[3. RECONVENE BUSINESS MEETING 6:30 pm]

[5. LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT-6:33 pm]

[6. FLAG SALUTE-6:35 pm]

[7. SUPERINTENDENT OATH OF OFFICE]

[00:02:48]

EXCITED AND JUST APPRECIATE ALL THE WORK YOU'VE PUT INTO THIS.

THIS IS KAREN.

[8. APPROVAL OF AGENDA-6:37 pm]

I JUST WANT TO DITTO WHAT KAREN SAID.

THIS IS NANCY THAT MARA YOU'VE DONE AN AMAZING JOB.

THIS IS VERY COMPREHENSIVE REPORT, VERY DETAILED, NICE AND LINEAR, WHICH I LOVE, LINEAR AND ORGANIZED.

AND IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU'RE DOTTING ALL THE I'S AND CROSSING ALL THE T'S AND WE'RE EXCITED TO SEE THIS COME TO FRUITION.

IT'S EXCITING.

GOT IT. IT'S A TEAM EFFORT, BUT YOU'VE BEEN A GREAT LEADER IN THE TEAM.

WE APPRECIATE IT.

THANK YOU. AND THANK YOU FOR STAYING UP SO LATE IN ATLANTA TO OUR MEETING.

NEXT ON THE AGENDA IS A REPORT FROM THE NATIVE EDUCATION ABOUT NATIVE EDUCATION IN EDMONDS.

[00:05:04]

AND I BELIEVE MARY WILLIAMS WILL BE DOING THAT REPORT.

MARY. THERE WE GO.

AND KAREN ELLIOT IS WITH ME THIS EVENING.

SHE'S OUR TITLE SIX COORDINATOR.

SO WE'RE DOING THIS IN TANDEM.

SO. PERFECT.

SO CURRENTLY WE HAVE OVER 300 NATIVE STUDENTS WHO IDENTIFY AS NATIVE AMERICAN INDIAN IN OUR DISTRICT.

HOWEVER, TO BE RECEIVING FUNDING FROM THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, WE HAVE TO HAVE 506 FORMS FILLED OUT FOR THEM AND SO FAR WE HAVE 63 FORMS CURRENTLY THAT HAVE BEEN FILLED OUT, WHICH IS AN INCREASE OF ABOUT 20 FROM WHERE WE WERE LAST YEAR.

SO KAREN REALLY WORKED HARD THIS YEAR ON INCREASING THOSE NUMBERS AND WE ARE CURRENTLY WORKING TO CONTINUE TO HAVE SOME SYSTEMS IN PLACE THAT WILL CONTINUE TO INCREASE THE NUMBERS OF STUDENTS THAT HAVE FILLED OUT THEIR FORMS SO THAT WE CAN HAVE AN INCREASE IN FUNDING TO BETTER SUPPORT SOME OF THE THINGS WE'RE GOING TO TALK ABOUT THIS EVENING.

SOME OF OUR NATIVE TRIBES ARE LISTED HERE.

DO YOU WANT TO SHARE WITH US? YES. MY NAME IS KAREN ELLIOT.

I AM THE TITLE SIX INDIAN EDUCATION SPECIALIST FOR OUR NATIVE EDUCATION PROGRAM.

AND RIGHT NOW, WHAT YOU SEE HERE, WE HAVE TEN FOR OUR PAN INDIAN.

AND IN OUR URBAN SETTING, WE HAVE TEN TRIBES, WE HAVE FOUR ALASKA NATIVES, WE HAVE THREE PLAINS, AND WE HAVE THREE WASHINGTON STATE TRIBES.

SO TOGETHER THAT COMBINES THE 63 STUDENTS.

WE HAVE MORE THAT ARE FROM THE 300 AS WELL.

AND SO WE WANTED TO JUST SHARE SOME DATA WITH YOU.

IT'S A LITTLE BIT HARD TO SEE, BUT WE JUST WANTED TO SHARE WITH YOU WHERE WE'RE SEEING OUR NATIVE STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT AT AND REALLY THE NEED TO CONTINUE TO FOCUS ON THIS GROUP OF STUDENTS.

FROM LOOKING AT THE DATA, YOU CAN SEE THAT OUR NATIVE STUDENTS, PERCENTAGE WISE IN ALL THREE AREAS, ARE

[9. SUPERINTENDENT REPORT-6:50 pm]

IN ONE OF THE LOWER GROUPS, NOT THE LOWEST BUT ONE OF THE LOWER DEPENDING ON SUBJECT AREA.

AND THIS WAS FROM THE FALL SBA AS WELL AS THE FALL SAME RESULTS.

SO SO WE JUST WANTED TO HIGHLIGHT THAT BECAUSE WE REALLY WANT TO WE'RE REALLY WORKING TO FIND SOME WAYS TO BETTER SUPPORT THIS GROUP OF STUDENTS AS WELL AS THEIR FAMILIES AND COMMUNITY.

YOU CAN GO TO THE NEXT SLIDE.

ALSO YOU CAN SEE HERE, BECAUSE OUR GROUP IS SO SMALL RIGHT NOW, THE GRADUATION RATES ARE SUPPRESSED.

HOWEVER, IF YOU GO TO THE NEXT SLIDE.

YOU CAN SEE THAT WE ALSO ARE SEEING LOWER ATTENDANCE FROM OUR NATIVE STUDENTS AS WELL.

AND. SO YOU CAN ALSO SEE THAT THERE ARE LOWER PERCENTAGES OF ATTENDANCE FROM OUR NATIVE STUDENTS AS WELL.

SO RIGHT NOW WE SERVE AND WE'RE GOING TO TALK A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT OUR TITLE THREE NATIVE STUDENTS AND WHAT WE'RE DOING FOR THEM.

BUT WE'RE SERVING A TOTAL OF 14 STUDENTS THAT RECEIVE TITLE THREE SUPPORT AS WELL.

SIX ARE REGISTERED AND EIGHT ARE NON REGISTERED OR THEIR REGISTRATION IS IN THE WORKS CURRENTLY AND WE HAVE BEEN MAKING SOME ADJUSTMENTS.

SO YEAH, YEAH.

COULD YOU EXPLAIN TO THE AUDIENCE WHAT TITLE THREE AND WHAT TITLE? YEP. I'M GOING TO DO THAT RIGHT NOW.

THANK YOU. SO TITLE THREE SUPPORTS OUR MULTILINGUAL LEARNERS.

AND SO IF OUR NATIVE STUDENTS TAKE THE WIDA ASSESSMENT AND QUALIFY OR THE WE TO SCREENER AND QUALIFY, WIDA IS OUR LANGUAGE ASSESSMENT FOR THE STATE.

SO IF THEY TAKE THAT AND THEY QUALIFY FOR SERVICES, THEN WE CAN PROVIDE THEM WITH ADDITIONAL SERVICES.

[00:10:06]

UTILIZING TITLE THREE FUNDS, TITLE SIX FUNDS COME JUST TO SUPPORT STUDENTS, GENERALLY SPEAKING, MORE WITH COMMUNITY EVENTS AND WORKING ON COMMUNITY INITIATIVES.

WHEREAS THE TITLE THREE GIVES US AN OPPORTUNITY TO DO SOME MORE INDIVIDUALIZED WORK.

DOES THAT HELP EVERYBODY? SO WE CAN GO.

SO WE SPOKE BEFORE I TURN IT OVER TO KAREN.

WE SPOKE WITH OUR IPC BOARD, WHICH IS OUR PARENT BOARD.

THAT IS LITERALLY MY CHILD CALLING WHILE I'M PRESENTING.

SHE'S THE ONLY ONE THAT CAN RING THROUGH.

SO I APOLOGIZE.

WE WORKED WITH OUR INDIAN PARENT COMMITTEE TO COME UP WITH AREAS THAT THEY WERE HOPING TO BE ABLE TO HAVE SUPPORT, TO BE ABLE TO WORK ON TOGETHER WITH OUR MULTILINGUAL DEPARTMENT AND WITH KAREN SPECIFICALLY.

AND SO WE CAME UP WITH THESE 4CS, AND KAREN'S GOING TO WALK THROUGH THAT.

HI. YES. AND I JUST WANTED TO THANK THE IPC GROUP FOR HELPING US COME UP WITH THIS.

SO I'M READY FOR THE NEXT SLIDE.

OH, WELL, THE 4CS ARE COMMUNITY, CULTURAL, COLLEGE READINESS AND CAREER READINESS.

SO THE FIRST ONE IS GOING TO BE COMMUNITY.

AND WITH COMMUNITY IS CONNECTING OUR STUDENTS WITH WHAT IS GOING ON IN THE EDMONDS AND LYNWOOD AREA SUCH AS OUR POW WOW, SUCH AS OUR STUDENT WHO DID MISSING AND MURDERS INDIGENOUS.

SHE'S THE SENIOR AT OR SHE JUST GRADUATED AT EDMONDS WOODWAY.

SO THOSE ARE KIND OF SOME OF THE COMMUNITIES THAT WE HAVE BEEN WORKING ON THIS YEAR.

ALSO LEADERSHIP WORKSHOP FOR OUR IPC FOR TRAINING.

WE HAVE A FABULOUS PERSON THAT WE MET.

HER NAME WAS EARLY BALA.

SHE HAS DONE OTHER DISTRICTS MEETINGS AND WE WANT WHAT WE WANTED TO DO IS IS TO CREATE FOUR COMMITTEES WITHIN THAT.

WITH THAT, WE NEED ELECTIONS.

OUR AUCTION, WHICH WE HAD THIS YEAR, EVENTS IN OUR END OF THE YEAR, THOSE ARE THE AREAS THAT WE REALLY NEED HELP WITH, WITH THE IPC, IF ALSO WE WANT TO.

I'M SORRY. WE ALSO WANT TO CREATE SOME HIGH SCHOOL NATIVE CLUBS.

AND WITH THAT WE WANTED TO CREATE DIFFERENT TYPES OF COMMUNITY THERE AS WELL.

OKAY, I'M READY FOR THE NEXT ONE.

JUST TO SAY, EARLENE IS SOMEBODY THAT HAS WORKED IN TITLE SIX FURTHER SOUTH DOWN IN WASHINGTON STATE.

AND SO SHE HAS EXPERIENCE WORKING AS A TITLE SIX COORDINATOR AND NOW DOES WORK WITH IPC BOARDS TO HELP THEM BE EFFICIENTLY RUNNING AND BUT STILL BE IN LINE WITH THEIR NATIVE BELIEFS, ETC..

THANK YOU. THE NEXT ONE IS GOING TO BE CAREER READINESS.

OH, CULTURAL. OH.

AM I TOO QUICK TO CLOSE? OKAY. THERE WE GO.

SO IN OUR CULTURAL, WE HAVE WE FOUND OUT ABOUT A NEW PROGRAM CALLED MASTERY BASE. AND WHAT THAT DOES IS THAT THE INDIVIDUAL CAN COME IN AND HAVE A THEIR OWN SPECIAL EDUCATION FROM HOME OR FROM THEIR CULTURAL TO ADD TO THEIR ACADEMICS.

SO SUCH AS BEADING.

BEADING COULD ADD TO MATH.

IT COULD ADD TO DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE ACADEMIC SCIENCE.

READING, ENGLISH, WRITING, WRITING ABOUT THEIR EXPERIENCES.

[00:15:02]

WRITING ABOUT HOW EACH THE BEADING.

SO THAT IS ONE THING THAT I'M VERY EXCITED ABOUT CREATING THIS YEAR.

ALSO, FAMILY NIGHTS THIS YEAR, I BROUGHT IN SOME REALLY COOL STORYTELLING AND ALSO SOME ARTWORK AND CREATING SOME MORE CULTURAL EVENTS, CREATING SPACE FOR HEALING.

THE SINCE TIME IMMEMORIAL CURRICULUM AND CREATING CULTURAL LEARNING AT NATIVE CLUBS IN MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL.

[10. APPROVAL OF MINUTES-6:55 pm]

THOSE ARE THE GOALS FOR THIS YEAR.

THEIR CAREER? OR COULD I INTERRUPT WITH A QUICK CLARIFICATION QUESTION? SO INTERESTING, BUT I'M CURIOUS WHERE YOU TALK ABOUT THAT.

STUDENTS CAN GAIN MASTERY BASED CREDIT FOR INDIVIDUALIZED NATIVE AMERICAN LEADERS WHO ARE LEADERS FOR STUDENTS.

COMMUNITY NATURAL LEADER CALLING.

COULD YOU EXPLAIN WHAT THAT IS? YES. YEAH.

SO THERE'S ACTUALLY WASHINGTON STATE MASTERY BASED CREDIT WORK HAPPENING.

AND THAT'S SOMETHING THAT ALSO OUR DIRECTOR OF SECONDARY AND CTE HAVE BEEN WORKING ON.

SO LOOKING AT WHAT ARE THE ASSETS THAT STUDENTS BRING WITH THEM FROM THEIR CULTURE THAT COULD QUALIFY TO BE ABLE TO BE CREDIT FOR THEIR HIGH SCHOOL? BECAUSE WE UNDERSTAND AND KNOW THAT OUR NATIVE STUDENTS LEARN DIFFERENTLY, CULTURALLY FUNCTION DIFFERENTLY.

AND SO LOOKING AT HOW WE CAN BE ASSET BASED AROUND THEIR LEARNING IS, IS SOMETHING THAT IS BEING LOOKED AT AROUND THE STATE AND THE NAME OF THEIR [INAUDIBLE] SHE IS SOMEONE IN ANOTHER DISTRICT DOWN SOUTH THAT HAS BEEN DOING THIS WORK WITH WASHINGTON STATE

[11. CONSENT AGENDA-7:00 pm]

AND IS SOMEONE THAT KAREN WILL BE ABLE TO PARTNER WITH NEXT YEAR ALONG WITH THE DIRECTORS OF SECONDARY AND CTE TO DO FURTHER LOOKING INTO AND FURTHER WORK ON.

WHAT ARE THE SPECIFIC CREDITS THAT COULD BE ACQUIRED FOR CERTAIN NATIVE WORK, NATIVE TRADITIONS, ETC.? DOES THAT HELP? IT DOES, AND I THINK IT'S A GREAT IDEA.

AND I'M PARTICULARLY INTERESTED BECAUSE WE'VE JUST PASSED MASTERY BASED CREDIT POLICIES.

SO I WANT TO MAKE SURE THERE'S AN INTERSECTION BETWEEN THE WORK THAT YOU'RE DOING AND WHEN IT'S TIME TO MAKE SURE THAT'S EMBEDDED IN THE DISTRICT POLICY AS WELL. YEAH.

AND SO THAT'S WE LEARNED ABOUT THAT AS WELL ONCE WE LEARNED ABOUT THIS FROM [INAUDIBLE].

AND AND SO WE ARE LOOKING AT HOW KAREN CAN EMBED THE NATIVE, THE TITLE SIX WORK AS WELL.

GREAT. THANK YOU.

THANK YOU.

ALL RIGHT, SO THE NEXT C IS COLLEGE READINESS.

I AM HAVING A YOUTH CONFERENCE AT EDMONDS COLLEGE IN AUGUST.

[12. PUBLIC COMMENTS-7:10 pm]

TOMORROW, I'LL HAVE A DEFINITE DATE AND TIME.

AND THROUGH THAT, I AM GOING TO HAVE COLLEGE AND CAREER AND INVITED TO FOR WORKSHOPS. AND WE'RE GOING TO HAVE, LIKE, WORKSHOPS FOR ESSAY WRITING, FSA OR FINANCIAL AID.

ALSO, DIFFERENT COLLEGES.

THE UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON.

ALSO NORTHWEST PACIFIC COLLEGE, WHICH IS IN BELLINGHAM.

IT'S A NATIVE COLLEGE SPECIFICALLY.

ALSO ALSO EDMONDS COLLEGE, DEFINITELY.

AND WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TOURS THERE TOO AS WELL, WHICH I'M EXCITED ABOUT.

ALSO BRINGING IN TULALIP TECHNICAL COLLEGE, IT'S FREE.

THEY HAVE FREE PROGRAMS FOR NATIVE AMERICAN STUDENTS WHO WANT TO GO INTO THE WORKFORCE.

THEY HAVE SHEET METAL, THEY HAVE ELECTRONICS, PLUMBING, AND THE LIST GOES ON FOR THAT.

AND SO IT'S FREE FOR NATIVE AMERICANS.

WITH THOSE LITTLE CARDS THAT WE USE ON OUR 506 FORMS. SO THAT'S IT FOR COLLEGE READINESS.

THE NEXT C IS CAREER READINESS.

AND WITH THIS, WE WANT TO HAVE SOME RESUME WORKSHOPS, JOB INTERVIEWS, ALSO GETTING COMMUNITY MEMBERS SUCH AS MAINE

[00:20:09]

PEOPLE, EVEN STARBUCKS, WHO, YOU KNOW, TO BE TO COME TO OUR YOUTH CONFERENCE TO HAVE SOME INTERNS FOR THEIR ORGANIZATIONS.

SO I'M WORKING ON THOSE THINGS, TOO, AS WELL.

THIS IS A LIST OF THINGS RESUME WORKSHOPS, JOB INTERVIEWS, JOB CREATING PARTNERS.

OH, I ALREADY TALKED ABOUT FOOD HANDLERS.

PERMIT HAIR STYLING, NURSING ASSISTANT AUTO REPAIR.

SO THESE ARE THE KINDS OF THINGS I WANT TO INTRODUCE TO OUR STUDENTS.

ALSO IN, OH, YEAH.

OKAY. NEXT SLIDE.

ALSO COMMUNITY HEALING.

ONE OF THE THINGS THAT OUR PARENT COMMITTEE AT OUR HAD EXPRESSED WAS THEY WANTED SOME HEALING WITHIN THE COMMUNITY FROM PROBABLY EVEN COVID.

ALSO THE TRAUMAS FROM COVID, THE TRAUMAS FROM EVERYDAY LIFE, AND ALSO TRAUMAS FROM THAT HAVE BEEN PASSED DOWN FROM BOARDING SCHOOLS.

SO WE MARY'S GOING TO EXPLAIN SOME MORE ABOUT THAT.

YEAH. SO THIS WAS SOMETHING THAT OUR PARENT GROUP REALLY BROUGHT FORWARD AND SAID, WE'VE GOT TO DO SOME COMMUNITY HEALING AND OUR CHILDREN ARE FUNCTIONING WITHIN A SYSTEM THAT IS NOT DESIGNED NECESSARILY FOR THEIR SUCCESS.

SO BUT THE FIRST THING WE NEED TO DO BEFORE WE EVEN LOOK AT HOW WE CAN SHIFT THE SYSTEM IS LOOK AT HOW WE CAN HEAL AND FEEL THAT WE AS NATIVE COMMUNITY MEMBERS CAN HAVE MORE INPUT.

SO IF YOU CAN GO TO THE NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE.

SO WE'RE LOOKING AT A COUPLE OF DIFFERENT WAYS TO DO THIS.

WE'RE LOOKING AT HAVING STUDENTS INVOLVED WITH AND BE TRIBAL LEADERS THAT ARE IDENTIFIED BY NATIVE STUDENTS, HAVING THEM WORK WITH OUR STUDENTS TO CREATE DIVERSE WAYS THAT HEALING WOULD BE HELP.

WHAT WAYS CAN WE HELP THEM HEAL? BECAUSE WE DON'T WANT TO GO IN.

EVEN WITH KAREN BEING A NATIVE PERSON, SHE CANNOT ASSUME THAT SHE KNOWS.

WE CANNOT ASSUME THAT OUR DEPARTMENT KNOWS WHAT IT IS THAT THEY'RE NEEDING.

AND WE'RE LOOKING ALSO TO DO THIS WITH FAMILIES AND NATIVE COMMUNITIES.

AND WE'RE LOOKING ARLIE AND MARJORIE ARE TWO NATIVE FOLKS IN THE AREA THAT HAVE DONE A LOT OF WORK AROUND HEALING. AND SO WE'RE LOOKING TO PARTNER WITH THEM.

THAT IS SOMETHING THAT WE HIGHLIGHTED IN OUR TITLE SIX GRANT THAT WE SUBMITTED TO THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT THAT THIS WAS A REQUEST FROM THE FAMILIES TO HAVE HEALING WORK BE DONE.

AND SO WE'RE LOOKING TO WORK WITH THE TULALIP TRIBES AS WELL AS UTILIZE SOME FUNDS FROM A GRANT THAT WE HAVE FROM THE NAME IS GONE.

EDMONDS COMMUNITY QUITE OFTEN SO AND THEN ALSO THEN LIKE I SAID, TITLE SIX FUNDS.

SO WE'RE LOOKING AT WAYS THAT WE CAN GO ABOUT SUPPORTING THE HEALING WORK.

IF YOU COULD GO TO THE NEXT SLIDE.

AND SO SOME OF THE WAYS THAT WE'RE LOOKING AT DOING THAT IS A REALLY KEY PIECE IS GOING TO BE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT.

I CAN SAY IN MY TIME, JUST IN THIS ONE SCHOOL YEAR THAT I'VE BEEN HERE, I'VE RECEIVED EMAILS, ETC., FROM PARENTS WHO ARE LIKE MY CHILDREN'S TEACHERS DON'T UNDERSTAND THE NATIVE EXPERIENCE.

WHEN THEY TALK ABOUT THE NATIVE EXPERIENCE IN SOCIAL STUDIES.

THEY ARE NOT SPEAKING TO WHAT HAS TRULY HAPPENED.

THEY DON'T HAVE A REALLY DEEP UNDERSTANDING.

SO ONE OF THE PIECES THAT WAS ASKED WAS TO HAVE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, BE A PART OF THE LEARNING FOR OUR STAFF.

THERE'S NOT MAL INTENT.

THEY JUST NEED TO HAVE THE THE CORRECT INFORMATION AND BE REGULARLY TRAINED.

THEN THEY WERE ALSO LOOKING AT FORMING COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS WITH TRIBES AND WITH NATIVE STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES.

I'M CONTINUING PARTNERSHIPS WITH SOME LOCAL AREAS OF GROUPS THAT SUPPORT NATIVE FOLKS.

[00:25:05]

SO THE EDMONDS COLLEGE AND THE GROUP THAT WORKS ON THEIR POWWOWS, DAYBREAK STAR, THE SEATTLE INDIAN HEALTH BOARD, ETC..

AND THEN WE'RE ALSO LOOKING TO PARTNER WITH SOME GROUPS THAT ARE ALREADY SUPPORTING MENTAL HEALTH FOR OUR NATIVE FAMILIES AND COMMUNITY, AS WELL AS LOOKING AT DRUGS, ALCOHOL AND ADDICTION.

THAT IS A HUGE PIECE IN THE NATIVE COMMUNITY AND LOOKING AT HOW WE CAN PROVIDE RESOURCES AND CONNECT PEOPLE WITH RESOURCES AS WELL AS PARENTING CLASSES.

ONE OF THE THINGS THAT ISN'T TALKED ABOUT OFTEN OR IS MORE BEING TALKED ABOUT MORE SO NOW IS THE IMPACT THAT HAS OCCURRED WITH THE IMPACT WITHIN THE NATIVE COMMUNITY IN PARENTING BECAUSE OF THE BOARDING SCHOOL EXPERIENCE FROM SO MANY PARENTS.

SO LOOKING AT HOW WE CAN SUPPORT OUR PARENTS IN EFFECTIVE PARENTING, CONSIDERING THAT MANY OF THEM EITHER DIDN'T RECEIVE EFFECTIVE PARENTING BECAUSE THEIR PARENTS WERE IN BOARDING SCHOOLS OR BECAUSE THEY THEMSELVES WERE IN BOARDING SCHOOLS.

SO TRYING TO BREAK THAT CYCLE AND GIVE SOME NEW TOOLS AND RESOURCES WHILE STILL HONORING SOME OF THE NATIVE TRADITIONS AND THE NATIVE CULTURE ITSELF.

NEXT SLIDE. AND THEN OUR LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT.

I WANT TO SAY I WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE WORK THAT'S ALREADY BEEN DONE BECAUSE IT REALLY IS A GREAT LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT AND I KNOW THAT TULALIP WAS PARTNERED WITH, ETC..

THE ONE PIECE THAT OUR STUDENTS AND FAMILIES HAVE ASKED IS THAT THEY WOULD LIKE TO HAVE INPUT AROUND WHAT WE'RE WORKING TOWARDS SO THAT IT CAN BE MORE SPECIFIC ABOUT WHAT OUR AIMS ARE.

SO WHAT ARE WE SPECIFICALLY IN EDMONDS DOING TO SUPPORT THE NATIVE COMMUNITY AND TO ACKNOWLEDGE WHAT HAS HAPPENED IN MOVING FORWARD? AND SO THAT WAS A PIECE THAT HAS BEEN ASKED AND ALSO THEN STUDENTS IN THE HIGH SCHOOLS WANTING TO HAVE THE LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT BE OCCURRING MORE OFTEN BECAUSE WE'RE SEEING WE SEE THE PLEDGE HAPPEN OFTEN.

WE'RE NOT SEEING THE LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT HAPPEN AS OFTEN.

SO HAVING THAT BE SOMETHING THAT'S REGULARLY OCCURRING, NOT JUST FOR OUR MEETINGS, BUT ALSO FOR OUR STUDENTS.

NEXT SLIDE. THEN KAREN PROBABLY LOOKED AT ME LIKE, OH MY GOSH, THIS LADY'S CRAZY.

WHEN I TOLD HER, HEY, I KNOW WE ONLY HAVE 14 STUDENTS, BUT WE REALLY NEED TO BE LOOKING.

I KNOW THAT THE DISTRICT IS DOING WORK ON MTSS AND I REALLY THINK THAT WE NEED TO BE LOOKING ON HOW WE CAN MORE EFFECTIVELY IN A DATA DRIVEN WAY, SUPPORT OUR NATIVE STUDENTS AND STILL BE CULTURALLY RESPONSIVE.

SO KAREN AND I HAVE BEEN WORKING ON THIS TOGETHER AND I APPRECIATE, YOU KNOW, I COME WITH THE THE DATA DRIVEN LOVE, THAT KIND OF STUFF SCHOOL LEADER VIEW AND SHE COMES WITH THE NATIVE, YOU KNOW, THINKING ABOUT COMMUNITY AND CULTURAL VIEW.

AND I THINK IT'S BEEN A GOOD EXPERIENCE.

YEAH. LIKE GOOD FOR US TO MESH THOSE TWO TOGETHER.

SO WE'RE LOOKING AT HOW WE'RE USING OUR TITLE THREE FUNDS TO EFFECTIVELY SUPPORT OUR NATIVE STUDENTS.

SO IF YOU COULD GO TO THE NEXT SLIDE.

SO WE'VE STARTED TO DEVELOP A DATA DRIVEN APPROACH THAT'S MONITORED ON A 5 TO 6 WEEK CYCLE, JUST LIKE SIMILAR TO WHAT YOU WOULD SEE FROM AN MTS CYCLE.

AND WE'RE LOOKING AT STUDENT NEEDS, TEACHER PRACTICE, AND WE'RE TAKING INPUT IN NOT JUST FROM THE TEACHER BUT ALSO FROM THE FAMILY AND THEN FROM THE DATA AS WELL.

SO IF YOU GO TO THE NEXT SLIDE.

SO THEN WE ARE IDENTIFYING THE STUDENTS.

LIKE I SAID EARLIER, THEY GO THROUGH A SCREENER AND IF THEY QUALIFY, THEN WE SEND OUT WE HAVE GOOGLE FORMS AND I BELIEVE WE LINKED THEM TO THE SLIDE DECK SO YOU ALL CAN LOOK AT THEM AT ANOTHER TIME.

AND SO IF THEY QUALIFY, WE SEND OUT TO THE STAFF AS WELL AS TO FAMILIES AND THEN COME UP WITH WHAT ARE GOING TO BE SOME SERVICES THAT CAN BE PROVIDED. WE'VE DONE THINGS LIKE WIGGLE SEATS AND FIDGETS.

WE'VE DONE THINGS LIKE EXTENDED SCHOOL DAY.

THERE'S A VARIETY.

SOMETIMES WE HAVE STUDENTS WHOSE FAMILIES THEY'RE WORKING ON READING, BUT THEIR FAMILIES CANNOT AFFORD BOOKS.

SO WE PUT TOGETHER LITTLE LIBRARIES FOR THEM TO HAVE IN THEIR HOME BASED ON THE STUDENT'S INTERESTS, ETC.

SO THERE'S A VARIETY OF THINGS THAT WE HAVE DONE AND CAN DO TO SUPPORT.

AND THEN WE FOLLOW UP EVERY 5 TO 6 WEEKS TO SEE HOW THOSE INTERVENTIONS ARE HELPING AND IF ADDITIONAL INTERVENTIONS ARE NEEDED AND WE ALTER AS

[00:30:10]

NEEDED. NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE.

AND I ALREADY TALKED ABOUT WHAT SOME OF THE SUPPORTS ARE.

JUST A MOMENT AGO. SO IT COULD ALSO BE TOOLS, NOT JUST BOOKS, BUT OTHER TOOLS THAT ARE NEEDED.

AND AND THEN WE'RE ALSO LOOKING AT HOW WE MIGHT BETTER SUPPORT THE STUDENTS BEING SEEN AND HEARD.

THAT'S ONE OF THE NEXT STEPS WE'RE LOOKING AT IS WE'RE PROVIDING THESE SUPPORTS AND WHAT THE TEACHER IS SAYING THAT THEY'RE NEEDING.

BUT THEN HOW DO WE HONOR WHAT THE FAMILY IS BRINGING AS WELL AND HELP INFORM THE TEACHER AND TEACHERS TO MORE EFFECTIVELY SUPPORT THAT SPECIFIC STUDENT'S NEEDS? NEXT SLIDE, WE'LL SHOW YOU THE LINKS TO THE TO THE FORMS. SO IF YOU'D LIKE TO LOOK AT THEM, YOU ARE WELCOME TO DO SO AT ANY TIME.

THESE ARE A WORK IN PROGRESS.

THIS IS SOMETHING WE'VE JUST STARTED, BUT WE'RE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT BEING INTENTIONAL ABOUT HOW WE SUPPORT THESE STUDENTS.

I SHOULD ALSO SAY THAT KAREN TRAINED OUR MULTILINGUAL TEACHERS OR STARTED TALKING WITH THEM ABOUT THIS WORK THIS SPRING, AND SHE'S GOING TO BE TRAINING ALL OF THEM IN THE FALL SO THAT THEY KNOW WHAT THEY NEED TO DO, IF THERE ARE NATIVE STUDENTS WITHIN THEIR BUILDING THAT ARE NEEDING SOME ADDITIONAL SUPPORT SO THAT WE CAN GET THEM THAT SUPPORT AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE.

NEXT SLIDE. AND THEN WE'RE LOOKING AT SYSTEMS SHIFTS.

WE'RE LOOKING AT HOPEFULLY HAVING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT ON EQUITABLE PRACTICES AND HISTORY SPOKE ABOUT THAT EARLIER.

AND THEN WE ARE WORKING WITH OUR SECONDARY WITH GREG AND HIS ASSISTANT ON 506 FORMS IN THE REGISTRATION PACKET.

SO ADDING THOSE SO THAT WHENEVER SOMEONE REGISTERS IN THE EDMONDS SCHOOL DISTRICT, THEY ARE, THEY ARE FILLING OUT A 506 FORM IF THEY IDENTIFY AS NATIVE AMERICAN OR INDIAN AND THEY ARE THEN CONTACTED BY KAREN, IF THE FORM IS NOT FILLED OUT CORRECTLY AND WE CAN HOPEFULLY THAT WILL INCREASE THE NUMBERS OF STUDENTS THAT ARE IDENTIFIED AND THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS THAT WE CAN SUPPORT. YEAH.

ALL RIGHT. I WANT TO INTRODUCE TO YOU OUR INDIAN PARENT COMMITTEE, OUR INDIAN.

WHEN I FIRST STARTED HERE ABOUT A YEAR AND A HALF AGO, WE HAD ZERO PARTICIPANTS, ZERO PARENTS.

SO I HAD TO PROMOTE AND THAT THESE NATURAL LEADERS INTO POSITIONS.

SO ANYWAYS NEXT SLIDE.

HERE IS THE OUR IPC CHART OUR CO-PRESIDENTS.

OH, OKAY.

WHAT I WANT TO DO IS I WANT TO EXPRESS HOW WONDERFUL THESE PARENTS ARE.

WHEN WE FIRST DID THE ELECTIONS.

THESE WERE PARENT COUPLES.

AND THE PARENT COUPLES JUST WANTED TO BE CO-CHAIRS.

AND SO THEY I DON'T THINK THERE'S ANYBODY IN WASHINGTON IN ANY IPC THAT HAS THIS KIND OF METHODOLOGY.

SO I'M VERY PROUD OF MY PARENTS WHO WANTED TO DO CO-CHAIRS AS AS PART OF THIS.

AND THEN I ALSO WANTED TO.

OH, WAIT, I'M SORRY. I'M TALKING.

I ALSO WANTED TO STRESS KYRA ISAAC.

KYRA ISAAC JUST GRADUATED FROM EDMONDS WOODWAY, AND SHE HAS DONE SO MANY COOL PROJECTS THIS YEAR.

ONE OF THE PROJECTS THAT SHE DID WAS AT EDMONDS LUTHERAN, AND SHE DID THE MISSING AND MURDERS INDIGENOUS PEOPLES, WHERE MANY OF THE NATIVE COMMUNITIES HAD GATHERED AND THEY HUNG UP THEIR BEAUTIFUL RED DRESSES.

AND SO KYRA DID AN AMAZING JOB COORDINATING THAT FOR FOR THE COMMUNITY.

AND THEN SHE, CAN YOU GO TO THE NEXT SLIDE? SO THESE ARE THE WORK IN PROGRESS WITH THE IPC.

THIS IS WHAT THEY HAVE DONE AND WHAT WE'RE GOING TO BE DOING.

[00:35:07]

YEAH. OK.

THE ONE OF THE SPECIAL PROJECTS WAS OUR AUCTION.

AND THIS YEAR WE HAD, WE HAD A FISCAL SPONSORSHIP WITH DEBORAH. AND WITH THE FOUNDATION, EDMONDS SCHOOL DISTRICTS FOUNDATION.

AND SO WE WERE ABLE TO HAVE AN ONLINE AUCTION AND RAISED ABOUT $1,700 AFTER ALL THE CREDIT CARDS HAVE GONE THROUGH. SO WE WERE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THAT.

WE CALLED THIS OUR PRACTICE SESSION BECAUSE WE HAD TO BUILD OUR SOFTWARE AND WE HAD TO BUILD ALL OF THAT.

A LETTER, OUR 506 OR NOT 506 OR 501C LETTER ALSO.

CAN YOU DO THE NEXT SLIDE? YES.

SO ONCE A YEAR, WE THERE'S TWO PHASES THAT ARE PART OF OUR FEDERAL GRANT FUNDING.

THE PHASE ONE IS OUR 506 FORM COUNT.

WE THIS IS WHERE WE ARE FROM JANUARY UNTIL MARCH, I ACTIVELY COLLECTED 506 FORMS WITH THE HELP OF COLUMN ALONE TO GET 506 FORMS ON OUR DOCUMENT SIGNED DOCUMENTS.

AND WITH THE 506 FORMS, ONCE WE GET THE COUNT IN, THEN WE GET THE DOLLAR AMOUNT IN. WITH THAT WE HAVE.

WE HAVE TO DO A COMMUNITY OPEN TO THE COMMUNITY AND THEN THE PARENT.

I WILL ORGANIZE IT AND WE VOTE ON IT OR THEY VOTE ON IT.

AND THEN THESE ARE THE THINGS THAT THEY VOTED ON THAT WE'VE ALREADY HAD TALKED ABOUT.

CAN WE DO THE NEXT SLIDE? ALL RIGHT. SO OUR COMMUNITY EVENTS HAVE ALREADY TALKED ABOUT THAT.

YOU CAN DO THE NEXT SLIDE, ACTUALLY.

WE I'VE HAD HOSTED THREE FAMILY NIGHTS OVER ZOOM, AND THE FIRST ONE WAS NOVEMBER NATIVE AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH, WHERE A LOCAL ARTIST, SONDRA SEGUNDO, READ HER BOOKS THAT SHE HAD WROTE.

AND THEN I HAD TWO STORYTELLERS IN THE FORM LINE ART WITH MARGIE MORRIS.

THE NEXT SLIDE. SO OUR END OF THE YEAR CELEBRATION IS VERY SPECIAL.

THE FIRST YEAR WE HAD IT OVER ZOOM AND IT WAS NICE, BUT IN PERSON WAS BETTER.

AND AT OUR END OF THE YEAR, EACH OF OUR STUDENTS HAD RECEIVED A LITTLE CERTIFICATE, A PROMOTION CERTIFICATE.

AND I ALSO LEFT A LINK ON HERE IF YOU GUYS WANT TO WATCH MY END OF THE YEAR VIDEO OF THE STUDENTS, I ALSO ALL OF THE SENIORS, WHICH WERE SEVEN, HAD RECEIVED A BLANKET FROM GENERATION EIGHT AND THE CERTIFICATES WERE HANDED TO ALL STUDENTS.

AND HERE IS ONE OF OUR SENIORS WHO HAD GRADUATED FROM SCRIBNER LAKE.

NEXT. ALSO ANOTHER.

I AM ALSO ON THE POWWOW COMMITTEE SO THAT I DON'T HAVE TO DO A POWWOW FOR OUR DISTRICT.

I CAN JUST EASILY HEAD TO EDMONDS COLLEGE.

AND ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE ARE GOING TO DO WITH AT THE EDMONDS COLLEGE IS HOST THE CHILDREN'S ACTIVITY. SO I WILL HAVE MANY ACTIVITIES, DIFFERENT ONES NEXT YEAR.

BUT THIS YEAR THEY MADE JEWELRY OUT OF THE PONY BEADS AND THEY ALSO MADE MOTHER'S DAY CARDS.

NEXT SLIDE. ALL RIGHT.

I WANTED TO INTRODUCE TO YOU THIS IS A NEW LOGO BY OUR.

HER NAME IS KYRA.

OUR STUDENT ADVISOR THAT I'VE ALREADY INTRODUCED TO YOU.

SO SHE MADE THIS.

I'M GOING TO RETIRE THE OTHER ONE.

BUT IT WILL STILL BE ON THE WEBSITE.

AND THE OTHER ONE.

BUT THIS ONE IS REALLY SPECIAL BECAUSE WE'RE JUST NOW GETTING OUT OF AND GOING INTO IN PERSON AND JUST

[00:40:08]

LEARNING ABOUT EACH OTHER.

AND KYRA DID AN AMAZING JOB FOR TWO YEARS OF BEING IN SERVICE ON HER IPC AS A STUDENT ADVISOR.

WHAT IS NEXT? NEXT SLIDE. SO, LIKE I'VE ALREADY SAID.

TOMORROW I'LL FIND OUT A SPECIFIC DATE AND TIME.

I'M HAVING MY NATIVE YOUTH CONFERENCE AT EDMONDS COLLEGE ON SEPTEMBER 9TH AT SPRUCE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.

THERE'S A TOTEM POLE DEDICATION, WHICH MY DAD DID HELP STUDENTS WITH THAT TOTEM POLE BACK IN 2009, 2007.

AND SO WE'RE GOING TO REDEDICATE THAT POLE AND PUT IT BACK UP IN UM, ALSO OCTOBER 10TH IS INDIGENOUS PEOPLE'S DAY.

I WOULD LIKE TO GET STUDENTS ON BOARD TO WRITE UP A INDIGENOUS PEOPLE'S DAY PROCLAMATION FOR THE BOARD HERE AT EDMONDS SCHOOL DISTRICT.

AND THEN ALSO IN OCTOBER, WE'RE GOING TO HAVE OUR IPC ELECTIONS AND THEN NATIVE AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH.

IS THAT OKAY, SO WE'RE DONE.

THAT WAS A LOT. YEAH, FOR BEING A MENTOR.

EVERY DAY WE WOULD SIT DOWN AND DO HAVE ONE ON ONE, OR WE WOULD TALK ABOUT WHAT? HOW WE'RE BOTH NEW AT THIS AND HOW ARE WE GOING TO MAKE SYSTEMS WHEN WE DON'T EVEN HAVE ANY SYSTEMS AT ALL.

SO YOU KNOW HER AND I'M DOING TITLE THREE, TITLE SIX AND ALL SORTS OF SYSTEMS. SO I WANT TO PERSONALLY THANK MARY FOR HELPING ME WITH THAT.

ALSO, PAULA MALONE WITH HER TECHNICAL SUPPORT AND HER TECH SAVVY THINGS.

I REALLY APPRECIATE HER TAKING THE TIME OUT OF HER BUSY SCHEDULE TO TEACH ME THINGS LIKE SCHOOL MESSENGERS AND LITTLE THINGS LIKE THAT.

ALSO, DR. VERGARA FOR HIS WEEKLY MEETINGS ON WEDNESDAYS AND DOING OUR CHECK INS, AND I THINK THAT'S IT. I JUST WANT TO THANK THE BOARD HERE FOR LETTING US TAKING THE TIME TO LISTEN TO WHAT NATIVE ED IS DOING FOR HIM IN SCHOOL DISTRICT. THANK YOU.

AND ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS FROM THE BOARD? I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR THAT WONDERFUL PRESENTATION.

I WAS REALLY EXCITED TO HEAR WHAT CHANGES HAD BEEN HAPPENING BECAUSE I KNEW THAT WITH THE POW WOW AND THAT INCREDIBLE PRESENTATION THAT OF MURDERED AND MISSING INDIGENOUS WOMEN THAT YOUR STUDENT HAD FACILITATED, THAT WAS NEAR MY HOUSE.

AND IT WAS JUST A LOVELY, VERY LOVELY.

AND I ALSO REALLY APPRECIATE BRINGING INTO THE ASPECT OF INDIAN EDUCATION HEALING, BECAUSE AS WE DO LEARN MORE ABOUT THE IMPACTS OF THE HISTORICAL IMPACTS OF TRAUMA, INTERGENERATIONAL IMPACTS OF TRAUMA, I THINK IT'S IMPORTANT THAT WE'RE ACKNOWLEDGING THAT WE NEED TO DO NOT ONLY EDUCATION OF OURSELVES, BUT RECOGNIZE THAT HISTORICAL TRAUMA IS, IN FACT MORE IMPACTFUL THAN MANY MAY REALIZE ON THAT.

AND IT'S JUST SO EXCITING TO HEAR ALL OF THE WORK YOU'RE DOING.

I JUST CAN'T WAIT TO FIND OUT WHEN THE DATE OF THE NATIVE YOUTH CONFERENCE IS AT EDMONDS COLLEGE, AND SO APPRECIATE ALL THE WORK YOU'VE BEEN DOING AND TO STICK WITH US AND ON AN EVENING LIKE THIS TOO.

SO THANK YOU SO MUCH.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR TIME AND FOR LETTING US SHARE WHAT WE'VE BEEN WORKING ON.

I'M SORRY. WAIT, WAIT.

COME BACK. ONE QUESTION.

ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS COMPREHENSIVE PRESENTATION.

I DID HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT THE.

IS IT 506 FORMS? YEAH. WHAT KINDS OF OBSTACLES ARE WE SEEING THAT PREVENT US FROM GETTING ALL THOSE FORMS IN? THAT'S A GREAT QUESTION.

WE'RE SEEING OBSTACLES WITH FAMILIES NOT WANTING TO NECESSARILY REGISTER BECAUSE THERE IS A MISTRUST IN THE GOVERNMENT.

AND SO WHETHER THEY DON'T WANT TO REGISTER TO ACTUALLY HAVE A CARD THAT IDENTIFIES THEM AS NATIVE OR WHETHER THEY JUST DON'T WANT TO REGISTER WITH THE DISTRICT, WE DO SEE THAT AS AN ISSUE.

WE ALSO HAVE SEEN THAT THERE ARE FAMILIES THAT DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO THEIR REGISTRATION, BUT LUCKILY WE HAVE.

[00:45:08]

KAREN AND KAREN'S BEEN REALLY GREAT ABOUT WALKING THROUGH THE PROCESS WITH EACH FAMILY THAT REGISTERS AND FILLS OUT A FORM AND IF THEY DON'T HAVE THE PROPER ID WORKING THROUGH THAT WITH THEM.

SO WE DO HAVE SUPPORT FOR THAT PIECE.

BUT REALLY AND THEN ALSO THAT'S WHY WE'RE ADDING IT TO THE PACKET.

THERE JUST ISN'T THE INFORMATION OUT THERE.

PEOPLE AREN'T SEEING IT READILY TO SAY, OH, THERE ARE BENEFITS.

AND SO MAKING THAT MORE WELL KNOWN AND MAKING THAT SOMETHING THAT CAN HAPPEN ROUTINELY IS THE REASON WHY WE'RE WORKING TO PUT IT IN THE REGISTRATION PACKET, BOTH PHYSICALLY AND ONLINE.

I ALSO WANT TO OH, I ALSO WANT TO SHARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF OF WHAT OF THE SYSTEM IS THAT THOSE 506 FORMS ARE FOR FEDERAL ONLY.

SO YOU HAVE TO HAVE A FEDERAL ID CARD FROM YOUR TRIBE, FROM THE TRIBES.

AND WITHIN THOSE FEDERAL IDS, SOMETIMES THEY DON'T ENROLL FAMILIES OR STUDENTS WITHIN A YEAR.

MAYBE THEIR ENROLLMENT DEPARTMENT ONLY LOOKS AT THEIR FOR A YEAR.

ALSO, WE HAVE CANADIAN CANADIAN FIRST NATIONS TRIBAL MEMBERS WHO DON'T GET FEDERAL FUNDING, TOO, AS WELL.

WE ALSO HAVE YEAH, WE WE ALSO HAVE IN WASHINGTON STATE, THERE'S NOT ANY STATE TRIBES.

BUT WE DO HAVE LIKE FROM CALIFORNIA, THEY DO HAVE STATE TRIBES.

SO, LIKE SO WE HAVE NON FEDERALLY RECOGNIZED TRIBAL MEMBERS SUCH AS THE DUWAMISH TRIBES, FOR INSTANCE.

SO THE PROBLEM IS, IS THAT LIKE SHE SAID, THE FAMILIES SAY THE FORM IS EASY, BUT IF THEY DON'T HAVE THEIR TRIBAL CARD, THEY DON'T.

IT'S TOO MUCH OF A HASSLE FOR THEM TO GET ONE AND IT'S TOO MUCH OF A HASSLE TO EVEN WAIT FOR A YEAR TO GET THEIR CITIZENSHIP. AND SO, HOWEVER, MARY AND I HAVE MADE A COMMITMENT TO ALL OF THE NATIVE STUDENTS, WHETHER THEY WERE FEDERALLY RECOGNIZED OR NOT, WHETHER THEY'RE FROM CANADA, WHETHER THEY ARE NOT FEDERALLY RECOGNIZED.

WE STILL SERVE THEM.

THEY COME TO OUR EVENTS AND WE SERVE THEM.

LIKE WITH THE TITLE THREE, LIKE WE SHOWED YOU BEFORE, THERE WERE SIX THAT WERE NOT ON THERE, THAT ARE NOT ON OUR 506 FORMS. SO IT'S A WORK IN PROGRESS.

THIS ISN'T NEW. THIS IS ALL OVER ALL OVER UNITED STATES.

OH, YEAH.

I JUST WANTED TO MENTION ON YOUR SPRUCE ELEMENTARY TOTEM POLE DEDICATION.

SOME OF THE BOARD AND A LOT OF THE STAFF ON MONDAY HAD A TOUR OF SPRUCE IN ITS CURRENT CONDITION, WHICH IS VERY CLOSE TO BEING OPEN.

AND I WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT EMILY MOORE, THE PRINCIPAL, MADE A REALLY HUGE POINT OF SHOWING US PRECISELY IN THE COMMONS AREA, THE SECTION OF THE WALL, WHICH IS A LITTLE UNFINISHED SECTION THAT IS BEING PREPARED, ESPECIALLY FOR THAT TOTEM POLE.

AND SO THEY'RE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THE DEDICATION.

AND SHE ALSO SAID SHE THOUGHT THAT ORIGINAL ARTIST OF THE POLE WAS GOING TO BE PRESENT THERE AT THE DEDICATION TO YOUR DAD AND YOUR DAD.

YEAH, I DID CATCH THAT.

YEAH, THAT IS SO, SO GREAT.

ANYWAYS, THEY'RE VERY EXCITED ABOUT THAT BEING PART OF THEIR CONTINUING PART OF THEIR SCHOOL.

THANKS. THANK YOU.

SO I'D LIKE TO ADD MY THANKS.

THIS WAS A VERY INFORMATIVE PRESENTATION AND I WANT TO MAKE A SPECIAL SORT OF FOCUS THAT I THINK THE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT THAT YOU TALKED ABOUT FOR OUR STAFF IS REALLY IMPORTANT, JUST AS PART OF OUR OVERALL GOAL, TO MAKE SURE ALL OUR STUDENTS UNDERSTAND THE HISTORY FOR ALL OF THE BACKGROUNDS OF ALL OF OUR STUDENTS IN TERMS OF THE CULTURE, THE HISTORY IMPACTS ON WHAT'S HAPPENED OVER TIME.

SO I JUST WANT TO SAY I THINK THAT'S REALLY IMPORTANT, BUT I CAN CERTAINLY SEE OBSTACLES TO THAT BECAUSE WE'RE TALKING ABOUT OUR NATIVE STUDENTS ARE INTERSPERSED ACROSS ALL OUR CLASSROOMS, WHICH MEANS WE WOULD NEED TO REACH ALL OUR TEACHERS REALLY.

AND GETTING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT TO ALL OUR TEACHERS REQUIRES TIME AND WHICH MEANS MONEY IN TERMS OF

[00:50:02]

THE LIMITED AMOUNT OF TIME WE HAVE FOR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR ALL OUR STAFF.

BUT I THINK THE EXTENT TO WHICH YOU CAN PROVIDE RESOURCES FOR TEACHERS SO IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE TIME IN PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT NECESSARILY, BUT RESOURCES, VIDEOS, ANY WAYS THAT YOU'RE ABLE TO HELP THEM TO DO A BETTER AND MORE ACCURATE JOB OF THAT, I THINK IS REALLY IMPORTANT. THANK YOU.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

WE CAN GO NOW? THANK YOU SO MUCH.

YEAH. YEAH. NEXT ON THE AGENDA IS NEW BUSINESS UNDER 15.

SO ITEM 15.1 IS APPROVING THE AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE EDMONDS SCHOOL DISTRICT AND THE FOUNDATION FOR THE EDMOND SCHOOL DISTRICT.

DO I HEAR A MOTION TO APPROVE? MOVE TO APPROVE? DO I HEAR SECOND? SECOND.

ANY DISCUSSION? I'D LIKE TO SAY A BIG SHOUT OUT.

AND THANK YOU TO DEB, BRANDI AND HER STAFF FOR ALL OF THE DEDICATED WORK THAT THEY DO FOR BRINGING RESOURCES, ACTIVITIES, SUPPORT, ALL KINDS OF SCHOLARSHIPS, GRANTS FOR TEACHERS, AND JUST CONTINUING TO HELP THE DISTRICT IN REACHING OUR GOALS IN WAYS THAT WE'RE NOT ABLE TO NECESSARILY FUND IT.

BUT THEY'RE ABLE TO GET FUNDS THROUGH THE WAY THAT A FOUNDATION IS ABLE TO DO IT.

SO WE JUST REALLY WANT TO UNDERSCORE THE VALUE AND IMPORTANCE OF THE FOUNDATION TO THE DISTRICT AND APPRECIATE THEIR WORK.

SO THAT BEING SAID, LET'S CALL FOR A ROLL CALL VOTE.

AND WITH THAT, THE AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE DISTRICT AND THE FOUNDATION IS APPROVED.

ITEM 15.2 IS A SINGLE READING TO APPROVE THE INTERAGENCY AGREEMENT WITH THE COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTERS FOR SCHOOL BASED HEALTH CENTERS.

AS MARTA TALKED ABOUT IN HER REPORT, DO I HEAR A MOTION AND A SECOND? SO MOVE? SECOND.

THANK YOU. I'VE HEARD A MOTION TO APPROVE AND A SECOND FOR APPROVING THIS INTERAGENCY AGREEMENT WITH THE COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTERS FOR SCHOOL BASED HEALTH CENTERS.

IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION? I WOULD JUST LIKE TO SAY THAT I'M I'M THRILLED THAT WE'RE DOING THIS.

AND I THINK THAT IT WILL BENEFIT US EVEN WHEN WE THINK OF IT'S NOT IT'S NOT JUST A PASSION PROJECT.

THIS IS JUST DOLLARS AND CENTS.

I MEAN, TO ENABLE OUR KIDS TO COME TO SCHOOL AND HAVE HEALTHY TEETH AND HEALTH AND OVERCOME BE SUPPORTED. AND IF THEY HAVE ASTHMA OR MANY OF THE COMMON DISEASES THAT THEY'RE STRUGGLING WITH, I JUST I CAN'T IMAGINE THAT WE COULD HESITATE ON THIS AT ALL.

I JUST THINK IT'S A WONDERFUL THING FOR OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT, AND IT'S GOING TO BE INCREDIBLE FOR OUR KIDS AND FOR OUR TEACHERS AND STAFF.

IT WILL RELIEVE SOME OF THE ISSUES THAT WE HAVE SURROUNDING THESE UNNECESSARY OVERSIGHT.

SO YAY, YAY.

AGREED. ANY OTHER COMMENTS ON THIS? JUST REALLY EXCITED TO GET THIS PASSED.

I JUST APPRECIATE THE WAY IT'S WRITTEN AND IT REALLY EMPHASIZES THE COOPERATIVE NATURE BETWEEN THE DISTRICT AND THE FOUNDATION AND AND HOW WE'VE JUST WORKED TOGETHER SO WELL TO, TO COOPERATE AND IN DEFINING NEEDS AND, AND GETTING SUPPORT FROM THEM.

SO VERY WELL WRITTEN.

THANK YOU. I'LL CALL FOR A ROLL CALL VOTE.

AND THE INTERAGENCY AGREEMENT WITH THE COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTERS FOR SCHOOL BASED HEALTH CENTERS IS APPROVED.

NEXT IS ITEM 15.3, WHICH IS A SINGLE READING TO APPROVE RESOLUTION 2211 FOR AUTHORIZED AGENTS FOR OSPI CONSTRUCTION GRANTS PROCESS.

DO I HEAR A MOTION TO APPROVE? AND A SECOND. SO MOVED.

SECOND, I'VE HEARD A MOTION TO APPROVE.

AND A SECOND, IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION? HEARING NONE. I'LL CALL FOR A ROLL CALL VOTE.

PASSES. NEXT IS ITEM 15.4, WHICH IS A SINGLE READING TO APPROVE THE PURCHASE OF REPLACEMENT BUSSES.

DO I HEAR A MOTION TO APPROVE? AND A SECOND. SO MOVED.

SECOND.

[00:55:02]

I'VE HEARD A MOTION TO APPROVE AND A SECOND FOR APPROVING THE PURCHASE OF REPLACEMENT BUSSES.

IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION? I JUST HAD ONE QUESTION IS NOT SPECIFICALLY TO THESE BUSSES, BUT DO WE HAVE ANY IDEA WHEN WE ARE GOING TO GET OUR BUS BARN BACK FROM SOUND TRANSIT? GOOD QUESTION.

EVER. YEAH, THAT'S THE QUESTION.

YEAH. YEAH. IT'S FUNNY BECAUSE GREG AND I WERE JUST TALKING ABOUT THAT.

SO I KNOW OUR PROJECT MANAGER, NICK CHOW, HAS BEEN IN CLOSE CONTACT WITH REBUILDING THE PARKING LOT.

[13. REPORTS-7:45 pm]

SO I'M GOING TO GET YOU A BETTER ESTIMATE.

I'M HOPING WITHIN THE NEXT SIX MONTHS WHEN? WITHIN THE NEXT SIX MONTHS.

BUT I NEED TO DOUBLE CHECK THAT NUMBER.

THANK YOU. AND I APPRECIATED IN THE BACKGROUND INFORMATION THAT WHILE THE DISTRICT ISN'T READY YET IN TERMS OF THE INFRASTRUCTURE FOR ELECTRIC BUSSES AND THAT THOSE WITH WHEELCHAIRS, WHICH MANY OF THESE ARE, AREN'T EVEN AVAILABLE YET, THAT WE'RE GOING TO CONTINUE TO RESEARCH AND HAVE AS A FRONT BURNER ITEM WHEN IT'S POSSIBLE TO START PUTTING TOGETHER THAT INFRASTRUCTURE AND BEING ABLE TO PURCHASE ELECTRIC BUSSES.

ANY OTHER DISCUSSION IN THIS ITEM? ALL THAT BEING SAID, I'LL CALL FOR A ROLL CALL VOTE.

ITEM 15.4.

NEXT IS ITEM 15.5, A SINGLE READING TO APPROVE RESOLUTION 2207, WHICH IS ACCEPTANCE OF THE PUBLIC WORKS CONTRACT FOR THE BRIER TERRACE MIDDLE SCHOOL ROOF REPLACEMENT.

DO I HEAR A MOTION TO APPROVE AND A SECOND? I MOVE TO APPROVE? SECOND, I'VE HEARD A MOTION TO APPROVE AND A SECOND FOR APPROVING RESOLUTION 2207.

IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION? HAVE GOTTEN ROOFS. I'LL CALL FOR A ROLL CALL VOTE.

2207 TO APPROVE THE PUBLIC WORKS CONTRACT FOR THE BRIER TERRACE MIDDLE SCHOOL ROOF REPLACEMENT IS APPROVED, AND ITEM 15.6 IS A SINGLE READING TO APPROVE RESOLUTION 2206, WHICH IS ACCEPTANCE OF THE PUBLIC WORKS CONTRACT FOR THE HAZELWOOD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ROOF REPLACEMENT.

DO I HEAR A MOTION TO APPROVE AND A SECOND SO MOVED.

THE SECOND I'VE HEARD A MOTION TO APPROVE.

AND A SECOND. IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION? HEARING NONE. I'LL CALL FOR A ROLL CALL VOTE.

AND RESOLUTION 2206 PASSES AS APPROVED.

DO WE HAVE ANY ADDITIONAL NEW REQUESTS FOR PUBLIC COMMENTS? OK, WHICH MEANS IT BRINGS US TO OUR BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS TIME AND I USUALLY TURN TO THE STUDENTS AND LIKE, I'M SO MISSING THEM AND I CAN'T WAIT TILL WE GET OUR STUDENTS IN THE FALL. SO.

DIRECTOR NOBLE YEAH, I JUST HAVE TWO THINGS.

FIRST OF ALL, LAST WEEK WAS GRADUATIONS.

AND, YOU KNOW, THIS THIS IS REALLY THE CULMINATION.

THIS IS WHAT THE SCHOOL DISTRICT IS ALL ABOUT, IS GETTING KIDS ACROSS THAT LINE TO AND BEING PREPARED FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIVES.

AND IT'S JUST EXCITING TO BE THERE TO SEE THESE KIDS.

THEY'RE SO EXCITED OVER THEIR ACCOMPLISHMENTS.

AND IT'S I'M PROUD OF THE WHOLE 1600 YOU SAID KIDS THAT ARE THAT WE MANAGED TO GRADUATE THIS YEAR.

IT'S REALLY EXCITING AND IT'S FUN TO BE PART OF IT.

AND THE SECOND THING IS, THANK YOU FOR THE PROJECT, PEOPLE, FOR GIVING US A TOUR OF SPRUCE ELEMENTARY YESTERDAY.

IT'S REALLY A COOL SCHOOL.

WE DID IT IN TWO PHASES BECAUSE WE DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH MONEY FROM THE FIRST BOND TO DO THE WHOLE THING.

AND THEN WE PASSED A LEVY WHICH GAVE US ENOUGH MONEY TO DO PHASE TWO.

PHASE TWO IS A CLASSROOM UNIT WITH 22 CLASSROOMS. IT'S 28 CLASSROOMS, THE LARGEST SCHOOL, ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN OUR DISTRICT, AND WHICH IS REALLY GOOD BECAUSE WE HAVE AN AWFUL LOT OF KIDS AROUND SPRUCE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.

SO IT'S A GOOD PLACE TO HAVE EXCESS CLASSROOMS. AND IT JUST WHEN IT OPENS IN SEPTEMBER, I HOPE YOU GUYS CAN GO BY AND SEE IT BECAUSE IT'S A BEAUTIFUL SCHOOL AND IT'S A FUNCTIONAL SCHOOL,

[01:00:06]

AND I THINK YOU'D BE VERY PROUD OF IT.

SO THAT'S ALL I HAVE TO SAY.

DIRECTOR CHASE THANK YOU.

DIRECTOR KATIMS. GARY, IT WAS FUN TO DO ALL THE GRADUATIONS AND SEE ALL THOSE CAPS FLY.

I ALWAYS APPRECIATE BEING ABLE TO, FOR THE FIRST TIME IN A COUPLE OF YEARS, GO TO AN ACTUAL GRADUATION.

I MISSED ALL THE COVID ONES, AND SO FOR ME IT JUST FELT LIKE A REAL GOOD RECONNECTION WITH THE DISTRICT AND WHY WE'RE UP HERE AND THE WORK THAT WE DO.

AND I DO WANT TO THANK DR.

BALDERAS FOR HIS SERVICE AS THIS IS OUR LAST BOARD MEETING, BUT I DO KNOW THAT YOU'RE NOT GOING TO BE COMPLETELY ABSENT.

SO IF WE NEED TO CONSULT WITH OUR INCOMING SUPERINTENDENT, I'M SURE THAT WE'LL ALL BE ABLE TO COLLABORATE TOGETHER.

I'M SO EXCITED ABOUT THE SCHOOL BASED HEALTH CLINICS COMING IN, AND I DID GO TO THOSE COMMUNITY FORUMS ON THE ARPA FUND TO MAKE SURE THAT THE NEEDS OF OUR DISTRICT ON THOSE SCHOOL BASED HEALTH CLINICS WERE DEFINITELY ELEVATED.

I WAS ALSO VERY MOVED BY A LOT OF THE COMMENTS TODAY, NOT ONLY SHARING THE PASSION ON WHY THEIR SERVICE IN THE DISTRICT, BUT ALSO THE HEARTFELT PASSION OF FRIENDS WHO ARE NO LONGER WITH US.

SO THAT'S VERY APPRECIATED.

AND I'M SO SORRY, YOU KNOW, SOME OF THE.

I'M GOING TO MOVE ON NOW TO TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION, BECAUSE THIS IS ALSO, AS YOUR LEGISLATIVE REP, WE WERE JUST TALKING ABOUT INDIAN EDUCATION IN OUR DISTRICT AND HOW WE DO PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, AND THAT INCLUDES US AS A BOARD.

AND RATHER THAN ASKING OUR PRESENTERS TO BRING INFORMATION, I WOULD LIKE TO GIVE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO PRESENT OUR BOARDS OF INFORMATION WHERE WE CAN EDUCATE OURSELVES.

AND CONGRESS HAS INTRODUCED, INTENDED TO INTRODUCE LEGISLATION TO ESTABLISH A TRUTH AND HEALING COMMISSION ON INDIAN BOARDING SCHOOLS IN THE US.

AND THIS I'M GOING TO READ THIS THAT MAY BE CITED AS THE TRUTH AND HEALING COMMISSION ON INDIAN BOARDING SCHOOL POLICIES ACT, AND THE PURPOSES OF WHICH IS TO FORMALLY INVESTIGATE AND DOCUMENT FOR THE FIRST TIME IN HISTORY THE ATTEMPTED TERMINATION OF CULTURES AND LANGUAGES OF INDIGENOUS PEOPLES ASSIMILATION PRACTICES SUCH AS AND HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS THAT OCCURRED AGAINST AMERICAN INDIANS, ALASKA NATIVES, NATIVE HAWAIIANS THROUGH INDIAN BOARDING SCHOOL POLICIES IN FURTHERANCE OF THE MOTTO TO KILL THE INDIAN IN HIM AND SAVE THE MAN, AND TO FORMALLY INVESTIGATE AND DOCUMENT THE IMPACTS AND ONGOING EFFECTS OF HISTORICAL AND INTERGENERATIONAL TRAUMA IN NATIVE COMMUNITIES.

THIS LEGISLATION HAS BEEN INTRODUCED.

I WILL SHARE THE TEXT.

IT'S A TRUTH AND HEALING COMMISSION ON INDIAN BOARDING SCHOOLS INTRODUCED BY SENATOR ELIZABETH WARREN.

AND THAT'S ONE THING THAT WE'LL BE TRACKING AS WE MOVE FORWARD IN THE LEGISLATIVE REPORTS, ANOTHER PLACE FOR US TO GET INFORMATION. AS THE 2018 BROKEN PROMISES REPORT PUBLISHED BY THE UNITED STATES COMMISSION ON CIVIL RIGHTS ON FEDERAL INDIAN BOARDING SCHOOL POLICIES WHICH DIVIDED CULTURAL FAMILY STRUCTURES, DAMAGED INDIGENOUS IDENTITIES AND INFLICTED CHRONIC PSYCHOLOGICAL INJURY ON AMERICAN, INDIAN, ALASKAN, NATIVE AND NATIVE HAWAIIAN CHILDREN, FAMILIES AND COMMUNITIES.

THE REASON I BRING A LOT OF THIS UP RIGHT NOW IS BECAUSE AS WE'RE SEEING IN THE NEWS, AS IT COMES UP, MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE HORRORS OF THESE BOARDING SCHOOLS. I THINK IT IS IMPORTANT FOR US AS LEADERS TO BE REALLY MINDFUL OF THE IMPACTS IT'S HAVING ON NOT ONLY OUR STUDENTS, BUT THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY.

AND SO THAT IS SOMETHING THAT IS CURRENT IN CONGRESS RIGHT NOW.

ALSO MENTION THAT THIS WEEK IN THE EVERETT HERALD HAS HAD A HUGE EXPOSÉ ON INDIAN SCHOOLS.

IT'S REALLY SAD TO READ, BUT IT'S ALSO FASCINATING TO SEE HOW DAMAGING IT WAS TO THE INDIAN COMMUNITY TO REALLY VERY LARGE PROJECT THE HERALD PUT TOGETHER.

I THINK IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT THAT THIS INFORMATION HAS BEEN DAY LIGHTED AND AVAILABLE FOR FOR THE WHOLE ENTIRE PUBLIC TO HAVE A DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF THE HISTORY OF OUR COUNTRY. THERE'S A FEW OTHER POLICIES I'LL PUT ON THE BOARD AGENDA FOR US TO TAKE A LOOK AT AND I EMAILED THEM FOR.

THERE'S SOME OTHER THINGS WITH SOCIAL MEDIA AND HAVING POINTS OF CONTACT.

CONTACT A POLICY WHERE, FOR INSTANCE, TWITTER AND FACEBOOK NEED TO HAVE A LIAISON POINT OF CONTACT TO SCHOOLS.

[01:05:02]

THIS IS ON THEIR SIDE SO THAT IF THINGS COME UP, THERE IS A POINT OF CONTACT FOR SCHOOLS TO DO SOME REPORTING ON.

SO THAT'S SOME STUFF THAT I JUST PUT INTO YOUR INBOXES TONIGHT THAT WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT AS A BOARD.

I HELPED DRAFT IT AND THEN I FORGOT TO BRING IT TO THE BOARD THE LAST TIME.

SO SO WE'LL SEE IF YOU ALL LIKE IT.

AND THAT'S IT FOR RIGHT NOW.

THANK YOU DIRECTOR CHASE THAT WAS VERY INFORMATIVE.

DIRECTOR KILGORE.

THANK YOU SO MUCH.

THAT WAS VERY INFORMATIVE.

AND I JUST BRIEFLY WANT TO REFLECT AND ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THIS WAS A TOUGH YEAR.

IT WAS A JOYFUL YEAR.

I VISITED MANY SCHOOLS.

I DON'T WORK IN THEM EVERY DAY, BUT I SAW A LOT OF KIDS WHO WERE JUST JUST THRILLED TO BE IN THEIR CLASSROOMS AND THRILLED TO BE LEARNING AND WHO WERE TAKEN CARE OF BY THEIR STAFF, BY THEIR TEACHERS, THEIR PARAS, THEIR OTHER STAFF IN THE SCHOOLS.

WE ARE ALL WORKING ON BEHALF OF THE KIDS, AND I WANT TO JUST EXPRESS MY APPRECIATION.

I CAN'T TALK ABOUT DELIBERATIONS AT THE TABLE RIGHT NOW.

I DON'T YOU KNOW, THAT'S NOT SOMETHING WE CAN TALK ABOUT, BUT I CAN EXPRESS MY APPRECIATION AND MY RESPECT FOR THE WORK YOU DO.

I'VE HAD THREE KIDS GO THROUGH THIS DISTRICT, ONE STILL HERE.

TWO HAVE NEEDED SPECIAL SERVICES.

ONE THE LAST ONE STRUGGLED THROUGH THE PANDEMIC, ALONG WITH ALL THE OTHER KIDS.

AND I JUST CAN'T THANK YOU ENOUGH AS A PARENT, AS A BOARD MEMBER, AS A COMMUNITY MEMBER, AS A PERSON WHO BELIEVES SO MUCH IN THE MISSION OF PUBLIC EDUCATION.

I KNOW YOU.

THAT'S ALL I CAN SAY RIGHT NOW.

IT'S JUST TO EXPRESS MY APPRECIATION AND TO LET YOU KNOW THAT THAT I PERSONALLY AM YOUR ADVOCATE.

AND, YEAH, SO I DIDN'T GET TO ATTEND ALL THE GRADUATIONS BECAUSE I WAS BUSY, AS I'VE BEEN SAYING, WITH MY OWN SON'S GRADUATION. BUT I DID.

YOU KNOW, I JUST LOVE TO SEE THESE KIDS GO FORTH AND TAKE ON THE WORLD.

AND I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO HEARING ABOUT ALL THE GREAT THINGS THEY DO.

SO THANK YOU. HAPPY SUMMER.

THANK YOU, DIRECTOR KILGORE.

SO SINCE THE LAST BOARD MEETING, I'VE HAD SOME REALLY INTERESTING INTERACTIONS THAT ARE KID CENTERED, WHICH IS MY FAVORITE.

SO I WENT TO ONE COMPREHENSIVE HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION, BUT THEN I WENT TO THREE SMALL HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATIONS, WHICH I HAVEN'T DONE BEFORE.

I SAW SCRIBER LAKE, E-LEARNING AND THE VOICE PROGRAM, AND THEY WERE VERY HEARTWARMING AND IT WAS WONDERFUL TO SEE THOSE STUDENTS WHO SOME OF WHOM HAVE HAD A LOT OF CHALLENGES AND OBSTACLES, WHO HAVE SUCCEEDED AND GRADUATED.

AND MANY OF THEM ARE GOING ON TO THE MILITARY, COMMUNITY, COLLEGE TRADES, JUST A WHOLE VARIETY OF THINGS FOR YOUR UNIVERSITIES.

AND SO THAT WAS REALLY GREAT.

I WAS ALSO WE WERE INVITED TO GO TO HEAR A SMALL GROUP PRESENTATION OF STUDENTS AT MEADOWDALE HIGH IN A FRESHMAN HISTORY CLASS WHO HAD CHOSEN TO DO THEIR RESEARCH ON HOMEWORK.

HOMEWORK POLICIES.

AND I WENT AND I LISTENED TO THEM AND THEY WERE THIS IS FUTURE LEADERS WHO ARE ADVOCATING FOR SOMETHING THEY RESEARCHED, THEY THOUGHT WAS IMPORTANT, AND THEY WANTED US TO KNOW.

AND WE HAD A REALLY GOOD CONVERSATION ABOUT THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THAT AND GRADING PRACTICES, WHICH IS SOMETHING THAT WE WOULD LIKE TO HAVE CONVERSATIONS WITH.

AND THEY HAD DONE SOME REALLY GOOD RESEARCH.

SO I JUST WANT TO SAY THAT THAT WAS I REALLY APPRECIATED GETTING TO HEAR THEIR PRESENTATION AND BE PART OF AN AUTHENTIC AUDIENCE FOR THEM, WHICH IS SO IMPORTANT FOR KIDS. I HAD A VISIT, LOVELY VISIT TO LINDALE ELEMENTARY AND GOT TO DO THE SPRUCE TOURS, WHICH AGAIN WANT TO THANK OUR VOTERS FOR HELPING TO FUND THE FINISHING OF IT.

IT'S GOING TO BE BEAUTIFUL AND IT'S GOING TO OPEN ON TIME FOR THE FALL.

TO THOSE WHO'VE COME TO TALK ABOUT THEIR CONCERNS THAT RELATE TO BARGAINING, I WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU ALL UNDERSTAND THAT WE ARE NOT ALLOWED DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE DISTRICT AND ALL OF OUR ASSOCIATIONS HAVE AGREED TO CLOSE BARGAINING RULES.

SO BECAUSE OF THAT, WE'RE NOT ALLOWED TO TALK ABOUT BARGAINING IN PUBLIC.

HOWEVER, I DO WANT TO SAY WE VALUE ALL OF OUR EMPLOYEES CERTIFICATED AND CLASSIFIED AND CERTAINLY THE PARAS.

AND WE UNDERSTAND YOUR WORK IS HARD AND WE APPRECIATE RESPECT AND TOTALLY VALUE THE WORK THAT YOU BRING TO US.

[01:10:08]

THAT BEING SAID, WE CAN'T SAY ANYTHING ABOUT THE NEGOTIATIONS PER SE, BUT WE APPRECIATE THE PASSION THAT YOU BRING, THE DEDICATION THAT YOU BRING, AND THAT YOU COME FORWARD TO EXPRESS WHAT YOUR LIVES ARE LIKE, WHICH IS IMPORTANT FOR EVERYBODY TO HEAR.

I WOULD LIKE TO WISH DR.

BALDERAS WELL AND TO WELCOME DR.

MINER. I'D LIKE TO WISH EVERYBODY A GREAT SUMMER.

HOPEFULLY PEOPLE COME BACK REFRESHED IN THE FALL.

AND I JUST WANT TO SAY THAT ONE OF THE THINGS THAT THE FOUNDATION DOES, SINCE WE RENEWED OUR CONTRACT WITH GIVING THEM A PLACE HERE AND OUR VALUE IN THEM IS THAT THEY ARE SPONSORING AND FUNDING SUMMER MEALS.

AND SO EVERY THURSDAY I'M GOING TO BE AT COMMUNITY LIFE CENTER TO HELP VOLUNTEER WITH THAT PROGRAM.

SO IF YOU WANT TO COME AND TALK TO ME ONE ON ONE, COME BY DURING THE DAY, BRING YOUR KIDS SO THEY CAN HAVE A MEAL, FREE MEAL.

ALL KIDS FROM AGES 1 TO 18, I THINK, AND DO SOME PHYSICAL ACTIVITY WITH THE 60 PEOPLE.

SO I HOPE TO SEE YOU THIS SUMMER.

I WISH EVERYBODY A GREAT SUMMER AND WISH DR.

BALDERAS VERY WELL AND I TURN IT OVER TO YOU.

JUST WANT TO THANK THE BOARD AGAIN AND THANK FOR THE STAFF FOR ALL THEIR WORK AND I HOPE YOU GET SOME REST THIS SUMMER AS WELL AND LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING ALL THE GREAT WORK AHEAD AND LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING SPRUCE AND ALSO OAK HEIGHTS BEING FULLY COMPLETED.

SO THANK YOU. AND I'D ALSO LIKE TO THANK ERIN.

SO ERIN IS TAKING OVER FOR ALISON IN THAT POSITION, WHICH IS A TOUGH POSITION BECAUSE IT SUPPORTS US AS WELL AS THE SUPERINTENDENT.

AND WE'RE NOT AN EASY GROUP OF PEOPLE.

WE KNOW THAT, WE NEED A LOT OF HELP.

SO THIS WAS YOUR FIRST FORAY INTO IT.

YOU'VE DONE A GREAT JOB AND WE JUST WANT TO TELL YOU THAT WE'RE WELCOMING YOU AND REALLY APPRECIATE EVERYTHING THAT YOU DO.

WE ALSO WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE FRANK FROM THE TECHNOLOGY OFFICE, WHO IS HERE NOW AT EVERY MEETING HELPING US AND KEEPING HIS EYE ON ALL THE TECHNOLOGY AND KEEPING US DOING WELL. THE LAST ITEM IS, ARE THERE ANY OTHER ITEMS FOR CONSIDERATION FOR FUTURE BOARD MEETINGS? PROBABLY, BUT CAN'T THINK RIGHT THIS SECOND.

WELL, I HAD WRITTEN DOWN A FEW OK, SO I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE WE GET THEM DOCUMENTED.

ONE IS WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE DO HAVE A STUDY SESSION PUT ON THE DOCKET FOR DISCUSSING THE POLICY REGARDING THE PROCEDURES FOR COMPLAINTS, FOR STAFF COMPLAINTS, SOMETHING THAT WE'VE TALKED ABOUT.

BUT I WANT TO MAKE SURE ALSO IS THEIRS.

WE'D LIKE TO HAVE A STUDY SESSION WITH DR.

MINER ON THE STRATEGIC PLAN, AND WE'D LIKE TO SEE THE METRICS AND TIMELINES THAT I KNOW THE CABINET'S BEEN WORKING ON.

AND IT WOULD GIVE US A GREAT OPPORTUNITY, I THINK, TO TO MAKE SURE THAT THE TRANSITION AND THE STRATEGIC PLAN WORK IS, IS NOW A TEAM EFFORT WITH WITH DR.

MINER. AND THEN I ALSO NOTICED, EVEN THOUGH WE HAD SAID WE WERE GOING TO HAVE A LEGISLATIVE UPDATE ON THAT WASN'T ON HERE AND.

OKAY, SO MAYBE SO ERIN IF YOU JUST KEEP ON THE AGENDA AND THAT'S MY FAULT BECAUSE I LOOK AT THE AGENDA AND BUT I'LL BRING IT UP.

YEAH, I KNOW YOU WILL, BUT IT'S NICE FOR YOU TO HAVE THE TIME AND THEN YOU CAN HAVE YOUR BOARD COMMENTS FOR OTHER THINGS.

SO DID THAT SPARK ANY OTHER IDEAS? ARE WE GOOD? AND WE ALREADY KNOW OUR SAFETY.

WE ARE WE. AND ALSO, JUST FOR THE PUBLIC TO KNOW, WE PLAN A STUDY SESSION ON SAFETY AND WHAT'S UNDERWAY, WHAT IS CURRENTLY BEING DONE, WHAT'S PLANNED TO BE DONE FOR SAFETY FOR OUR KIDS, SAFETY AND WELLNESS.

AND WE ALSO PLAN IN THE FALL TO HAVE A COMMUNITY FORUM.

AGAIN, WE HAD ONE NOT TOO LONG AGO, BUT AGAIN, TO GIVE THE PUBLIC A CHANCE TO INTERACT WITH OUR STAFF AS WELL AS HOPEFULLY THE LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT WHO CAME TO THE OTHER ONE AND WERE WONDERFUL IN TERMS OF REALLY EXPLAINING THEIR RELATIONSHIP AND ALL THE WORK THAT THEY DO TO HELP US TO EXPLAIN THAT TO THE PUBLIC AS WELL.

SO THOSE ARE OTHER THINGS THAT ARE ON THE CALENDAR FOR THE FUTURE, NEAR FUTURE.

WE DON'T TAKE QUESTIONS.

I'M SORRY, YOU CAN ASK ME AFTERWARD AND THAT'D BE GREAT.

BUT THE PROCEDURE IS WE DON'T TAKE QUESTIONS FROM THE AUDIENCE.

SORRY, BUT TALK TO ME AFTERWARD.

SO JUST TO LET EVERYBODY KNOW THAT THAT'S ON THE DOCKET AND WE'LL HAVE OUR NEXT MEETING IN TWO WEEKS, THIS MEETING IS ADJOURNED.
