING THAT FORWARD TO WITH FOR OUR SECOND READING WITH ANY CHANGES NOTED.

THE NEXT ITEM IS 14.5. FIRST READING, NO ACTION AND REVISE BOARD POLICY 2190.

SO IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION ON REVISED BOARD POLICY 2190 HIGHLY CAPABLE PROGRAMS? OKAY, IT'LL COME BACK PAST YOU. 14.6 FIRST READING, NO ACTION.

REVISED BOARD POLICY. 3246. OKAY, SO IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION ON REVISED BOARD POLICY 3246 ON RESTRAINT, ISOLATION, AND OTHER USES OF REASONABLE FORCE? YEAH, I JUST WANT TO POINT THIS OUT, BECAUSE IF I WAS SOMEONE WHO WAS JUST LOOKING AT THE AGENDA AND DIDN'T BOTHER LOOKING INTO IT, I WOULD THIS WOULD BE THE ONE THAT JUMPED OUT AT ME. SO I JUST WANT TO GET IT ON THE RECORD.

THIS DOESN'T HAVE ANY SUBSTANTIVE CHANGES. AS FAR AS I COULD TELL. IT LOOKS LIKE THIS IS MAINLY A FORMATTING CHANGE TO THE CURRENT POLICY. LIKE I SAW A SEMICOLON DELETED.

AND LIKE ONE OTHER THING. SO I JUST WANTED TO MAKE SURE I WASN'T MISSING SOMETHING. AND THAT'S CORRECT.

AND WE CAN TELL THE BACKGROUND, LEGAL BACKGROUND THAT FALLS TO THIS AS WELL.

OKAY GREAT. AWESOME. THANK YOU. ANYTHING ELSE? OKAY. SO NEXT WE HAVE THE LEGISLATIVE UPDATE.

[15. LEGISLATIVE UPDATES]

AND DIRECTOR CHASE WASN'T ABLE TO BE HERE. BUT DOCTOR MINER IS GOING TO TAKE THE LEAD, AND WE MIGHT[INAUDIBLE].

YEAH, WE CAN TAG TEAM A LITTLE BIT. THE FIRST TWO SLIDES SHOULD LOOK VERY FAMILIAR TO YOU.

[01:25:04]

JUST KIND OF TALKS ABOUT WHAT WE DO AND HOW WE ENGAGE IN THE LEGISLATIVE PROCESS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.

SO IF WE MOVE ON TO THE THIRD SLIDE, YOU WILL SEE THIS IS KIND OF GOING TO BE WE'RE KIND OF INITIATING THIS THIS YEAR.

THIS IS WHERE IS WHERE THE MEAT OF WHAT YOU'RE GOING TO SEE AND WHAT WE'RE WATCHING AND WHAT WE'RE TRACKING IS GOING TO BE.

WE HAVE THESE IN A NEW, SEPARATE PLACE ON OUR WEBSITE.

SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO GO INTO THE BOARD DOCS TO FIND IT.

YOU CAN FIND IT RIGHT THERE UNDER OUR LEGISLATIVE UPDATE.

SO THE LEGISLATIVE SESSION BEGAN ON THE 13TH.

THINGS ARE MOVING VERY QUICKLY, AS THEY ALWAYS DO IN THE LEGISLATURE.

SO REALLY THIS TIME WE'VE JUST KIND OF GIVEN EVERYONE RESOURCES.

SO THESE ARE ALL LIVE LINKS. IF YOU GO TO OUR WEBSITE AND YOU CLICK ON THIS PRESENTATION, THESE ARE LIVE LINKS.

YOU CAN TRACK UPCOMING HEARINGS. YOU CAN REGISTER TO SPEAK AT THOSE HEARINGS.

YOU CAN SIGN IN PRO OR CON ANYTHING YOU'D LIKE TO DO THERE.

AND THEN SPECIFICALLY BROKEN OUT BILLS REGARDING SCHOOLS AND SCHOOL DISTRICTS.

AND THEN WSSDA THAT'S AS A REMINDER, THE WASHINGTON STATE SCHOOL DIRECTORS ASSOCIATION, THE ASSOCIATION THAT ALL OF OUR BOARD MEMBERS BELONG TO, THAT'S THEIR BILL TRACKER. YOU CAN ALSO SEE HERE REALLY KIND OF WHAT FORMS THE FOUNDATION FOR THE LEGISLATIVE SESSION THIS TIME.

GOVERNOR. FORMER GOVERNOR INSLEE'S OPERATING BUDGET PROPOSAL.

THEN GOVERNOR FERGUSON'S 2025 TO 2027 PROJECT PRIORITIES.

AND SUPERINTENDENT CHRIS PAUL'S LETTER TO THE GOVERNOR IN WHICH HE SAID, NO MATTER HOW YOU LOOK AT THE NUMBERS, WASHINGTON CURRENTLY UNDERFUNDS K-12 EDUCATION BY AROUND $4 BILLION PER YEAR.

SO REALLY, I'M LOOKING AT THAT WE'RE LOOKING AT THAT AS THE FOUNDATION UPON WHICH ON THIS LEGISLATIVE SESSION WILL OCCUR.

SO IF YOU GO TO THE NEXT SLIDE, THESE ARE JUST AS A REMINDER, OUR ADMIN SCHOOL DISTRICT 2025 PRIORITIES, WHICH WERE APPROVED BY THE BOARD. AND THEN THE WWSSDA 2025 LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES AND POSITIONS, THE BIG THREE BEING TRANSPORTATION, SPECIAL EDUCATION, FUNDING AND MATERIALS, SUPPLIES, AND OPERATING COSTS THAT INCLUDES THINGS LIKE OUR INSURANCE, OUR HEATING, ALL OF THOSE THINGS. AND THE NEXT SLIDE JUST A REMINDER ON HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PROCESS AND YOU CAN KEEP GOING. OUR LEGISLATORS REPRESENTING THOSE WHO LIVE WITHIN OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT.

BUT IF YOU LIVE OUTSIDE OF THE SCHOOL DISTRICT, ON THE NEXT SLIDE, YOU CAN FIND OUT WHO REPRESENTS YOU.

SO JUST TO JUST TO ADD A LITTLE BIT IN THE PARTICIPATING IN THE PROCESS, THESE BILLS ARE NOW GOING STARTING TO GO THROUGH COMMITTEES. SO THE IMPORTANT COMMITTEES TO US ARE APPROPRIATE.

I DON'T KNOW ON THE SENATE SIDE OR THE HOUSE SIDE.

ONE IS CALLED APPROPRIATIONS AND ONE IS CALLED WAYS AND MEANS.

BUT THE MONEY, THAT'S A VERY IMPORTANT COMMITTEE.

THE SECOND COMMITTEE FOR US, AGAIN, THERE ARE DIFFERENT NAMES, BUT FOR IT'S CALLED EARLY LEARNING.

EARLY LEARNING AND K-12 OR SOMETHING ON THE SENATE SIDE AND THEN SOME SIMILAR EARLY EDUCATION COMMITTEE. SO RIGHT NOW, WHAT'S IMPORTANT IS FOR US TO BE TRACKING WHAT BILLS.

AND I THINK THE ONES THAT SEEM LIKE THEY'RE GETTING THE MOST TRACTION.

SO WE SHOULD REALLY PUSH THEM BECAUSE IT WOULD HELP US A LOT.

SPECIAL ED TRANSPORTATION, WHICH HELPS US A LITTLE NOT A LOT.

AND THEN THE MSOCKS, WHICH IS THE UTILITIES AND INSURANCE AND THOSE THOSE ARE LIKE THE BIG THREE THAT SEEM TO BE AGREED UPON BY THE MAJOR ORGANIZATIONS. NOT ONLY WSSDA WA WASA A BIG STUDY AT UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON ABOUT IT.

SO JUST EVERYBODY WHO WANTS TO BE ADVOCATING SHOULD BE PAYING ATTENTION.

AND WHEN YOU IT'S A VERY EASY WEBSITE. IT'S EVEN EASIER THAN IT WAS LAST YEAR.

TO GO ON AND LOOK AT WHAT'S HAPPENING IN EACH COMMITTEE.

AND THEN IN THE 24 HOURS BEFORE A BILL IS GOING TO BE DISCUSSED IN THAT COMMITTEE, TO BE ABLE TO SAY YOU'RE PRO OR CON, YOU CAN LEAVE A COMMENT, A WRITTEN COMMENT ALONG WITH THAT, OR YOU CAN AND YOU COULD ALSO DO VIRTUAL TESTIMONY.

VIRTUAL THAT'S A LITTLE BIT MORE TIME CONSUMING BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO KIND OF HANG OUT ALL DAY TO SEE WHEN THE BILL IS GOING TO COME UP.

BUT IT'S PRETTY SIMPLE AND EASY TO JUST SAY I'M PRO OR CON ON A CERTAIN BILL, AND TO LEAVE A COMMENT IF YOU WANT TO, AS TO WHY IT'S IMPORTANT OR THE IMPACT OR WHATEVER.

SO I THINK IN TERMS OF NOW IN THE PROCESS, THIS IS WHAT WE NEED TO BE PAYING ATTENTION TO IS WHAT'S GOING ON.

BECAUSE IF IT DOESN'T GET OUT OF ANY ONE OF THOSE COMMITTEES, IT'S DEAD.

[01:30:03]

SO IT HAS TO GET OUT. THE OTHER THING IS, WHAT HAPPENS IN THOSE COMMITTEES IS LIKE, WHAT WE SAW LAST YEAR IS THERE'D BE A REALLY GOOD AND THEN IT WOULD BE CUT, YOU KNOW, IN A WAY, OR, OR WHATEVER CHANGED IN A WAY THAT HAD MUCH LESS IMPACT.

SO STAYING ON TOP OF THAT IS SOMETHING THAT I THINK, YOU KNOW, EVERYBODY WHO'S INTERESTED IN ADVOCATING NEEDS TO PAY ATTENTION TO.

AND I ENCOURAGE ANYBODY GO AND POKE AROUND ON THESE WEBSITES THEY'RE REALLY CLEAR.

THERE'S A LITTLE LIKE GRAPH THAT SHOWS YOU ON A DOT WHERE SOMETHING IS IS IT IN COMMITTEE? IS IT GOING INTO HEARING, YOU KNOW, AND IT'S JUST IT'S FUN TO POKE AROUND.

YOU CAN CHOOSE ANY BILL, SEE WHERE IT IS, SEE HOW YOU CAN WEIGH IN.

IT'S VERY, VERY USER FRIENDLY TO YOUR POINT. DO YOU GUYS HAVE ANY QUESTIONS? OUR STUDENTS OR. JUST POINT OUT THAT WE ALSO NEED TO TRACK OTHER BILLS THAT MIGHT BE GETTING LEGS THAT WOULD CAUSE THAT ARE UNFUNDED MANDATES? YES. THANK YOU. THAT WOULD CAUSE US TO HAVE TO SPEND MONEY ON SOMETHING WITHOUT PROVIDING ANY FUNDS TO FUNDS TO DO THAT.

WE'RE ALREADY IN SUCH A TIGHT BUDGET SITUATION, WE JUST CAN'T LET THAT HAPPEN.

SO WE HAD TALKED ABOUT MAYBE GOING TO SPEND A DAY IN OLYMPIA, BUT THANKS TO ERIN AND REALLY, I KNOW IT WAS A LOT OF TIME AND EFFORT ON YOUR PART TRYING TO MAKE IT POSSIBLE FOR US TO.

AND WE WANTED TO MEET WITH OUR LEGISLATORS, NOT WITH THEIR ASSISTANCE OR WHATEVER IT WAS LIKE TO MAKE THAT TRIP GET TEN MINUTES AT MOST WITH TWO ON THE ONE DAY. I MEAN, IT WAS JUST SO THANKS TO ERIN, WE'RE SETTING UP SOME ZOOM MEETINGS WITH THEM, WHICH WILL BE EASIER RIGHT TOO FOR THEM AND FOR US.

BECAUSE ONE OF THE THINGS, AS WE'VE TALKED TO THE LEGISLATORS, WHEN WE TALKED TO THEM AT THE TOWN HALL AND IN OTHER PLACES, IS THEY WANT TO KEEP HEARING FROM US. THEY WANT TO KNOW WITH THE BILLS, WHAT THE IMPACT IS ON ON OUR DISTRICT WHAT MATTERS MOST TO US? SO THERE WILL BE A GROUP OF US WHO WILL CONTINUE TO TOUCH BASE ONE ON ONE WITH THEM THROUGH THE PROCESS TO THE EXTENT THAT THEY CAN HELP.

JUST TO BE REALLY CLEAR, FOR THOSE LISTENING AT HOME, IT WON'T BE MORE THAN TWO BOARD MEMBERS. SO THIS IS NOT A SCHOOL BOARD MEETING. IT WILL BE JUST OUR PRESIDENT AND VICE PRESIDENT. AND THEN ERIN IS WORKING ON SENDING OUT AN INVITATION TO OUR STUDENTS WHO CAN JOIN US.

BUT AS THEY ARE NOT ELECTED MEMBERS OF THE BOARD , IT DOESN'T PUT US INTO A QUORUM.

RIGHT. AND I THINK WE ALSO INCLUDE THE PRESIDENT, ANDI NOFZIGER TO REPRESENT THE CERTIFICATED STAFF.

SO ANYTHING ELSE? THAT'S OUR LEGISLATIVE UPDATE.

OKAY. NEXT WE HAVE OUR BOARD COMMENTS. TATIANA, DO YOU WANT TO START?

[16. BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS]

SURE. HI, EVERYONE. JUST SOME UPDATES FROM MY SCHOOL.

FIRSTLY, THIS SUNDAY, MY THE ROBOTICS TEAM THAT I AM ON WILL BE GOING TO STATE, WHICH IS REALLY EXCITING.

AND YEAH, I HOPE THAT WE DO. WELL, I'M SURE THAT WE WILL.

WE'VE BEEN WORKING REALLY HARD. ADDITIONALLY, A FEW STUDENTS THAT COMPETED AT THESPY FOR MY SCHOOL, WHICH IS LIKE A THEATER COMPETITION FOR THESPIANS RECEIVED EXCELLENCE IN WHAT THEY COMPETED IN, WHICH IS REALLY EXCITING. WE FINISHED OUR FIRST SEMESTER SHOWS, AND WE'RE MOVING ON TO PRACTICE FOR OUR SECOND SEMESTER.

SHOWS FOR THEATER. AND THAT'S REALLY GREAT. I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO REHEARSING.

ADDITIONALLY, MY SCHOOL [INAUDIBLE] SOMETHING CALLED LIKE, WSLP WEEKS RIGHT NOW, SO IT'S A LITTLE BIT SLOWER AND MORE CHILL BECAUSE WE BECAUSE WE ARE A HOMESCHOOL CO-OP AS WELL. WE HAVE LIKE JUST TWO WEEKS WHERE WE MEET WITH OUR ADVISORS AND WE DO OUR AT HOME LEARNING.

SO THAT'S WHAT'S HAPPENING RIGHT NOW. SO IT'S A LITTLE BIT MORE CHILL ON CAMPUS.

BUT AT HOME WE ARE ALL STILL DOING OUR HOME LEARNING, WHICH IS GOING GOOD.

I ALSO WANTED TO JUST NOTE ON SOMETHING THAT I WITNESSED TODAY AT ANOTHER EDMONDS SCHOOL DISTRICT SCHOOL.

MY LITTLE BROTHER GOES TO MARTHA LAKE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, AND I WANTED TO JUST SAY THAT I REALLY LIKE AND APPRECIATE THEIR SCHOOLS LEVEL OF SECURITY. I WENT TO PICK HIM UP FROM SCHOOL. HE'S IN KINDERGARTEN.

AND HIS TEACHER, BECAUSE WE WERE A FEW MINUTES LATE, HIS TEACHER WAS STANDING OUT THERE WITH HIM AND WAITING, AND THEY WERE TALKING AND LAUGHING, AND HE WAS HAVING A GOOD TIME.

AND I REMEMBER THERE WERE TIMES WHEN I WAS A KID AND MY PARENTS WOULD BE LATE TO GET ME FROM SCHOOL BECAUSE OF WORK AND OTHER THINGS.

AND IT WAS ALWAYS REALLY SCARY, I GUESS, AND TO SEE THAT MY BROTHER WAS HAPPY, JUST HAVING A GOOD TIME WAITING WITH HIS TEACHER AND NOT WORRIED AT ALL.

IT WAS REALLY GREAT AND I JUST WANTED TO SAY THAT I REALLY LIKE HOW MARTHA LAKE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DOES THAT.

SO YEAH, THAT'S WHAT I WANTED TO SAY. THANKS FOR THAT SMILE.

THAT'S VERY NICE. AMAYA. WELL, AT TERRACE, WE'RE HAVING OUR MULTICULTURAL

[01:35:06]

SPIRIT WEEK LEADING UP TO OUR MULTICULTURAL ASSEMBLY HAPPENING THIS FRIDAY.

FOR BSU BLACK STUDENT UNION. WE'RE GOING TO BE COLLABORATING WITH THE CITY COUNCIL A LITTLE BIT NEXT MONTH, AND HOPEFULLY THEY'LL BE ABLE TO STOP BY SOME OF OUR MEETINGS DURING THIS MONTH.

I WANT TO TALK ABOUT THE BLACK LIVES MATTER MONTH OF ACTION THAT WAS BROUGHT UP EARLIER.

ON THE WEBSITE, IT SAYS THAT THE NATIONAL BLACK LIVES MATTER AT SCHOOL MOVEMENT URGES US TO MOVE BEYOND CELEBRATING BLACK LIVES JUST ONCE A YEAR TOWARDS MAKING RACIAL EQUITY A REALITY BY CENTERING BLACK LIVES EVERY DAY.

I KNOW THAT THE TITLE BLACK LIVES MATTER MONTH OF ACTION IS VERY EYE CATCHING, ESPECIALLY BECAUSE IT SAYS BLACK LIVES MATTER MONTH AND NOT BLACK HISTORY MONTH, BUT I THINK THAT THE MESSAGE SPEAKS MORE THAN JUST THE NAME ITSELF.

DURING BLACK HISTORY MONTH, I THINK WE KIND OF GET LOST IN JUST DOING THE SAME THINGS OVER AND OVER AGAIN, TALKING ABOUT THE SAME COUPLE OF PEOPLE IN BLACK HISTORY AND THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS TO AMERICAN HISTORY.

BUT I DON'T THINK WE DO ENOUGH WORK TO ACTUALLY MOVE FORWARD AS A SOCIETY AND MOVE FORWARD WITHIN OUR SCHOOLS.

BECAUSE JUST TALKING ABOUT BLACK HISTORIANS OR BLACK LEADERS ONCE A YEAR IS NOT ENOUGH.

I DO APPRECIATE ALL THE RESOURCES THAT ARE ON THIS WEBSITE.

LIKE IT'S SO CUTE. WE HAVE A SESAME STREET RESOURCE FOR KINDERGARTNERS TO UNDERSTAND TOPICS ABOUT RACE.

THERE'S A SECTION THAT IS A GUIDE FOR ADULTS TO HAVE TO HAVE CONVERSATIONS ABOUT RACE AND MICROAGGRESSIONS AND COLORISM FOR CHILDREN OF ALL GRADE LEVELS. AND THERE'S ALSO THE BLACK LIVES MATTER BOOK SECTION, THE BOOK LIST.

THREE BOOKS THAT I WANT TO HIGHLIGHT ARE THE LET THE CHILDREN MARCH, THE UNSPEAKABLE THE TULSA RACE MASSACRE, AND MY PERSONAL FAVORITE, ANTIRACIST BABY. SO I THINK THAT IF WE MOVE PAST THE NAME BEING BLACK LIVES MATTER MONTH OF ACTION AND ACTUALLY TAKE A STEP TO LOOK AT THE RESOURCES AND THE CALL TO ACTION THAT THIS PART OF OUR WEBSITE IS GIVING US, THEN WE CAN ALL JUST MOVE FORWARD AND CENTER BLACK LIVES AS IT SAYS.

THANK YOU. THAT WAS VERY, VERY HELPFUL. [APPLAUSE] ALL RIGHT, SCARLETT, YOU WANT TO GO NEXT? SO UPDATES FROM MY SCHOOL. OBVIOUSLY, THERE WERE A LOT OF ALL STATE AND ALL NORTHWEST MUSICIANS, AND I THINK MR. TAM OSBORNE SAID THERE WAS 13 TOTAL, AND OUT OF THE 13, THERE WAS FIVE FROM EDMONDS-WOODWAY HIGH SCHOOL, WHICH IS FANTASTIC. AND OUT OF THE FIVE MANY OF THEM WERE ALL NORTHWEST.

AND I'M SO PROUD OF THEM FOR BEING ABLE TO DO THAT.

LEADING UP TO THAT, ONCE AGAIN, RUBBER CHICKEN IS ON THIS SATURDAY, AND THE DISTRICT SNO-KING MUSIC EDUCATORS ASSOCIATION SOLO AND ENSEMBLE IS AT LYNNWOOD HIGH SCHOOL THIS SATURDAY AS WELL.

AND PERSONALLY, I HAVE EITHER LIKE SIX ENSEMBLES OR SOLOS THAT I WILL BE EITHER PERFORMING OR ACCOMPANYING AT, SO I'M EXCITED TO GO THERE. AND THEN TODAY IS ACTUALLY LUNAR NEW YEAR'S EVE.

TOMORROW IS LUNAR NEW YEAR. AND THAT'S JUST PART OF MY CULTURE.

IT'S THE YEAR OF THE SNAKE THIS YEAR FOR THE CHINESE ZODIAC.

AND I WANT TO TOUCH ON THE LEGISLATIVE UPDATE.

ACTUALLY, I WENT ON TO THE WSSDA BILL TRACKER.

AND THIS YEAR, I WAS ABLE. I'M PART OF A COALITION, AND WE ARE PROMOTING ASIAN AMERICAN, NATIVE HAWAIIAN AND PACIFIC ISLANDER EDUCATION IN WASHINGTON STATE. AND LAST YEAR, THE BILL WAS FILED AS SENATE BILL 6314.

BUT THIS YEAR WE HAVE REFILED IT AS 5574. SO IF YOU GO ON THE WSSDA BILL TRACKER WEBSITE AND SEARCH UP SB 5574, THERE WILL BE INFORMATION ON HOW WE ARE PROVIDING INSTRUCTION ON ASIAN AMERICAN, NATIVE HAWAIIAN PACIFIC ISLANDER HISTORY IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS, AND THE PRESS RELEASE IS BEING FINALIZED TODAY AND MORE INFORMATION WILL GO OUT TONIGHT.

OUR GOAL IS TO REQUIRE ASIAN AMERICAN, NATIVE HAWAIIAN AND PACIFIC ISLANDER EDUCATION IN WASHINGTON IN GRADES K THROUGH 12 BECAUSE CURRENTLY IT'S SUGGESTED AND IT'S NOT A REQUIREMENT. AND WE'RE OUR GOAL IS TO PROMOTE THE ETHNIC STUDIES.

AND I WILL BE GOING TO OLYMPIA ON FEBRUARY 13TH TO SPEAK WITH LAWMAKERS TO HOPEFULLY MAKE THIS BILL HAPPEN.

[01:40:05]

SO YEAH, THANK YOU. [APPLAUSE] GOOD FOR YOU. THAT WAS A GREAT REPORT.

AND HAPPY LUNAR NEW YEAR TO YOU. AMIN. OKAY. SAME THING.

I SAW MEADOWDALE HIGH SCHOOL OVER HERE WITH THE FIELD TRIP ACTIONS.

I'M VERY HAPPY TO SEE THAT OUR STUDENTS ARE PARTICIPATING IN THESE COMPETITIONS FOR LIKE, HOSA AND DECA AND KEY CLUB, OTHER STUFF LIKE THAT. AND BUT ONE THING THAT I LIKE TO HIGHLIGHT IS ALSO RUBBER CHICKEN.

WOOHOO! [LAUGHTER] SO IT IS THIS SATURDAY AT MEADOWDALE.

SHOW UP SUPPORT MEADOWDALE. YEAH, OKAY. OKAY.

DIRECTOR GERRARD. OKAY, SO FIRST I JUST WANT TO THANK OUR STUDENTS.

THIS PERSPECTIVE THEY BRING IS SO IMPORTANT. I MEAN, ABOUT CENTERING BLACK LIVES, ABOUT LUNAR NEW YEAR.

LIKE REMINDING US THAT THIS IS PART OF THE EXPERIENCE OF OUR STUDENTS AND THAT WE NEED TO KEEP THAT IN OUR MINDS. I'M GLAD TO HAVE RECOVERED QUICKLY, PRETTY QUICKLY FROM COVID, THANKS TO BEING VACCINATED AND HAVING PAXLOVID. I GOT OVER IT PRETTY QUICK. IT'S HARD TO BELIEVE THAT WE'RE HALFWAY THROUGH THE SCHOOL YEAR.

OH, MY GOSH, THIS HAS GONE QUICKLY. I WANTED TO NOTE ON LEGISLATIVE ADVOCACY THAT I HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE AN AUDIENCE WITH IT TURNED OUT TO BE SENATOR LIIAS' AIDE RATHER THAN SENATOR LIIAS HE GOT CALLED AWAY.

BUT THE AIDES ARE ALSO VERY IMPORTANT. IF YOU CAN GET A MEETING WITH THEM, THEY HAVE THE EAR OF THE REPRESENTATIVE OR THE SENATOR.

IT WAS ANOTHER ORGANIZATION, BUT I USED THE OPPORTUNITY TO POINT OUT THAT INCREASING REVENUE WAS IMPORTANT BECAUSE SCHOOLS NEED MORE MONEY.

SO I USED THAT OPPORTUNITY. FINALLY, I WANTED TO SAY THAT I KNOW THERE'S A THAT OUR COMMUNITY IS NOT NECESSARILY ALL SHARE THE SAME VIEW OF ON EVERYTHING.

HOWEVER, WE HAVE STUDENTS WHO ARE TRANSGENDER.

WE HAVE FAMILIES WITH OTHER MEMBERS IN THEIR FAMILIES WHO ARE TRANSGENDER.

AND SO WE'RE GOING TO CONTINUE TO BE SUPPORTIVE OF THOSE STUDENTS WHO ARE IN THOSE FAMILIES.

AND WE ARE GOING T O MAKE SURE THAT THEY FEEL LIKE THEY BELONG IN OUR SCHOOLS.

AND I FEEL REALLY STRONGLY ABOUT THAT. SO THAT'S ALL I HAVE TO SAY.

[APPLAUSE] DIRECTOR CRAMER. HI. THANK YOU. SO A BIG CELEBRATION, OF COURSE, FOR OUR MUSIC FAMILIES AND OUR EXTRAORDINARY MUSIC PROGRAMS THAT HAVE PRODUCED SUCH INCREDIBLE MUSICIANS AND OUR KIDS. AND IT'S NOT FUNDED WHICH SHOULD BE PART OF BASIC EDUCATION. THE ARTS SHOULD BE PART OF BASIC EDUCATION.

AND I WANT TO BE REAL WITH EVERYONE THAT THE UPCOMING BUDGET IS NOT LOOKING GOOD.

YOU GUYS KNOW HOW MUCH WE CUT LAST YEAR AND HOW TERRIBLY PAINFUL THAT WAS.

FIFTH GRADERS CAN'T HAVE MUSIC, THEY HAVE BAND ORCHESTRA ANYMORE, RIGHT? IT'S NOT LOOKING GOOD FOR THIS COMING YEAR. AGAIN, WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO CUT A LOT, A LOT.

I DON'T KNOW THE EXACT NUMBER YET, BUT WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO.

WE'RE LOOKING AT CUTTING MORE THAN WE'VE ALREADY CUT.

NOTHING'S COMING BACK. SO IF YOU HAVE ANY TIME, PLEASE GET ON THE WEBSITE, CHECK IT OUT, FIGURE OUT HOW YOU CAN GET INVOLVED BECAUSE I MEAN, WE'RE WE'RE TURNING OVER EVERY POSSIBLE STONE.

IS THERE ANY CLASS THAT HAS LESS THAN 25 KIDS? RIGHT. WHY? I MEAN, THAT'S WHERE WE ARE. SO I JUST WANT TO BE REAL WITH EVERYONE WHO'S LISTENING, BUT ALSO WANT TO THANK EVERY PERSON THAT SHOWS UP TO THESE MEETINGS TO SHARE THEIR PASSIONS,

[01:45:02]

TO BE INVOLVED, TO HEAR, TO LISTEN. AND EVERYONE AT HOME WHO IS LISTENING.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INVOLVEMENT. FOR KEEPING AN EAR ON WHAT'S GOING ON AND SHARING WITH YOUR NEIGHBORS.

WE HAVE A GREAT DISTRICT. WE HAVE A DISTRICT THAT IS FAILING IN MANY WAYS, INCLUDING WITH OUR STUDENTS IN MATH. THANK YOU FOR BRINGING THAT UP.

IT'S BEEN GOING ON FOR A LONG TIME, AND IT NEEDS TO CHANGE.

WE HAVE LOTS OF CHALLENGES AHEAD. BUT WE ARE A GREAT COMMUNITY, AND I BELIEVE WE CAN MEET THOSE CHALLENGES.

AND I'M HEARTENED BY THE STUDENTS THAT WE HAVE HERE TODAY WITH THE LEADERSHIP AND ENGAGEMENT THAT THEY DEMONSTRATE AND MODEL FOR EVERYONE ELSE.

FINALLY, I WANT TO PUT OUT A THANK YOU TO OUR BUS DRIVERS WHO EVERY DAY WHEN THEY PICK UP KIDS SO MANY OF THEM HAVE RELATIONSHIPS WITH THOSE KIDS THAT THEY MEET AND PICK UP EVERY DAY.

THEY HAVE CONVERSATIONS WITH THEM, THEY KNOW THEIR NAMES. AND SO ANYONE THAT'S LISTENING FROM TRANSPORTATION, THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE. AND ALSO A SHOUT OUT TO OUR CUSTODIANS.

MANY OF THEM HAVE GREAT RELATIONSHIPS WITH OUR KIDS AS WELL AND DO THEIR BEST TO KEEP OUR SCHOOLS AS CLEAN AS POSSIBLE, EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE UNDERFUNDED. RIGHT? WE DON'T HAVE AS MANY OF THEM.

THEY DO THEIR ABSOLUTE BEST WHILE ALSO DOING THEIR BEST TO MODEL FOR KIDS WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A MEMBER OF THE COMMUNITY.

SO SHOUT OUT TO THOSE GUYS AND HAPPY LUNAR NEW YEAR.

[APPLAUSE] DIRECTOR SMITH. GOT A FEW THINGS I WANT TO COVER.

THE FIRST ONE, I'LL SAY MR. KEELER, I THANK YOU FOR POINTING THIS OUT.

I KNOW THAT WE'VE BEEN HURTING FOR IN THE MATH DOMAIN FOR QUITE A WHILE, AND SO SEEING THESE NUMBERS ISN'T GREAT.

I ALSO DO WONDER I'VE HAD A LONG TERM INTEREST IN THIS SPECIFIC MEASURE, THOUGH ALSO BECAUSE I DID REALLY WELL IN MATH IN HIGH SCHOOL, BUT THEN TESTED AS THOUGH I WOULD NEED REMEDIAL CLASSES IN COLLEGE, AND THEN HAD TO REDO THE TEST AND GOT PASSED IT.

AND I HAVE OTHER FRIENDS WHO ALSO DID VERY WELL FROM DIFFERENT DISTRICTS, DIFFERENT PLACES, AND THEN THEY TAKE THE TESTS AND IT SHOWS REMEDIAL CLASSES.

I'M JUST WONDERING IF THE TOOL WE'RE USING MIGHT BE A LITTLE FLAWED.

THAT DOESN'T MEAN THAT WE DON'T HAVE GROWTH TO DO IN MATH. WE DEFINITELY DO. BUT I DON'T KNOW, I JUST DON'T TRUST THESE SORTS OF MEASUREMENTS THAT WELL, THAT WHAT WE'RE MEASURING IS ACTUALLY WHETHER OR NOT WE'RE PREPPING KIDS FOR THE NEXT LEVEL. BUT THAT'S MY OWN MY OWN BELIEF ON THAT.

I DO APPRECIATE THE WORK THAT YOU DID TO PULL THESE FOR US, BECAUSE I DO THINK IT'S A BENCHMARK THAT WE NEED TO WORK ON. I ALSO WANTED TO AND I HAVE MENTIONED THIS BEFORE TO THE GROUP TO OUR AUDIENCE IN THE PAST.

AND I'LL START WITH I DIDN'T COME ON TO THIS POSITION TO GRANDSTAND.

LIKE THAT'S NOT MY PURPOSE HERE. I CAME HERE TO GET STUFF DONE.

AND PART OF GETTING STUFF DONE IS UNDERSTANDING WHAT'S GOING ON SO THAT YOU CAN ACTUALLY ADDRESS THOSE THINGS.

SO I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE A POSITION ON SOME OF THE COMMENTS THAT WE HEARD EARLIER, BUT IT WAS MENTIONED THAT WE ARE FOCUSING ON THE BLACK LIVES MATTER MOVEMENT VERSUS BLACK HISTORY. AND TO THAT I SAY, ARE WE LIKE, THERE WAS NO ONE WHO GAVE ME ANY CURRICULUM THAT SHOWS THAT WE'RE FOCUSING EXCLUSIVELY ON ONE THING TO THE DETRIMENT OF ANOTHER. NOBODY HAS TOLD ME THAT WE ARE NEGLECTING A CERTAIN AREA OF BLACK HISTORY.

LIKE IT'S JUST SOMEBODY SAYING THAT WE'RE DOING THIS OR REFERRING KIDS OUT FOR SEX REASSIGNMENT.

LIKE, ARE WE DOING THAT? I HAVEN'T SEEN ANY EVIDENCE OF THAT.

I DON'T KNOW WHERE THAT IS HAPPENING. IF THAT IS HAPPENING SOMEONE SEND ME AN EMAIL, SLIP A PAPER UNDER MY FRONT DOOR IF YOU WANT TO, TO MAINTAIN YOUR SECRECY. WHATEVER. LIKE, I CAN'T FIX THINGS IF I DON'T KNOW HOW WE'RE DOING THEM WRONG.

EXCUSE ME. SO, YOU KNOW, AS I'VE SAT UP HERE FOR FOUR YEARS, IT IS A THING THAT I WILL KEEP SAYING.

IF YOU WANT TO COME UP AND YOU WANT TO HAVE YOUR SAY, YOU ARE FREE TO DO THAT.

BUT DON'T EXPECT ME TO CHANGE SOMETHING IF YOU CAN'T TELL ME WHAT NEEDS TO CHANGE.

AND I AM ALL EARS. I AM HAPPY TO MAKE CHANGES THAT NEED TO BE MADE NO MATTER WHAT THEY ARE.

I AM HAPPY TO MAKE NECESSARY CHANGES, BUT I NEED TO KNOW WHAT THEY ARE.

AND SO THAT IS A DIFFICULT PART OF THIS, IS T O HEAR PEOPLE COMPLAIN AND HAVE THEM NOT GIVE ME ANYTHING CONCRETE TO WORK WITH.

SO PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE GIVE ME CONCRETE EXAMPLES SO THAT I CAN ADDRESS YOUR CONCERNS.

I ALSO, I'M SURE MANY PEOPLE IN OUR COMMUNITY SAW THIS OVER THE WEEKEND.

IT JUMPED OUT AT ME. DURING THE WHAT WAS IT? IT WAS THE BILLS AND THE CHIEFS GAME.

THERE WAS A COMMERCIAL FOR WASHINGTON STATE BUDGET.

SOME SORT OF A WEBSITE THAT HAS COME OUT THAT TALKS ABOUT OUR BUDGET THAT'S OSTENSIBLY NONPARTISAN.

[01:50:07]

AND IT'S CLEAR WHEN I WENT THROUGH IT THAT THEIR ARGUMENT IS ESSENTIALLY ONE OF THE STATE HAS OUTSPENT ITS RESOURCES.

AND IT MAY COME AS A SURPRISE, PEOPLE, I ACTUALLY COMPLETELY AGREE WITH THAT. I THINK THE LEGISLATURE HAS FIGURED OUT IS WAY EASIER TO CREATE PROGRAMS AND THEN NOT TELL PEOPLE HOW THEY'RE GOING TO PAY FOR THEM, BECAUSE IT LOOKS REALLY GOOD TO SAY, WE'RE GOING TO MAKE ALL THESE CHANGES.

AND THEN, YOU KNOW, WE JUST WON'T TALK ABOUT THE UNPLEASANT PARTS.

SO I DON'T ACTUALLY THINK. AND I WENT AROUND THE WEBSITE AND LOOKED AT IT, AND I DON'T THINK THEY'RE TOTALLY WRONG, BUT THAT DOESN'T ABSOLVE THE STATE OF ITS PARAMOUNT DUTY, WHICH IS EDUCATION. WE ARE SO FAR BEHIND, CHRIS.

RIGHT, RIGHT. LET'S TRY THAT AGAIN. CHRIS REYKDAL SAID THAT IT'S $4 BILLION A YEAR THAT'S PROBABLY RIGHT.

HE HAS MORE EXPERIENCE IN THAT AREA THAN I DO.

BUT EVEN IF THAT'S NOT RIGHT, AS DIRECTOR CRAMER MENTIONED EARLIER, WE JUST CAN'T MEET OUR REQUIREMENTS.

AND IF ALL WE DID WAS SPEND THE MONEY THAT WE WERE GIVEN BY THE STATE, WE WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO GRADUATE OUR STUDENTS.

HARD STOP. WE WOULDN'T MEET GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS.

THE STATE HAS LAID OUT WE CAN'T DO IT WITH WHAT THEY GIVE US.

SO I DIDN'T THINK THERE WAS GOING TO BE A HUGE BUDGETARY PUSHBACK THIS YEAR.

I DID. I JUST DIDN'T THINK THAT ANYONE WOULD REALLY TAKE MUCH NOTICE. BUT APPARENTLY THAT IS MOBILIZING NOW.

AND YOU WILL FIND SYMPATHY FROM ME THAT THE STATE PROBABLY IS TRYING TO SPEND MORE MONEY THAN IT HAS, BUT THAT DOES NOT MEAN WE CAN LET THEM OFF THE HOOK.

THE LAST THING I WANTED TO HIT ON WAS FOR OUR FAMILIES WHO ARE CONCERNED ABOUT POTENTIAL IMMIGRATION ISSUES. I FEEL FOR YOU ALL I DO, AND THAT I CAN'T EVEN IMAGINE HOW TOUGH THAT MUST BE WITH ALL THE OTHER THINGS THAT ARE HAPPENING IN LIFE JUST TO BE IN AMERICA.

HARD STOP. LET ALONE TO KNOW THERE'S THIS OTHER THING THAT'S HANGING OVER YOUR HEAD.

I'VE SPOKEN BRIEFLY WITH THE SUPERINTENDENT ABOUT IT.

WE'RE LOOKING. I KNOW THAT LAST I HEARD, SHE WAS LOOKING FOR SOME GUIDANCE ON IT.

AND I HOPE THAT WE WILL OVER THE COMING WEEKS.

I KNOW THERE WAS AT LEAST ONE EMAIL CAME OUT. I'M HOPING OVER THE COMING WEEKS AND DAYS, WE HAVE A REALLY CLEAR PATH FORWARD ON THIS.

BUT I DO WANT TO REASSURE OUR COMMUNITY MEMBERS THAT I DON'T HAVE THE POWER TO DO EVERYTHING THAT I WOULD LIKE TO DO, BUT THIS IS A HILL THAT I AM WILLING TO DIE ON.

OUR CHILDREN SHOULD FEEL SAFE IN OUR SCHOOLS.

IF THERE'S STUFF THAT IS HAPPENING OUTSIDE OF OUR SCHOOLS THAT IS BEYOND OUR CONTROL, EVEN IF IT HAS TO DO WITH IMMIGRATION, LIKE THERE ARE THINGS THAT WE CAN'T NECESSARILY DO THERE. BUT WITHIN THE FOUR WALLS OF OUR SCHOOLS, OUR STUDENTS SHOULD FEEL SAFE.

THEY SHOULD NOT FEEL LIKE THEY ARE SUBJECT TO PEOPLE RUNNING IN WITH GUNS AND HANDCUFFS TO PULL THEM AWAY.

THAT IS NOT RIGHT, AND I SINCERELY HOPE THAT THE DISTRICT IS GOING TO DO EVERYTHING THAT THEY CAN TO MAKE SURE THINGS LIKE THAT DON'T HAPPEN. I'M SURE THAT THEY WILL. AND THIS IS A THING THAT EVEN AND THERE ARE SOMETIMES THAT MONEY DOESN'T MATTER.

AND TO ME, THIS IS ONE OF THEM THAT EVEN IN A TOUGH BUDGET BUDGET SITUATION, IF IT COST US SOMETHING TO FIGHT, SOMETHING THAT UNFAIR, I AM OKAY WITH THAT. SO I AM ON YOUR SIDE IN THIS.

YOUR CHILDREN SHOULD COME TO SCHOOL. THEY SHOULD FEEL SAFE. THAT'S ALL I HAVE TO SAY.

I HAVE A PRETTY SIMPLE UPDATE TONIGHT. I WANT TO THANK ALL OUR STAFF FOR ALL THEIR HARD WORK.

OUR DISTRICT STAFF, OUR SCHOOL BASED STAFF, FOR ALL THEIR HARD WORK IN KEEPING US CONTINUING TO WORK FOR EXCELLENCE, ENGAGEMENT AND EQUITY EVEN IN THIS REALLY REDUCED CLIMATE OF REDUCED RESOURCES.

I'D LIKE TO THANK OUR COMMUNITY FOR ALL OF THEIR SUPPORT IN CONTINUING TO SUPPORT US IN OUR EFFORTS, AND PARTICULARLY ALSO FOR ADVOCATING FOR FUNDING AT THE STATE LEVEL TO HELP MEET THEIR PARAMOUNT DUTY SO THAT WE CAN CONTINUE TO EDUCATE OUR KIDS. AND THE LAST GROUP, I WANT TO THANK OUR STUDENTS.

I WANT TO THANK OUR STUDENT ADVISORS BECAUSE YOUR POINT OF VIEW IS ESSENTIAL FOR US TO HEAR.

I WANT TO THANK ALL THE STUDENTS WHO COME BEFORE US.

THE ELEMENTARY KIDS WHO ARE WILLING TO TELL US HOW THEY ARE WORKING TOWARD BELONGING IN THEIR SCHOOL, HOW THEY ARE WORKING TOWARD THEIR GOALS, AND HOW THEY CONTINUE TO WORK EVERY DAY VERY HARD TO BE LEARNERS AND LEADERS, AND TO SEE THE KINDS OF EXCELLENCE THAT WE SAW IN OUR MUSIC STUDENTS TONIGHT, AND HEARING ABOUT THE MUSIC THAT OUR STUDENTS HERE DO AS WELL, BECAUSE THEY ARE THE HEART OF WHAT EVERYTHING WE DO.

SO JUST APPRECIATION. AND I JUST WANT TO ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO CHOOSE SOMETHING YOU LOVE AND GET OUT

[01:55:10]

TO SEE OUR STUDENTS IN THEIR SCHOOLS AND OUR STAFF SUPPORTING THEM, DOING THE THINGS THEY LOVE.

WE HEARD ABOUT THE SOLO ENSEMBLE CONCERT JUST ON SATURDAY ALONE ON MY CALENDAR.

SOLO ENSEMBLE CONCERT ALL ESD SWIM MEET. IF SWIM IS YOUR JAM, YOU CAN GO SEE THE KIDS SWIMMING THEN A HOSA.

THAT'S HEALTH OCCUPATIONS. WE'VE HEARD A LOT ABOUT CTE, HOSA BINGO NIGHT AND RUBBER CHICKEN GAME.

I DON'T KNOW IF I'LL DO IT ALL, BUT THAT'S MY GOAL.

BUT YOU CAN ALSO SEE WE HAVE QUAD CONCERTS COMING UP.

TAKE A LOOK AT OUR DISTRICT CALENDAR, FIND SOMETHING, GET OUT AND WATCH THE STUDENTS DOING THE THINGS THEY LOVE, CELEBRATING THEIR TALENTS, THEIR JOYS AND ROBOTICS.

ALL KINDS OF THINGS YOU CAN DO. YOU CAN LEARN A LOT ABOUT OUR SCHOOLS AND OUR STUDENTS FROM SEEING THEM REALLY IN THESE IMPORTANT ACTIVITIES TO THEM.

SO THANK YOU. GREAT. THANK YOU EVERYBODY. AND THIS REGULAR BUSINESS MEETING OF THE EDMONDS SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD OF DIRECTORS IS ADJOURNED.
