[7. SCHOOL PRESENTATION- 6:45 pm]

OKAY. READY FOR ME? WELL, NOW, I AM SO PLEASED TO, INTRODUCE OUR NEXT STUDENTS AND THEIR PRINCIPAL.

FIRST, WE'LL START WITH OUR BEVERLY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENT PRESENTATION.

AND I BELIEVE THEIR PRINCIPAL WILL COME FORWARD AND INTRODUCE THEM TO GET US STARTED.

YOU WANT TO SAY THANK YOU TO OUR SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS FOR HAVING US HERE TONIGHT.

I HAVE SIXTH GRADERS FROM MRS. KB'S, FIFTH AND SIXTH GRADERS FROM MRS. KB'S FIVE SIX SPLIT AT BEVERLY ELEMENTARY.

I'M GOING TO HAVE THEM JUST SAY THEIR NAME FOR YOU IN THE MICROPHONE.

I KNOW THEY'RE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THAT.

WHAT CAN I SAY? MY LAST NAME. JERSEY RAYMOND, LANA HAROLD, ALEXANDER ROBERTS, CONNOR CHILD, HERMOSA PARTIDO DEL ROSARIO, SOFIA SANCHEZ TORRES, IZZY ROUSE, HANNAH LAZARUS.

[INAUDIBLE] JOSHUA REGIS.

AND THEIR PRESENTATION IS A VIDEO THAT THEY CREATED TOGETHER.

SO WE'RE GOING TO WATCH THE VIDEO AND THEN THEY ARE PREPARED TO ANSWER QUESTIONS.

[VIDEO] LEARN WHAT A DATA DRIVEN CLASSROOM IS.

DATA? WHAT'S THAT DATA? I LOVE DATA.

MY TEACHER, SHE ALWAYS USES DATA.

SHE'S A DATA DRIVEN TEACHER.

SHE LOVES USING DATA.

YOU CAN KNOW HOW WELL YOU'RE DOING IN SCHOOL.

WHAT IS DATA? YOU KNOW WHAT DATA IS? DATA IS SOMETHING THAT SHOWS YOU HOW GOOD OR BAD YOU DID ON THE TEST.

FOR THE NEXT TIME, WHEN YOU TAKE THE TEST AGAIN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE YEAR, YOU COULD DO BETTER BECAUSE YOU LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKES, AND YOU CAN FINALLY TELL YOUR PARENTS HOW YOU DID. THAT IS DATA.

I FELT VERY GOOD ABOUT MY DATA BECAUSE MY DATA WAS AT ABOUT THE WAS THAT THE TYPICAL ALMOST LIKE THE TYPICAL GROWTH LINE.

AND MY TEACHER SAID MY TEACHER, MISS KB, SAID THAT I WOULD MOST LIKELY REACH MY STRETCH GROWTH GOAL BY THE END OF THE YEAR, AND I FELT REALLY GOOD ABOUT THAT..

DATA YOU KNOW, BECAUSE I CAN KNOW HOW I'M DOING IN CLASS AND AND KNOW WHAT I HAVE TO NEED TO IMPROVE ON.

SO YEAH, THAT'S WHAT I LIKE ABOUT DATA.

AND, IT'S ALSO FUN LOOKING THROUGH YOUR DATA BECAUSE YOU CAN KNOW WHAT LIKE STUFF YOU NEED TO WORK ON AT HOME.

AND THAT'S WHAT I LIKE ABOUT DATA.

YOU WANNA KNOW WHAT A DATA CHART IS? A DATA CHART IS A CONVERSATION THAT YOU HAVE WITH YOUR TEACHER.

WHEN YOU'RE DONE TAKING AN I READY DIAGNOSTIC, SHE TELLS YOU HOW GOOD YOU DID.

AND THEN IF YOU FEEL LIKE YOU DIDN'T DO AS GOOD, YOU CAN ALWAYS RETAKE IT AGAIN AND LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKES.

THAT IS THE DATA CHAT. YOUR BIGGEST QUESTION RIGHT NOW IS PROBABLY WHAT'S DATA? WHAT IS DATA? DATA IS YOUR PROGRESS.

DATA IS ALL THE THINGS THAT YOU'VE DONE THIS YEAR BASICALLY YOUR MATH, YOUR READING.

THAT'S WHAT DATA IS.

WHEN I WENT TO THE BACK TABLE TO TALK TO MY TEACHER ABOUT DATA, HONESTLY, I DIDN'T FEEL TOO GOOD ABOUT IT.

EITHER WAY, IF IT WAS HIGH OR LOW, I'M PRETTY SURE MY PARENTS WOULD HAVE ALWAYS EXPECTED ME TO DO HIGHER, OR I JUST EXPECTED MYSELF TO PUSH MYSELF HIGHER.

BUT WHEN I TALK TO MY TEACHER ABOUT IT, I FELT GOOD ABOUT MY DATA.

DATA IS PROGRESS.

YEAH. OKAY.

SO GOALS ARE SOMETHING THAT YOU SAID AND YOU COULD SAY LIKE I WANT TO READ TWO BOOKS BEFORE THE SCHOOL YEAR ENDS.

SO IN THAT HOPE THAT HELPS ME.

[00:20:03]

IT MOTIVATES A LOT OF OTHER KIDS TO DO SOMETHING AND HELPS YOU GET INTO BETTER COLLEGES AND HELPS YOU JUST LIKE, MOTIVATE YOURSELF INTO DOING STUFF A LITTLE FASTER, I GUESS.

LAST YEAR, I PUT A GOAL THAT I WANTED TO READ THREE BOOKS AND I THOUGHT I COULDN'T DO IT.

BUT THEN I DID IT A COUPLE OF DAYS BEFORE THE SCHOOL ENDED.

AND SO THAT'S WHAT I LIKE ABOUT GOALS, BECAUSE IT HELPS YOU MOTIVATE YOURSELF TO DO STUFF.

HEY, MY NAME IS JOSHUA AND I'M HERE TO TALK ABOUT GOALS.

AND MY GOALS ARE TO TRY AND BE BETTER AT GAMES, BUT MOSTLY BE BETTER AT WRITING, THINKING, SPELLING.

I THINK YOU SHOULD DO GOALS TOO.

GOALS ARE SOME THAT WE TRYING TO ACHIEVE SO YOU SHOULD DO GOALS.

MY NAME IS STELLA AND MY GOAL IS TO GET BETTER AT MATH EVERY SINGLE DAY BY PRACTICING AND PRACTICING.

MY GOAL THIS YEAR IS TO GET BETTER AT MATH, TO BE BETTER AT ORGANIZING.

MY GOAL IS TO READ FLUENTLY.

MY GOALS IS TO FINISH A BOOK SERIES I'VE BEEN READING.

I REALLY LIKE IT SO FAR.

ONE OF MY GOALS IS TO READ THE ENTIRE 400 PAGE MORAL CODE BOOK.

GOALS ARE SOMETHING THAT YOU ACHIEVE WHEN YOU REALLY WANT IT.

FOR EXAMPLE, MY GOAL IS TRYING TO READ THIS WHOLE BOOK BECAUSE THIS WHOLE YEAR I HAVEN'T FINISHED A SINGLE BOOK YET, BUT I FEEL LIKE I'M GONNA GET THERE.

IT'S TO BE 50 PAGES OF A BOOK EACH DAY.

MY GOAL IS TO GET BETTER AT MY HAND.

HI GUYS. MY GOAL IS TO FINISH THREE MORE I-READY LESSONS SO THAT I CAN BE ON THE CHART AND CLIMB THE I-READY MOUNTAIN.

FOR INFO ABOUT DATA IS GROWTH, GROWTH, GROWTH, GROWTH.

I'M PRETTY SURE IT'S GROWTH, GROWTH, GROWTH, BEING ABLE TO LEARN AND GROW AND REACH YOUR GOALS.

ASK ME ABOUT MY DATA.

MY GOAL IS TO FINISH ONE BOOK WITHOUT ANY PICTURES IN IT.

I FINISH ONE BOOK AND MY DAD IS REALLY PROUD OF ME SO MUCH.

MY GOAL IS TRYING TO READ THIS WHOLE BOOK BECAUSE THIS WHOLE YEAR I HAVEN'T FINISHED A SINGLE.

QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS, GUYS? I'LL START. GO FOR IT.

SO I'D LIKE TO HEAR WHAT GOAL YOU ARE MOST PROUD OF SO FAR WITH YOUR PROGRESS.

ANY ONE OF YOU WHO WANT TO STEP UP TO THE MIC.

THIS IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO PRACTICE YOUR PUBLIC SPEAKING.

YOU TELL ME YOUR NAME AGAIN.

SOPHIA. SOPHIA.

AWESOME. ONE OF THE GOALS THAT I'M PROUD OF IS, ACTUALLY FINISHING A BOOK.

AND RIGHT NOW I'M ACTUALLY READING A SERIES, AND I DON'T THINK I'VE EVER DONE THAT BEFORE, SO I'M REALLY PROUD OF MYSELF.

AWESOME. CONGRATULATIONS. WHAT SERIES ARE YOU READING? IT'S CALLED A BOOK, MICHAEL VEY.

OH, GREAT. THANK YOU.

ANYONE ELSE. ONE OF MY GOALS WAS TO READ LESS GRAPHIC NOVELS AND TO START READING BOOKS THAT HAVE CHAPTERS AND DON'T HAVE PICTURES.

AND RIGHT NOW I'M ON THE SECOND BOOK ON A REALLY BIG SERIES.

AWESOME. CONGRATULATIONS.

GOOD JOB. I'VE NEVER FINISHED, LIKE, A BOOK WITHOUT ANY PICTURES IN IT.

AND I FINISHED MY FIRST BOOK WITH NO PICTURES IN IT.

SO WHAT WAS THE BOOK? MICHAEL BAY.

AWESOME. GREAT. THANK YOU.

[00:25:08]

WELL, I HEARD SOME OF YOU HAVE ACHIEVED SOME GOALS THIS YEAR.

ARE THERE ANY NEW GOALS YOU HAVE FOR THE COMING MONTHS? ANYBODY WANT TO ANSWER? I WANT TO MAKE EVEN MORE GROWTH ON MY READY BECAUSE I'VE ALREADY MADE MY STRETCH GOAL, SO I'M HOPING TO MAKE IT EVEN FURTHER WITH MY GROWTH.

FOR ME, I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO GET BETTER AT MATH SO THAT I GO INTO MIDDLE SCHOOL WITH A CLEAR UNDERSTANDING ABOUT MATH.

MY GOAL IS I HOPE TO TEST OUT OF I-READY IN MIDDLE SCHOOL SO I DON'T HAVE TO DO IT.

THIS WAY. ONE OF MY NEW GOALS IS TO BE BETTER AT MATH, AND THEN I CAN HIT A POINT IN MATH WHERE, IT'S LIKE A BIGGER LEVEL THAN WHERE I'M SUPPOSED TO BE.

OH, MY GOAL IS TO, LIKE, HAVE, WELL, I HAVEN'T FINISHED MY DIAGNOSTIC YET, SO I WANT TO GET, LIKE, HIGH ON THAT.

YEAH.

STOP THESE OTHER QUESTIONS.

ONE LAST QUESTION. WOULD ONE OF YOU PLEASE INTRODUCE YOUR TEACHER? HOW DO I DO THAT? JUST SAY MY TEACHER IS.

AND THEN TELL ME THE NAME OF YOUR TEACHER IS TONYA KING.

TONYA KING. ALL RIGHT.

OR MISS OR MISS KB.

SO I CAN'T TELL YOU HOW MUCH THIS WARMS MY HEART.

I HAVE SPENT MY ENTIRE 40 PLUS YEARS CAREER USING DATA TO HELP UNDERSTAND STUDENT LEARNING, AND TO HELP TEACHERS AND ADMINISTRATORS AND KIDS USE DATA TO HELP UNDERSTAND WHERE THEY ARE AND THEIR PROGRESS.

JUST LIKE WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT AND TO HELP SET GOALS.

SO WHEN I WAS TALKING TO YOU OUT IN THE ENTRYWAY, ONE OF YOU SAID TO ASK YOU SOME QUESTIONS, THAT WOULD BE A HARD QUESTION. YES.

SO, NO, THIS IS I'M INTERESTED IN YOUR THINKING, WHILE THE DATA YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT IS SO IMPORTANT.

AND THIS WAS SO EXCITING TO HEAR YOU DO THIS.

BUT WHERE ELSE IN REAL LIFE DO PEOPLE USE DATA? I THINK THAT DATA ISN'T JUST USED IN TESTS AS YOU SCORE.

I THINK IT'S ALSO ON LIKE HOW WELL YOU DO IN SOMETHING AND ANYTHING LIKE IN YOUR JOB OR YEAH, YEAH.

NO GOOD. WHERE ELSE? WHAT OTHER SUBJECTS DO YOU AS YOU'RE WORKING IN SCHOOL? DO YOU EVER COLLECT DATA, FOR EXAMPLE? YOU CAN USE DATA.

YOU CAN GO..

DATA CAN ALSO BE FOUND IN SCIENCE DEPENDING ON IT'S LIKE WHETHER IF IT'S LIKE A LIFE FORM OR LIKE A FISH TANK, YOU CAN BE IT CAN BE FOUND IN SCIENCE ALSO.

YEAH. IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT IN SCIENCE TO HELP UNDERSTAND SCIENCE BETTER BY LOOKING AT DATA AND UNDERSTANDING IT.

AND WHEN YOU HAVE A HYPOTHESIS, DOES THE DATA SUPPORT IT OR NOT SUPPORT IT? ALL OF THE MATH THAT YOU DO IS A VERSION OF DATA.

SO WHAT YOU'RE USING IT FOR, FOR HELPING YOU WILL BE USED IN SO MANY WAYS IN YOUR LIFE.

AND I'M SO PROUD TO HEAR OF HOW WELL YOU'RE AWARE OF HOW IMPORTANT THIS DATA IS TO YOUR LEARNING.

[00:30:01]

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR DOING THAT VIDEO.

IT MADE MY WEEK.

ANYTHING ELSE? ALL RIGHT. SO HELLO.

SO I GOT A QUESTION FOR ALL OF YOU.

SO RECENTLY I GOT OKAY, SO RECENTLY THERE WAS A ASSIGNMENT THAT WAS PAST DUE.

IT WAS WORTH FOUR POINTS AND I GOT A ZERO.

WHAT DOES THAT TELL ABOUT ME? WHAT SHOULD I WORK ON? DOING YOUR WORK.

ALL RIGHT. I'LL MAKE SURE TO DO THAT WHEN I GET HOME TONIGHT.

AND. AND IT SEEMS LIKE ALL OF YOU ARE REALLY LOVE DATA.

HAVE ANY OF YOU HEARD ABOUT DATA SCIENCE? NO, I DON'T THINK SO.

OKAY, WELL, WHEN 20 YEARS INTO YOUR FUTURE.

OR WHO KNOWS WHEN WHEN YOU GROW UP DATA SCIENCE IS WHERE YOU USE DATA TO MAKE AN INSIGHT AND ANALYSIS OF WHAT YOU GIVE IN. SO IF YOU LIKE TO WORK WITH DATA LIKE WHAT YOU ARE NOW, THIS IS SOMETHING YOU MIGHT WANT TO LOOK INTO.

YEAH. WHAT DO YOU THINK? YES, SIR. ALL RIGHT.

ALL RIGHT. HOPE YOU LOOK INTO IT.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR PRESENTATION.

WE KNOW EXACTLY.

I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THERE'S ANYTHING ELSE YOU'D LIKE TO SHARE WITH US, BECAUSE IT LOOKED LIKE THERE WERE A COUPLE OF FOLKS THAT WERE JUST ITCHING TO GET TO THAT MICROPHONE.

I WOULD LIKE TO SAY ONE MORE LAST THING.

I HOPE THAT DATA CAN GET, LIKE, AROUND TO OTHER SCHOOLS, BECAUSE ME PERSONALLY, I THINK IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT BECAUSE WHEN I JUST FINISHED A TEST OR LIKE A DAY LATER BEFORE I FINISH A TEST AND I GO BACK HOME, MY MOM AND MY PARENTS ALWAYS ASK ME, HOW DID YOU DO? WHAT DID YOU GET? WHAT'S YOUR SCORE? AND I ALWAYS SAY, I DON'T KNOW BECAUSE THE TEACHERS DON'T TELL ME AND THEY DON'T TELL ME HOW GOOD I DID.

BUT NOW THAT WE DO, NOW THAT, WE DO DATA CHATS IN OUR CLASS, WHEN I GO BACK HOME, I ACTUALLY CAN TELL MY PARENTS HOW I DID AND MY PROGRESS BECAUSE, LATELY MY PARENTS HAVE BEEN ASKING ME HOW I DID, AND I TELL THEM, AND, THEY'RE REALLY PROUD OF ME, SO I REALLY HOPE THAT DATA CHESS AND LIKE, DATA MEETINGS CAN GO AROUND LIKE TO OTHER SCHOOLS TO, HELP THE KIDS DO BETTER.

BECAUSE IF YOU DO LIKE, BAD, YOU CAN LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKES AND YOU CAN DO BETTER FOR THE NEXT TEST BECAUSE YOU TAKE THREE TESTS IN A YEAR.

SO THAT'S WHY I THINK IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT, BECAUSE I LEARNED FROM MY MISTAKES, AND I DID WAY BETTER THAN I DID THE LAST TIME I DID IT, AND I'M REALLY HAPPY BECAUSE OF MY PROGRESS. THAT IS EXCELLENT.

THANK YOU SO MUCH. WHAT A GREAT ROLE MODEL.

ANYONE ELSE? ANY OTHER ADVICE ANYBODY WANTS TO GIVE? BECAUSE THERE ARE LOTS OF PEOPLE, NOT JUST HERE.

BUT I SHOULDN'T SCARE YOU.

BUT THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO ARE WATCHING ON VIDEO AS WELL.

I WANTED TO SAY THAT A LOT OF TIMES EVERYONE IS ALWAYS FOCUSING ON LIKE YOUR DATA AND YOUR GROWTH, BUT I REALLY THINK THEY NEVER TALK ABOUT THE REASON BEHIND IT, AS IN LIKE HOW MUCH WORK YOU ACTUALLY HAD TO DO IN ORDER TO GET THERE.

SO, I THINK EVERYONE WORKED REALLY HARD TO GET WHERE THEY ARE AND HAD A LOT OF GROWTH.

SO, GOOD JOB.

AND, YEAH.

YEAH.

YEAH. OKAY.

BYE. YOU MADE A VERY IMPORTANT POINT THERE.

I'M BACK WITH THAT ANSWER ABOUT DATA OUTSIDE OF TESTING.

OH, GOOD.

YOU COULD USE IT FOR FISHING.

TELL US HOW.

WELL YOU COULD SPEND AN HOUR CATCHING FISH.

AND USE THAT DATA TO SEE IF HOW MANY FISH ARE IN THERE.

THE DATA OF HOW MANY FISH TO SEE IF IT'S A GOOD POND.

OKAY. AND COMPARE IT TO WHEN YOU FISHED THERE LAST TIME OR IN OTHER PLACES.

I WOULD JUST LIKE TO SAY I WISH THAT MORE TEACHERS DID DATA CHATS, BECAUSE THAT WAS THE FIRST DATA CHAT THAT I HAVE EVER HAD WAS WITH MISS KB, AND IT SHOULDN'T BE WHEN I'M IN FIFTH GRADE.

I SHOULD HAVE IT EVERY YEAR, NOT JUST ONE OCCASIONALLY.

[00:35:01]

SO MAYBE YOU CAN SHARE THIS ACROSS YOUR SCHOOL AND GET IT GOING THERE, AND THEN REACH OUT TO OTHER SCHOOLS AND SHARE THIS.

YOU'D BE A GREAT AMBASSADOR OF DATA.

BE A DATA AMBASSADOR.

YEAH. ANYTHING ELSE.

OH, ANY MORE QUESTIONS? EVERY I KNOW, EVERY STUDENT UP THERE HAD SOMETHING TO SAY.

I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE YOU HAD A CHANCE TO SAY IT.

WAIT. WHAT? ME? NO. SO I JUST WANT TO SAY THAT I JUST WANT TO THANK MY TEACHER BECAUSE, LIKE SOPHIA AND JOSHUA SAID, WAS, WE DON'T DO THIS ENOUGH.

AND BEFORE NOT KNOWING, JUST LIKE BEING LIKE IN THE BLUE, LIKE UNAWARE OF YOUR DATA AND YOUR GROWTH AND WHERE YOU ARE RIGHT NOW JUST KIND OF MAKES YOU FREAK OUT A LITTLE BIT.

SO IT'S BETTER KNOWING AND IT'S BETTER WORKING HARDER TO GET THERE AND THEN SEEING YOUR RESULT AND LIKE YOUR GROWTH AND STUFF.

SO I'M KIND OF GLAD THAT MY TEACHER SHOWED ME THAT.

SO BECAUSE NOW I GUESS I FEEL BETTER.

AND, YES.

YOU. IN CONCLUSION, AS ZANDER SAYS.

YOUR SHIP OR WHATEVER TILL MY TEACHER SAYS IT'S YOUR SHIP.

AND SHE IS I DON'T KNOW A PERSON IN IT, AND WE'RE, LIKE, BOARDING IT OR SOMETHING, AND LIKE, I DON'T KNOW, BUT IT MAKES SENSE WHEN SHE SAYS IT, YOU KNOW, AND IT'S IT'S BETTER, BUT LIKE.

OH, YEAH? YEAH. I THOUGHT YOU SAID YOU DO THE WORK.

OH, THAT'S GREAT TOO, SOFIA.

I WOULD JUST LIKE TO SAY ONE MORE THING.

I WANT TO SAY THANK YOU TO MY TEACHER, TO MY CLASSMATES.

BECAUSE, ESPECIALLY THE KIDS THAT SIT AROUND ME, EVERY TIME WE DO MATH OR READING, THEY ALWAYS HELP ME, GET BETTER AT IT, BECAUSE, MISS KB AND THE CLASSROOM.

I'VE NEVER DONE MATH THE WAY THAT SHE DOES IT, BECAUSE EVERY YEAR I'VE DONE MATH, IT'S ALWAYS BEEN, LIKE, BORING.

AND I'VE NEVER WANTED TO DO IT.

BUT THIS YEAR, MISS KB ALWAYS MAKES EVERYTHING FUN.

AND SHE TRIES EVERYTHING IN HER WAY TO MAKE US SMILE AND TO MAKE US ENJOY EVERY SUBJECT THAT WE DO.

AND I WANT TO THANK HER FOR THAT, BECAUSE I'VE NEVER HAD A TEACHER THAT'S EVER DONE THAT TO ME.

AND I WANT TO THANK MY CLASSMATES FOR HELPING ME AND, BEING THERE WHEN I NEEDED, LIKE, THEIR HELP AND MISS KB.

THANK YOU. THAT'S A GREAT WAY TO END THIS I APPRECIATE.

WELL, NOW I'D LIKE TO WELCOME PRINCIPAL DANIELLE SANDERS, WHO HAS THE UNENVIABLE TASK OF FOLLOWING THAT AMAZING PRESENTATION FROM OUR STUDENTS.

BUT I KNOW SHE WILL RISE TO THE OCCASION.

SO WELCOME, PRINCIPAL SANDERS.

THANK YOU AND I'M SORRY.

I WILL NOT BE QUITE AS ENGAGING AS THEY ARE, BUT THEY ARE SO SMART AND I'M SO GLAD THAT THEY GOT TO COME HERE TONIGHT AND TELL YOU ABOUT WHAT THEY'RE LEARNING.

DO I HAVE? DOES THIS.

OKAY? PERFECT.

SO I'M DANIELLE SANDERS.

I'M THE PRINCIPAL AT BEVERLY ELEMENTARY.

THIS IS MY 10TH YEAR IN THE EDMOND SCHOOL DISTRICT AND MY 10TH YEAR AT BEVERLY.

I WANT TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT OUR FIRST SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT PLAN GOAL, WHICH IS IN READING.

AND OUR GOAL IS THAT THE PERCENTAGE OF STUDENTS IN GRADES ONE THROUGH THREE, READING AT GRADE LEVEL, WILL INCREASE FROM 57% IN THE SPRING OF 2021 TO 66% IN THE SPRING OF 2024, AS MEASURED BY THE I-READY READING DIAGNOSTIC.

WE CHOSE THIS GOAL TO TALK ABOUT TONIGHT BECAUSE IT IS THE FOCUS OF MOST OF OUR WORK THIS YEAR.

WE BELIEVE THAT LITERACY IS A FUNDAMENTAL HUMAN RIGHT FOR EVERYONE.

IT'S THE FOUNDATION OF ALL LEARNING, AND IT'S SOMETHING THAT WE NEED FOR CRITICAL THINKING, FOR COMMUNICATION AND FOR DECISION MAKING.

SO OUR THEORY OF ACTION IS THAT IF WE ALIGN OUR INSTRUCTIONAL AND ASSESSMENT PRACTICES, STUDENTS WILL RECEIVE CONSISTENT, HIGH LEVEL INSTRUCTION OVER THE COURSE OF THEIR TIME AT BEVERLY. AND WITH CONSISTENT HIGH LEVEL INSTRUCTION, STUDENTS WILL BECOME STRONGER READERS.

WE HAVE TWO STRATEGIES TO WORK TOWARDS OUR GOAL.

THE FIRST STRATEGY IS THAT ALL STAFF WILL LEARN SYSTEMS AND PROTOCOLS FOR COLLABORATIVELY, REVIEWING DATA REGULARLY, AND ADJUSTING AND DIFFERENTIATING INSTRUCTION AS NEEDED TO ENSURE THAT INSTRUCTION IS EFFECTIVE FOR ALL STUDENTS.

[00:40:01]

AND OUR SECOND STRATEGY IS THAT ALL STAFF WILL LEARN ABOUT AND IMPLEMENT THE 95% CORE PHONICS PROGRAM AS PART OF AN ONGOING EFFORT TO STRENGTHEN AND SOLIDIFY OUR TIER ONE INSTRUCTION. AND WE CHOSE THESE STRATEGIES BECAUSE WE WANT TO BE SURE THAT WE ARE ALIGNED WITH STANDARDS THAT ARE STRUCTURES AND PRACTICES BETWEEN THE CLASSROOMS AT THE GRADE LEVEL AND BETWEEN GRADE LEVELS ARE ALIGNED SO THAT STUDENTS AREN'T HAVING TO ADJUST THEIR ROUTINES EVERY YEAR AND LEARN NEW THINGS.

WE WANT TO USE OUR DISTRICT PROVIDED RESOURCES, AND WE WANT TEACHERS TO HAVE AN UNDERSTANDING OF THE DATA AND HOW TO USE IT TO BETTER SERVE STUDENTS.

WE USE A NUMBER OF ASSESSMENTS TO MONITOR OUR PROGRESS.

THOSE ARE SOME FOURTH GRADERS ENJOYING SOME READING CELEBRATION TIME WITH FLASHLIGHTS.

WE USE THE I-READY READING DIAGNOSTIC.

WE USE A CADENCE.

WE USE TEACHERS COLLEGE RUNNING RECORDS SCHOOL WIDE.

AND THEN IN THE CLASSROOM, TEACHERS ARE USING THE 95% PHONICS ASSESSMENTS AND OTHER CURRICULUM BASED MEASURES.

THIS IS OUR PROGRESS.

IT STARTS IN THE FALL OF 2021 AND IT GOES FALL, WINTER, SPRING FROM THAT SCHOOL YEAR AND THEN FALL OF 2022, WINTER, SPRING FROM THAT SCHOOL YEAR, AND THEN THIS PAST FALL.

SO IF YOU LOOK AT THE COHORT DATA, YOU CAN SEE HOW KIDS GROW.

SO IN THE FIRST ONE, FIRST FALL, THOSE FIRST GRADERS ARE THE THIRD GRADERS IN OUR LAST COHORT.

YOU'LL NOTICE THAT OUR THIRD GRADE COHORT IN THIS LAST ONE IS A LITTLE BIT LOWER.

IT STARTS OUT A LITTLE BIT LOWER THAN IN PREVIOUS YEARS.

THESE ARE THE COVID KIDDOS WHO STARTED KINDERGARTEN REMOTELY, AND WE'RE SEEING A LITTLE BIT OF STRUGGLE BUILDING UP SOME OF THOSE FOUNDATIONAL SKILLS.

OH. I'M SORRY, I DON'T WANT TO INTERRUPT YOU, BUT IT WAS SOMETHING THAT I DIDN'T REALIZE THE FIRST TIME, SO I JUST FOR OUR AUDIENCE TO KNOW WHEN IT SAYS READING AT OR ABOVE GRADE LEVEL, I CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG.

THAT IS AT THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR.

SO, LIKE WHAT THE LEVEL WOULD BE AT THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR? SO THE FACT THAT THE NUMBERS ARE REALLY LOW AT THE BEGINNING DOES NOT MEAN THEY'RE BEHIND.

IT MEANS THEY HAVE NOT ACHIEVED WHAT THEY SHOULD ACHIEVE AT THE END OF THAT GRADE.

YES. THANK YOU.

AND THEN THE LAST SLIDE IS OUR SCHOOL WIDE PROGRESS CASE SIX AT THE END OF EACH YEAR.

AND YOU CAN SEE WE'RE GROWING STEADILY BUT A LITTLE SLOWLY TOWARDS 50%.

AND THAT'S THE END OF MY SLIDES.

SO NOW I GET TO ANSWER QUESTIONS.

I LIKE YOUR USE OF DATA.

THANK YOU. I LEARNED A LOT.

I'M WONDERING IF, IN LIGHT OF WHAT WE HEARD TONIGHT, ABOUT HOW POWERFUL IT IS WHEN STUDENTS ARE THE ONES USING THE DATA AND HAVING THOSE DATA CHATS WITH THEIR TEACHERS, IF THAT MIGHT BECOME A BUILDING WIDE FOCUS TO ENGAGE MORE KIDS IN LOOKING AT THEIR OWN PROGRESS AND SETTING THEIR GOALS WITH WITH THEIR TEACHERS, IS THAT SOMETHING THAT MIGHT BE CONSIDERED? IT IS BEING CONSIDERED.

I THINK MISS KB WOULD READILY AGREE THAT SHE'S BEING APPROACHED BY TEACHERS ON A REGULAR BASIS ABOUT HOW SHE DOES A DATA CHAT AND HOW SHE USES THAT INFORMATION WITH STUDENTS. SO I THINK WE'RE MOVING THAT DIRECTION.

WE HAVEN'T QUITE HIT LIKE MASS CRITICAL MASS YET.

OKAY. THANK YOU. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THAT PRESENTATION AND FOR SHOWING HOW ADULTS USE DATA TOO.

THERE'S ONE PLACE THAT I THINK IT MIGHT BENEFIT TO HAVE SOME CLARIFICATION.

AND IF YOU COULD CLARIFY WHAT TIER ONE INSTRUCTION IS, I THINK THAT WOULD BE HELPFUL FOR EVERYBODY.

OF COURSE, OUR TIER ONE INSTRUCTION IS THE INSTRUCTION THAT ALL STUDENTS RECEIVE IN THEIR GENERAL EDUCATION CLASSROOM.

SO IT'S IT'S EDUCATION FOR ALL STUDENTS.

AND THEN THERE'S A TIER TWO AND A TIER THREE.

TIER TWO STUDENTS GET A LITTLE BIT OF EXTRA SUPPORT.

USUALLY THINGS LIKE TIDAL READING AND THEN TIER THREE SUPPORT IS EVEN MORE ADDITIONAL SUPPORT ON TOP OF THAT.

THAT OFTEN WILL REPLACE A TIER ONE.

AND YOU USE THAT ALL OF THIS DATA TO DECIDE CORRECT WHERE KIDS ARE.

THANKS FOR THAT CLARIFICATION.

ANYTHING ELSE? YEAH.

SO, SO IT WAS ON SLIDE FIVE WITH THE UPDATE ON PROGRESS.

I SEE THE DATA.

I, I WOULD HAVE, I WOULD HAVE THOUGHT IF THERE WAS A WAY WE COULD INSTEAD OF DOING THE IF YOU COULD GROUP THESE BY COHORT.

SO, SO HAVING THE FIRST GRADE IN THE FALL, 21 THROUGH 22, SPRING 22 AND THEN USING THAT SAME COHORT WITH THE SAME COLOR CODE OR

[00:45:02]

OTHER INDICATION FOR THE 22-23 SCHOOL YEAR, LIKE GROUP THEM BY COHORT TO SEE, TO TRACK THE PROGRESS BY COHORT RATHER THAN THE GRADE LEVEL FOR THAT YEAR.

YOU MAKE A GOOD POINT.

I SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN SOME STUDENT HELP.

SO IT'S A GOOD POINT, KEVIN.

I WAS THINKING THE SAME THING.

THEN YOU WANT TO SAY ANYTHING? YOU'RE GOOD.

YEAH. I WAS JUST KIND OF TALKING ABOUT THE SAME KIND OF THING, KNOWING A KID WHO STARTED THEIR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DURING COVID.

AND THERE'S OBVIOUSLY SOME, YOU KNOW, HARDSHIP AND LACK OF SOME LEARNING LOSS THERE.

SO. IS THERE ANYTHING SPECIFICALLY LEARNING WISE, GOALS TYPES, STUFF LIKE THAT FOR KIDS WHO ARE FALLING INTO THAT CATEGORY? WELL, WE'RE ACTUALLY VERY FORTUNATE BECAUSE THIS YEAR OUR DISTRICT HAS ADDED ADDITIONAL READING SUPPORT FOR KIDS IN GRADES THREE THROUGH SIX THAT WE'VE NOT BEEN ABLE TO PROVIDE BEFORE. SO THAT'S BEEN A GREAT HELP TO OUR KIDDOS WHO HAVE, YOU KNOW, HAVE A LITTLE LEARNING LOSS AFTER COVID BUT HAVE REACHED BEYOND WHERE OUR TIDAL SUPPORTS HAVE ENDED IN THE PAST. GREAT.

ANYTHING ELSE? THANK YOU SO MUCH.

KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK AT BEVERLY.

WE APPRECIATE IT.

THANK YOU FOR HAVING US.

NEXT WE HAVE THE SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT.

[8. SUPERINTENDENT REPORT-7:05 pm]

JUST A BRIEF REPORT THIS EVENING.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BEING HERE.

TO OUR BEVERLY STUDENTS, JUST A BRIEF REPORT THIS EVENING.

JANUARY IS SCHOOL BOARD APPRECIATION MONTH.

SO YOU'LL SEE ON OUR SIDE BOARD HERE WE HAVE A SHOWER OF GRATITUDE FOR OUR SCHOOL BOARD.

ALL OF YOUR INVESTMENTS IN OUR DISTRICT, OF YOUR TIME, OF YOUR INSIGHTS, OF YOUR BRILLIANCE, CONTRIBUTE TO US GROWING BRIGHT FLOWERS IN THE GARDEN OF OUR DISTRICT. I HOPE YOU'LL TAKE A LITTLE TIME TO READ THE COMMENTS THAT STAFF WROTE TO YOU ABOUT YOUR WORK AND YOUR EFFORTS, AND THEN I HAVE A CERTIFICATE FOR EACH ONE OF YOU FROM WASEDA TO THANK YOU FOR YOUR WORK.

SO LET'S GIVE THE BOARD A ROUND OF APPLAUSE.

THAT'S A NICE SURPRISE.

I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW WHO HER SCHOOL BOARD RECOGNITION.

THANK YOU SO MUCH. I REALLY I LOVE THE THE.

CAN'T WAIT TO GO READ SOME OF THE COMMENTS OVER THERE.

YEAH. PUT TOGETHER BY OUR COMMUNICATIONS DEPARTMENT AND THEN MANY OTHER FOLKS CONTRIBUTED TO THE MESSAGING.

THANK YOU TO THE COMMUNICATIONS DEPARTMENT AND ALL THE STAFF THAT PARTICIPATED IN THAT.

WE REALLY APPRECIATE THAT.

IT'S. PUT IT IN A PROMINENT PLACE.

OKAY. IS THAT THE FULL REPORT? EXCELLENT. EXCELLENT REPORT.

I HAVE TO SAY, NEXT ON THE AGENDA IS APPROVAL OF MINUTES.

[9. APPROVAL OF MINUTES-7:10 pm]

AND SO I'LL DO THE TWO TOGETHER SINCE THEY WERE BOTH ON THE SAME EVENING.

WE HAVE THE MINUTES FROM THE JANUARY 9TH SPECIAL MEETING, WHERE WE HAD A STUDY SESSION ON OUR MATH AND HEALTH CURRICULUM AND THE MINUTES FROM THE REGULAR BUSINESS MEETING, ALSO ON JANUARY 9TH.

DO I HEAR A MOTION TO APPROVE AND A SECOND MOVE TO APPROVE? I'LL SECOND. I'VE HEARD A MOTION TO APPROVE AND A SECOND.

IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION? HEARING NONE. I'LL CALL FOR A VOTE.

EVERYBODY IN FAVOR OF APPROVING THE MINUTES FROM THE JANUARY 9TH SPECIAL MEETING AND THE JANUARY 9TH REGULAR BUSINESS MEETING, PLEASE INDICATE BY SAYING AYE.

AYE.

ALL THOSE OPPOSED SAY NAY.

ANY ABSTENTIONS.

I ABSTAIN. AND THE MINUTES FROM THE JANUARY 9TH SPECIAL MEETING AND REGULAR BUSINESS MEETING ARE APPROVED.

NEXT WE HAVE PUBLIC COMMENTS.

[10. PUBLIC COMMENTS-7:15 pm]

NEED SOME HELP? OH, YEAH.

I WAS LIKE, WHAT IS AARON? I'LL START WITH THE INTRODUCTION.

THERE WE GO. SO THE PUBLIC COMMENT SECTION OF THE AGENDA IS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR PEOPLE TO ADDRESS THE SCHOOL BOARD.

SINCE THIS IS A BUSINESS MEETING OF THE SCHOOL BOARD, THE PURPOSE OF PUBLIC COMMENTS IS FOR THOSE INTERESTED TO COMMUNICATE WITH THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS ABOUT ITEMS ON THE AGENDA OR SPECIFIC WORK WITHIN THE SCOPE OF THE SCHOOL DISTRICT.

THIS IS NOT A TIME FOR THE AUDIENCE TO ADDRESS EACH OTHER.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THEY ARE THAT WE ARE THAT TWO CHANGES IN THE STRUCTURE THAT WE'VE MADE RECENTLY.

ONE IS WE'RE ASKING THAT YOU BEGIN YOUR COMMENT BY STATING YOUR NAME, YOUR CITY OF RESIDENCE, YOUR RELATIONSHIP TO THE DISTRICT, AND THE AGENDA ITEM OR SCHOOL DISTRICT TOPIC THAT YOU'RE ADDRESSING.

AND WE WE REQUEST THAT IF YOUR COMMENT CONSISTS WHOLLY OR PARTLY OF TEXT THAT'S VERBATIM FROM AN ARTICLE OR AN ONLINE POST OR AN EXCERPT FROM A BOOK, ETC., THAT YOU WOULD SIMPLY SEND US THE LINK TO THAT AND THEN SPEND YOUR COMMENT TELLING US HOW THAT INFORMATION IS USEFUL TO US.

[00:50:02]

ITEMS BROUGHT FORTH DURING THIS PORTION OF THE MEETING ARE NOT TYPICALLY ADDRESSED OR ACTED UPON BY THE BOARD AT THIS TIME, BUT MAY BE FOLLOWED UP BY THE BOARD, THE SUPERINTENDENT, AND OR STAFF AT A LATER TIME.

PEOPLE MAY SUBMIT PUBLIC COMMENTS FOR A BOARD MEETING IN THREE DIFFERENT WAYS ONE.

YOU CAN CHOOSE TO READ YOUR COMMENT ALOUD IN PERSON.

TWO YOU MAY CHOOSE TO READ YOUR COMMENT ALOUD VIRTUALLY.

AND TONIGHT WE HAVE NOBODY WHO'S CHOSEN THAT.

AND THREE YOU MAY CHOOSE TO SUBMIT YOUR COMMENT IN WRITING.

WE HAD ONE COMMENT IN WRITING FROM A STUDENT WHO THANKED OUR RETIRED DIRECTOR, NOBLE, FOR THE WORK THAT HE DID IN HELPING START A BLACK STUDENT UNION, GROUP AT HIS SCHOOL.

THE BOARD READS ALL WRITTEN COMMENTS, WHICH ARE LATER ATTACHED TO THE MEETING AGENDA AND AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC ON THE BOARD DOCS WEBSITE.

THE BOARD ALSO ACCEPTS WRITTEN COMMENTS AND QUESTIONS AT ANY TIME THROUGH EMAIL.

WE READ EACH COMMENT AND EMAIL THAT WE RECEIVE, AND WE APPRECIATE THE TIME AND EFFORT THAT IT TAKES FOR THOSE WHO WRITE THEM.

WHILE WE ENCOURAGE AND APPRECIATE PUBLIC COMMENTS, PLEASE LIMIT YOUR COMMENTS THAT ARE READ TO THREE MINUTES.

IF A COMMENT BECOMES TOO LENGTHY, I MAY NEED TO INTERRUPT IN ORDER TO ALLOW EACH PERSON EQUAL TIME.

WE ALSO ASK THOSE WHO ARE MAKING A PUBLIC COMMENT DURING A BOARD MEETING TO PLEASE MAKE THEIR STATEMENTS IN A CIVIL MANNER, WITHOUT DISPARAGING NAME CALLING OR OTHERWISE TARGETING ANY ONE PERSON OR GROUP IN THE DISTRICT.

SIMILARLY, WE ASK EVERYONE IN THE AUDIENCE TO PLEASE SHOW RESPECT BY LISTENING QUIETLY, WITHOUT TALKING OR WHISPERING TO EACH OTHER SO THAT EVERYONE CAN HEAR EACH COMMENT.

TONIGHT WE HAVE.

THE LAST TIME I LOOKED, WE HAD THREE.

NOW WE HAVE FOUR.

OKAY. THE FIRST ONE IS IS CHRISTIE MULLET.

AND YOU CAN USE THE MIC RIGHT HERE.

HOPEFULLY IT'S ON.

HI. HI.

I MIGHT HAVE TO STAND ON MY TIPTOES.

SO HERE WE GO. THERE YOU GO.

I'M USED TO THAT.

MY NAME IS CHRISTY MULLET.

I LIVE IN EDMONDS, WASHINGTON.

I HAVE HAD TWO KIDS GO THROUGH MAPLEWOOD PARENT COOPERATIVE K-3, AND I HAVE A SOPHOMORE AT MEADOWDALE.

I'M CURRENTLY, SO I AM JUST HERE TO GET SOME CLARIFICATION.

I HAVE A CLARIFICATION QUESTION, AND I BELIEVE I EMAILED KAREN AND I EMAILED NANCY, ABOUT YOUR UNFINISHED BUSINESS REGARDING THE REVISED BOARD POLICY ON FIELD TRIPS.

SO I JUST MY PRINCIPAL SHOWED ME THIS A COUPLE WEEKS AGO THAT YOU'RE GOING TO STRIKE OUT THE PRINCIPAL'S APPROVAL FOR PRIVATE TRANSPORTATION, AND THAT'S FINE. I JUST WANTED CLARIFICATION, THAT THE EDMONDS SCHOOL DISTRICT STILL WILL ALLOW PRIVATE TRANSPORTATION AS LONG AS THE PROTOCOLS ARE MET IN, THE PAPERWORK IS DONE. SO THAT'S MY ONLY COMMENT.

SO HOPEFULLY YOU CAN ADDRESS THAT WHEN YOU'RE GOING TO, APPROVE.

BUT IF IT ISN'T APPROVED BY THE EDMONDS SCHOOL DISTRICT, I WOULD PLEASE ASK TO TAKE THIS, OFF THE TABLE TO WHERE WE CAN TALK MORE ABOUT THIS, BECAUSE I WAS JUST RECENTLY APPRIZED OF THIS AND I HAVE SOME THOUGHTS.

SO THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.

AND WE WILL HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY DURING THE DISCUSSION PERIOD.

THANK YOU FOR RELATING IT DIRECTLY TO AN AGENDA ITEM.

NEXT IS KATHY BATSON.

HI, I'M KATHY BATSON.

I AM A TEACHER AT MEADOWDALE ELEMENTARY.

I LIVE IN LYNNWOOD, I.

JUST WANT TO DISCUSS THE ISSUE AT MEADOWDALE THAT WE'RE FACING WITH THE SITUATION THAT OCCURRED, AS YOU WELL KNOW, AND I WANTED TO TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO PUBLICLY THANK YOU SO MUCH.

PARTICULARLY DOCTOR MINER.

BECAUSE YOU LEAD THE HELM.

AND I JUST WANT TO SAY HOW DEEPLY WE APPRECIATE THE RESPONSE THAT WAS THAT HAPPENED.

FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT MOST PEOPLE KNOW THAT OUR BUILDING WAS DAMAGED IN THE BURST PIPES AND OUR LARGE PORTION OF OUR SCHOOL WAS WAS DAMAGED, AND I WAS BLESSED THAT I DIDN'T.

I WAS VERY FORTUNATE THAT I DID NOT HAVE MY OWN CLASSROOM, BUT SO MANY OF OUR, YOU KNOW, COLLEAGUES, OF COURSE, THEIR CLASSROOMS WERE JUST, YOU KNOW, WIPED OUT. AND I JUST WANT TO SAY I WE THIS DISTRICT HAS HAD A HISTORY OF POOR COMMUNICATION.

THERE'S BEEN ISSUES, AND I JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU BECAUSE.

IT WAS VERY, IT JUST MEANT A LOT TO US AS A STAFF.

[00:55:02]

AS YOU CAN IMAGINE, IT'S VERY EMOTIONAL.

ALL THESE THINGS CAME BACK FROM THE SHUTDOWN, AND I WAS KIND OF.

I KNEW IT AFFECTED ME, BUT I DIDN'T KNOW HOW MUCH IT AFFECTED ME UNTIL THE THOUGHT OF GOING BACK ONLINE JUST HIT ME LIKE A BRICK AND TO COME IN.

SORRY, AND HAVE THE SUPPORT THAT YOU GAVE US.

LIKE THERE ARE SO MANY PEOPLE, EVEN PEOPLE BEHIND ME HERE THAT WERE THERE WITH THE, IT WASN'T JUST ME, I WASN'T EVEN IMPACTED THE SAME WAY.

BUT MY KIDS WERE AND THE THOUGHT OF GOING BACK TO REMOTE.

I COULD BARELY HANDLE THE THOUGHT OF IT.

AND I KNOW MY KIDS ARE INFECTED, AND I KNEW THAT THE IMPACT ON THEM WOULD BE SO GREAT.

AND I THE THE JUST THE TRIAGE THAT OCCURRED.

THE THE BAGS THAT WERE BROUGHT, THE THE TECH DEPARTMENT WAS PHENOMENAL.

THE I'M NOT EVEN, YOU KNOW, STUDENT LEARNING ALL OF THE PIECES WERE THERE AND THAT'S GOOD LEADERSHIP.

THAT'S GOOD LEADERSHIP.

AND WE HAVEN'T HAD THAT FOR A WHILE.

AND I REALLY AM SPEAKING FOR MY COLLEAGUES.

I KNOW HOW MUCH WE APPRECIATE, AND I JUST WANT TO TAKE THAT MOMENT TO TO SAY HOW MUCH WE APPRECIATE THAT AND WE LOOK FORWARD TO TWO MORE DAYS OF REMOTE AND THEN WE'RE IN PERSON.

CAN'T WAIT TO SEE MY KIDDOS AGAIN.

WE'RE GETTING SET UP AT THE OTHER BUILDING, AND I'M SO THANKFUL WE HAD THAT OPPORTUNITY TO BE IN THE OTHER BUILDING.

AND SO THANK YOU.

AND I JUST WANT TO THANK EVERYBODY ELSE THAT WAS AND I'M NOT EVEN THINKING ABOUT ALL OF THE PEOPLE THAT WERE INVOLVED.

I JUST THANK THEM FOR FOR US AND OTHER STAFF MEMBERS IN OUR SCHOOLS AS WELL THAT ARE MAYBE LISTENING TO THIS.

I WANT YOU TO KNOW HOW MUCH WE APPRECIATED IT, THE OTHER TEACHERS AND BUILDINGS AND SO FORTH.

SO THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

THANK YOU KATHY.

CAN I RESPOND? SORRY.

NEXT IS ANTHONY SHAPIRO.

GOOD EVENING. I WOULD LIKE TO ASK THE BOARD WHERE THEY THINK WE WILL BE IN THE NEXT 15 YEARS.

I'D LIKE TO MAKE A FEW POINTS REGARDING WHY A GROUP OF US ATTEND THESE MEETINGS, AND WHAT ARE THE CONCERNS THAT WE HAVE.

WHY HAVEN'T CITIZENS IN THE PAST ATTENDED THESE MEETINGS, WHETHER IT BE IN THE EDMONDS DISTRICT OR OTHER DISTRICTS ACROSS THIS COUNTRY, IN LARGE PART BECAUSE THE PUBLIC DISTRICTS IN THE PAST WERE DOING A REASONABLE JOB AND WERE CONSISTENT TEACHING TRADITIONAL, FOUNDATIONAL VALUES OF OUR COUNTRY.

YET TODAY WE SEE THIS DISTRICT AND MANY OTHERS FOCUSED ON ISSUES WHICH DO NOT ENHANCE THE ABILITY OF OUR STUDENTS TO PREPARE FOR THE CONSTRUCTIVE FUTURE AND FACE THE CHALLENGES THEY AND WE AS A SOCIETY WILL BE FACING IN THE VERY NEAR FUTURE.

WHILE THE TEST SCORES OF OUR STUDENTS CAN BE DESCRIBED AS AVERAGE AT BEST, THE BOARD IS ABSORBED WITH THE DISTRACTIONS OF DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION, ALONG WITH SEX EDUCATION AT INAPPROPRIATE AGE, TEACHING SEX AND EXPLICIT SEX ACTS TO LITTLE KIDS, WHETHER IT BE IN KINDERGARTEN OR YOUNG, ELEMENTARY GRADE OR EVEN HIGH SCHOOL.

IN THE NOT TOO DISTANT PAST, THESE WERE TABOO TO OUR SOCIETY, WHICH USED TO PROTECT THE INNOCENCE OF CHILDREN.

NOW WE BLATANTLY BRING THIS TYPE OF SUBJECT MATTER MATERIAL TO LIGHT, AS IF IT IS A NORMAL FOR CHILDREN TO BE CONSIDERING, DISCUSSING, AND EVEN BEING TAUGHT WHAT ISSUES THAT ARE VERY PRIVATE AND SHOULD NOT BE DISCUSSED IN A PUBLIC VENUE.

OR THE BOOKS THAT YOU SUPPORT OR PROMOTE ARE ACTING LIKE IT IS NORMAL AND EVEN DESIRABLE FOR A KID TO WANT TO BECOME THE OPPOSITE GENDER THAN EVEN HE OR SHE IS BORN. WE ARE NOT A BUNCH OF RADICAL RELIGIOUS ZEALOTS SOMEHOW ABSORBED WITH OUR FAITH 15 YEARS AGO.

OUR POINT OF VIEW WAS REGARDED AS NORMAL.

YET NOW YOU HAVE SHIFTED THE OVERTON WINDOW TO SAY THAT IT IS NO BIG DEAL FOR A MAN TO DRESS AS A WOMAN, AND LEWDLY DANCE IN FRONT OF ELEMENTARY KIDS AT A LIBRARY OR SCHOOL EVENT. YET TODAY, THE LEFT CLAIMS THAT WE ARE EXCESSIVELY ENGROSSED WITH OUR RELIGION TO THE POINT OF BEING ZEALOTS.

NO, WE ARE CONCERNED ABOUT THE FUTURE OF OUR SOCIETY BECAUSE OF WHAT YOU ARE DOING HERE TO OUR YOUTH, AND ULTIMATELY, THE DESTABILIZATION IMPACT IT WILL HAVE WILL BE ACCELERATING AS OUR SOCIETY MOVES FORWARD.

WHERE WILL WE BE IN THE NEXT 15 YEARS? THANK YOU. NEXT UP IS VINITA FRANCISCO.

HELLO, VINITA FRANCISCO.

I LIVE IN MOUNTLAKE TERRACE.

MY DAUGHTER IS AN EIGHTH GRADER AT BRIER TERRACE MIDDLE SCHOOL, AND SHE HAS GREATLY BENEFITED FROM THE DISTRICT TECHNOLOGY.

DURING WINTER BREAK, HER TSA TEAM WORKED ON THEIR PROJECT, AN EARLY EDUCATION BOOK ABOUT MEETING NEW PEOPLE.

[01:00:06]

EMILY THEN EMAILED AN ELEMENTARY TEACHER OF HERS AND IS GOING TO SHARE THEIR BOOK TOMORROW AFTERNOON WITH THE FIRST GRADE CLASS SO THEY CAN GET FEEDBACK AND IMPROVE IT BEFORE THEY PRESENT AT STATE LATER THIS SCHOOL YEAR.

DURING THE ICY DAYS, EMILY EMAILED HER MATH TEACHER AND SHE WAS ABLE TO WORK ON AN EXTRA ASSIGNMENT TO IMPROVE HER UNDERSTANDING AND FIX HER GRADE, WHICH IS WHY SHE'S NOT HERE TONIGHT. SHE'S HOME DOING SOME HOMEWORK, BUT SHE DID SEND ME A FILE THAT SHE WAS ABLE TO WRITE ON HER CHROMEBOOK AND THEN EMAIL ME.

HI, MY NAME IS EMILY, AND I GO TO BRIAR TERRACE MIDDLE SCHOOL.

I REALLY APPRECIATE OUR CHROMEBOOKS AND ALL THAT THEY DO FOR US.

MY FRIEND AND I REGULARLY WORK ON OUR STORIES TOGETHER DURING ADVISORY, EVEN THOUGH WE HAVE SEPARATE CLASSES.

I HAVE A LOT OF FUN DOING THIS AND ALL OF OUR OTHER THINGS THAT ARE CHROMEBOOKS LET US DO DURING THE SCHOOL DAY AND FOR HOMEWORK.

AND A LOT OF OUR CLASSES HAVE BECOME TECH RELIANT.

ALL OF THESE ARE REASONS WHY I THINK THAT TECH BOND SHOULD PASS.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.

THANKS. NEXT ON THE AGENDA IS OUR CONSENT AGENDA. OUR CONSENT AGENDA IS A GROUP OF PRETTY MUCH ROUTINE ITEMS THAT WE TEND TO VOTE ON TOGETHER, BUT WE CAN CERTAINLY SEPARATE IF

[11. CONSENT AGENDA-7:45 pm]

THERE'S ANY INTEREST ON ANY OF THE BOARD DIRECTORS PREFERENCE.

TONIGHT WE HAVE NINE ITEMS ON THE CONSENT AGENDA.

ACTUALLY EIGHT ITEMS. THREE OF THEM HAVE TO DO WITH PERSONNEL.

THREE OF THEM HAVE TO DO WITH BILLS AND VOUCHERS, AND TWO ARE FIELD TRIPS.

DO I HEAR A MOTION AND A SECOND TO APPROVE TONIGHT'S CONSENT AGENDA? MOVE TO APPROVE. SECOND.

I'VE HEARD A MOTION TO APPROVE.

AND A SECOND. IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION? I JUST HAVE TO CORRECT YOU FROM A COMMENT FROM EARLIER.

THE PERSONNEL ACTION LIST.

GARY WALTON, STUDENT INTERVENTION COORDINATOR FOR LUMINA HIGH SCHOOL, AS A CLASSIFIED RETIREMENT, WHICH WAS WHAT THE WRITTEN COMMENT WAS IN REFERENCE TO.

I'M SORRY.

KEVIN. COULD YOU REPEAT THAT? IN THE HR PERSONNEL ACTION IN THIS CONSENT AGENDA, GARY WALTON, THE STUDENT INTERVENTION COORDINATOR FOR LYNWOOD HIGH SCHOOL, IS LISTED AS A CLASSIFIED RETIREMENT, WHICH WAS WHAT THE WRITTEN COMMENT WAS IN REFERENCE TO.

OH, IT WASN'T GARY NOBLE IN THE WRITTEN COMMENT.

IT WAS GARY, THE STUDENT INTERVENTION COORDINATOR.

THANK YOU KEVIN.

OH THAT WASN'T THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR CLARIFYING THAT.

I DON'T KNOW WHY THAT I READ IT THE SAME WAY YOU DID, BUT I UNDERSTAND NOW.

OKAY. THANK YOU.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR CLARIFYING THAT I.

YES, I COMPLETELY GOT THAT WRONG.

ANY OTHER DISCUSSION, OR COMMENTS OR CLARIFICATIONS? OKAY. HEARING NONE, I'LL CALL FOR A VOTE.

ALL THOSE IN FAVOR OF APPROVING TONIGHT'S CONSENT AGENDA AS PRESENTED, PLEASE INDICATE BY SAYING AYE.

AYE. ALL THOSE OPPOSED SAY NAY.

ANY ABSTENTIONS? AND TONIGHT'S CONSENT AGENDA IS APPROVED AS PRESENTED.

NEXT WE HAVE REPORTS.

I'LL TURN IT OVER TO DOCTOR MINER.

[12. REPORTS-7:55 pm]

WE HAVE ONE REPORT THIS EVENING.

OUR BUSINESS AND FINANCE REPORT FOR NOVEMBER, BROUGHT TO US BY EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR LYDIA SELLIE.

OH, GREAT. EVERYTHING IS WORKING OKAY.

WE ARE ON THE NOVEMBER BUDGET STATUS REPORT, AND I JUST WANT TO LET YOU KNOW THAT WAS LOOKING AT GENERAL FUND TRENDS.

THEY'RE PRETTY CONSISTENT WITH A YEAR AGO EXCEPT THAT WE STARTED LOWER.

THERE ISN'T ANYTHING SIGNIFICANT TO REPORT.

AND THE REMAINING FOUR FUNDS AGAIN NOVEMBER IS, STILL BASED APPORTIONMENT IS BASED ON THE BUDGET AND IT WON'T TRUE UP TO OUR ACTUAL ENROLLMENT AND STAFF DATA UNTIL JANUARY.

ACTUALLY, HOPEFULLY IN A FEW DAYS.

SO WE'RE A LITTLE BIT BEHIND ON FEDERAL GRANTS.

WE DID SOME NEEDED TO DO SOME GRANT REVISIONS ON ESSER THREE.

THOSE HAVE BEEN COMPLETED.

SO WE WILL MAKE A FULL CLAIM.

FOR THE AMOUNTS FROM THE PREVIOUS MONTHS, YOU'LL SEE THAT FULL CLAIM COME THROUGH IN JANUARY AND THEN WE WILL GET CAUGHT UP.

THE OTHER, STATE AND FEDERAL GRANTS ARE ON SCHEDULE.

AGAIN, REGULAR APPORTIONMENTS BASED ON THE BUDGET, BUT ENROLLMENT IS COMING IN WELL.

AND SO I DON'T EXPECT ANY, SIGNIFICANT CHANGES UP OR DOWN.

DO WANT TO NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY, THE COST OF LABOR AND INDUSTRIES, ARE CLAIMS HAVE INCREASED.

SINCE, YOU KNOW, EVERYONE HAS RESUMED TO IN-PERSON LEARNING FOR THE LAST TWO YEARS.

[01:05:07]

AND SO L AND I COSTS ARE GOING BACK UP.

AND WE DO EXPECT AN INCREASE TO OUR EXPENDITURE ACCOUNTS IN JANUARY.

SO THAT WILL START SHOWING UP IN A FEW MONTHS.

AND THEN TRANSPORTATION FUNDING IS ALWAYS QUITE THE CHALLENGE BECAUSE WE ACTUALLY DON'T KNOW WHAT OUR FUNDING WILL BE UNTIL FEBRUARY.

SO YOU GO HALF THE YEAR WITH AN EXPECTATION AND HAVE TO WAIT HALF THE YEAR TO MAKE SURE THAT EXPECTATION IS REALIZED.

ON THIS PARTICULAR GRAPH, I TALKED ABOUT THE TREND ON FEDERAL REVENUE SOURCES AND WHY THAT'S LOW.

AND IT'S BECAUSE OF ESSER THREE, WHICH GETS CAUGHT UP, IN THE JANUARY REPORT.

ANOTHER REMINDER ON THE L AND I INCREASE STARTING THIS MONTH.

OUR DIRECTOR OF FINANCE AND I WILL TAKE A LOOK IN APRIL AND EVALUATE IF THE PAYROLL AMOUNT IS SUFFICIENT TO COVER OUR, CLAIMS COSTS OR IF THAT NEEDS TO BE ADJUSTED YET AGAIN, HOPEFULLY JUST ONCE THIS YEAR.

AND THEN ENDING FUND BALANCE.

SO WE HAD BUDGETED A PROJECTION OF A DECREASE OF 4.4 MILLION.

AND WE STILL ARE SEEING THAT, PLANNED DECREASE.

OF COURSE, WE'RE STARTING WITH THE LOWER FUND BALANCE.

SO THAT IS WHY, ENDING FUND BALANCE WILL ALSO IS EXPECTED TO COME IN LOWER.

BUT I WILL END WITH SOME GOOD NEWS.

SO WE ARE STABILIZING IN ENROLLMENT.

WE HAVE OUR THIRD MONTH THAT, I SHOULD SAY OUR, NO, IT IS OUR THIRD MONTH, SEPTEMBER, ALSO.

OUR ENROLLMENT AT THIS POINT IN TIME IS HIGHER THAN IT WAS A YEAR AGO.

SO, AGAIN, IT'S, WE ARE HOPEFUL THAT ENROLLMENT IS STARTING TO STABILIZE AND BE MORE PREDICTABLE GOING FORWARD.

AND THAT IS PRETTY MUCH IT FOR NOVEMBER, UNLESS YOU HAVE SPECIFIC QUESTIONS.

QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS.

AS ONE COMMENT FOR YOU, LYDIA, I WANTED TO SAY BECAUSE WE DID HAVE THIS, I BELIEVE, AT A STUDY SESSION OR SOMETHING VERY SIMILAR.

SO MOST OF OUR QUESTIONS WERE ANSWERED.

BUT FOR YOU SPECIFICALLY, I KNOW WHEN I CAME ON THE BOARD NOW ALMOST TWO YEARS AGO, LIKE THIS WAS ALL A BLUR TO ME.

AND I DON'T KNOW IF I'VE GOTTEN BETTER AT READING IT, OR IF IT'S BEEN THE FACT THAT YOU'VE DONE A REALLY GOOD JOB OF OF HELPING ME UNDERSTAND IT.

SO I WANT TO JUST THANK YOU FOR THE WORK THAT YOU'VE DONE AND MAKING THIS VERY ACCESSIBLE FOR ME.

AND I THINK OUR OTHER BOARD MEMBERS AS WELL.

AND, YOU KNOW, I THINK YOU DO A REALLY GOOD JOB AT WHAT YOU'RE DOING HERE.

AND I WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW THAT.

WELL, THANK YOU. APPRECIATE IT.

DEFINITELY AGREE WITH THAT.

I THINK I MADE A VERY SIMILAR COMMENT AFTER MY FIRST YEAR ON THE BOARD, WHEN I SPENT A LOT OF YOUR TIME ASKING QUESTIONS.

I HAVE A FEELING DIRECTOR KRAMER MIGHT NOT HAVE THE SAME NEEDS.

HAVING BEEN A PRINCIPAL HERE AND SEEN OUR BUDGET FOR MANY YEARS, I WAS JUST GOING TO SAY I APOLOGIZE IN ADVANCE FOR THE MANY QUESTIONS THAT I WILL ASK IN ANTICIPATION.

ANY OTHER COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS? THANK YOU SO MUCH.

WE HAVE ONE ITEM OF UNFINISHED BUSINESS THIS EVENING.

[13. UNFINISHED BUSINESS- 8:20 pm]

I'D WELCOME FORWARD ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT DOCTOR GREG SCHWAB TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS YOU HAVE AS WE ADDRESS 13.1 A SECOND READING TO A BOARD APPROVED REVISED BOARD POLICY.

2320 FIELD TRIPS.

IT'S A JOINT EFFORT.

THEY DON'T HAVE A PRESENTATION AS THIS IS A SECOND READING.

SORRY, THIS IS A SECOND READING, BUT I DID HEAR THAT THERE MAY BE SOME QUESTIONS, SO THIS IS A SECOND ME UP TO MY NO PROBLEM.

THIS IS A SECOND READING OF THIS POLICY WITH A RECOMMENDATION FOR PASSAGE THIS EVENING BY STAFF.

IT'S BEEN A LONG WEEK AND IT'S ONLY TUESDAY.

OKAY, SO THIS IS THE SECOND READING FOR US TO APPROVE THE REVISED BOARD POLICY 2320 ON FIELD TRIPS.

DO I HEAR A MOTION AND A SECOND TO APPROVE? I MOVE TO APPROVE, REVISED BOARD POLICY 2320.

SECOND. IS THERE A DISCUSSION? WELL, IN LIGHT OF THE COMMENTS EARLIER, I WANTED TO ASK ABOUT THE PROTOCOLS.

I HEARD THERE WAS A COMMENT ABOUT IF THERE ARE CERTAIN PROTOCOLS THAT WERE FOLLOWED, WOULD, PRIVATE DRIVING STILL BE ALLOWED AND WHAT THOSE PROTOCOLS ARE, THINGS LIKE THAT,

[01:10:04]

SINCE THAT WAS BROUGHT UP.

SO TRANSPORTATION BY PRIVATE VEHICLE WOULD REQUIRE SUPERINTENDENT OR DESIGNEE APPROVAL.

SO IT'S JUST A HIGHER LEVEL OF APPROVAL THAN PREVIOUSLY.

SO THE DESIGNEE WOULD BE ONE OF THE ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENTS.

THANK YOU. I HAVE TO SAY, I ASKED DOCTOR MINER SEVERAL QUESTIONS BASED ON THIS, AND UNDERSTAND BETTER THAT THIS IS REALLY A MATTER OF OUR RISK POOL.

BEING CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF OUR STUDENTS AND MAKING SURE THAT WE ARE DOING WHAT IS THE MOST SAFE APPROACH, IN TERMS OF THIS AND THAT, TYPICALLY THERE HAS WE HAVEN'T HAD ANY SCHOOL, I BELIEVE, OTHER THAN MAPLEWOOD, THAT HAS DONE PRIVATE TRANSPORTATION.

DO I UNDERSTAND THAT CORRECTLY, AT LEAST IN RECENT TIMES, I BELIEVE THAT TO BE THE CASE.

AND WE, YOU KNOW, WE WANT TO EXHAUST ALL OPTIONS.

I WHAT I APPRECIATE ABOUT THIS POLICY IS THAT IT DOES TAKE THE PRESSURE AWAY FROM THE PRINCIPAL.

WE WANT TO EXHAUST ALL OPTIONS AND TRY TO PURSUE ANY TYPE OF TRANSPORTATION WE CAN PRIOR TO ALLOWING A PRIVATE VEHICLE SITUATION DOES NOT TAKE AWAY THE RIGHT, AS ONE OF YOU ASKED, OR THE OPPORTUNITY FOR A PARENT TO DRIVE THEIR OWN CHILD TO A FIELD TRIP.

IT'S THE TRANSPORTING OTHER CHILDREN.

THERE'S ALSO A WORKLOAD ISSUE ASSOCIATED WITH THAT.

AS DIRECTOR CHASE AND I CAN ATTEST, WHEN WE DID TRANSPORT STUDENTS TO OLYMPIA LAST YEAR, I MEAN, IT'S QUITE A BIT FOR TRANSPORTATION TO TAKE A LOOK AT YOUR INSURANCE, TAKE A LOOK AT YOUR DRIVER'S ABSTRACT, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR STATE CARD, ETC..

AND SO IT DOES, THE EXTENT TO WHICH WE CAN DIMINISH THE ISSUES, I BELIEVE DOES HELP US WITH RISK POOL ALIGN WITH THEIR HOPES FOR US AS WELL AS DECREASE WORKLOAD.

THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT CLARIFICATION.

OTHER QUESTIONS.

I WAS JUST GOING TO MAKE A COMMENT FOR, ANY PARENTS THAT MIGHT BE LISTENING WHO HAVE CONCERNS ABOUT THIS.

JUST BY WAY OF ANALOGY, I WORK HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS BASKETBALL, AND I HAD A GAME ON MONDAY AND A GIRL WAS WEARING A NECKLACE, AND I WAS LIKE, YOU HAVE TO TAKE THAT OFF BEFORE THE GAME. AND THAT KIND OF STARTED THIS CONVERSATION, NOT REALLY AN ARGUMENT WHERE SHE WAS LIKE, WELL, I'VE BEEN DOING IT ALL SEASON.

IT'S NOT A BIG DEAL. I'LL HIDE IT THIS AND THAT.

AND REALLY WHAT IT CAME DOWN TO AT THE END OF THE DAY WAS I FELT BAD.

I WANTED TO LET HER WEAR IT.

IT WAS CLEARLY IMPORTANT TO HER AND THAT'S GREAT, UNTIL THERE'S A REBOUND DOWN LOW, SOMEONE GETS A HOLD OF THAT NECKLACE.

SHE SMACKS HER HEAD INTO THE GROUND, AND NOW I'M IN COURT TELLING THEM WHY I LET THAT NECKLACE HAPPEN.

I COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND WHERE PARENTS ARE COMING FROM.

WE'VE DONE IT THIS WAY.

WE THIS, WE LIKE THIS AND ALL OF THAT.

AND I AM SYMPATHETIC 100% TO THAT.

AND THAT IS ALL FINE AND GOOD UNTIL THE DAY SOMETHING HAPPENS THAT NONE OF US WANT TO THINK ABOUT, AND THEN WE HAVE TO ANSWER THE QUESTIONS FOR WHY DID WE EVEN LET IT HAPPEN IN THE FIRST PLACE? I SUPPORT THIS AT LEAST THAT IT SHOULD COME FROM SOMEONE VERY HIGH UP IN THE DISTRICT BEFORE WE ALLOW OURSELVES TO TAKE ON THAT RISK.

SO THAT IS JUST BY WAY OF ANALOGY.

I'M HOPING THAT THAT MAKES SENSE TO SOME OF THE PEOPLE WHO MIGHT BE LISTENING, WHO HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT THAT.

ANY OTHER COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS OR INPUT.

JUST THAT, I REALIZE THIS IS A THIS IS A BIG CULTURE SHIFT TO FOR SOME OF THE SCHOOLS AND THE PROGRAMS, AND I'M ASSUMING THAT WE'RE GOING TO WORK WITH ANY ISSUES MOVING FORWARD WITH THE DIFFERENT KIND OF TRANSPORTATION POLICY.

THAT IS WE KNOW IT'S IMPACTING MAPLEWOOD.

WE JUST HAVEN'T HEARD IF ANY OTHER IMPACTS.

SO THAT WILL HELP WITH THAT TRANSITION IF NEED BE.

THANK YOU FOR THAT.

AND THANK YOU FOR THE EMAILS AND THE EXCHANGES WE HAD TALKING ABOUT THIS TOO.

ANYTHING ELSE.

OKAY, I'LL CALL FOR A ROLL CALL VOTE.

AND REVISED BOARD POLICY 2320 ON FIELD TRIPS IS APPROVED.

WE HAVE FOUR ITEMS OF NEW BUSINESS THIS EVENING.

[14. NEW BUSINESS- 8:30 pm]

THE FIRST IS 14.1, A SINGLE READING TO APPROVE RESOLUTION 24-02, ACCEPTANCE OF PUBLIC WORKS CONTRACT FOR THE 2021-2022 SECURITY UPGRADES PROJECT PHASE ONE.

THAT'S A LONG ONE.

SO DO I HEAR A MOTION TO APPROVE? AND A SECOND FOR RESOLUTION 24-02, ACCEPTANCE OF PUBLIC WORKS CONTRACT FOR THE 2021- 2022 SECURITY UPGRADES

[01:15:07]

PROJECT PHASE ONE.

MAKE A MOTION TO APPROVE THAT.

SECOND. I'VE HEARD A MOTION TO APPROVE.

AND A SECOND. IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION? OKAY. HEARING NONE, I'LL CALL FOR A ROLL CALL VOTE.

2402 ACCEPTANCE OF THE PUBLIC WORKS CONTRACT FOR THE 2021- 2022 SECURITY UPGRADES PROJECT PHASE ONE IS APPROVED.

THE SECOND ITEM THIS EVENING IS 14.2, A SINGLE READING TO APPROVE SCHOOL BOARD LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES FOR 2024.

THESE ARE THE SAME PRIORITIES THAT WE PROPOSED LAST YEAR.

THEY DIDN'T MEET THESE PRIORITIES, ALTHOUGH SOME PROGRESS WAS MADE, PARTICULARLY IN THE REALM OF FEEDING STUDENTS.

AND SO WHAT WE DID WITH THESE PRIORITIES THIS YEAR, THANKS TO..

I'M SORRY, DID YOU SKIP? DID I SKIP? 14.2? NO, THAT'S WHAT I'M WORKING ON.

I'M SORRY. NEVER MIND.

THAT'S OKAY. SO IF WE COULD GO AHEAD AND OPEN THIS ONE UP, YOU CAN SEE WE HAVE ADJUSTED A LITTLE BIT.

ORIGINALLY OUR ORDER WAS DIFFERENT ON THESE.

THEY'RE SAME SUBSTANTIVELY, BUT WE MOVED PROVIDES RESOURCES FOR AMPLE, EQUITABLE AND STABLE EDUCATION TO THE FIRST ITEM HERE ON DIRECTOR SELLIE, WHO WE HEARD FROM EARLIER, PROVIDED US WITH NEW FIGURES AND NEW DOLLAR AMOUNTS, ETC.

UPDATED THAT FOR US AND OUR COMMUNICATIONS TEAM, REDESIGNED THIS AND MOVE THEM AROUND FOR US.

SO, THE SAME THREE PROVIDE RESOURCES FOR AMPLE, EQUITABLE AND STABLE EDUCATION.

MEET REQUIREMENTS FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION AND FEEDING STUDENTS.

THANK YOU FOR LAYING THESE OUT.

ANY COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS OR INPUT? I JUST WANTED TO ADD A POINT OF ORDER.

I DON'T EVEN KNOW. AARON, WHEN WE DO THE NOTES ON THIS, THOUGH, BECAUSE WE HAD AN EXTENDED CONVERSATION ABOUT THIS, ON A PREVIOUS MEETING, WOULD IT BE POSSIBLE TO JUST MAKE SURE THAT THAT'S NOTED? SO IF ANYONE GOES BACK AND LOOKS AT THE NOTES IS LIKE, YES, THIS WAS DISCUSSED, WE DIDN'T JUST LOOK AT THIS AND SAY, YES, WE ACCEPTED IT.

WE DISCUSSED AT LENGTH A MONTH AGO OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT.

YEAH, WE SPENT A LOT OF TIME TALKING ABOUT THESE, AND, PUTTING THEM IN ORDER AND VOTING THEM ON THEM AND, RANKING THEM AND DISCUSSING EACH ONE.

YES. THIS IS NOT HAS NOT BEEN DONE LIGHTLY, BUT I THINK IT'S DONE VERY WELL.

YOU KNOW, MY PARTICULAR FEELING ABOUT THE NUMBER ONE, WHICH WE ABSOLUTELY HAVE BEEN DOING EVERYTHING WE CAN TO ADVOCATE FOR, WHICH IS FOR THE STATE TO PROVIDE RESOURCES TO AMPLY, EQUITABLY AND AND WITH A STABLE, PROVIDE A STABLE EDUCATION.

AND SO THAT COVERS A LOT OF PIECES AND PARTS.

AND WE HAVE TO KEEP WORKING ON THAT BECAUSE THEY'RE SIMPLY NOT DOING THAT.

SO I REALLY APPRECIATE THAT WE'VE PUT THAT AS NUMBER ONE.

AND THE OTHER TWO ARE OBVIOUSLY EXTREMELY IMPORTANT AS WELL.

SO I LIKE THE FACT THAT WE'VE KEPT IT SHORT, MADE IT TOP THREE, FOCUSED EXACTLY WHERE IT MATTERS MOST, WHERE WE CAN REALLY PUT OUR ADVOCACY THERE. SO, DIRECTOR CHASE IN PARTICULAR, I REALLY APPRECIATE ALL THE WORK THAT YOU HAVE DONE IN THIS AREA, I THINK, AND THIS IS PARTICULARLY TIMELY.

THERE'S ABOUT SIX BILLS THAT ARE CURRENT IN PLAY THIS WEEK THAT RELATE TO OUR PRIORITIES.

SO YEAH, SO I THINK THIS IS A TIMELY DOCUMENT AND VERY RELEVANT.

AND I THINK IT'S I WOULD RECOMMEND THAT WE PASS IT.

OKAY. ANY OTHER INPUT, QUESTIONS, COMMENTS? OKAY. HEARING NONE, I'LL CALL FOR A ROLL CALL VOTE.

BOARD LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES FOR 2024 ARE APPROVED.

ITEM 14.3 IS A SINGLE READING TO APPROVE AN EMERGENCY WAIVER REQUEST FOR SCHOOL CLOSURE.

THIS ONE IS FOR SHERWOOD ELEMENTARY CLOSURE ON JANUARY 2ND, 2024.

THERE WAS A BOILER FAILURE AT SHERWOOD ELEMENTARY THAT DAY, AND WE COULD NOT MAINTAIN THE MINIMUM HEAT REQUIREMENTS AS DESIGNATED BY WAC 246 366 090, AND THEREFORE THE SCHOOL WAS CLOSED ON THAT DAY.

THANK YOU. DO I HEAR A MOTION TO APPROVE? AND A SECOND FOR THE EMERGENCY WAIVER REQUEST FOR THE SCHOOL CLOSURE THAT WE HAD TO DO.

MOVE TO APPROVE. I'LL SECOND.

I'VE HEARD A MOTION TO APPROVE.

AND A SECOND. IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION?

[01:20:06]

HEARING NONE, I'LL CALL FOR A ROLL CALL VOTE.

SCHOOL CLOSURE IS APPROVED.

OUR LAST ITEM THIS EVENING UNDER NEW BUSINESS.

NO ACTION REQUESTED AT THIS TIME IS A FIRST READING OF REVISED BOARD POLICY 3110 QUALIFICATION OF ATTENDANCE AND PLACEMENT. THIS IS AN AMENDMENT TO OUR CURRENT EARLY ENTRANCE POLICY 3110, WHICH STATES THAT AN EARLY ENTRANCE CANDIDATE FOR KINDERGARTEN OR FIRST GRADE IS DEFINED BY A CHILD WHOSE FIFTH BIRTHDAY, KINDER OR SIXTH BIRTHDAY FIRST FALLS BETWEEN AND INCLUDES SEPTEMBER 1ST AND DECEMBER 31ST. WE'RE RECOMMENDING A CHANGE TO THIS POLICY TO MOVE THAT DATE TO OCTOBER 31ST.

THIS IS IN LINE WITH NEIGHBORING DISTRICTS.

THIS DOES REDUCE ADMINISTRATIVE COSTS.

WE TEST QUITE A FEW STUDENTS WHOSE BIRTHDAYS FALL BETWEEN THAT OCTOBER 31ST AND DECEMBER 31ST DATE, AND IN FIVE YEARS OF DATA, ONLY ONE STUDENT WHOSE BIRTHDAY FALLS WITHIN THAT CATEGORY HAS QUALIFIED.

OKAY. DO I HEAR A MOTION TO APPROVE AND A SECOND MOVE.

OH, NO. WAIT. NO NO NO NO, THIS IS THIS IS A FIRST READING.

WE'LL TAKE ANY FEEDBACK YOU HAVE ON THIS BEFORE WE BRING IT.

POTENTIALLY BRING IT BACK FOR A SECOND READING.

I WOULD. JUST AS A FORMER PRINCIPAL WHO'S WORKED WITH MANY, MANY PARENTS AND LOTS OF KIDS WHO THE PARENTS WANTED THEM TO GET IN EARLY, I FULLY APPRECIATE THIS BECAUSE OFTENTIMES.

WHAT I'VE SEEN IS PARENTS WANTING TO PLACE THEIR KIDS IN WHEN THEY'RE DEVELOPMENTALLY NOT READY, AND IT CREATES A WREAKS HAVOC ON THE CHILD. IT WREAKS HAVOC ON THE CLASSROOM.

IT WREAKS HAVOC. IT HAVOC.

LATER ON DOWN THE LINE.

AND SO I ABSOLUTELY, 100% AGREE WITH THIS AS A TEACHER AND A FORMER PRINCIPAL.

DOCTOR MINER, WE HAVE OUR ONE ON ONE AND THURSDAY.

WOULD YOU MIND PULLING A LITTLE BIT OF DATA ON THIS FOR ME? JUST THE COSTS, THE NUMBER OF KIDS WHO TEST, WHO DON'T TEST, AND THINGS LIKE THAT.

I TRUST DIRECTOR CRAMER'S POSITION ON THIS, BUT I WOULD I WOULD LIKE TO SEE IT MYSELF, AS I THINK WE ALREADY SAW, I THINK WE I CAN CERTAINLY HIGHLIGHT THAT FOR YOU FROM OUR FRIDAY MEMO. THAT WAS IN A WE DID PROVIDE SOME INFORMATION IN THE FRIDAY MEMO, BUT I'LL BE HAPPY TO, MAKE SURE WE JUST FOCUS ON THAT A LITTLE BIT.

ABSOLUTELY, I MISSED IT.

SORRY ABOUT THAT. BUT MY COMMENT THAT IS I FOUND THE DATA VERY COMPELLING.

OKAY. IT WAS SURPRISING TO ME HOW FEW STUDENTS WERE BEING IDENTIFIED, AND PARTICULARLY IN THE LATTER PART OF THE CALENDAR MONTH BIRTHDAY CALENDAR.

AND I PAID A LOT OF ATTENTION TO IT BECAUSE MY GRANDSON, HIS BIRTHDAY IS SEPTEMBER 5TH, SO.

AND HE'S NOT HE'S NOT IN THIS DISTRICT, BUT HE'S IN A NEIGHBORING DISTRICT.

AND SO I WAS CURIOUS.

IT'S LIKE, WHAT DOES THAT LOOK LIKE? AND, YOU KNOW, I MEAN, HE'S FOUR DAYS OFF OF THAT.

AND. YOU KNOW, THE PARENTS DON'T EVEN KNOW YET WHETHER OR NOT THEY WANT TO HAVE HIM.

BUT I SO I WAS REALLY PAYING ATTENTION TO IT.

AND I FOUND THE DATA VERY COMPELLING.

YEAH. OTHER OTHER COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS? OKAY, WELL, THIS WILL BE COMING UP FOR A SECOND READ.

BUT THAT'S VERY HELPFUL.

AND WE APPRECIATE THE BACKGROUND INFORMATION THAT YOU GAVE US ON THAT.

AND ALSO LOOKING AT THINGS LIKE THAT THAT ARE COSTLY AND NOT EFFECTIVE, PARTICULARLY, AARON,

[15. PUBLIC COMMENTS 8:40 pm]

DO WE HAVE ANY ADDITIONAL PUBLIC COMMENTS? I BELIEVE WE MAY HAVE SOMEONE SIGNING IN NOW.

CAN I JUST COME UP? OH, BUT I NEED YOU TO SIGN IN.

WE NEED A DOCUMENTATION.

I'M TRYING TO FIND THIS.

THAT ADDRESSES THIS. OKAY.

I APPRECIATE, FIRST OF ALL, IF YOU COULD JUST WAIT TILL YOU GET TO THE MIC SO PEOPLE AT HOME CAN HEAR YOU.

MY NAME IS STEVE MOSSMAN, LIVE IN MOUNTLAKE TERRACE.

DIRECTOR KRAMER, I APPRECIATE YOUR SENTIMENTS ON THE EARLY ENROLLMENT.

I JUST WANT TO EXPRESS MY POSITION AS SOMEONE WHO WAS BORN IN DECEMBER.

DECEMBER 10TH. AND I WAS HELD OUT A YEAR AFTER MY OTHER SIBLINGS.

THAT AFFECTED MY SCHOOLING FROM THEN UNTIL I GRADUATED IN THAT I SPENT A WHOLE YEAR AT HOME.

I WAS THE YOUNGEST BY MYSELF WITH MY MOTHER.

I WAS SO FAR AHEAD OF THE REST OF THE CHILDREN WHEN I ENTERED KINDERGARTEN THAT I BECAME BORED.

I WAS BORED STIFF THROUGH KINDERGARTEN, FIRST GRADE AND SECOND GRADE.

I DIDN'T CARE AFTER THAT.

I WOULD REALLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU CONSIDER WHEN A PARENT COMES TO YOU AND SAYS, I HAVE A CHILD WHO WE KNOW READS.

[01:25:09]

HE CAN KNOW ALL OF HIS NUMBERS, KNOW EVERYTHING ELSE, AND YOU HOLD HIM BACK JUST BECAUSE HIS BIRTHDAY'S IN DECEMBER, OR, GOD FORBID, NOVEMBER 1ST AND NOVEMBER 2ND. YOU COULD BE SETTING THAT CHILD UP FOR AN IMMENSE AMOUNT OF FAILURE.

IT ALMOST AFFECTED ME THAT WAY.

IT TOOK ME A LOT OF EFFORT TO GET PAST THAT PLACE WHERE I WAS LITERALLY BORED WITH BEING IN SCHOOL BECAUSE AS OTHER KIDS WERE READING SEE JANE RUN, I WAS WANTING TO READ. YOU KNOW, A BOOK OUT OF THIRD GRADE.

SO PLEASE DON'T JUST DISMISS THIS ISSUE AS, OH, THEY'RE NOT OLD ENOUGH.

THEY MIGHT BE IMPACTED DETRIMENTALLY.

IT COULD WORK BOTH WAYS TOO.

OKAY. THANK YOU. NEXT ON THE AGENDA IS OUR LEGISLATIVE UPDATE.

OKAY. THANK YOU.

WELL, I'M REALLY I THINK WE HAVE A PUBLIC COMMENT.

I THINK IT'S ANOTHER PUBLIC COMMENT.

JUST SIGNED UP, BUT WE USUALLY ONLY ALLOW ONE THREE MINUTE COMMENT PER SPEAKER.

WELL, I WANTED TO CLARIFY A LOT OF WHAT WAS.

WHAT I'M GOING TO SUGGEST IS IF YOU COULD PLEASE SEND US AN EMAIL AND WE WILL GET BACK TO YOU ON THAT.

THAT WOULD BE VERY HELPFUL.

THANK YOU.

NEXT IS THE LEGISLATIVE UPDATE.

[16. LEGISLATIVE UPDATES]

YEP. THANK YOU. I'M REALLY GLAD THAT WE PASSED OUR LEGISLATIVE AGENDA BECAUSE IT REALLY DOES ALIGN WITH WHAT'S GOING ON THIS WEEK.

SO JUST TO REMIND FOLKS, THIS IS A SHORT SESSION.

IT STARTED JANUARY 8TH.

IT ENDS MARCH 7TH.

AND ALL THE BILLS THAT WERE ALIVE LAST YEAR WERE RETAINED IN THEIR CURRENT STATUS.

AND THE FIRST CUT OFF IS JANUARY 31ST.

SO IT'S COMING UP NEXT WEEK.

AND SO THERE'S A BIG RUSH RIGHT NOW TO GET BILLS THROUGH HEARING RIGHT NOW BILLS THROUGH THEIR HOUSE THAT THEY WERE RETAINED IN OR THAT THEY WERE HOUSE OF ORIGIN.

AND I ACTUALLY WITH THE LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE WE HAVE WORKING ON GETTING REPORT FORMATS OUT TO EVERY SCHOOL DISTRICT SO THAT THAT EACH SCHOOL DISTRICT CAN GET A MORE FORMAL REPORT FROM THEIR LEDGE REPS.

AND WE'RE GOING TO HAVE THAT IN PLACE FOR US COMING AT OUR NEXT MEETING.

I CAN SHARE. AND SO, SO LOOKING FORWARD TO SOME REPORTS THAT IT'LL BE EASIER FOR THE PUBLIC TO ALSO FOLLOW.

INSTEAD OF ME JUST TELLING YOU WHICH WHICH BILLS ARE LIVE AND ACTIVE AND THAT KIND OF THING.

SO THERE ARE RIGHT NOW, THE PROTOTYPICAL SCHOOL FUNDING MODEL, IT IS THE HOUSE.

THERE'S A BILL THAT WOULD INCREASE PROTOTYPICAL SCHOOL STAFFING TO BETTER MEET STUDENT NEEDS.

IT WOULD INCREASE THE MINIMUM ALLOCATION FOR PARAEDUCATORS AND NON-INSTRUCTIONAL AIDES.

AND IT PASSED THE SENATE EARLY LEARNING ON K-12 EDUCATION AND HAS BEEN REFERRED TO WAYS AND MEANS.

SO THAT'S STILL GOT LEGS.

WE'VE GOT FIVE BILLS THAT HAVE A FOCUS ON SPECIAL ED.

I HAVE ALL THE DETAILS.

I'M NOT GOING TO READ IT OUT NOW, BUT I CAN SHARE IT.

THE THERE'S ONE, TWO, THREE, FIVE BILLS WITH THEIR TOPICS ON SPECIAL ED RELATED TO 15% CAP SAFETY, NET CHANGES AND REPORTING ON OVERIDENTIFICATION. SO I BELIEVE IT LOOKS LIKE.

PASSING COMMITTEE AND IN RULES WAITING FOR A FLOOR VOTE, IS REQUESTING CONGRESS TO FUND 40% OF COSTS OF INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES EDUCATION.

SO THAT IS AWAITING A FLOOR VOTE RIGHT NOW.

AND THEN WE HAVE TRANSPORTATION THAT PAST THE K-12 EDUCATION COMMITTEE IS HEADING TO WAYS AND MEANS.

SO THAT'S GOOD. AND FOCUSING ON SCHOOL MEALS, INCREASING STUDENT ACCESS TO FREE MEALS SERVED AT PUBLIC SCHOOL.

THIS PAST HOUSE EDUCATION COMMITTEE AND REFERRED TO HOUSE APPROPRIATIONS.

AND IT IS NOW AWAITING A HEARING.

SO THOSE ARE KIND OF LIKE WHAT'S ACTIVE AND REALLY, STILL HAS SOME LEGS.

THIS WEEK, THERE WAS ALSO BILLS TO FOCUS ON LEVEES AND BONDS.

AND IN PARTICULAR THERE IS LET'S SEE, I'VE GOT THE ONE FOR AMENDING THE CONSTITUTION.

AND I DON'T HAVE NOTES ON WHAT IF THAT ACTUALLY PASSED, THROUGH THEIR COMMITTEE.

BUT I CAN CHECK. BUT THERE'S ONE ON ENRICHMENT LEVIES THAT DID.

IT'S IN THE EDUCATION COMMITTEE FIRST HEARING THIS WAS ON 115.

AND THE CONCERNING SCHOOL DISTRICT ELECTIONS, WHICH WOULD CREATE SIMPLE MAJORITY FOR SCHOOL BONDS THAT PASSED EARLY LEARNING AND K-12 AND IS AWAITING A HEARING AT WAYS AND MEANS. SO THAT'S RELEVANT TO, YOU KNOW, THE THINGS THAT WE'VE GOT GOING ON RIGHT NOW.

AND AM I CORRECT ON THAT ONE? IF IT IF IT MAKES IT THROUGH THE LEGISLATURE, IT THEN GOES TO A VOTE, A STATEWIDE VOTE.

THAT'S MY UNDERSTANDING.

YES. BECAUSE IT'S A CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT.

YES. SO SO WE'LL SEE, YOU KNOW, PAY CLOSE ATTENTION I THINK.

AND SO PARTICIPATED IN THE PROCESS.

I WOULD SAY, THANK YOU FOR SIGNING ON SOME OF THESE BILLS.

[01:30:01]

I DO KNOW THAT, EDMONDS IS DEFINITELY MAKING ITS POSITION ON THESE BILLS COMING UP WELL KNOWN.

AND FOR PARTICIPATING IN THE PROCESS FOR EVERYONE IS ANYONE CAN SIGN IN TO POSITIONS ON BILLS.

WE YOU NOW KNOW WHAT THE PRIORITIES OFFICIALLY ADOPTED BY THE SCHOOL BOARD ARE.

AND I'M ASSUMING THAT WILL BE ON OUR WEBSITE HERE SHORTLY.

TESTIFYING IN PERSON OR REMOTELY.

IT'S VERY EASY TO HAVE YOUR POSITION.

RECORDED FOR THE RECORD, EITHER PRO OR CON ON A BILL.

IT'S PRETTY SELF-EXPLANATORY ON THE WEBSITE, AND THERE'S WRITTEN TESTIMONY CONTACTING YOUR COMMITTEE MEMBERS AND LEGISLATORS.

EVERYONE IS EMPOWERED TO DO THAT.

AND PARTICULARLY HELPFUL IF YOU COULD SUPPORT ANYTHING THAT YOU'RE NOTICING THAT WOULD SUPPORT THE AGENDA, THE LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES THAT WE HAVE FOR 2024.

AND LET'S SEE, I THINK THAT IS ALL I HAVE RIGHT NOW.

WE'RE JUST KEEPING KEEPING UP WITH, YOU KNOW, IT'S TIMELY.

THERE'S A BIG RACE TO JANUARY 31ST.

SO SO I HAD ALERTED YOU, BUT I DON'T I DIDN'T INCLUDE THE REST OF THE BOARD MEMBERS, BUT I WANTED TO ABOUT THE EXPERIENCE FACTOR.

OKAY, SO THERE'S A BILL IN EDMONDS AND CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG, ARE OUR TEACHING STAFF IS PARTICULARLY EXPERIENCED, WE ATTRACT AND RETAIN STRONG, EXPERIENCED TEACHERS, AND WE'VE BEEN FINANCIALLY HURT BY THE WAY, THAT WE RECEIVE APPROPRIATIONS BASED ON WHAT'S CALLED THE EXPERIENCE FACTOR.

THE BILL THAT IS AND PART OF IT IS THAT THEY BASE IT ON LIKE FOUR YEAR OLD DATA, AND THE BILL WOULD ASK FOR IT TO BE BASED ON ANNUAL DATA.

SO IT WOULD BE ACTUALLY ACCURATE ON OUR THE EXPERIENCE LEVEL OF OUR CURRENT STAFF.

I THANKFULLY FOUND OUT ABOUT IT FROM ANOTHER SCHOOL BOARD PRESIDENT, WHICH IS GREAT.

YOU KNOW, IT'S LIKE THERE'S THIS NETWORK GOING NOW, WALLA WALLA, I THANK YOU, THANK YOU.

AND SO, YOU KNOW, I ADVOCATED WITH OUR LEGISLATORS, AND I KNOW AT LEAST TWO OF THEM DID SIGN ON TO CO-SPONSOR IT. IT WOULD BENEFIT THE EDMONDS SCHOOL DISTRICT BY ABOUT $3 MILLION.

THERE ARE ABOUT 26 DISTRICTS THAT WOULD BENEFIT STRONGLY FROM IT.

BUT THERE ARE OTHER DISTRICTS THAT BECAUSE THEIR EXPERIENCE LEVEL HAS CHANGED IN THE OTHER DIRECTION, THEY DON'T, WOULDN'T WANT IT TO CHANGE.

SO I DON'T KNOW TO WHAT EXTENT THERE WOULD BE OPPOSITION, EVEN THOUGH HAVING IT ACCURATE AND CURRENT SEEMS TO BE THE FAIR THING TO DO.

SO WE NEED TO KEEP OUR EYE, I THINK, ON THAT BILL AS WELL TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS.

THAT'S HOUSE BILL 2458 FOR ANYONE FOLLOWING THIS.

THAT'S RIGHT. SO AND RIGHT NOW THERE'S JUST A HOUSE BILL.

THERE'S NOT A COMPANION SENATE BILL.

CORRECT. AND IT'S IN HOUSE APPROPRIATIONS RIGHT NOW.

YEAH. SO THAT'S THAT'S GOOD.

WE'LL SEE WHAT HAPPENS.

THANK YOU FOR THAT UPDATE I'D FORGOTTEN.

YEAH. YEAH. NO, I THINK IT'S IMPORTANT FOR ALL OF US TO BE AWARE OF THE THINGS THAT AFFECT US IN PARTICULAR.

I MEAN, THAT WOULD BE A SIGNIFICANT HELP TO US, OBVIOUSLY.

SO, ANY OTHER COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS ABOUT THE LEGISLATIVE ACTIONS GOING ON? OKAY, OKAY. BUT WE ALL I MEAN, PART OF IT IS HAVING TO JUMP ON IT QUICKLY.

BECAUSE THEY ARE MOVING QUICKLY.

I MEAN, LIKE THEY HAD TO I FOUND OUT ABOUT THIS TWO DAYS AGO, AND I HAD TO SAY, PLEASE DO IT BY 2 P.M.

ON TUESDAY, WHICH IS.

AND THE FACT THAT TWO OF THEM DID WAS LIKE SUPER DUPER.

THE THE NETWORKING AND THE COORDINATION AMONGST THE DISTRICT IS GETTING STRONGER.

YES, YES I AGREE.

OKAY. THANK YOU SO MUCH, DIRECTOR CHASE REALLY APPRECIATE THAT.

TIME FOR, BOARD COMMENTS.

[17. BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS]

VIVIAN, YOU WANT TO START? YEAH. SO WE DIDN'T HAVE A PRESENTATION TODAY ABOUT THE SUPERINTENDENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE, BUT I JUST WANTED TO GIVE AN UPDATE ON IT SINCE IT WAS A WHILE SINCE WE TALKED ABOUT THAT.

SO THE LAST TIME I WAS HERE TALKING ABOUT IT, WE WERE DECIDING WHAT PROJECT OR PROJECTS WE WERE GOING TO WORK ON.

AND SO WE'VE NOW DECIDED WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TWO SEPARATE GROUPS.

ONE OF THEM IS FOCUSING ON CAREER TECHNICAL EDUCATION, CAREER READINESS, AND OUR SECOND GROUP IS FOCUSING ON STUDENT MENTAL HEALTH, WHICH THE MAIN TIE IN TO THAT IS GOING TO BE STUDENT TEACHER CONNECTIONS, AND HOW CREATING THAT SAFE ENVIRONMENT IS GOING TO HAVE A POSITIVE IMPACT ON STUDENT LEARNING. SO I JUST WANTED TO GIVE THAT UPDATE.

THANK YOU.

THAT'S GREAT. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THAT.

VERY HELPFUL. AND IT'S REALLY GOOD TO KNOW WHERE WHERE YOUR PRIORITIES ARE AS A GROUP BECAUSE YOU'RE A GREAT REPRESENTATIVE GROUP.

THANK YOU. KEVIN.

THANK YOU, DOCTOR KATIMS. SO I'LL SO I KNOW THERE WAS CONFUSION ABOUT THE WRITTEN COMMENT EARLIER ABOUT A GARY RETIREMENT, AND I'LL GIVE MORE BACKGROUND ON THAT.

SO ONGOING. SO GOING ON AT LINWOOD HIGH SCHOOL, THE STUDENT INTERVENTION COORDINATOR FOR LINWOOD HIGH SCHOOL IS RETIRING AND AND ABOUT GARY,

[01:35:02]

HE'S ALWAYS ENSURING EVERY STUDENT IS WELL ENGAGED.

HE WILL HE WILL SAY HELLO AND ASK HOW YOUR DAY IS GOING.

HE'S ALWAYS WANTING STUDENTS TO BE ENGAGED WITH THEIR ACADEMICS AND BE ON THEIR BEST THAT THEY CAN BE, ESPECIALLY EVEN IF THERE ARE INTERPERSONAL TROUBLES, LIKE MAYBE THE SOME SOCIAL MEDIA TROUBLES LAST SCHOOL YEAR, HE HE WILL STEP IN AND INTERVENE AND MAKE SURE ALL STUDENTS INTERPERSONAL ISSUES ARE WELL, THIS, GARY'S RETIREMENT, WILL AND GARY'S RETIREMENT WILL BE FELT AMONG THE STUDENT BODY AND STAFF OF LINWOOD HIGH SCHOOL, AND HE IS ONE TO BE REMEMBERED AND MISSED BY THE LINWOOD HIGH SCHOOL.

THANK YOU FOR THAT INPUT AND FOR CORRECTING.

AND I LOOK BACK AND IT JUST REFERS TO GARY AND GARY'S RETIREMENT.

AND SO IN A SELF-REFERENCE KIND OF WAY I'M THINKING OF OUR BOARD DIRECTOR.

SO THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR CLARIFYING THAT AND FOR GIVING US BACKGROUND.

HE SOUNDS LIKE AN AMAZING PERSON.

DIRECTOR KRAMER.

I WANTED TO ADDRESS KATHY.

ON THE DAY THAT MEADOWDALE WAS FLOODED I HAPPENED TO MEET UP WITH DOCTOR MINER LATER ON THAT DAY, AND SHE WAS TALKING ABOUT HOW SHE GOT A REALLY GOOD CORE WORKOUT THAT DAY.

AND I SAID, WHAT DO YOU MEAN? SHE SAID, WELL, I WAS MOVING A LOT OF BOXES AND THINGS LIKE THAT.

AND SHE EXPLAINED THAT EVERYONE FROM THE CABINET WENT OVER TO MEADOWDALE, AND I CAN ONLY IMAGINE THAT SHE LED THAT, THAT PARADE AND AS YOU SAID, THAT'S EXTRAORDINARY LEADERSHIP.

AND I SO MUCH APPRECIATE THAT YOU CAME TO RECOGNIZE THAT, BECAUSE THAT'S, WHAT A CAPTAIN DOES.

SO THANK YOU.

AND THANK YOU, DOCTOR MINER.

DIRECTOR SMITH.

A COUPLE OF THINGS BEFORE I GO INTO THE COMMENT THAT I WANTED TO MAKE, I DO WANT TO POINT OUT TO ANYONE, IF YOU WANT TO LOOK AT OUR BOARD OF RECOGNITION THERE AND WANT TO LAUGH, I APPEAR TO BE TWICE THE SIZE OF EVERYONE ELSE ON OUR BOARD.

I ASSUME THAT IS BECAUSE OF SOME SORT OF WEIRD ANGLE THAT THE PICTURE WAS TAKEN AT.

BUT AS I SAT HERE, I WAS LIKE, WHY AM I A GIANT? SO GET A LOOK AT THAT.

ANYWAY.

YOU'RE GIANT IN OUR EYES YES.

WELL THANK YOU.

I WENT BACK AND LOOKED TO MR. MOSSMAN'S COMMENT.

I WANTED TO MAKE A QUICK COMMENT ON THAT ABOUT HAVING KINDERGARTNERS COME IN, AND I FIGURED OUT WHY I DIDN'T SEE IT.

I CHANGED MY PASSWORD IN THE DISTRICT LAST WEEK, AND IF YOU'RE NOT ON OUR NETWORK, YOU DON'T REALIZE THIS.

IT SCREWS WITH EVERYTHING.

SO I ACTUALLY DIDN'T HAVE ACCESS TO LAST WEEK'S FRIDAY MEMO, SO I HAVE TO GET THAT WORKED OUT WITH TECH.

BUT ANYWAY, I AM SYMPATHETIC TO WHAT YOU WERE SAYING, MR. MOSSMAN, AND THAT'S WHY I DID WANT SOME EXTRA DATA ON IT.

I WAS, IN THE.

I WAS BORN IN THIS AREA.

I WENT TO THE SEATTLE SCHOOL DISTRICT UP UNTIL ABOUT SIXTH GRADE.

I WAS AN HONORS STUDENT, DID VERY WELL IN MATH, AND THEN WE MOVED MY FAMILY MOVED INTO THE KENT SCHOOL DISTRICT.

AND THERE'S NO AT LEAST AT THE TIME, I DON'T KNOW IF THEY FIXED IT NOW.

THERE'S NO, LIKE, REAL STANDARDIZED MATH PIECE.

SO SEATTLE CALLED WHAT WE LEARNED THERE WAS MATH SIX.

SO YOU WENT TO KENT AND I WAS LIKE, OH, I MUST TAKE MATH SEVEN NOW.

BUT MATH SEVEN WAS ESSENTIALLY WHAT I HAD LEARNED IN MATH SIX IN SEATTLE.

AND SO THEN MY FAMILY MOVED AGAIN AFTER THAT YEAR TO BRIER TERRACE MIDDLE, TOOK MATH EIGHT.

MATH EIGHT WAS BASICALLY MATH SEVEN AND MATH SIX.

SO I TOOK THE SAME MATH THREE YEARS IN A ROW.

AND I WAS BORED, LOST REALLY ALL INTEREST IN THAT.

AND I WAS LUCKY THAT OUR NOW UNION PRESIDENT, ANDI NOFZIGER MEADOWS, WAS MY MATH TEACHER, AND SHE REALLY, LIKE, TOOK TO ME.

SHE WAS REALLY GOOD ABOUT CHALLENGING ME.

AND IT GOT ME TO TO LOVE MATH AGAIN.

BUT TO YOUR POINT, I UNDERSTAND THIS.

I UNDERSTAND HOW STUDENTS CAN GET BORED.

THEY GET LEFT BEHIND.

AND IF THERE'S OTHER PEOPLE OUT THERE WHO HAVE CONCERNS ABOUT THIS IDEA OF US NOT LETTING KIDS IN WHO MIGHT BE READY, I AM DEFINITELY OPENING OPEN TO HEARING WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY BEFORE ANY SORTS OF VOTES ARE TAKEN.

IN TWO WEEKS, I OBVIOUSLY AM GOING TO LOOK AT WHAT OUR DATA IS.

IT'S NOT A FAIT ACCOMPLI THAT THIS THAT, THAT I WOULD SUPPORT IT.

SO PLEASE LET ME KNOW.

I WANT TO LET YOU KNOW THAT I AM LISTENING FOR THAT STUFF.

I, I UNDERSTAND WHERE YOU ARE COMING FROM.

OTHER THAN THAT, AS I MENTIONED EARLIER, I WORK GIRLS BASKETBALL.

I WILL JUST GIVE A QUICK SHOUT OUT TO OUR MEADOWDALE GIRLS WHO LOOK VERY STRONG THIS YEAR.

I HAVE HIGH HOPES FOR THEM.

I'VE ALSO SEEN OUR LYNNWOOD GIRLS WHO ARE DOING VERY WELL.

I HAVEN'T HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO SEE THE TERRACE OR EDMONDS-WOODWAY GIRLS YET, SO I'M NOT SURE WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE, BUT DEFINITELY MOUNTLAKE TERRACE AND MEADOWDALE GIRLS ARE GOING

[01:40:04]

TO ARE HAVING VERY STRONG SEASONS THIS YEAR, SO I LOOK FORWARD TO HEARING HOW THEY DO, AND I'M CERTAIN AT LEAST THE TWO OF THEM WILL MAKE IT TO THE POSTSEASON.

THANKS, DIRECTOR CHASE.

I THINK I'M REALLY GLAD THAT WE DON'T HAVE A COLD SNAP, BUT I WAS A LITTLE SURPRISED FOR SPRING WEATHER JUST NOW.

BUT THERE WE ARE.

AND, BEEN VERY BUSY WITH THE LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE.

HAS BEEN MEETING A LOT, TRYING TO KEEP UP ON BILLS.

AND I'M REALLY THRILLED WHAT IT FEELS THAT THERE'S A LOT OF COLLABORATION AND MORE SOPHISTICATED COMMUNICATIONS GOING ON.

SO I LOOK FORWARD TO SOME GREAT THINGS COMING OUT OF OLYMPIA.

DIRECTOR KILGORE. WELL, I MET WITH THE INNER.

I'M BLANKING.

OUR INTERSCHOLASTIC ACTIVITIES COMMITTEE, WHICH IS THE WSSDA COMMITTEE OF REPRESENTATIVES FROM AROUND THE STATE WHO LIAISON OR SERVE AS LIAISONS BETWEEN SCHOOL DIRECTORS AND WASHINGTON INTERSCHOLASTIC ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION, WIAA AND.

THIS IS THE TIME OF YEAR WHERE THE DIRECTORS WEIGH IN ON AMENDMENTS TO THE WIAA GIANT BOOK OF THINGS.

AND SO IT INCLUDES THIS YEAR WE HAVE A NUMBER OF AMENDMENTS, 24 AMENDMENTS, AND SOME OF THEM ARE BIG AMENDMENTS AND SOME ARE LITTLE. THERE'S A LOT IN THERE.

I'M GOING TO I JUST GOT IT KIND OF HOT OFF THE PRESS, SO I'M GOING TO SEND IT TO YOU.

AND WHAT I'D LIKE YOU TO DO, I ALSO RECEIVED AS PART OF THAT, I RECEIVED, THE VOTES FROM THE SUPERINTENDENTS ADVISORY COMMITTEE.

SO PEOPLE WHO REPRESENT SUPERINTENDENTS AND THEY KIND OF LOOK AT THE, YOU KNOW, AT THE AMENDMENTS AND SAY, YEAH, WE LIKE THIS ONE.

WE DON'T LIKE THAT ONE. AND I'LL SEND YOU THEIR VOTES AS WELL, BECAUSE IT'S VERY INTERESTING.

SOME OF THEM, THEY HAD MIXED FEELINGS ABOUT SOME OF THEM THEY DIDN'T LIKE.

AND WHAT I'D LIKE TO DO, I THINK, IS TO COME BACK IN THE NEXT BOARD MEETING WITH JUST A FEW.

WE CAN'T DO 24 IN A PUBLIC MEETING, BUT ATTACH IT TO THE, TO THE AGENDA, BUT TO DISCUSS WITH YOU, YOU KNOW, A FEW OF THE REALLY HOTTEST ONES, THE ONES THAT MIGHT HAVE HAD A LITTLE MORE MIXED, FEELING ABOUT, YOU KNOW, SOME ARE.

FOR INSTANCE, ONE IS TO, YOU KNOW, IF YOU'RE FAMILIAR WITH ATHLETICS, THE KIDS HAVE TO BE IN PRACTICE FOR TEN DAYS BEFORE THEY CAN PARTICIPATE IN A GAME. AND THERE'S AN AMENDMENT, A PROPOSAL TO REDUCE THAT TO SEVEN.

AND AND SO THERE'S SOME RATIONALE AROUND THAT.

AND AND I THINK THAT WAS ONE THAT THE SUPERINTENDENTS WERE A LITTLE MIXED ABOUT.

SO THINGS LIKE THAT, THERE WAS ALSO, OF COURSE, ONE, THAT IS OF PERSONAL INTEREST TO ME, WHICH IS TO PUT A STAMP ON ESPORTS, AS AN OFFICIAL WIAA ACTIVITY.

MY SON, I WAS JUST SHARING WITH DIRECTOR CHASE BEFORE THE MEETING.

MY SON IS, PARTICIPATES IN ESPORTS AT MOUNTLAKE TERRACE.

AND, SO RIGHT BEFORE I CAME TO THE MEETING, WE WENT TO THE, WE DIDN'T GO ANYWHERE, ACTUALLY, WE WATCHED THE YOUTUBE VIDEO OF THEIR THEIR MATCH AGAINST ANOTHER SCHOOL IN THE STATE.

WHICH, BY THE WAY, THE HAWKS WON.

SO GO HAWKS.

BUT I WAS, IT'S IT'S A REALLY, IT'S A REALLY INTERESTING, EXPERIENCE TO BE SITTING ON THE SOFA WATCHING YOUR KID, COMPETE VERSUS MY OLDER KID WAS ON THE FIELD A LOT, SO I DIDN'T HAVE TO PUT EXTRA LAYERS ON TO DO THAT.

BUT IT'S REALLY QUITE EXCITING.

AND APPARENTLY IT'S BRINGING IN TONS OF KIDS WHO OTHERWISE AREN'T INVOLVED IN ACTIVITIES OR SPORTS.

SO OF COURSE, IT'S GETTING IT'S GENERATING A LOT OF ENTHUSIASM AROUND THE STATE.

ANYWAY, THAT'S ALL I'LL SAY.

THOSE ARE TWO SAMPLES AND I'LL SEND THEM TO YOU.

AND IF YOU INDIVIDUALLY GET BACK TO ME AND SAY, I WANT, I WANT US TO TALK ABOUT THIS ONE.

I'LL PUT IT ON MY LIST, BUT I THINK I'LL PROBABLY ASK US TO TALK ABOUT MAYBE FOR, YOU KNOW, DURING THE MEETING THAT THAT ARE PARTICULARLY INTERESTING.

AND, THAT'S IT FOR ME.

THANK YOU.

MR. MOSSMAN, I WANTED TO ADDRESS WHAT YOU, SHARED WITH US.

AND FIRST OF ALL, I'M REALLY SORRY YOU HAD THAT EXPERIENCE.

IT'S VERY UNFORTUNATE THAT YOUR THAT YOUR SCHOOLING STARTED THAT WAY, BUT SCHOOLING NOW AND TEACHING AND LEARNING IS VERY DIFFERENT THAN

[01:45:06]

WHEN IT WAS PROBABLY WHEN YOU WERE A KINDERGARTNER.

TEACHERS DO DIFFERENTIATION.

I HAD A CHILD WHO, WHEN WE MOVED HERE, WAS WAY MORE ADVANCED IN CERTAIN OF THE AREAS THAN THE, THE REST OF THE, THAT GRADE LEVEL.

AND HE HAD A TEACHER WHO SIMPLY GAVE HIM DIFFERENT WORK, ALLOWED HIM TO READ BOOKS AT THE DIFFERENT LEVELS, AND DID THE KIND OF DIFFERENTIATION THAT IS EXPECTED IN ALL OF OUR CLASSROOMS PROBABLY WASN'T TRUE, CERTAINLY WASN'T TRUE.

WHEN I WENT TO SCHOOL, I WAS BORED A LOT IN SCHOOL, I GET THAT.

SO ONE OF THE THINGS THAT REALLY IS DIFFERENT IS THE AWARENESS THAT THERE'S A GREAT DIFFERENCE AMONG STUDENTS WHEN THEY COME INTO SCHOOL, AND THAT WE NEED TO ADDRESS THOSE DIFFERENCES WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF THE CLASSROOM THAT WE HAVE.

AND I WOULD HOPE THAT WE DO THAT FOR ALL OF OUR KIDS AT ALL GRADE LEVELS.

EVEN PARTICULARLY AT KINDERGARTEN, WHERE KIDS COME IN WITH A GREAT VARIETY.

SO I JUST WANT TO POINT OUT THAT THINGS ARE DIFFERENT NOW AND EXPECTATIONS ARE DIFFERENT.

OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS, I'VE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY WITH DOCTOR MINER TO VISIT MOUNTLAKE TERRACE HIGH SCHOOL AND WESTGATE ELEMENTARY AND SEAVIEW ELEMENTARY.

GOT TO TALK TO TEACHERS, GOT TO TALK TO KIDS, GOT TO SEE WHAT WAS GOING ON.

IT I LOVE VISITING.

I APPRECIATE ALL OF THE STAFF WHO LET US COME INTO THEIR CLASSROOMS AND THE KIDS WHO TELL US ABOUT WHAT THEY'RE LEARNING.

LAST NIGHT I WAS ABLE TO ATTEND A TOUR OF COLLEGE PLACE MIDDLE SCHOOL THAT WAS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.

I WANT TO THANK HARMONY WEINBERG AND, TAIN WILTON AND LYDIA SELLIE AND THE THE PRINCIPAL, ANDREA COLLINS, FOR DOING A VERY LOVELY JOB.

IT WAS INFORMATIVE.

IT WAS FACTUAL.

IT WAS SIMPLY SHOWING PEOPLE THERE WAS A GREAT TURNOUT OF PEOPLE WHO WALKED THROUGH COLLEGE PLACE MIDDLE SCHOOL AND SAW WHAT THE CONDITION IS. AND IT WAS THE INFORMATION THAT WAS AVAILABLE WAS JUST A VERY HELPFUL THING.

I THINK IT WAS IN RESPONSE TO REQUESTS FROM PEOPLE TO SEE, A SCHOOL THAT WAS IS ON THE BOND.

AND THEN WITH REGARD TO I WANT TO FOLLOW UP, I HAVE SPOKEN A FEW TIMES ABOUT THE FUNDING ADVOCACY THAT ANDY NOFZIGER AND I HAVE BEEN DOING.

AND SO SINCE THE LAST BOARD MEETING, TWO SIGNIFICANT.

EVENTS HAPPEN.

I HAVE NO IDEA IF THEY'LL HAVE ANY EFFECT, BUT ONE WAS AN OP ED THAT THE SEATTLE TIMES PUBLISHED FROM ANDI AND ME THAT LOOKED AT THE GOVERNOR'S BUDGET AND REALLY TRIED TO UNPACK WHAT THE IMPACTS ARE, AND HOW LITTLE SOME OF IT WOULD HELP US AND WHAT WE REALLY NEED.

AND BASED ON THAT, KING5 NEWS DECIDED THAT THEY WANTED TO INTERVIEW US AND DID AN INTERVIEW WHERE THEY ALLOWED ANDI AND I TO TALK ABOUT THE JUST THE NEED THAT THAT SCHOOL DISTRICTS HAVE.

SO WE'RE DOING THE BEST WE CAN ACROSS THE VARIOUS ADVOCACY AVENUES.

IT'S IT'S A VERY TOUGH LIFT BECAUSE THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE OUT THERE WHO BELIEVE THAT, QUOTE, THEY HAVE GIVEN A LOT OF MONEY TO EDUCATION, BUT HONESTLY, THE AMOUNT OF MONEY THAT THEY HAVE GIVEN TO EDUCATION IS LESS PROPORTIONALLY THAN THE OVERALL STATE BUDGET.

AND OUR PERCENT OF THE STATE BUDGET THAT GOES TO PUBLIC EDUCATION IS GOING DOWN.

IT'S GONE DOWN FROM 50% TO 44%.

AND IF THEY DON'T GIVE US A SHARE OF THAT $1.2 BILLION SURPLUS, IT'S THAT PERCENT IS GOING TO GO DOWN EVEN MORE.

AND SO WE'RE JUST PEOPLE ACROSS THE STATE ARE DOING THE BEST WE CAN.

WE DO NEED FOR ALL OF OUR CONSTITUENTS WHO UNDERSTAND THE NEED FOR, GETTING STATE MONEY, FOR BASICALLY OUR GENERAL FUND TO COVER TEACHER SALARY PARAEDUCATOR SALARY CURRICULUM.

KEEP TRYING TO KEEP CLASS SIZES LOW.

I MEAN, THESE ARE JUST CRITICAL PIECES.

WE JUST ASK OUR CONSTITUENTS, RIGHT? THE LEGISLATORS, YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE TO HAVE KNOW THE SPECIFIC BILLS TO SAY.

I MEAN, THEY ALL RECEIVED A LETTER FROM ANDI AND ME.

YOU CAN REFER TO THAT, THAT LETTER, THEY'VE SEEN IT SEVERAL TIMES NOW.

AND JUST ASK THEM TO AMPLY FUND OUR SCHOOLS THAT WE DESPERATELY NEED IT.

WITH THAT BEING SAID, I'LL TURN IT OVER TO DOCTOR MINER I WE WILL GET OUT.

OUR COMMUNICATIONS TEAM WILL GET THOSE LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES OUT TO ALL OF OUR LEGISLATORS, NOW THAT THEY'VE BEEN APPROVED BY THE BOARD, WITH THE RECOGNITION THAT THOSE

[01:50:01]

ARE OUR PRIORITIES FOR THIS YEAR.

A COUPLE OF THINGS I'D LIKE TO JUST SAY THANK YOU TO OUR TEACHERS, OUR COMMUNITY, OUR STUDENTS FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND PERSEVERANCE DURING THE WEATHER SITUATIONS.

LAST WEEK WE, I APPRECIATE THAT PEOPLE SEEM TO UNDERSTAND.

AND IF THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND, THEY CALL AND WE EXPLAIN.

WEATHER CONDITIONS CAN BE QUITE VARIABLE THROUGHOUT THE DISTRICT.

SO UNFORTUNATELY, WITHIN MERE VERTICAL FEET OF WHAT IS RAIN AT ONE PERSON'S PLACE IS INCREDIBLY SLICK ICE AT ANOTHER PERSON'S PLACE.

WE TRUST THE JUDGMENT OF THOSE IN OUR DISTRICT WHO START ABOUT 3 A.M., LOOKING AT THINGS.

WE TRY IN BOTH CASES THIS WEEK, AS YOU KNOW, WE TRY TO TAKE A STAB AT IT THE FIRST TIME TO SAY, MAYBE WE CAN GO TWO HOURS LATE.

BUT AS THEY CONTINUED TO MONITOR, JUST DETERMINE THAT THAT WAS NOT GOING TO BE A SAFE COURSE OF ACTION FOR US.

SO I KNOW THAT CAN BE FRUSTRATING, AND I APPRECIATE EVERYONE'S PATIENCE AS WE JUST WORK TO STRIKE THAT BALANCE BETWEEN LET'S GET THERE IF WE CAN AND NOT HAVE TO RESCHEDULE.

BUT LET'S ALSO NOT PUT ANYONE AT RISK SO HAPPY, THAT WE SEEM TO BE THROUGH THAT AND WATCHING THE TEN DAY FORECAST WITH, SEEMINGLY NICE, NICE ROADS AHEAD, OR AT LEAST JUST RAINY ROADS.

SECOND, I WOULD LIKE TO SAY, WE DO HAVE OUR FINAL COMMUNITY BOND PRESENTATION, WHICH WAS RESCHEDULED DUE TO A SNOW DAY.

IT WILL BE ON JANUARY 30TH.

IN SOME WAYS THAT'S KIND OF NICE BECAUSE IT'S AFTER THE BALLOTS DROP, SO MAYBE PEOPLE WILL GET THOSE AND REALIZE THEY HAVE SOME QUESTIONS OR WOULD LIKE TO SEE A PRESENTATION.

THAT PRESENTATION IS JANUARY 30TH AT MOUNTLAKE TERRACE HIGH SCHOOL AT 5:30, SO HOPEFULLY WE'LL HAVE A NICE TURNOUT FOR THAT.

AND FINALLY, I KNOW I SPEAK FOR ALL OF CABINET WHEN I SAY IT WAS OUR PLEASURE TO SUPPORT MEADOWDALE ELEMENTARY IN ANY WAY WE COULD.

SUCH AN INCREDIBLY HARD THING FOR THAT STAFF AND THOSE STUDENTS.

BUT, LOOKING FORWARD TO CONTINUING TO SUPPORT YOU IN ANY WAY WE CAN DURING THIS VERY DIFFICULT TIME FOR ALL OF YOU.

THANK YOU, DOCTOR MINER.

IMPORTANT ISSUES THAT YOU'RE ADDRESSING, AND WE APPRECIATE ALL YOUR EFFORTS.

THE LAST ON THE ITEM ON THE AGENDA IS THE USUAL ONE, WHICH IS, ARE THERE ANY NEW TOPICS OR ITEMS THAT WE WOULD LIKE TO ADD TO ANY OF OUR MEETINGS AT ANY TIME?

[18. ITEMS FOR FUTURE CONSIDERATION OR INFORMATION]

JUST PUT ME ON THE AGENDA, PLEASE.

PUT YOU ON THE AGENDA, NOT ME, THE, I'LL GIVE YOU THE WORDING LATER.

INTERSCHOLASTIC ACTIVITY.

THE WIAA.

SO DO YOU WANT TO BE A REGULAR? OH, NO. NO.

THE BUSINESS WILL BE TAKEN CARE OF IN THE NEXT MEETING OR SO.

OKAY. SOUNDS GOOD.

ANYTHING ELSE? OKAY. WELL, WITH THAT BEING SAID, THIS REGULAR BUSINESS MEETING OF THE EDMONDS SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD OF DIRECTORS IS ADJOURNED.
