THANK YOU, DOCTOR KATIMS, WE ACKNOWLEDGE THE ORIGINAL INHABITANTS OF THIS PLACE, THE SDOHOBSH PEOPLE AND THEIR SUCCESSORS, THE TULALIP TRIBES, WHO SINCE TIME IMMEMORIAL HAVE TAKEN CARE OF, HUNTED, FISHED AND GATHERED ON THESE LANDS.

WE RESPECT THEIR SOVEREIGNTY, THEIR RIGHT TO SELF-DETERMINATION, AND WE HONOR THEIR SACRED SPIRITUAL CONNECTIONS WITH THE LAND AND WATER.

BY ACKNOWLEDGING THESE HOMELANDS WE COMMIT TO WORKING WITH TRIBAL NATIONS TO FURTHER THE EDUCATION AIMS THEY HAVE IDENTIFIED IN OUR CLASSROOMS AND SCHOOLS. THANK YOU.

OH, NO. NEXT IS A FLAG SALUTE.

DO I HEAR A MOTION AND A SECOND? I'D LIKE TO MOVE TO APPROVE THE AGENDA AS WRITTEN.

SECOND. I'VE HEARD A MOTION TO APPROVE.

AND A SECOND. IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION? HEARING NONE. I'LL CALL FOR A VOTE.

EVERYBODY IN FAVOR OF APPROVING TONIGHT'S AGENDA AS PRESENTED.

PLEASE INDICATE BY SAYING AYE.

AYE. ALL THOSE OPPOSED SAY NAY.

ANY ABSTENTIONS? AND TONIGHT'S AGENDA IS APPROVED AS PRESENTED.

NEXT WE HAVE A CELEBRATION.

[6. CELEBRATION- 6:35 pm]

ALWAYS A GREAT MEETING WHEN WE CAN KICK OFF WITH A LITTLE BIT OF A CELEBRATION.

TONIGHT WE CELEBRATE OUR FALL SPORTS.

I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO ATTEND MANY SPORTING EVENTS, ALL WONDERFUL AND ENJOYABLE IN AND OF THEMSELVES.

BUT TONIGHT I'LL BRING FORWARD ANGIE MCGUIRE AND WILL HIGHLIGHT A FEW OF OUR OUTSTANDING ATHLETES.

THANK YOU AND THANKS TO THE SCHOOL BOARD FOR GIVING US THIS TIME TO RECOGNIZE THESE STUDENT ATHLETES.

VERY DESERVING. IF I COULD HAVE ALL OF OUR ATHLETES WHO ARE HERE, COME ON UP AND WE'LL JUST CREATE A LINE, WE'LL RECOGNIZE YOU BY SCHOOL, BUT COME ON UP [INAUDIBLE] . SO I ALSO WANTED TO RECOGNIZE FAMILY MEMBERS, SUPPORTERS, IF YOU ARE HERE AND RAISE YOUR HAND IF YOU ARE KNOW THESE STUDENT ATHLETES HAVE CHEERED THEM ON.

THANK YOU.

THEY DON'T MAGICALLY APPEAR HERE ACCOMPLISHING GREAT THINGS AND OUT REPRESENTING THEIR SCHOOL.

IT TAKES A LOT OF CARE AND EFFORT AND TIME AND ENERGY ON YOUR PART.

SO THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT.

NOT ONLY THIS SEASON, BUT EVERY SEASON AND I ALSO WANTED TO GIVE A SHOUT OUT TO ANY COACHES WE HAVE IN THE ROOM OR TEACHERS I KNOW, JOHN OR LINWOOD, TENNIS COACHES BACK HERE.

ANNALISE LINWOOD, VOLLEYBALL.

ANY TEACHERS? LET'S GIVE OUR COACHES A ROUND OF APPLAUSE.

SO I KNOW WE HAVE A FEW PEOPLE WHO WERE UNABLE TO MAKE IT TONIGHT.

BUT WE'RE GOING TO START WITH MOUNTLAKE TERRACE HIGH SCHOOL, SO I'M GOING TO GO BY SCHOOL.

REILLY BROOKHART, CAN YOU GO AHEAD AND STEP OUT? AND JESLYN VUONG, GO AHEAD AND STEP UP.

WE CAN GIVE HIM A ROUND OF APPLAUSE AND THEN, REILLY, YOU'RE GOING TO STAY BECAUSE I'M GOING TO SAY A FEW GREAT THINGS ABOUT YOU, AND THEN YOU CAN STEP BACK SO, JESLYN, YOU CAN STAY STAY OUT AS WELL.

SO REILLY IS ON THE MOUNTLAKE TERRACE CROSS COUNTRY TEAM.

HE'S A SOPHOMORE.

HE RECEIVED FIRST TEAM ALL WESCO HONORS, WHICH IS VERY EXCITING.

AS A SOPHOMORE, HE WAS THE TOP MOUNTLAKE TERRACE RUNNER IN EVERY MEET THAT HE RAN IN.

THIS YEAR, HE WAS TOP TEN FINISH IN ALL FIVE MEETS.

HE FINISHED EIGHTH AT DISTRICTS.

HE QUALIFIED FOR STATE CROSS COUNTRY, WHICH IS VERY EXCITING, COOL EXPERIENCE AND HIS COACH LET ME KNOW THAT HE HAS THE FASTEST FIVE K TIME FOR A SOPHOMORE CURRENTLY IN MOUNTLAKE TERRACE HISTORY AND HE'S JUST A SOPHOMORE.

SO ABOVE THAT, HIS COACH SAYS HE'S A GREAT TEAMMATE.

HE MOTIVATES OTHERS TO BE THEIR BEST.

AND CONGRATULATIONS ON A GREAT SEASON, REILLY AND UP NEXT, JESLYN VUONG, WHO'S ON THE MOUNTLAKE TERRACE SWIM TEAM.

[00:05:03]

SHE'S A SENIOR. SHE RECEIVED FIRST TEAM ALL WESCO RECOGNITION IN THE 50 FREE SECOND TEAM IN THE 400 FREE RELAY, AND SHE WAS A 2024 DISTRICT CHAMPION IN THE 50 FREESTYLE, WHICH WAS A REALLY AMAZING RACE TO WATCH AND SHE WENT ON TO PLACE FIFTH IN STATE IN THE 50 FREE DOWN AT THE STATE MEET THIS YEAR, WHICH IS VERY IMPRESSIVE.

SHE HOLDS THE SCHOOL RECORD FOR MOUNTLAKE TERRACE, SHIELDS AND MOUNTLAKE TERRACE SCHOOL RECORD IN THE 50 FREE AND THE 100 FREESTYLE, AND SHE IS ALSO ON THE RECORD BOARDS FOR THE 204 HUNDRED FREE RELAYS.

HER COACH SAYS THAT WHAT SETS HER APART IS WHAT SHE BRINGS TO THE TEAM.

SHE'S A LEADER AND MENTOR AND CAPTAIN.

CONGRATULATIONS, JESLYN.

AND I DON'T SEE ANY OF MY MEADOWDALE HIGH SCHOOL FOLKS HERE, SO I'M GOING TO GO STRAIGHT TO EDMONDS-WOODWAY.

SO IF MY EDMONDS-WOODWAY PEOPLE COULD STEP OUT.

I HAVE STEVEN ANDERSON EDMONDS-WOODWAY TENNIS.

WE'LL GIVE HIM A ROUND OF APPLAUSE.

HE'S REALLY IMPRESSIVE AND THEN THE 200 YARD MEDLEY RELAY OF SIMONE BENNETT, TATUM DENSON, MADISON MORALES THOMAS AND SYDNEY BATES.

SO I'LL START WITH STEVEN AND STEVEN.

THANK YOU FOR COMING STRAIGHT FROM WORK.

WE APPRECIATE IT.

I'M GLAD YOU MADE IT HERE IN TIME.

STEVEN IS REALLY IMPRESSIVE ON THE TENNIS COURT.

HE RECEIVED FIRST TEAM ALL WESCO RECOGNITION THIS YEAR.

HE'S NUMBER ONE SINGLES ALL SEASON FOR EDMONDS-WOODWAY.

HE HAS A FOUR YEAR VARSITY TENNIS PLAYER AND HE HAS BEEN DOMINATING WESCO SINCE HIS FRESHMAN YEAR.

HE PLAYED NUMBER ONE ALL YEAR.

THIS YEAR HE WENT 12 AND ONE.

HE WON THE WESCO SOUTH TITLE.

NOT EASY TO DO.

THE SOUTH WAS TOUGHER THAN THE NORTH THIS YEAR.

AND THEN HE WENT ON TO THE DISTRICT ONE TENNIS TOURNAMENT AND WAS THE DISTRICT ONE CHAMPION.

THAT DESERVES ITS OWN APPLAUSE.

IT'S VERY EXCITING.

TENNIS FOR US.

THE STATE TOURNAMENT IS IN THE SPRING AND SO STEVEN WILL GO DOWN TO STATE TENNIS IN THE SPRING AND REPRESENT EDMONDS-WOODWAY IN MAY.

HE'S CURRENTLY RANKED INSIDE THE TOP TEN FOR THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST USTA RANKINGS FOR 18 AND UNDER.

I KNOW HE WILL CONTINUE TO PLAY.

HE'S NOT SURE WHERE YET, BUT WHEREVER HE GOES, THEY'LL BE LUCKY TO HAVE HIM.

CONGRATULATIONS, STEVEN.

OKAY. WE HAVE A LOT OF SWIMMERS THIS YEAR, AND IT'S NO SURPRISE IF THERE WAS A RACE AT THE DISTRICT SWIM MEET WHERE IT FELT LIKE THE ENTIRE FINALS WAS ALL EDMONDS SCHOOL DISTRICT SWIMMERS, AND IT WAS JUST A REALLY POWERFUL MOMENT.

SO THIS 200 YARD MEDLEY RELAY TEAM, THEY COLLECTIVELY THEY RECEIVED FIRST TEAM ALL WESCO HONORS.

THEY ALSO WERE DISTRICT ONE CHAMPIONS, WHICH WAS A VERY BIG DEAL WITH RELAY.

IN ADDITION TO THEIR RELAY DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP, THEY ALSO HELPED EDMONDS-WOODWAY WHEN THE TEAM DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 1998. SO THAT WAS A REALLY EXCITING MOMENT.

THEY WENT DOWN TO THE STATE MEET TOGETHER, AND THEY FINISHED A SIXTH IN STATE IN THE 200 MEDLEY RELAY AND HELPED THEIR TEAM TO A 13TH PLACE FINISH OVERALL.

THEY THIS TEAM? YOU GUYS SWAM TOGETHER LAST YEAR.

THEY BROKE THE SCHOOL RECORD LAST YEAR.

THAT HAD NOT BEEN BROKEN IN 25 YEARS AND THEN THIS YEAR THEY BROKE THEIR OWN RECORD FROM LAST YEAR.

SO I THINK IT JUST SAYS A LOT ABOUT THEM THAT THEY BROKE A 25 YEAR OLD SCHOOL RECORD, AND THEY CAME BACK THE NEXT YEAR AND DID THE SAME THING AGAIN.

THEY BEAT THEIR OWN RECORD.

IT JUST SAYS A LOT ABOUT THEM THAT HOW MUCH YOU GUYS PUSHED YOURSELVES TO DO THAT? TATUM, MADISON AND SYDNEY ALL QUALIFIED FOR STATE IN INDIVIDUAL EVENTS AND THEN SIMONE, RAISE YOUR HAND.

SIMONE, AS A SENIOR, SHE RECEIVED FIRST TEAM ALL WESCO HONORS IN THE 100 BACK.

SHE ALSO BROKE HER OWN SCHOOL RECORD IN THE BACKSTROKE AND WILL FINISH HER HIGH SCHOOL CAREER AS A THREE TIME INDIVIDUAL DISTRICT CHAMPION.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE ENTIRE TEAM.

OKAY, YOU GUYS CAN STEP BACK AND I'LL TAKE ALL MY LYNNWOOD HIGH PEOPLE BECCA COATES.

LYNNWOOD HIGH SWIM TRISTAN VISTA.

LYNNWOOD HIGH SCHOOL TENNIS AND SAMMY HOMER.

LYNNWOOD HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL.

SO I'M GOING TO START WITH BECCA.

[00:10:03]

I KNOW THAT EYE ROLL MEANT YOU WERE REALLY EXCITED TO GO FIRST.

SO YOU KNOW, WE'VE WATCHED BECCA SWIM FOR A LONG TIME.

SHE'S SUPER IMPRESSIVE IN THE POOL.

SHE RECEIVED SECOND TEAM ALL WESCO HONORS IN THE 100 BREASTSTROKE.

AND ALSO IN THE 200 INDIVIDUAL MEDLEY.

SHE QUALIFIED FOR STATE FOR THE SECOND YEAR IN A ROW THIS YEAR AND THEN SHE QUALIFIED AND THEN SHE COMPETED AT STATE THIS YEAR IN THE 200 IM AND THE 100 BREASTSTROKE.

LIKE MANY OF HER PEERS UP HERE, SHE HOLDS THE LYNNWOOD HIGH SCHOOL RECORD.

SHE'S A SCHOOL RECORD HOLDER IN THE 100 BREASTSTROKE.

SHE BROKE IT THIS YEAR IN DRAMATIC FASHION IN THE SECOND DAY OF THE DISTRICT SWIM MEET AND A STATE QUALIFYING RACE.

SHE BROKE LINWOOD HIGH SCHOOL SCHOOL RECORD IN THE 100 BREAST, WHICH WAS REALLY EXCITING.

SHE'S A TALENTED SWIMMER WHO'S HAD A HUGE FORCE ON THE LYNNWOOD SWIM TEAM, AND I KNOW THAT THEY WILL MISS HER GREATLY.

CONGRATULATIONS, BECCA AND THEN TRISTAN'S OUR LONE TENNIS PLAYER FROM LYNNWOOD HIGH SCHOOL THIS YEAR. HE HAS PLAYED VARSITY TENNIS FOR THREE YEARS.

HE'S NUMBER ONE SINGLES THIS YEAR AS A SENIOR AND WAS A ROLE MODEL FOR ALL THE ATHLETES IN HIS PROGRAM AND COACH JOHN SAID THIS TODAY THAT IT WAS HIS WORK ETHIC AND HIS JUST HIS OVERCOMING ADVERSITY THAT MADE HIM A LEADER IN THE PROGRAM AND MADE EVERYONE AROUND HIM BETTER.

HE WAS NAMED MOST VALUABLE PLAYER BY HIS PEERS ON THE TENNIS TEAM, AND HE WORKED INCREDIBLY HARD TO GET BETTER EVERY SINGLE DAY, AND HIS GOAL WAS TO PURSUE PLAYING TENNIS AFTER HIGH SCHOOL, WHICH HE HAS ACHIEVED AND WILL PLAY TENNIS FOR BELLEVUE COLLEGE NEXT YEAR.

CONGRATULATIONS, TRISTAN.

AND THEN OUR LAST STUDENT ATHLETE TO DISCUSS TODAY IS SAMMY HOLMER FROM LYNNWOOD HIGH SCHOOL.

VOLLEYBALL. SAMMY RECEIVED FIRST TEAM ALL WESCO HONORS FOR THE SECOND YEAR IN A ROW.

SOME OF YOU MIGHT RECOGNIZE HER FROM LAST YEAR.

SHE WAS HERE WITH LYNNWOOD HIGH SCHOOL TEAM, AND THEN SHE PLAYED IN THE STATE VOLLEYBALL, THE VOLLEYBALL ALL STATE GAME LAST WEEKEND.

I COULD GO INTO DETAILED INDIVIDUAL STATS ABOUT SAMMY, BUT I THINK WHAT HER COACH SAID STANDS OUT THE MOST ABOUT HER IS THE IMPACT THAT SHE HAS HAD ON THE LYNNWOOD HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM IN THE FOUR YEARS THAT SHE'S BEEN THERE, IN THE FOUR YEARS SHE'S BEEN AT LYNNWOOD, THEY HAVE WON A WESCO CHAMPIONSHIP BACK TO BACK DISTRICT ONE TITLES, THREE STATE BERTHS, THREE TOP TEN FINISHES AT STATE, INCLUDING LAST YEAR'S THIRD IN STATE AND THEN THIS YEAR, AFTER LOSING MOST OF THE VARSITY STARTERS OFF OF LAST YEAR'S TEAM, PLACED EIGHTH IN STATE JUST A FEW WEEKS AGO.

SHE'S HUMBLE, HARD WORKING, TALENTED, NEVER GIVES LESS THAN HER BEST.

CARES SO MUCH ABOUT LYNNWOOD HIGH SCHOOL.

THAT COMMUNITY, HER TEAMMATES, HER COACHES, HER SCHOOL.

SHE HAS JUST LEFT A POWERFUL LEGACY OF WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE TO BE A TRUE STUDENT ATHLETE ON THE COURT.

SHE CARRIES HERSELF ON AND OFF THE COURT WITH AND GIVES EVERYTHING SHE HAS AND I KNOW THAT IT'S TOUGH.

I CAN SEE ANNALISE IS READY TO START CRYING NOW, AND I CAN'T IMAGINE WHAT SHE'LL BE LIKE AT YOUR BANQUET.

BUT THANK YOU.

ON BEHALF OF THE SCHOOL DISTRICT, THANKS FOR EVERYTHING YOU'VE GIVEN, SAMMY.

AND CONGRATULATIONS.

SO I WOULD JUST LIKE TO WRAP UP AND SAY THAT THESE STUDENT ATHLETES STARTED COMPETING IN AUGUST, AND THEN THEY JUST WRAPPED UP THEIR SEASONS.

IT'S A LONG HAUL AND QUITE A FEW OF THEM PLAY YEAR ROUND.

SO TO YOU, THE STUDENT ATHLETES.

CONGRATULATIONS ON WHAT YOU'VE GIVEN TO YOUR SCHOOLS AND YOUR COMMUNITY.

WE'RE NOW GOING TO LET YOU TAKE A PICTURE WITH THE SCHOOL BOARD.

OKAY. THERE YOU GO.

OKAY. YEAH.

[INAUDIBLE].

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OF YOU.

YOU'RE AMAZING AND YOU'RE WELCOME TO LEAVE.

BECAUSE IT IS A WEEKNIGHT AND YOU'RE STILL IN SCHOOL.

ANYBODY IS WELCOME TO STAY IF YOU WANTED TO, BUT YOU DON'T NEED TO.

[00:15:03]

OKAY. NEXT ON THE AGENDA IS THE SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT.

[7. SUPERINTENDENT REPORT-6:50 pm]

THANK YOU. DOCTOR KATIMS. I JUST WANTED TO BRIEFLY DISCUSS SOME OF YOU MAY BE AWARE OF OUR DECISION TO CANCEL THE PLAN KNOW YOUR RIGHTS EVENT THAT WAS SCHEDULED FOR DECEMBER 17TH. THAT EVENT WAS SCHEDULED WAS INTENDED TO PROVIDE CRUCIAL IMMIGRATION INFORMATION AND RESOURCES TO OUR FAMILIES.

THE DECISION TO CANCEL THE EVENT WAS MADE TO PRIORITIZE THE SAFETY AND WELL-BEING OF OUR FAMILIES, STAFF, AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS FOLLOWING THE EMERGENCE OF HARASSING AND THREATENING ONLINE COMMENTS REGARDING THE EVENT.

THE PURPOSE OF THE EVENT WAS TO PROVIDE FAMILIES WITH INFORMATION ABOUT THEIR RIGHTS IN THE FACE OF IMMIGRATION RELATED ACTIONS.

GUIDANCE ON PREPARING FAMILY PLANS IN CASE OF ARREST OR DETENTION, INCLUDING PLANNING FOR THE CARE OF CHILDREN AND ANSWER SCHOOL RELATED IMMIGRATION QUESTIONS.

THE EVENT WAS ORGANIZED WITH THE INTENT OF FOSTERING A SAFE, INFORMED AND SUPPORTIVE COMMUNITY FOR ALL.

THE EDMONDS SCHOOL DISTRICT REMAINS STEADFAST IN OUR COMMITMENT TO SERVE AND SUPPORT EVERY STUDENT AND FAMILY, REGARDLESS OF IMMIGRATION OR NATIONALITY STATUS.

FEDERAL LAW, WHICH WAS AFFIRMED BY THE U.S.

SUPREME COURT IN PLYLER V DOE, STATES THAT UNDOCUMENTED CHILDREN AND YOUNG ADULTS HAVE THE SAME RIGHT TO ATTEND PUBLIC SCHOOLS, AS DO U.S.

CITIZENS AND PERMANENT RESIDENTS.

IN ACCORDANCE WITH FEDERAL LAW, WE DO NOT COLLECT OR INQUIRE AS TO A STUDENT OR FAMILY'S IMMIGRATION STATUS OR TREAT STUDENTS FOR FAMILIES DIFFERENTLY BASED ON PERCEIVED IMMIGRATION STATUS.

OUR SCHOOLS ARE PLACES OF LEARNING, BELONGING AND SAFETY, AND THIS PRINCIPLE GUIDES EVERYTHING WE DO.

WHILE THIS SPECIFIC EVENT WILL NOT PROCEED AS PLANNED, WE ARE COMMITTED TO FINDING ALTERNATIVE WAYS TO SHARE CRITICAL INFORMATION WITH THOSE WHO NEED IT.

WE WILL COLLABORATE WITH COMMUNITY PARTNERS AND EXPLORE OTHER FORMATS TO ENSURE FAMILIES RECEIVE THE RESOURCES AND SUPPORT THEY REQUIRE IN A SAFE AND ACCESSIBLE MANNER.

OUR DISTRICT IS UNWAVERING IN OUR DEDICATION TO ENSURING ALL STUDENTS AND FAMILIES FEEL VALUED, RESPECTED AND SUPPORTED.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

[9. ANNUAL ORGANIZATION MEETING- 7:00 pm]

WE WILL NOW CONDUCT OUR ANNUAL ORGANIZATION MEETING.

IT IS THE POLICY OF THE EDMONDS SCHOOL DISTRICT THAT THE BOARD WILL SELECT FROM THE MEMBERS A PRESIDENT, VICE PRESIDENT AND A LEGISLATIVE REPRESENTATIVE ANNUALLY.

WE WILL BEGIN BY TAKING A CALL FOR NOMINATIONS FOR PRESIDENT TO SERVE FOR THE ENSUING YEAR.

KATIMS IS THE PRESIDENT.

IT'S WONDERFUL TO HAVE YOUR SUPPORT.

THANK YOU. NEXT, I WILL CALL FOR NOMINATIONS FOR OUR LEGISLATIVE REPRESENTATIVE.

I NOMINATE CARIN CHASE.

SECOND. CARIN CHASE IS NOMINATED.

ARE THERE ANY OTHER NOMINATIONS? HEARING NONE. I'LL CALL FOR A ROLL CALL VOTE TO CONFIRM KAREN CHASE AS BOARD LEGISLATIVE REPRESENTATIVE.

CONGRATULATIONS. LEGISLATIVE REPRESENTATIVE.

JASON, THANK YOU FOR BEING WILLING TO TAKE ON A DUAL ROLE FOR THE YEAR.

WE APPRECIATE IT AND AGAIN, I REALLY DO APPRECIATE THE SUPPORT OF THE BOARD IN THIS, AND I DO LOOK FORWARD TO WORKING WITH THE STUDENTS AND ALL THE BOARD SO THAT WE ALL YES, MY ROLE AS LEGISLATIVE REP, BUT WE ALL KNOW THE ROLE AND CAN ALL STEP IN TO ADVOCATE FOR OUR COMMUNITY.

NO, WE APPRECIATE IT.

YOU'RE VERY GOOD AT WHAT YOU DO.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

OKAY. NEXT WE HAVE PUBLIC COMMENTS.

[10. PUBLIC COMMENTS-7:15 pm]

THE GUIDELINES REGARDING THE PUBLIC COMMENTS ARE ON THE DISTRICT WEBSITE ON EACH BOARD MEETING AGENDA AND THERE'S A COPY ON THE TABLE WHERE PEOPLE SIGN IN TO MAKE A COMMENT.

WE ASK THAT YOU LIMIT YOUR COMMENT TO THREE MINUTES.

A TIMER WILL BE RUNNING SO THAT YOU CAN MONITOR YOUR TIME.

PLEASE BE SURE TO TELL US YOUR NAME, YOUR CITY OF RESIDENCE, YOUR RELATIONSHIP TO THE DISTRICT, AND THE AGENDA ITEM OR SCHOOL DISTRICT TOPIC THAT YOU'RE ADDRESSING TONIGHT.

PUBLIC COMMENTS ARE MADE FROM THIS FRONT PODIUM FACING US.

SO WE HAVE ONE PERSON SIGNED UP.

[INAUDIBLE]. HELEN BLAISE.

EXCUSE ME. HELEN PLAYS LYNNWOOD, AND IT'S ABOUT, WHAT ELSE WAS I SUPPOSED TO SAY? YOUR NAME, WHICH YOU DID AND WHERE YOU'RE FROM AND THE TOPIC THAT YOU'RE ADDRESSING TONIGHT.

IT'S ABOUT THINGS I'VE BEEN HEARING FROM FRIENDS AND COLLEAGUES.

I'M NEW IN THE AREA.

OKAY. SO THANK YOU FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO GIVE PUBLIC COMMENT.

IT'S MY FIRST TIME HERE AND I'M CURIOUS TO SEE WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT.

AS I SAID, I'VE BEEN HEARING FROM FRIENDS AND COLLEAGUES ABOUT SOME TOPICS WHICH AFFECT SCHOOL AGED CHILDREN.

SO TO SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT, SCHOOLS AND TEACHERS AND SCHOOL BOARDS ALL KNOW MORE AND NO BETTER FOR THE CHILDREN THAN THE PARENTS. EVERYBODY KNOWS THAT, RIGHT? AND KEEPING WITH THAT FACT, WE ALL KNOW THAT IT'S OKAY FOR CHILDREN TO KEEP SECRETS FROM THEIR PARENTS.

BUT WHAT SECRETS WOULD I BE REFERRING TO, 1ST MAY ASK? WELL, OF COURSE, SECRETS ABOUT CHANGING CLOTHES AT SCHOOL FROM BOYS TO GIRLS CLOTHES AND VICE VERSA.

GIRLS CHANGING TO BOYS CLOTHES AND CHANGING NAMES WITHOUT LETTING THE PARENTS KNOW.

I APPRECIATE THAT FLEXIBILITY AND SUPPORT BY THE TEACHERS IN THE SCHOOLS AND THE OSPI.

MR. RECTAL.

I NEVER SAY HIS NAME RIGHT.

I HEARD THAT HE TOLD THE SCHOOL BOARDS ALL ACROSS THE STATE TO NEVER MIND ABOUT THE PARENTS RIGHTS LAW.

WHY WOULD THE PARENTS RIGHTS NEED A LAW ANYWAY? OF COURSE, WHAT GOES HAND IN HAND WITH THIS IS THE USE OF THE NEW IDEA OF DIFFERENT GENDER PRONOUNS.

I LOVE NEW CREATIVE IDEAS THAT ACCEPTANCE AND ENCOURAGEMENT THAT BOYS CAN BE GIRLS SHE HER AND GIRLS CAN BE BOYS.

[00:25:07]

HE HIM. IT'S ALL COMES DOWN TO IDENTITY, NOT BIOLOGY.

FEELINGS AND WHAT A CHILD IDENTIFIES AS IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN SCIENCE AND I JUST LOVE HOW THE RAINBOW HAS BECOME A SYMBOL SOON IN EVERY CLASSROOM TO REPRESENT A NEW PROMISE FOR THE REQUIREMENT TO ACCEPT AND EVEN LOVE THE GENDER NEUTRAL AND THE MARGINALIZATION OF THE 1% OF OUR POPULATION.

HOW KIND AND LOVING THAT IS AND I'M NOT FORGETTING THE VALUE OF TEACHING SEX ED TO KINDERGARTNERS AND YOUNG ELEMENTARY CHILDREN.

GET THEM YOUNG AND THEY WILL NOT STRAY OR QUESTION THE AGE APPROPRIATENESS.

WELL, SO MUCH FOR SCIENCE.

NOW TO HISTORY FROM PROJECT 1619.

EVERYONE RECOGNIZED THAT WHITE AMERICAN CHILDREN SHOULD LEARN TO BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES FOR BEING RACIST IN A COUNTRY BUILT ON SLAVERY, INSTEAD OF BUILT BY THE HARD-WORKING PIONEERS, THE FIRST AND SECOND GENERATION IMMIGRANTS OF THE EARLY DAYS AND BY THE MIDDLE CLASS.

WHAT ABOUT THE PEOPLE WHO IMMIGRATED HERE FOR RELIGIOUS FREEDOM, WHOM EVERYONE KNOWS.

RELIGIOUS PEOPLE ARE BIGOTED AND NARROW MINDED AND HATEFUL.

THERE OUGHT TO BE AN ANTI-HATE LAW.

OUR WONDERFUL NEW GOVERNOR WILL SEE TO THAT.

SPEAKING TO GOVERNING.

THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD DETERMINE WHAT THE CHILDREN LEARN AND JUSTICE.

WHAT A CREATIVE IDEA.

THAT IT ISN'T JUST A LEGAL TERM, BUT IT'S A SOCIAL TERM.

THANK YOU, MISS BLAISE.

EVERYBODY KNOWS THAT'S IMPORTANT TO HAVE AN OFFICE OF SOCIAL INJUSTICE.

SO EVERY TAXPAYER SHOULD BE HAPPY TO PAY MORE AND MORE TAXES FOR [INAUDIBLE].

THANK YOU. THANK YOU FOR THIS TIME.

NEXT ON THE AGENDA IS OUR CONSENT AGENDA.

[11. CONSENT AGENDA-7:45 pm]

THIS IS THE GROUP OF RELATIVELY ROUTINE ITEMS THAT WE CAN VOTE ON AS A BLOCK, DISCUSS INDIVIDUALLY AND OR VOTE ON SEPARATELY IF WE CHOOSE.

TONIGHT'S CONSENT AGENDA CONSISTS OF 15 ITEMS. THREE ARE PERSONNEL AND STAFF AGREEMENTS, THREE ARE INTERLOCAL AGREEMENTS, ONE FOR COLLEGE IN THE HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM, AND TWO FOR ORGANIZATIONS PROVIDING SPECIAL ED SERVICES.

ONE IS OUR ANNUAL CTE UPDATE FOR THE STATE.

ONE IS THE AGREEMENT WITH BETWEEN THE DISTRICT AND THE EDMONDS POLICE DEPARTMENT RELATED TO SECURITY ACCESS AND SEVEN ARE FIELD TRIPS.

DO I HEAR A MOTION AND A SECOND TO APPROVE TONIGHT'S CONSENT AGENDA? MOVE TO APPROVE.

A SECOND. I'VE HEARD A MOTION TO APPROVE.

AND A SECOND. IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION? JUST ONE NOTE THAT WE DID MAKE A CHANGE TO THE PERSONNEL REPORT.

THANK YOU TO DOCTOR KATIMS THAT WE HAD A STAFF MEMBER LISTED AS BOTH A RESIGNATION AND A RETIREMENT.

WE HAVE, CORRECTLY REMOVED THEM FROM THE RESIGNATION SECTION AND LEFT THEM IN THE CORRECT CATEGORY OF RETIREMENT.

THANK YOU.

I BELIEVE YOU STATED THERE WERE 15 ITEMS, BUT I THE WAY THEY ARE NUMBERED, THEY GO TO 16.

IT'S BECAUSE IF YOU NOTICE, THE FIRST ONE IS SIMPLY THE OVERALL.

IT'S A PROCEDURAL ITEM.

THANK YOU FOR THE TECHNICAL.

THANK YOU. ANY OTHER COMMENTS? JUST WANTED.

FIRST OFF, I WILL SAY TO ALL OF OUR STUDENT ATHLETES AND CLUBS THAT GET TO GO ON FIELD TRIPS.

I'M VERY EXCITED FOR ALL OF YOU.

BUT I DO WANT TO POINT OUT SPECIFICALLY BEING A MOUNTLAKE TERRACE GRAD, THAT THE GIRLS SOCCER TEAM HAS ALREADY GONE TO STATE, BUT THEY MADE IT THAT FAR AND SO VERY EXCITED FOR THEM AND THE JAZZ ENSEMBLE, IT APPEARS, IS GOING TO DO A FIELD TRIP THIS SUMMER AND I'M ALWAYS EXCITED BECAUSE I KNOW TERRACE HAS QUITE THE JAZZ PROGRAM.

ANYTHING ELSE ABOUT THE CONSENT AGENDA? HEARING NONE, I'LL CALL FOR A VOTE.

ALL THOSE IN FAVOR OF APPROVING TONIGHT'S CONSENT AGENDA AS PRESENTED AND CORRECTED.

PLEASE INDICATE BY SAYING AYE.

AYE. ALL THOSE OPPOSED SAY NAY.

ANY ABSTENTIONS? AND TONIGHT'S CONSENT AGENDA IS APPROVED.

[00:30:03]

AND A SECOND. IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION? HEARING? NONE. I'LL CALL FOR A ROLL CALL VOTE.

AND THE REVISED BOARD POLICY 3241 ON STUDENT DISCIPLINE IS APPROVED.

THE SECOND ITEM IS 12.2.

A SECOND READING TO APPROVE REVISED BOARD POLICY.

6959 ACCEPTANCE OF COMPLETED PROJECT AND THERE WERE NO CHANGES MADE BETWEEN THE FIRST AND SECOND READING.

I MOVE TO ADOPT THE NEW POLICY 6959.

SECOND. I'VE HEARD A MOTION TO APPROVE.

AND A SECOND. IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION? HEARING NONE. I'LL CALL FOR A ROLL CALL VOTE.

AND THE REVISED BOARD POLICY 6959.

ACCEPTANCE OF THE COMPLETED PROJECT IS APPROVED.

THE FINAL ITEM OF UNFINISHED BUSINESS THIS EVENING IS ITEM 12.3, A SECOND READING TO APPROVE A REVISED BOARD POLICY.

5005 EMPLOYMENT DISCLOSURES, CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS, ASSURANCES AND APPROVAL.

THERE WERE NO CHANGES MADE BETWEEN THE FIRST AND SECOND READING.

THANK YOU.

DO I HEAR A MOTION AND A SECOND TO APPROVE THE REVISED BOARD POLICY? 5005 ABOUT EMPLOYMENT DISCLOSURES, CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS, ASSURANCES, AND APPROVAL.

MOVE TO APPROVE. SECOND.

I'VE HEARD A MOTION TO APPROVE AND A SECOND.

IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION? I JUST WANTED TO SAY, I THINK IT'S A WISE MOVE TO REQUIRE FINGERPRINTING FOR THROUGH THE FBI, FOR VOLUNTEERS WORKING REGULARLY WITH STUDENTS IN AN UNSUPERVISED ENVIRONMENT.

ABSOLUTELY. ANY OTHER COMMENTS? THANK YOU. HEARING NONE, I'LL CALL FOR A ROLL CALL VOTE.

AND REVISE BOARD POLICY 5005 ON EMPLOYMENT DISCLOSURES.

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS, ASSURANCES AND APPROVAL IS APPROVED.

THERE ARE NINE ITEMS OF NEW BUSINESS THIS EVENING.

[13. NEW BUSINESS- 8:10 pm]

THE FIRST IS 13.1, A SINGLE READING TO APPROVE THE CITY OF LYNNWOOD AQUATIC CENTER INTERLOCAL AGREEMENT.

WE'VE HAD AN INTERLOCAL AGREEMENT WITH THE CITY OF LINWOOD FOR MANY YEARS, SINCE AT LEAST 2011, TO ALLOW FOR USE OF THE AQUATIC FACILITY.

WE'VE CLEANED IT UP A BIT TO REMOVE THE USE OF THE OLD CEDAR VALLEY GYMNASIUM AND SOME OTHER SMALL CHANGES.

THANK YOU. DO I HEAR A MOTION AND A SECOND TO APPROVE THE CITY OF LYNNWOOD AQUATIC CENTER INTERLOCAL AGREEMENT? I'LL MOVE TO APPROVE. SECOND.

I'VE HEARD A MOTION TO APPROVE AND A SECOND.

IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION? WE HAVE A LOT OF GREAT SWIMMERS IN THIS DISTRICT.

WE OUGHT TO SUPPORT THEM.

I LOVE SEEING SORT OF THE QUID PRO QUO THAT WE LET THEM USE SOME OF OUR FACILITIES, AND THEY LET US USE THIS.

I THINK THAT'S THE KIND OF COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS THAT HELP TO MAKE OUR COMMUNITY STRONG.

ANY OTHER COMMENTS? HEARING NONE. I'LL CALL FOR A ROLL CALL VOTE.

AGREEMENT IS APPROVED.

ITEM 13.2 IS A SINGLE READING APPROVAL OF CONTRACT AWARD TO NORTH COAST ELECTRIC FOR THE SECONDARY LED LIGHTING PROJECTS FUNDED OUT OF THE 2024 BOND.

DO I HEAR A MOTION AND A SECOND TO APPROVE THE CONTRACT AWARD TO THE NORTH COAST ELECTRIC FOR THE SECONDARY LED LIGHTING PROJECT? MOVE TO APPROVE.

SECOND. I'VE HEARD A MOTION TO APPROVE AND A SECOND.

IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION? I'D LIKE TO JUST SAY THANK YOU TO THE VOTERS WHO APPROVED THE 2024 BOND, SO WE COULD DO THIS APPROPRIATE KIND OF LIGHTING THAT NEEDS TO BE DONE.

ANYTHING ELSE? I THINK ANYTHING WE DO TO REDUCE OUR ENERGY USAGE AND OUR ENERGY OR UTILITY BILLS IS A GOOD MOVE.

HEARING NO FURTHER DISCUSSION, I'LL CALL FOR A ROLL CALL VOTE.

AND THE CONTRACT AWARD TO NORTH COAST ELECTRIC FOR THE SECONDARY LED LIGHTING PROJECT IS APPROVED.

ITEM 13.3 IS A SINGLE READING TO APPROVE CONTRACT AWARD TO SECURITY SOLUTIONS FOR PURCHASE AND INSTALLATION OF GATE AND DOOR CONTROLLERS FUNDED OUT OF THE 2020 LEVY.

DO I HEAR A MOTION IN A SECOND TO APPROVE THE CONTRACT AWARD TO SECURITY SOLUTIONS FOR THE PURCHASE AND INSTALLATION OF GATE AND DOOR CONTROLLERS.

[00:35:10]

MOVE TO APPROVE. SECOND.

I HAVE HEARD A MOTION TO APPROVE AND A SECOND.

IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION? I'M JUST CURIOUS BECAUSE WHEN I LOOKED AT THIS, IT DOESN'T HAVE ANY SPECIFICITY IN IT.

COULD YOU LIKE IS DO YOU KNOW THE SPECIFIC SCHOOLS THAT ARE GETTING THE.

CAN YOU JUST GIVE ME A PLAIN ENGLISH KIND OF WHAT WE'RE GETTING OUT OF IT? I DON'T KNOW THAT.

EXCUSE ME. I DON'T KNOW WHICH SCHOOLS ARE GETTING THE EXTERIOR GATES AND DOORS.

MAYBE GREG KNOWS THE SPECIFICS OF WHICH ONES IT IS.

WE ARE PREPARING A REPORT FOR THE BOARD ON EXACTLY WHERE WE STAND WITH ALL OF OUR LIGHTING UPGRADES, AS WELL AS ALL OF OUR ACCESS CONTROLS, ETC., WHICH WE'LL BE GIVING TO THE BOARD, BUT I DON'T.

GREG, SEVERAL OF OUR SCHOOLS HAVE RECEIVED NEW FENCING.

MEADOWDALE HIGH SCHOOL AND SEVERAL OF OUR OTHER ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS AND SO IN EACH OF THOSE PROJECTS, WE'RE NOW GOING BACK THROUGH AND RETROFITTING THEM WITH A GATE.

WITH THE GATE CONTROLLERS THAT WILL BE CONTROLLED BY ACCESS CONTROLS AS WELL.

WE'RE GOING THROUGH AND UPGRADING ACCESS CONTROLS AT SEVERAL OF OUR BUILDINGS.

THE SCRIBER LAKE CAMPUS IS ONE OF THE CAMPUSES.

BRIER ELEMENTARY.

SEVERAL SCHOOLS THIS FALL RECEIVED DOOR ACCESS CONTROL UPGRADES AS WELL, SO IT'S A WIDESPREAD ACROSS THE DISTRICT IN TERMS OF PROJECTS AND IT'S A PRIMARILY A SECURITY THING, PRIMARILY A SECURITY MEASURE. PERFECT.

THANK YOU. YEP. THANK YOU.

ANY OTHER COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS? I GUESS I DO HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT IT.

JUST WONDERING ABOUT THE DOOR CONTROLLERS.

IS THAT IN LIEU OF HAVING A LOCK ON THE DOOR OR.

I MEAN, I'M SORRY, THAT YOU ARE.

I JUST WANT TO HAVE A CLARITY.

IS THIS JUST A LITTLE EXTRA EXERCISE FOR YOU GETTING MY STEPS IN TONIGHT? YES. WE'RE REPLACING ALL OF OUR KEYED ACCESS WITH THE FOB ACCESS, IT'S MUCH MORE RELIABLE AND GIVEN THE THE NUMBER OF KEYS THAT HAVE BEEN HANDED OUT OVER THE YEARS, IT'S A LITTLE BIT DIFFICULT TO ENSURE SECURITY OF OUR BUILDINGS, SO THIS WILL ALLOW US.

WE'VE ACTUALLY TRANSITIONED TO A BRAND NEW FOB SYSTEM AS WELL, WHICH WILL ALLOW US A MUCH HIGHER LEVEL OF ACCESS AND SECURITY AND CONTROL FOR OUR BUILDINGS AND WE'VE HAD PREVIOUSLY. SO. GREAT.

THANK YOU FOR THE CLARIFICATION.

YOU BET AND I'LL WAIT FOR MY NEXT QUESTION UNTIL YOU SIT DOWN.

I'LL WAIT JUST FOR A MOMENT AND THEN ASK IF THERE ARE MORE QUESTIONS.

ANY OTHER QUESTIONS AND COMMENTS? I LOVE HEARING THAT WE'RE CONTINUING, AND AS ALWAYS, TO KEEP OUR SECURITY AS UP TO DATE AS POSSIBLE AND AGAIN, THANKING THE VOTERS WHO VOTED FOR THE 2020 LEVY IN THIS CASE.

SO WE'RE ABLE TO CONTINUE TO DO THAT KIND OF IMPORTANT WORK.

HEARING NO FURTHER DISCUSSION, I'LL CALL FOR A ROLL CALL VOTE.

SECURITY SOLUTIONS FOR THE PURCHASE AND INSTALLATION OF GATE AND DOOR CONTROLLERS IS APPROVED.

ITEM 13.4 IS A SINGLE READING TO APPROVE RESOLUTION NUMBER 2427 ACCEPTANCE OF COMPLETED PUBLIC WORKS CONTRACT NUMBER Q 2302 CP FOR EMERGENCY REMEDIATION AND RESTORATION FROM WATER DAMAGE AT MEADOWDALE ELEMENTARY.

THAT HAPPENED AS A RESULT OF THE FREEZE, AS YOU RECALL.

DO I HEAR A MOTION IN A SECOND TO APPROVE RESOLUTION NUMBER 24- 27.

I'LL MOVE TO APPROVE SECOND.

I'VE HEARD A MOTION TO APPROVE AND A SECOND.

IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION? THIS MAY BE MY LAST CHANCE TO, JUST ONE MORE THANK YOU TO EVERYBODY AT MEADOWDALE ELEMENTARY FOR ALL THE HARD WORK YOU DID DURING THAT.

I KNOW IT WAS A HERCULEAN TASK TO UNDERTAKE, SO THANK YOU FOR BEING GOOD SPORTS.

ABOUT THAT. I GUESS IS THE BEST THING I CAN SAY.

LIKE, YOU REALLY WORKED HARD AND YOU MADE SURE STUDENTS GOT BACK IN CLASS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

SO THANK YOU. ANY OTHER COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS? HEARING NONE. I'LL CALL FOR A ROLL CALL VOTE.

2427. THE ACCEPTANCE OF COMPLETED PUBLIC WORKS.

CONTRACT NUMBER Q 2302-02 FOR EMERGENCY REMEDIATION AND RESTORATION FROM WATER DAMAGE AT MEADOWDALE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IS APPROVED.

THE NEXT ITEM IS 13.5, A SINGLE READING TO APPROVE SCHOOL BOARD LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES FOR 2025.

THOUGH THIS IS A SINGLE READING, WE DID DISCUSS THIS AND THANK YOU TO THE BOARD FOR YOUR INPUT.

MADE SOME SLIGHT CHANGES.

WE DISCUSSED IT DURING THE LEDGE REPORT AT THE LAST BOARD MEETING.

DO I HEAR A MOTION AND A SECOND TO APPROVE THE SCHOOL BOARD LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES FOR 2025? MOVE TO APPROVE. SECOND.

I'VE HEARD A MOTION TO APPROVE.

AND A SECOND. IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION? JUST THAT I APPRECIATE THE THOUGHT THAT WENT INTO THIS, THE COLLABORATION THAT WENT INTO THIS, THE BROAD OUTREACH FOR INPUT THAT WENT

[00:40:07]

INTO THIS, AND ALSO YOUR LEADERSHIP CARIN.

THANK YOU. I WANT TO SECOND THE APPRECIATION FOR DIRECTOR CHASE AND THE WORK THAT YOU'VE DONE AND I ALSO LIKE THAT OUR PRIORITIES ARE VERY MUCH IN SYNC WITH WHAT WAS DONE AND I DON'T KNOW IF BA HAS COME OUT WITH THEM, BUT THE OTHER BIG ORGANIZATIONS, WASA AND UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON STUDY THAT THESE ARE ALL IN SYNC, BUT THEY REALLY REFLECT US AT THE SAME TIME AS TO WHAT'S MOST IMPORTANT FOR US AND I APPRECIATE THE THE ACCOLADES, BUT IT DOES TAKE A VILLAGE.

THERE'S A LARGE TEAM THAT WAS INVOLVED IN THIS.

SO YES, WE KNOW DISTRICT STAFF WAS ALSO IN PARTICULAR CALLING OUT CURTIS CAMPBELL, DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS, WHO PUT THIS TOGETHER IN A WAY, IF I HAD PUT IT TOGETHER, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A BLANK PIECE OF PAPER WITH SOME BULLET POINTS, BUT I KNOW IT DOES A NICE JOB OF MAKING IT MORE VISUALLY PALATABLE FOR THOSE WHO MIGHT BE.

IT IS VERY MUCH WELL DONE.

ANY OTHER COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS? HEARING NONE. I'LL CALL FOR A ROLL CALL VOTE.

ARE APPROVED.

THE FINAL FOUR ITEMS ARE NOT REQUESTING ACTION THIS EVENING.

THEY'RE ALL FIRST READING. SO THE FIRST 13.6 IS A FIRST READING.

NO ACTION REQUESTED THIS EVENING TO REVIEW A REVISED BOARD POLICY.

3115 STUDENTS EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS ENROLLMENT RIGHTS AND SERVICES.

THE PROPOSED CHANGES ARE IN THIS POLICY ARE TO BRING US IN LINE WITH THE WAS THE RECOMMENDED CHANGES.

THE LAST POLICY UPDATE WAS IN 2019.

YOU CAN SEE THAT THERE'S SOME WORDING CHANGES SUCH AS CHANGING HOMELESS STUDENTS TO STUDENTS EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS.

REMOVING AN EDITOR'S NOTE THAT WAS ORIGINALLY LEFT IN THE ORIGINAL POLICY, AND THEN THE ADDITION OF A BULLET POINT, AS YOU CAN SEE.

THANK YOU. IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION OR QUESTIONS? SO I KNOW WE'RE TRYING TO CHANGE THE LANGUAGE IN THIS.

I COUNTED ABOUT, I REREAD IT, AND I COUNTED ABOUT EIGHT TIMES WHEN IT STILL SAYS HOMELESS STUDENT.

SOMETIMES IT'S HOMELESS STUDENT LIAISON, BUT I THINK THERE'S SOME MORE PLACES WHERE IT NEEDS TO BE CHANGED.

YEAH, WE DO REFER TO.

I MEAN, WE COULD PERHAPS CHANGE THAT TO MAKE KENNY VENTO LIAISON.

I THINK THAT TO SAY THE DISTRICT'S STUDENTS EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS LIAISON IS ACTUALLY SLIGHTLY CONFUSING.

SO WE COULD CHANGE THAT TO MCKINNEY-VENTO LIAISON.

LIAISON FOR STUDENTS EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS.

LIAISON FOR STUDENTS.

BUT THEY ALSO I MEAN, THAT'S A SPECIFIC REQUIREMENT OF THE STATE THAT WE NEED TO HAVE A POSITION FILLED THERE.

SO LET ME JUST DO A LITTLE BIT OF WONDERING IF WE CAN DO A LITTLE BIT OF I MEAN, WE COULD CALL THEM THE MCKINNEY-VENTO COORDINATOR OR SOMETHING MORE SPECIFIC.

WE CAN DOUBLE CHECK THAT.

OKAY. THANK YOU. OTHER COMMENTS.

QUESTIONS? OKAY.

THANK YOU. THE NEXT ONE IS A FIRST READING.

NO ACTION REQUESTED FOR REVISED TO REVIEW REVISED BOARD POLICY 50/50 CONTRACTS.

WE ARE AGAIN RECOMMENDING REVISIONS TO THIS POLICY THAT LARGELY ALIGN WITH WSSDA'S MODEL.

POLICY UPDATE ANY DISCUSSION.

I THINK IT WAS PRETTY STRAIGHTFORWARD.

OKAY. WE'LL BRING THAT FORWARD TO YOU FOR THE NEXT TIME IN JANUARY.

13.8 IS A FIRST READING, NO ACTION REVIEW, REVISED BOARD POLICY 5612 TEMPORARY ADMINISTRATORS.

WE ARE THE MOST SUBSTANTIVE CHANGES.

THIS IS THAT WE'RE DIRECTING RETIRED ADMINISTRATORS TO POLICY 5001 HIRING OF RETIRED SCHOOL EMPLOYEES, RATHER THAN DUPLICATING IT HERE, SO THAT IF THERE ARE CHANGES TO THAT LEGISLATION, WHICH HAPPENS WITH SOME REGULARITY, WE DON'T HAVE TO CHANGE IT IN TWO PLACES.

THAT MAKES SENSE. ANY DISCUSSION OR QUESTIONS? I'D LIKE TO SAY I APPRECIATE THOSE WHO ARE WILLING TO TAKE OVER THE ROLE OF TEMPORARY ADMINISTRATOR WHEN IT HAS TO HAPPEN.

YES, WE DO TOO AND 13.9 IS A FIRST READING.

NO ACTION REQUESTED A REVISED BOARD POLICY 2410 HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS.

IT'S BEEN REVISED TO INCLUDE GRADUATION FOR STUDENTS ACCORDING TO STATE LAW, AND WE'VE ALSO UPDATED LEGAL REFERENCES TO ENSURE COMPLIANCE.

ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS?

[00:45:03]

OKAY. THANK YOU.

WE'LL HAVE A BATCH OF FOUR POLICIES READY FOR YOU FOR A SECOND READING, WITH POSSIBLY SOME CHANGES TO HOMELESSNESS BETWEEN NOW AND THEN.

THAT'S OUR HOLIDAY GIFT, RIGHT? THAT'S RIGHT. YEAH.

NEXT WE HAVE OUR LEGISLATIVE UPDATE FROM OUR NEWLY ELECTED LEGISLATIVE REPRESENTATIVE.

[14. LEGISLATIVE UPDATES]

THANK YOU SO MUCH.

IT IS MY HONOR AS A NEWLY ELECTED REPRESENTATIVE.

I DON'T HAVE MUCH TO SAY SO.

WELL, ACTUALLY, I DO HAVE A LOT TO SAY.

WE DID. WE STARTED OUR LEGISLATIVE REPRESENTATIVE NETWORK.

THEY HAVE STARTED MEETING LAST WEEK.

YEAH. IT WAS JUST LAST WEEK TO REVIEW THE CUT OFF CALENDAR.

WE AS A REMINDER, THE LEGISLATIVE SESSION STARTS JANUARY 13TH AND IT GOES TO APRIL 27TH.

WE HAD A LOVELY PRESENTATION BY DIRECTOR KATIMS, WHICH I'LL ALLOW.

I'LL LET HER TALK ABOUT IT, BECAUSE IT WAS REALLY INFORMATIVE ABOUT HOW WE CAN INCREASE OUR EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES FOR OUR LEGISLATORS.

SO RIGHT NOW WE ARE LOOKING AT PREP.

THERE'S GOING TO BE A LOT OF BILLS PRE FILED.

WE KNOW THAT REPRESENTATIVE APRIL BERG IS FILING A BILL ON THE MATERIAL AND OPERATING MATERIALS SUPPLIES, MATERIAL SUPPLIES AND OPERATING COSTS, WHICH HAS BEEN REALLY SEVERELY IMPACTING OUR DISTRICT AND LOOK FORWARD TO LEARNING MORE ABOUT THAT AND SHARING SOME INFORMATION ON THAT.

DIRECTOR KATIMS, DO YOU WANT TO TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR PRESENTATION? SURE. SO AS YOU KNOW, WE DID THE TOWN HALL ON THE FUNDING CRISIS WITH OUR LEGISLATORS.

AND ONE OF THE SORT OF REPEATING COMMENTS FROM SOME OF THE LEGISLATORS WAS, OKAY, THERE CONVERTS THERE.

THEY GET IT.

BUT THERE'S ONLY IN THIS CASE, NINE OF THEM AND THERE'S HUNDREDS OF THE OTHERS AND THIS NEEDS TO BE DONE ACROSS THE STATE.

SO I COLLABORATED WITH MARISSA RATHBONE, WHO'S THE WHAT AM I TRYING TO SAY? THE ADVOCACY.

WHAT, I DON'T KNOW, DIRECTOR, YOU KNOW, STRATEGIC ADVOCACY DIRECTOR FOR WSSDA, FOR THE WASHINGTON STATE SCHOOL DIRECTORS ASSOCIATION.

AND SHE ASKED IF I COULD DO A PRESENTATION FOR ALL THE LEDGE REPS ACROSS THE STATE ON HOW WE WENT ABOUT DOING THE TOWN HALL, KNOWING THERE'S NOT MUCH TIME OR PROBABLY ENOUGH TIME BETWEEN NOW AND THE LEGISLATIVE SESSION TO ACTUALLY DO IT, BUT FOR THE FUTURE, BECAUSE UNFORTUNATELY, WE DON'T THINK WE'LL GET EVERYTHING WE WANT AND THIS IS SOMETHING THAT AS WE WANT TO ADVOCATE.

SO AND AGAIN, THIS WAS A TEAM EFFORT I JUST TOOK WHAT THE PLANNING COMMITTEE HAD DONE AND PUT IT TOGETHER IN A PRESENTATION AND IT WAS A REALLY GOOD DISCUSSION ABOUT WHAT SHOULD FOLLOW UP FROM THIS.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE NEXT STEPS IN TERMS OF ADVOCACY? AND WHAT'S REALLY NICE IS THERE'S A GROUP OF PARENT LEADERS IN BLAINE SCHOOL DISTRICT WHO HAD GOTTEN WIND OF OUR LETTER THAT WE HAD SENT LAST YEAR TO ALL OF THE LEGISLATORS AND SO SHE'S BEEN IN CONTACT WITH ME, ONE OF THEM, AND NOW THEY'VE ACTUALLY BEEN ABLE TO SCHEDULE A TOWN HALL.

THEY'RE USING OUR GUIDE.

THEY'VE SCHEDULED A TOWN HALL BEFORE THE LEGISLATIVE SESSION AND GOTTEN COMMITMENT FROM THEIR LEGISLATORS, WHICH I THINK THEY HAVE THREE, AND THEY'RE COLLABORATING WITH A FEW OTHER DISTRICTS AND THESE ARE PARENT LEADERS.

I'M SO PROUD OF THEM.

IT'S JUST WONDERFUL BECAUSE THERE'S SO MUCH WORK THAT GOES INTO THIS, AND THEY ARE PASSIONATE ABOUT GETTING THE STATE TO FUND EVERYBODY, BUT THEY'VE SEEN THE IMPACT ON THEIR KIDS. SO AND THEN WE'VE GOTTEN SOME INPUT FROM SOME OTHER PLACES OF DISTRICTS THAT WANT TO KNOW HOW TO DO THIS.

SO WE'LL GET THIS AROUND TO PEOPLE AND IT WAS VERY HELPFUL.

I DO KNOW THAT A LOT OF LEARNING HAPPENED AT OUR TOWN HALL AND, YOU KNOW, AS THE EDUCATION CONTINUES ON THE REAL TIME IMPACTS, I THINK THAT WE CAN HELP OUR LEGISLATORS ADVOCATE FOR US AND I'D ALSO LIKE TO MENTION CARIN AND DOCTOR MINER AND ANDY NOFZIGER FROM AEA.

AND I GOT TIME YESTERDAY.

IT WAS YESTERDAY, RIGHT, FOR ZOOM WITH MARCO LEE, WHO'S THE SENATOR FROM THE 21ST LD, AND HE WAS VERY SUPPORTIVE OF THE WORK AND I HAVE TO SAY, I'VE MET WITH HIM A NUMBER OF TIMES OVER THE YEARS, AND HIS MESSAGE HAS CHANGED, SOME FROM, OH, THERE ARE MANY COMPETING PRIORITIES TO.

WE DO HAVE TO HELP HERE.

WE HAVE TO DO THIS AND WHAT HE ASKED US WAS, I THOUGHT, VERY HELPFUL AND STRATEGIC IN HIS THINKING.

HE WANTED TO KNOW OF THE BILLS THAT MIGHT COME FORWARD AND THE KINDS OF THINGS THAT MIGHT BE BEING PUSHED BY OTHER LEGISLATORS.

[00:50:05]

WHAT HELPS US AND MUKILTEO IN PARTICULAR, WHICH ARE HIS TWO MAIN DISTRICTS.

SO HE CAN REALLY, ADVOCATE FOR HIS DISTRICTS AND HIS STUDENTS AND THERE WERE SOME EXAMPLES, LIKE TRANSPORTATION IS SOMETHING THAT'S BEING POINTED OUT STATEWIDE, BUT IT DOESN'T HELP US AS OPPOSED TO THE OTHER PARTS OF THE OF INSURANCE AND UTILITIES THAT DOES.

SO WE SAID THAT'S MORE IMPORTANT TO US THAN TRANSPORTATION AND HE ASKED ABOUT UNFUNDED MANDATES AND I THOUGHT THAT WAS A VERY HOPEFUL CONVERSATION, AND HE WAS VERY SUPPORTIVE AND BASICALLY SAID, YOU KNOW, KEEP IN TOUCH WITH HIM.

SO THAT AND AS WE SEE BILLS, IF THEY LET HIM KNOW, YOU KNOW WHERE THE IMPACTS ARE POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE.

DID YOU WANT TO ADD TO THAT? NOT TO THAT, BUT I WANT TO ADD SOMETHING TO THE CONVERSATION.

WHEN YOU'RE DONE WITH THAT, I'M DONE WITH THAT.

OKAY. I DID WANT TO SAY THAT DIRECTOR CHASE HAS ASKED THAT WE DEVELOP A POWERPOINT TO SHARE DURING THESE MEETINGS, AND IT'LL BE KIND OF THE SAME FORMAT. IT'LL BE PREDICTABLE FOR FOLKS THAT'LL HAVE BUILT.

BECAUSE, YOU KNOW, AS OF NEXT MEETING, WE REALLY RAMP UP WITH ALLEGED SESSION.

SO IT'LL BE AND THEN WE'LL POST THOSE BOTH AS PART OF THE BOARD MINUTES, BUT ALSO AND WE'LL PUBLISH THOSE AS PART OF THE BOARD MINUTES AS PART OF THE BOARD AGENDAS.

EXCUSE ME, BUT WE'LL ALSO PUT THOSE ON A SEPARATE PLACE IN THE WEBSITE AS WELL.

SO IF PEOPLE WANT TO SAY, I DON'T KNOW WHY THEY WOULDN'T WANT TO GO THROUGH THE WHOLE ENTIRE BOARD MEETING TO HEAR THE DISCUSSION.

BUT IF THEY WANT TO JUST GO DIRECTLY TO THE POWERPOINT, THEY'D BE ABLE TO FIND THAT DIRECTLY, BECAUSE THAT'S ONE OF THE QUESTIONS PEOPLE GET FROM US IS, WHERE CAN I GET INFORMATION ABOUT WHAT'S HOT RIGHT NOW, WHAT BILLS ARE, WHERE BILLS ARE? SO DIRECTOR CHASE HAS ASKED US FOR A SPECIFIC.

SO WE'RE JUST PUTTING THE FINISHING TOUCHES ON THAT TEMPLATE SO THAT YOU'LL BE ABLE TO USE IT AND IT'LL BE A PREDICTABLE FORMAT FOR PEOPLE TO BE ABLE TO SEEK OUT EACH TIME.

THAT'S GREAT. ALSO, I WILL ADD THAT LEGISLATIVE ADVOCACY GOES YEAR ROUND NOW THAT WE'VE PASSED OUR YOUR LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES FOR OUR DISTRICT.

I WILL SEND THOSE TOMORROW OR FRIDAY OR THURSDAY OR FRIDAY TO ALL OF THE LEGISLATORS, ALONG WITH ANOTHER GRAPHIC I CREATED OR CURTIS CREATED FOR THEM AND WE'LL SEND THOSE ON AND JUST LET THEM KNOW THAT WE'RE LOOKING FORWARD TO STAYING IN TOUCH THROUGHOUT THE SESSION, BUT THAT WE'VE PASSED OUR PRIORITIES AND WE APPRECIATE THEIR SUPPORT AND THAT'S GREAT, BECAUSE ONE OF THE THINGS THAT THEY SAID WAS KEEP COMING BACK TO THEM.

IT'S NOT LIKE ONE ONE AND DONE.

NO, KEEP COMING BACK TO THEM AND KEEP GIVING THEM INFORMATION.

SO THANK YOU AND TO CURTIS FOR THAT INFORMATIONAL STUFF BECAUSE THAT OTHER THAT SECOND GRAPHIC IS GORGEOUS.

IT'S REALLY SPOT ON.

GOOD. EXCELLENT TEAM.

ANYTHING ELSE. THAT'S IT.

OKAY AND I DO WANT TO SAY THANK YOU TO THE STAFF WHO ARE PUTTING TOGETHER THE POWERPOINT THAT YOU'LL BE DOING BECAUSE ONE OF THE FOLLOW UP STEPS THAT WE'VE TALKED ABOUT IS THE IMPORTANCE OF LETTING ALL OUR COMMUNITY AND WE KNOW WE HAVE A VERY SUPPORTIVE COMMUNITY.

1200 PEOPLE CAME TO THAT TOWN HALL.

THAT WAS A VERY SUPPORTIVE AND ENTHUSIASTIC GROUP, AND THEY WANT TO KNOW WHAT THEY CAN DO NEXT.

SO HELPING THEM KNOW WHAT ARE THE TOP BILLS THAT ARE STILL ALIVE THAT WE HOPE STAY ALIVE THROUGHOUT THE SESSION, AND HOW THEY CAN GO ON TO THE LEDGE, THE STATE LEDGE WEBSITE AND SAY, YES, YOU KNOW, I SUPPORT THIS.

IF THEY WANT TO LEAVE A COMMENT, IF THEY WANT TO DO A VIRTUAL COMMENT, HOW TO GO ABOUT DOING THAT, AND THAT WILL BE PART OF WHAT'S IN THAT.

SO THAT'S VERY IMPORTANT AND WE APPRECIATE EVERYBODY IN OUR COMMUNITY WHO'S BEEN SUPPORTING THIS EFFORT TO GET THE STATE TO STAND UP TO THEIR CONSTITUTIONAL DUTY AND I JUST WANT TO MAKE ONE QUICK COMMENT ON THAT, TOO.

IF YOU'RE SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO SUPPORT I HAVE GONE AND TESTIFIED BEFORE THE LEGISLATURE BEFORE, IT IS ACTUALLY A VERY FUN EXPERIENCE.

IT'S A LITTLE INTIMIDATING, BUT A VERY FUN EXPERIENCE.

SO AGAIN, AND THEY LOVE SEEING PEOPLE THERE.

IF YOU TAKE THE TIME TO DRIVE TO OLYMPIA, THEY KNOW THAT YOU'RE VERY SERIOUS ABOUT IT.

SO I WOULD JUST ENCOURAGE, IF THAT'S ANOTHER WAY YOU CAN SUPPORT, IF YOU CAN GET DOWN THERE.

GO AHEAD AND DO THAT AND IT'S A GREAT TIME.

OKAY. ANYTHING ELSE ON THE LEGISLATIVE SIDE? OKAY, STUDENTS, WHERE DID YOU GUYS HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR ANYTHING ABOUT THE LEGISLATIVE THINGS GOING ON? I WOULD JUST SAY TO ADD ON TO YOUR POINT, THE LEGISLATORS ARE REALLY, REALLY NICE PEOPLE.

AS SOMEONE WHO HAS SPOKEN TO LEGISLATORS BEFORE AND HAD THAT EXPERIENCE, THEY LOVE TO JUST HAVE YOU TALK TO THEM ONE ON ONE ABOUT WHAT MATTERS TO YOU.

WHEN I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO DO THAT AGAIN IN JANUARY, I'M ALREADY SETTING UP MY MEETINGS VIA EMAIL RIGHT NOW, SO THAT'S EXCITING.

THAT'S GREAT BECAUSE THEY REALLY APPRECIATE HEARING FROM STUDENTS.

THEY KNOW THAT YOU YOU ARE THE KEY.

YOU ARE WHO WE'RE ALL ABOUT AND THEY ARE TOO.

SO HEARING FROM YOU GUYS IS REALLY GREAT AND BEING ARTICULATE ABOUT WHAT THE IMPACT IS ON YOU IS JUST, YOU KNOW, WE IT'S GOLD.

[00:55:08]

SO WE REALLY APPRECIATE THAT.

THAT'S GREAT SANTIAGO. JUST A QUICK FOLLOW UP TO THAT.

I'M WONDERING IF YOU'RE ALSO PLANNING ON HEADING DOWN TO THE LEGISLATURE TO TESTIFY.

NO. SO WHAT I'M DOING CURRENTLY IN JANUARY IS I'M ADVOCATING FOR CTE AND CTSO ADVOCACY WITH MY EXTRACURRICULAR GROUPS AND THIS IS FROM STUDENTS ALL ACROSS WASHINGTON STATE, AROUND 70 OF THEM WHO REPRESENT DIFFERENT, DIFFERENT CTSOS OR STEM BASED, BUSINESS BASED.

ET CETERA, ET CETERA.

AND WE GO MEET WITH THE LEGISLATIVE DISTRICTS AND SENATORS THAT ARE FROM OUR HOME AREA, FROM OUR ADDRESS, AND THEN ALSO ONES THAT REPRESENT OUR SCHOOL.

BECAUSE FOR ME PERSONALLY, I KNOW MY WHERE I LIVE, I THINK I BELIEVE IN LIVE IN DISTRICT TWO, BUT MY SCHOOL IS BASED IN LYNNWOOD.

BASED IN DISTRICT ONE OR OTHER WAY AROUND.

BUT WE MEET WITH THEM AND WE JUST DISCUSS HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO US.

WE TELL THEM OUR STORY AND JUST IF THERE'S A BILL WE WANT TO ADVOCATE FOR AT THAT TIME, WE ALSO BRING THAT UP AS WELL.

I JUST THINK YOU'D BE A VERY POWERFUL VOICE TO BE HEARD DOWN IN OLYMPIA.

ANYTHING ELSE? THANK YOU.

SO IT'S TIME NOW FOR BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS.

[15. BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS]

SO, SANTIAGO, DO YOU WANT TO START? YEAH, MIGHT AS WELL. I'M ON A ROLL HERE.

I WROTE DOWN ALL THE SPORTS STUFF THAT WE ALREADY TALKED ABOUT, ALL OF THAT.

BUT YEAH, I'M JUST VERY PROUD OF ALL MY FRIENDS FROM MY SCHOOL WHO, YOU KNOW, GO TO THE TIME AND EFFORT TO COMMIT TO PLAYING THEIR SPORTS AND DOING A REALLY GOOD JOB AT STATE.

IT MAKES ME REALLY HAPPY AND THE BIG THING THAT WE DID SINCE THE LAST MEETING WAS WE HOSTED OUR VERY BIG SPIRIT WEEK FOR OUR PEP WEEK IS WHAT IT'S CALLED IS WHERE IT'S CALLED THE PURSUIT OF THE POWER PLUNGER AND WHAT IT IS SORT OF A RIVALRY WITH MALIK TERRACE WAS KIND OF VERY ONE SIDED.

BUT WHAT WE DO IS WE JUST WE SPEND THIS ENTIRE WEEK JUST RAISING FOOD AND DONATING BLOOD AND GETTING FOOD AND THE BIG THING AND THE BIG CONTRIBUTOR TO THAT IS THE ELLINWOOD HIGH SCHOOL MUSIC PROGRAM OR THE TRI-M MUSIC HONOR SOCIETY.

THEY RAISED 13,800 CANS IN THE SPAN OF A WEEK WITH ALL THE KIDS FROM THE MUSIC DEPARTMENT, WHICH IS AWESOME AND THEN DURING OUR ANNUAL ONE DAY BLOOD DRIVE, WE HAD 158 BLOOD DONORS, WHICH IS VERY IMPRESSIVE AND AS A BLOOD DONOR MYSELF, IT'S REALLY, REALLY IMPORTANT AND AS SOMEONE WHO'S HAD BLOOD TRANSFUSIONS, I THINK THAT IT'S AWESOME THAT WE'RE ABLE TO DO THIS EVERY YEAR AND JUST HAVE THAT IMPACT ON THE COMMUNITY.

SO YEAH, THAT'S JUST THE BIG THING WE'VE DONE THIS PAST WEEK AND THE BIG INCENTIVE FOR THAT IS TWO STUDENTS AND OUR PRINCIPAL GOT THEIR HAIR BUZZED OFF AT THE ASSEMBLY FOR MEETING THIS GOAL FOR CANNED DONATIONS, WHICH IS PRETTY.

IT'S A PRETTY BIG INCENTIVE, AND I'M GLAD THAT WE WERE ABLE TO MEET THAT AND SEE THAT HAPPEN AT OUR SCHOOL SPIRIT ASSEMBLY, WHICH IS AWESOME.

VIVIAN, YOU WANT TO GO NEXT? YEAH. I WILL GIVE AN UPDATE ON THE SUPERINTENDENT STUDENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE.

SO ON THIS PAST MEETING ON WEDNESDAY, WE FIGURED OUT KIND OF WHAT OUR BIG OVERARCHING PROJECT IS GOING TO BE FOR THIS YEAR, AND IT'S GOING TO BE REALLY FOCUSING ON WHAT THE COMMITTEE IS AND DOING KIND OF AN OVERHAUL ON ALL ASPECTS OF IT.

SO WE'VE DIVIDED UP INTO THREE GROUPS, THE FIRST ONE BEING KIND OF MARKETING AND OUTREACH.

THIS YEAR WE ARE VERY HEAVY ON SENIORS, SO IT'S VERY IMPORTANT THAT WE ARE ABLE TO RECRUIT YOUNGER STUDENTS TO BE ABLE TO KEEP THIS SOMETHING THAT IS ABLE TO CONTINUE GOING. FIGURING OUT HOW TO REACH OUT TO STUDENTS THAT MAYBE AREN'T AS INVOLVED IN CLUBS SPORTS TO GET A MORE DIVERSE RANGE OF STUDENTS.

OUR SECOND GROUP IS KIND OF MORE ABOUT THE SUBSTANCE OF THE COMMITTEE.

SO THAT'S PLANNING WHAT DO WE WANT THE GOAL OF THE COMMITTEE TO BE? WHAT ARE THE MEETINGS GOING TO LOOK LIKE? RIGHT NOW WE'RE THINKING OF GOING BACK TO TWO MEETINGS PER YEAR.

THIS YEAR WE'RE ONLY AT ONE MEETING PER YEAR.

SO THAT ALSO IS HOPEFULLY GOING TO BE ABLE TO HAVE US GET A LOT MORE DONE AND OUR LAST GROUP IS FOCUSING ON THE APPLICATION PROCESS.

SO THAT IS WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO APPLY AND THEN ALSO THE SELECTION PROCESS OF WHO'S EVALUATING IT.

ARE STUDENTS EVALUATING IT AND WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR IN A STUDENT.

THAT'S GREAT. THANK YOU.

I KNOW THE BOARD IS VERY INTERESTED IN KEEPING UP WITH THE PROGRESS OF THE STUDENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE, SO WE REALLY APPRECIATE THAT UPDATE.

IT'S GOOD TO KNOW.

SCARLETT. YOU WANT TO GO NEXT? CAN YOU GUYS HEAR ME? OKAY.

YES. SO MY UPDATE FROM MY SCHOOL IS ACTUALLY VERY SIMILAR TO SANTI'S.

WE ARE HAVING OUR WINTER WISHES WEEK THIS WEEK, AND WE HAVE A GOAL OF SAVING UP TO DONATE 20,000 CANS TO THE EDMONDS FOOD BANK AND IT'S SOMETHING THAT WE DO YEARLY AS WELL AND I GUESS OUR INCENTIVE IS WE'RE NOT SHAVING OFF ANYONE'S HAIR, BUT WE ARE GOING TO PIE ONE OF THE ADMINISTRATORS IN THE FACE

[01:00:01]

. SO THAT'S OUR INCENTIVE AND OUR TEAM IS ALSO DOING A FOOD DRIVE TO THE EDMONDS FOOD BANK.

SO THAT IS COMING UP AND THEN OUR TSA HAS A FUNDRAISER AT CHARITY.

SO IF STUDENTS SHOW THEIR ID THEY GET 15% OFF THEIR ORDER.

AND IT ENDS ON CHRISTMAS AND AS YOU SAW, THERE'S A LOT OF EDMONDS-WOODWAY HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETES THAT MADE WESTCO HONORS THIS YEAR.

SO THAT'S REALLY EXCITING AND I'M REALLY PROUD OF THEM AND FOR THE STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE NETWORKS, WHAT'S HAPPENING RIGHT NOW IS THAT THERE'S OFFICER ELECTIONS FOR CHAIR, VICE CHAIR AND SECRETARY AND SO WE ARE DECIDING WHICH STUDENTS WILL FILL THOSE POSITIONS AND I THINK EVERYONE JUST LOOKING FORWARD TO WINTER BREAK.

I HEARD SOME PEOPLE AFTER THANKSGIVING SAY THEY NEED A BREAK FOR THEIR BREAK.

SO LOOKING FORWARD TO THAT.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU.

VIVIAN. OH, TATIANA.

SORRY. HI.

YOU'RE GOOD. YEAH.

IT'S FINE. SO THIS LAST WEEKEND ON SUNDAY, OUR SCHOOL WENT TO INTERLEAGUE FOR ROBOTICS, WHICH WAS REALLY GREAT AND WE PARTICIPATED WITH A BUNCH OF OTHER TEAMS IN THE AREA AND BOTH OF OUR TEAMS WILL BE BOTH OF OUR SCHOOL'S TEAMS WILL BE ADVANCING TO SEMIFINALS, WHICH IS REALLY EXCITING.

MY TEAM GOT FIRST PLACE ALLIANCE AND THIRD PLACE INSPIRE AWARD, AND MY SCHOOL'S OTHER TEAM, 305 ALSO GOT SECOND PLACE INSPIRE AWARD.

SO IT'S REALLY GREAT THAT WE WILL BOTH BE ADVANCING.

ADDITIONALLY, MY SCHOOL'S THEATER PROGRAM SOME OF YOU MAY KNOW MY SCHOOL IS A K-12.

SO FOR THE YOUNGER STUDENTS LAST WEEKEND THEY HAD THEIR PERFORMANCE OF MADAGASCAR JUNIOR WHICH I HEARD WAS VERY SUCCESSFUL.

AND THIS COMING WEEKEND, MY SCHOOL IN THE DEVELOPING ARTIST, WHICH IS LIKE MIDDLE SCHOOLERS, THEY'RE DOING JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH, WHICH WILL BE REALLY EXCITING AND A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE WORKING HARD TO GET TO THE REWARD OF WINTER BREAK AS WELL.

SO I THINK THAT'S SUPER EXCITING.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

SORRY I MESSED UP NAMES.

DIRECTOR GERRARD.

THANK YOU. SO SINCE LAST TIME, I WAS ACCOMPANIED THE SUPERINTENDENT ON A VISIT TO MADRONA K-8.

VERY INTERESTING TO SEE THE DEAF AND HARD OF HEARING PROGRAM THERE.

SO MANY SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETERS DOING AMAZING WORK, AND I WAS ESPECIALLY SURPRISED BY TO SEE A SMALL CLASS OF STUDENTS WHO DON'T KNOW ENGLISH.

THEY DON'T KNOW DIDN'T HAVE ANY LANGUAGE, REALLY, BECAUSE THEY WERE DEAF AND SO THEY'RE WORKING TO ACQUIRE LANGUAGE WITH SIGN LANGUAGE IS A REALLY POWERFUL TO SEE.

BUT SO THERE'S A LOT OF GREAT WORK BEING DONE AT MADRONA.

I WANTED TO THANK MOLLY MARTIN FROM OAK HEIGHTS FOR DRAWING TO THE BOARD'S ATTENTION A BOOK CALLED THE ANXIOUS GENERATION. WHICH DIRECTOR CRAMER SAID HE'D ALREADY READ.

I HAD NOT READ IT WASN'T FAMILIAR WITH IT, BUT I WATCHED THE, LIKE, SORT OF TED TALK YOUTUBE THAT CAME WITH THAT AND IT'S VERY INTERESTING.

I THINK IT'S ABOUT THE CHANGE THAT SOCIAL MEDIA AND ACCESS TO, LIKE, SMARTPHONES HAS MADE ON CHILDHOOD, HOW WE HOW CHILDHOOD HAS BECOME LESS PLAY BASED AND MORE PHONE BASED AND SO I THINK IT REALLY BRINGS UP SOME GOOD ISSUES THAT WE NEED TO PROBABLY LOOK AT IN TERMS OF PHONES IN OUR SCHOOLS. I WANT TO SAY I AM SAD THAT OUR EVENT ON IMMIGRATION RIGHTS HAD TO BE CANCELED.

I UNDERSTAND WHY IT DID.

I'M GLAD TO KNOW THAT OUR SUPERINTENDENT, OUR DISTRICT STILL IS COMMITTED TO SHARING THAT INFORMATION.

CRITICAL INFORMATION AND FINALLY, I WANTED TO SAY, YOU KNOW, WE ELECTED THESE BOARD OFFICERS AND THEY GOT TO SAY HOW MUCH THEY APPRECIATED BEING ELECTED TO THOSE.

BUT I WANT TO SAY THAT I APPRECIATE THE LEADERSHIP OF THE BOARD, THAT WE HAVE SUCH CAPABLE LEADERS THAT IT'S NOT A BUNCH OF NEWBIES LIKE ME SORT OF BUMBLING AROUND.

SO I JUST REALLY GLAD TO BE ABLE TO BE PART OF THIS BOARD AND TO WORK WITH TO WORK WITH THEM.

SO THAT'S MY COMMENTS.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU, DIRECTOR CRAMER.

YEAH, THANKS. SO FIRST, SCARLETT AS A FORMER PRINCIPAL, I DID AN INCENTIVE ABOUT THE PIES IN THE FACE.

[01:05:06]

AND ONE THING THAT YOUR PRINCIPAL WILL HATE ME FOR IS WHAT REALLY INCENTIVIZED THE STUDENTS IS IF THEY BROUGHT IN A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF THINGS THAN THEY COULD INDIVIDUALLY PUT A PIE IN THE FACE SO YOU COULD HAVE MORE.

PIES IN THE FACE.

BUT BE CAREFUL WITH HOW YOU SET THAT UP, BECAUSE AT ONE POINT I HAD 43 PIES IN THE FACE IN ONE DAY, AND I LITERALLY HAD TO GO HOME AFTERWARD TO GET IT OUT OF MY EARS AND NOSTRILS AND EVERYTHING ELSE.

IT WAS JUST AWFUL, BUT HIGHLY EFFECTIVE.

SECOND THING THAT WASN'T ON MY ORIGINAL LIST.

SORRY ABOUT THAT. I WANT TO DO A SHOUT OUT TO ALL THE TEACHERS AT OAK HEIGHTS.

AS YOU KNOW, THEY'VE BEEN AT ALDERWOOD MIDDLE SCHOOL, THE OLD ALDERWOOD MIDDLE SCHOOL WHICH MY OLDER KIDS WENT TO AND IT'S JUST A, YOU KNOW, IT'S DEPRESSING TO BE IN A SCHOOL THAT WAS SHUT DOWN.

EXCITING THAT THEY WILL BE MOVING INTO A BRAND NEW BEAUTIFUL SCHOOL.

BUT IT'S HARD.

THE MOVE OVER THERE WAS IS HARD.

BEING THERE IS HARD.

THE DISTRICT HAS BEEN DOING EVERYTHING THEY CAN TO MAKE IT BETTER, BUT IT'S A YOU KNOW, IT'S A REALLY OLD BUILDING.

SO I JUST WANT TO SHOUT OUT TO ALL THOSE TEACHERS AND ADMINISTRATORS AND PEREZ AND CUSTODIANS THAT ARE WORKING REALLY HARD TO MAKE IT AS GREAT AS THEY POSSIBLY CAN FOR THOSE KIDS. IT IS A LOT OF WORK THAT THEY ARE ALL UNDERTAKING, AND I APPRECIATE THE DISTRICT'S SUPPORT IN SUPPORTING THEM.

THEN FINALLY, I WANT TO SAY A LITTLE BIT ABOUT HOLIDAY SUPPORT.

THIS YES, WE ARE ALL LOOKING FORWARD AS TEACHERS AND STUDENTS LOOKING FORWARD TO THE BREAK AND AS MANY OF YOU KNOW, HOLIDAYS CAN ALSO BE A REALLY TRICKY TIME FOR A LOT OF KIDS AND IT INTRODUCES A PERIOD OF TIME THAT THERE'S A LOT OF UNKNOWNS AND LACK OF STABILITY AND ROUTINE AND THINGS LIKE THAT THAT STUDENTS REALLY COUNT ON AND IT'S IN TIME OF INCREASED STRESS FOR PARENTS AS WELL AND MY HEART AND HEARTFELT THANKS GOES OUT TO ALL OF OUR TEACHERS AND COUNSELORS AND ADMINISTRATORS AND PARENTS THAT ARE DOING THAT WORK EVERY DAY TO SUPPORT THEIR THEIR CHILDREN AS THEY KNOW THEM.

IN BEING ABLE TO MEET THE UNCERTAINTY THAT LIES AHEAD FOR A LOT OF THE KIDS THAT REALLY STRUGGLE.

SO BIG SHOUT OUT TO THEM AND THEN FINALLY TO ALL OF OUR TEACHERS AND ALL OF OUR STUDENTS AND STAFF MEMBERS, SINCE THIS IS THE LAST TIME WE'LL MEET BEFORE THE HOLIDAYS.

JUST TO WISHING EVERYONE THE SAFEST AND HAPPIEST HOLIDAYS AHEAD.

THANK YOU, DIRECTOR SMITH.

I HAD FORGOTTEN ABOUT THE POWER PLUNGER UNTIL MERE MOMENTS AGO, AND I FEEL THAT I MUST SAY THAT I SEEM TO REMEMBER TERRACE CRUSHED LYNNWOOD IN THE FOUR YEARS I WAS THERE.

SO, YOU KNOW, IT'S AN ONGOING COMPETITION.

ANYWAY, I'M REALLY HAPPY TO HEAR, THOUGH, THAT'S STILL GOING ON.

IT WAS ALWAYS FOR A GOOD CAUSE, AND I DON'T KNOW, IT'S COOL TO SEE SOMETHING THAT'S CONTINUED FOR NOW 20 YEARS AND THAT WAS GOING, YOU KNOW, BEFORE I GOT THERE.

SO IT'S VERY COOL THAT YOU GUYS HAVE KEPT THAT UP.

I ALSO WANTED TO KIND OF PIGGYBACK ON WHAT DIRECTOR GERARD HAD SAID.

I KNOW THAT I'VE SAID THIS BEFORE, BUT I'LL SAY IT AGAIN.

IN WORK, I HAD OCCASION TO MEET AN INDIVIDUAL WHO WAS DEAF, HAD NEVER SPOKEN ANY ENGLISH.

LIKE BORN DEAF AND IT IS ITS OWN CULTURE AND ITS OWN, YOU KNOW, ITS OWN LANGUAGE, ITS OWN SYNTAX, LIKE THIS CONCEPT OF YOU CAN WRITE THEM LETTERS OR SOMETHING ELSE.

IT DOESN'T WORK THAT WAY, BECAUSE IT WOULD BE LIKE IF SOMEONE WROTE ME A LETTER IN GREEK, LIKE I JUST WOULDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH IT AND SO I GOT A LOT OF OPPORTUNITIES TO REALLY LEARN SOME MORE ABOUT DEAF CULTURE AND WORKING WITH THAT INDIVIDUAL.

AND I AM BY NO MEANS AN EXPERT, BUT IT REALLY GAVE ME A NEW UNDERSTANDING AND RESPECT FOR THE BARRIERS THAT ARE THERE THAT I WOULD HAVE NEVER THOUGHT ARE THERE FOR THAT PARTICULAR DISABILITY.

SO IT'S VERY AWESOME THAT WE ARE DOING STUFF IN THE DISTRICT TO SUPPORT THAT AND IT'S ONE OF THE REASONS WHY, WHEN WE WERE HAVING SOME OF THOSE CONVERSATIONS DURING BUDGETS LAST YEAR, THAT WAS AN ISSUE THAT REALLY JUMPED OUT AT ME AS BEING SOMETHING WE WANT TO PRESERVE, BECAUSE IT REALLY IS SOMETHING THAT IS VERY MEANINGFUL TO THOSE WHO ARE EXPERIENCING THAT AND NEED THE SUPPORT AND THE LAST THING I'LL SAY IS JUST HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO EVERYBODY.

I PERSONALLY, WHEN I MEET PEOPLE OR HAVE PEOPLE MEET ME, I WOULD PREFER THEY TELL ME SORT OF LIKE WHAT THEIR CELEBRATION IS.

[01:10:05]

SO FOR ME, IF SOMEONE SAYS HAPPY HANUKKAH OR MERRY CHRISTMAS OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT.

I DON'T THINK OF IT IN ANY WAY.

I THINK OF IT AS THEIR INVITATION TO TELL ME WHAT IT IS.

THEIR VALUES ARE WHAT THEY CELEBRATE.

SO FOR ME, IT'S A MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ANYONE WHO'S OUT THERE.

THAT IS WHAT MY FAMILY CELEBRATES AND I HOPE THAT IF YOU ARE SOMEONE WHO CELEBRATES SOMETHING DIFFERENT KWANZAA, HANUKKAH, WHATEVER THAT IT IS A VERY MERRY HOLIDAY SEASON FOR YOU AS WELL AND I JUST HOPE THAT EVERYONE GETS A CHANCE TO RECHARGE AND SPEND TIME WITH THEIR FAMILY.

THANK YOU, DIRECTOR CHASE.

JUST WISHING EVERYONE HAPPY HOLIDAYS AND WANT TO.

ALSO, I WILL BE WELCOMING THE DAYS BECOMING LONGER WITH OUR SOLSTICE ON THE 21ST.

LOOKING FORWARD TO TAKING A LITTLE BREAK AND COMING BACK 100% IN 2025.

SOUNDS GOOD. I WANT TO THANK YOU ALL AGAIN FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND TRUST IN ME.

YOU MAKE IT VERY EASY TO BE PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD BECAUSE YOU GUYS ARE GREAT TO WORK WITH.

WHEN WE DISAGREE, WE DISAGREE WITH RESPECT AND WE APPRECIATE ALL OF THE PERSPECTIVES THAT WE EACH BRING, AND I'M HAPPY TO BE ABLE TO TAKE WHATEVER EXTRA ROLE IS NECESSARY BECAUSE I HAVE THE TIME AND SOME OF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE TIME.

SO I REALLY APPRECIATE WORKING WITH ALL OF YOU.

YOU MAKE IT VERY EASY.

I HAD A VERY NICE VISIT WITH THE FOLKS AT EDMONDS L WITH DOCTOR MINOR.

ENJOYED. WE HAD ACTUALLY A VERY INTERESTING CONVERSATION WITH A SIXTH GRADE GROUP OF KIDS WHO TALKED TO US ABOUT I-READY, WHICH WAS GREAT TO HEAR FROM THE KIDS PERSPECTIVE. I HAVE TWO, TWO COMING UP THIS WEEK.

COLLEGE PLACE ELEMENTARY AND MEADOWDALE HIGH.

SO, YOU KNOW, THE HOLIDAYS HAVEN'T YET COME, AND WE'RE STILL IN SCHOOL, STILL WORKING HARD.

BUT THAT BEING SAID, I DO WANT TO WISH EVERYBODY A SAFE AND HEALTHY AND JOYOUS HOLIDAY AND TO SORT OF ECHO WHAT DIRECTOR CRAMER SAID, THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE UNDER STRESS DURING THE HOLIDAYS.

IT HAS A DIFFERENT EFFECT ON DIFFERENT PEOPLE, AND I THINK WE ALL NEED TO SHOW KINDNESS AND GRACE TO EVERYBODY, JUST ALL THE TIME, BUT PARTICULARLY DURING THE HOLIDAY SEASON, AND TO BE SENSITIVE TO DIFFERENT PEOPLE'S NEEDS.

BUT WISHING EVERYBODY A GOOD BREAK FOR WHATEVER IT IS THAT HELPS FLOAT YOUR BOAT AND ON THE FLOATING YOUR BOAT TOPIC, BEFORE WE THERE ARE SO MANY AMAZING ACTIVITIES GOING ON.

CHOIR CONCERTS, WINTER MARKETS.

IF THOSE AREN'T YOUR JAM, THERE'S A LOT OF GREAT BASKETBALL, LOTS OF WONDERFUL THINGS TO SEE AND DO RIGHT NOW.

SO MY CALENDAR IS BOOKED WITH LOTS OF THINGS TO BUILD ON.

WHAT DIRECTOR CRAMER SAID.

ALSO EVEN AS MANY PEOPLE STRUGGLE, WE ALSO HAVE MANY COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS TRYING TO REALLY COME AROUND AND SUPPORT PEOPLE.

SO IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A VOLUNTEER ACTIVITY, I KNOW IN PARTICULAR HOLLY HOUSE IS STILL SENDING OUT A LOT OF OPPORTUNITIES AND TIME SLOTS THAT ARE KIND OF SCRAMBLE FOR A LOCATION THIS YEAR, SO THEY'RE REALLY NEEDING SOME VOLUNTEERS TO LEAN IN AND SUPPORT THEIR WORK.

THEY SUPPLY GIFTS AND BOOKS AND SOCKS, AND IT'S A REALLY AN AMAZING EVENT WHERE FAMILIES CAN TOUR THROUGH AND JUST GET SOME WONDERFUL GIFTS AND BASIC NEEDS MET FOR THEIR FAMILIES.

ADDITIONALLY, DELIVERING MEALS VIA THE FOUNDATION, THEY DELIVER ENTIRE, YOU KNOW, HELP SUPPORT FAMILIES THROUGH THE TWO WEEKS WHEN STUDENTS AREN'T GETTING MEALS, BUT ALSO AN AMAZING HOLIDAY DINNER, A WHOLE DINNER THAT PEOPLE CAN PACK UP SO THEY NEED HELP DELIVERING.

SO THERE'S LOTS OF OPPORTUNITIES IF YOU WANT TO FIND A WAY TO, IN SOME WAYS, EVEN SLIGHTLY LESSEN THE BURDEN THAT SOME FAMILIES MAY BE EXPERIENCING DURING THIS TIME AND THEN WE THE DISTRICT OFFICE THIS YEAR IS GOING TO CLOSE DURING SOME OF WINTER BREAK.

THIS IS NOT USUAL FOR US, BUT THE WAY THE HOLIDAYS, THE HOLIDAYS FALL, BUT ALSO THE FACT THAT MANY STAFF HAVE TAKEN FURLOUGH DAYS THIS YEAR TO HELP WITH BUDGET.

WE JUST REALIZED WE WERE NOT GOING TO HAVE THE STAFF TO BE ABLE TO SUPPORT.

IT'S USUALLY VERY QUIET.

SO WE WILL BE CLOSED BETWEEN DECEMBER 24TH AND JANUARY 1ST.

SOME PEOPLE, OF COURSE, YOU WILL STILL SEE CARDS HERE.

SOME PEOPLE ARE GETTING PAYCHECKS OUT, SOME PEOPLE WILL BE DOING THE WORK THAT HAS TO BE DONE, BUT WE WON'T BE SCHEDULING.

THE DISTRICT OFFICE WILL NOT HAVE OPEN HOURS DURING THOSE DAYS, AND WE WILL BE CLOSED AND THEN WE WILL REOPEN ON JANUARY 2ND AND SCHOOLS WILL REOPEN THE FOLLOWING WEEK.

SO HOPING THAT THOSE WHO GET THE TIME OFF DURING THE BREAK HAVE A WONDERFUL TIME WITH THEIR FAMILIES, THOSE WHO DON'T.

I KNOW SOMETIMES THEY APPRECIATE QUIET TIME TO WORK IN SCHOOLS AND REALLY DIG DEEP TO GET SOME THINGS DONE.

THANK YOU FOR THAT UPDATE AND THIS REGULAR BUSINESS MEETING OF THE EDMONDS SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD OF DIRECTORS IS ADJOURNED FOR THE YEAR.
