[00:00:01] OK. IT'S 6:30. SO LET'S GET STARTED. [1. CALL TO ORDER-6:30 pm] THE THIS REGULAR SCHOOL BOARD MEETING OF THE EDMONDS SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR JANUARY TWENTY FIFTH TWENTY TWENTY TWO IS NOW CALLED TO ORDER. I SEE ALL OF OUR BOARD MEMBERS, ALL OF MY FOUR COLLEAGUES HERE. IT'S GOOD TO SEE YOU. I'M GOING TO ASK DR. BALDERAS TO PLEASE SHARE WITH US THE LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT. [3. LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT-6:33 pm] THANK YOU. WE ACKNOWLEDGE THE ORIGINAL INHABITANTS OF THIS PLACE, THE SNOHOMISH PEOPLE AND THEIR SUCCESSORS, THE TULALIP TRIBES, WHO SINCE TIME IMMEMORIAL HAVE TAKEN CARE OF, HUNTED, FISHED AND GATHERED ON THESE LANDS. WE RESPECT THEIR SOVEREIGNTY, THE RIGHT TO SELF-DETERMINATION, AND WE HONOR THEIR SACRED SPECIAL CONNECTION WITH THE LAND AND WATER BY ACKNOWLEDGING THESE HOMELANDS. WE COMMIT TO WORKING WITH TRIBAL NATIONS TO FURTHER THE EDUCATION AIMS THEY HAVE IDENTIFIED IN OUR CLASSROOMS AND IN OUR SCHOOLS. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. AND NOW PLEASE JOIN ME IN SAYING THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE. [4. FLAG SALUTE-6:35 pm] NEXT ON THE AGENDA IS THE APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA FOR TONIGHT. [5. APPROVAL OF AGENDA-6:37 pm] DO I HEAR A MOTION TO APPROVE? MOVE TO APPROVE. SECOND. THANK YOU, IT'S BEEN MOVED AND SECONDED TO APPROVE THE AGENDA FOR TONIGHT'S MEETING. IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION? HEARING NONE, I'LL CALL FOR A VOTE, EVERYBODY WHO IS IN FAVOR OF THE AGENDA FOR TONIGHT, PLEASE ACKNOWLEDGE BY SAYING AYE. AYE. ANYBODY OPPOSED SAY NAY. ANY ABSTENTIONS? AND THE MOTION PASSES THE AGENDA FOR TONIGHT IS APPROVED. [6. SUPERINTENDENT REPORT-7:00 pm] NEXT, WE'RE GOING TO ASK DR. BALDERAS TO GIVE A REPORT OF IMPORTANT ISSUES GOING ON. AND THANK YOU, PRESIDENT KATIMS. I KNOW THAT WE DO HAVE A REPORT A LITTLE BIT LATER WITH STAFF ON THE STATUS OF THE DISTRICT, AND I'LL JUST OPEN UP MY MY MY REMARKS REALLY QUICKLY BY APPRECIATION OF THE SUPPORT FROM STAFF. IT'S BEEN A HEAVY LIFT SINCE WE CAME BACK FROM THE WINTER BREAK. WE HAVE OMICRON SPIKING ACROSS THE U.S. AND WASHINGTON STATE AND THE EDMONDS SCHOOL DISTRICT BEING NO DIFFERENT. WE SAW A TREMENDOUS SPIKE IN TERMS OF THE COVID CASES ON OUR CAMPUSES AMONG STAFF, PARENTS AND ALSO THE COMMUNITY WE WENT UP, I THINK WHEN WE LEFT, WE WERE LIKE 500 CASES PER 100000. THEN IT WENT TO A THOUSAND AND TWO THOUSAND AND THREE THOUSAND. SO BUT WE'VE SEEN BETTER ATTENDANCE THIS WEEK AS WE'VE WORKED TO MEET DAILY MULTIPLE TIMES AS A STAFF TO LOOK AT ATTENDANCE AND SO FORTH. SO WE'VE SEEN BETTER ATTENDANCE SO FAR THIS WEEK, SO WE'RE HOPING THAT TREND CONTINUES TALKING TO MY SUPERINTENDING COLLEAGUES FROM AROUND THE REGION. THEY'RE SEEING THE SAME THING ON THEIR CAMP IN THEIR DISTRICTS. SO WE'RE HOPING THAT THE SPIKE HAD SUBSIDED AND WE'RE HEADING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION AND WE'LL CONTINUE TO MOVE FORWARD. AGAIN, IT'S NOT BEEN AN EASY TWO YEARS FOR KIDS, STAFF AND COMMUNITY AND BUT THEY HAVE BEEN SO RESILIENT. AND I JUST WANT I WANT TO THANK THE STAFF THAT HAVE SUPPORTED THE DISTRICT OFFICE STAFF THAT HAVE BEEN ON CALL TO FILL CLASSROOMS SUBSTITUTE AS PRINCIPALS. I HAVE WE HAVE STAFF GOING OUT EVERY DAY FROM THE DISTRICT OFFICE SUPPORTING OUR CAMPUSES TO HELP SUPPORT BECAUSE AGAIN, WE STILL LACK PEER EDUCATORS AND WE STILL LACK TEACHING STAFF AND OTHER SUPPORT STAFF, INCLUDING DRIVERS, NUTRITION STAFF, THAT WE'VE TAKEN A HIT TALKING TO OUR FACILITIES DIRECTOR THAT ALSO INCLUDES CUSTODIAL STAFF. AND AGAIN, ALL OFFICE STAFF. BUT WE'VE STEPPED UP, AND THAT'S TEAM EDMONDS. ONE THING I WANT TO REALLY THANK, IT'S A TEAM APPROACH THAT EVERYBODY'S HANDLING THIS SITUATION IN A TEAM EFFORT BECAUSE WE KNOW IT'S ALL HANDS ON DECK. I KNOW IT'S AN OVERUSED KIND OF PHRASE, BUT TRULY IT IS. EVERYBODY HAS STEPPED UP TO REALLY GO INTO POSITIONS WHEN ASKED, AND THAT'S BEEN GREATLY APPRECIATED BECAUSE THE NUMBER ONE GOAL IS TO REALLY DO THE BEST WE CAN FOR OUR KIDS. AND WE'VE DONE THAT, WE'VE DONE THAT, AND WE'VE HAD TO CLOSE SOME SCHOOLS AND YOU'LL HEAR SOME OF THAT LATER ON DURING OUR REPORT, BUT WE'VE BEEN AGAIN USING A VARIETY OF VARIABLES TO BE ABLE TO DO THAT. WE'VE HAD TO SHUT DOWN A FEW SCHOOLS IN CLASSROOMS. BUT AGAIN, THOSE ARE NOT LONG BECAUSE THE CURRENT VARIANT, IT COMES QUICK AND IT LEAVES [00:05:02] FAST. SO THE GUIDANCE FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH HAS CHANGED. AND AGAIN, THE THE GREAT TEAM THAT WE HAVE IN EDMONDS HERE WILL REPORT A LITTLE BIT LATER ON ON THAT AS WELL. BUT IT'S IT'S BEEN A TRANSITION AND JUST REALLY THANKFUL FOR ALL THE HEAVY LIFT THAT WE HAVE HAD THIS THIS TIME AROUND, AND I REALLY APPRECIATE THE BOARD FOR YOUR COMMITMENT AND WHEN TALKING TO MY COLLEAGUES FROM NOT JUST THE STATE OF WASHINGTON, BUT ACROSS THE COUNTRY. THIS IS A WE'RE IN DIFFERENT TIMES RIGHT NOW. WE'RE IN DIFFERENT TIMES ACROSS OUR COUNTRY. WE'RE IN DIFFERENT TIMES ACROSS OUR COUNTRY AND JUST WANT TO REALLY KUDOS TO OUR COMMUNITY. KUDOS TO OUR COMMUNITY WHO ELECTED YOU AS BOARD MEMBERS, BOARD DIRECTORS. TO ENSURE THAT WE'RE WE'RE STAYING ON THE PATH THAT IS BEST FOR OUR COMMUNITY, FOR OUR COMMUNITY, FOR OUR KIDS AND FOR OUR STAFF. BECAUSE I'LL TELL YOU RIGHT NOW IT DOESN'T HAPPEN EVERYWHERE. YOU HEAR THAT AS WELL AS BOARD DIRECTORS. SO JUST APPRECIATE YOUR COMMITMENT AND SUPPORT TOWARD OUR COMMUNITY AND TO OUR KIDS. AND AGAIN, THERE'LL BE A BETTER REPORT HERE. I DON'T KNOW WHAT I CAN SAY RIGHT NOW IN TERMS OF NUMBERS, AND MY STAFF HAS DONE A PHENOMENAL JOB WITH THAT REPORT. EVER SINCE WE STARTED LAST YEAR, THEY'LL PROVIDE MORE DETAILS IN TERMS OF WHERE WE SIT WITH THE COVID VARIANT RIGHT NOW. SO THANK YOU SO MUCH. AND AGAIN, TURN BACK TO YOU, PRESIDENT KATIMS. THANK YOU, DR. BALDERAS, PARTICULARLY FOR THOSE VERY POSITIVE COMMENTS TO KNOW HOW THINGS ARE DEFINITELY ON THE UPSWING AND IMPROVEMENT. THE NEXT THING ON THE AGENDA WILL BE THE APPROVAL OF MINUTES, WITH THE FIRST ONE BEING THE [7. APPROVAL OF MINUTES-7:05 pm] APPROVAL OF THE JANUARY 11TH STUDY SESSION MEETING MINUTES. DO I HEAR A MOTION TO APPROVE? MOTION TO APPROVE THE STUDY SESSION MINUTES. I'LL SECOND THAT. THANK YOU, I HEAR A MOTION TO APPROVE THE JANUARY 11TH 2022 STUDY SESSION MINUTES AND A SECOND. IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION? HEARING NONE, I'LL CALL FOR A VOTE. EVERYBODY IN FAVOR OF APPROVING THE MINUTES OF THE JANUARY 11TH, 2022 REGULAR STUDY SESSION. PLEASE INDICATE BY SAYING AYE. AYE. ALL THOSE AGAINST, NAY. ALL THOSE ABSTAINING. AND THE MOTION PASSES, NEXT WE HAVE APPROVAL OF THE JANUARY 11TH MINUTES FOR THE REGULAR BUSINESS MEETING FOR JANUARY 11TH, 2022. DO I HEAR A MOTION? I'LL MOVE TO APPROVE THOSE MINUTES. THANK YOU. SECOND, THANK YOU. SO IT'S BEEN MOVED TO APPROVE, AND THERE'S BEEN A SECOND FOR THE JANUARY 11, 2022 REGULAR BUSINESS MEETING MINUTES. IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION? HEARING NONE, I WILL CALL FOR A VOTE, ALL THOSE IN FAVOR INDICATE BY SAYING AYE. AYE. ALL THOSE OPPOSED SAY NAY. ANY ABSTENTIONS? AND THE MINUTES FOR THE JANUARY 11TH, 2022 REGULAR BUSINESS MEETING PASSES, THE NEXT IS [8. CONSENT AGENDA-7:10 pm] THE CONSENT AGENDA. IS THERE A MOTION TO APPROVE THE CONSENT AGENDA? SO MOVED. SECOND. OK, THANK YOU. IT'S BEEN MOVED AND SECONDED TO APPROVE THE CONSENT AGENDA. I'D LIKE TO DO A QUICK SUMMARY FOR THE PEOPLE WHO ARE ON THE CALL WHO MAY NOT HAVE QUICK ACCESS BECAUSE IT'S A VERY LONG CONSENT AGENDA, BUT THESE TEND TO BE ROUTINE ITEMS. THERE ARE 20 ITEMS ON THE CONSENT AGENDA. ONE IS PERSONNEL ACTIONS, 11 ARE AGREEMENTS BETWEEN THE DISTRICT AND VARIOUS OF OUR STAFF GROUPS ASSOCIATIONS ALL HAVING TO DO WITH COVID AGREEMENTS MOSTLY APPROVING FIVE DAYS LEAVE IF THEY NEED IT FOR COVID REASONS. THERE ARE SIX ITEMS THAT DEAL WITH KIDS GOING ON FIELD TRIPS, WHICH IS VERY POSITIVE THAT WE'RE BEING ABLE TO HOPEFULLY IN THE SPRING, SEND THEM ALL ON THE FIELD TRIPS AND THERE'S ONE THAT DEALS WITH BILLS AND VOUCHERS. SO IS THERE. WE HAVE MOVED AND SECONDED AND I'VE SUMMARIZED THE CONSENT AGENDA. SO IS THERE ANY OTHER DISCUSSION? HEARING NONE, I'LL CALL FOR A VOTE. ALL THOSE IN FAVOR OF APPROVING THE CONSENT AGENDA PLEASE INDICATE BY SAYING AYE. [00:10:02] AYE. ALL THOSE AGAINST VOTE NAY. ANY ABSTENTIONS? AND THE CONSENT AGENDA PASSES. NEXT ON OUR AGENDA, OUR PUBLIC COMMENTS, AND WE HAVE ONE PUBLIC COMMENT. [9. PUBLIC COMMENTS-7:15 pm] IF NASIM IS ON THE CALL. ALISON, I HAVEN'T CHECKED. I AM HERE. EXCELLENT. SO, NASSIM, I'LL LET YOU GO AHEAD AND INTRODUCE YOURSELF AND GIVE YOUR PUBLIC COMMENT. OK, THANK YOU VERY MUCH. HI, MY NAME IS [INAUDIBLE], AND I'M A MIDDLE SCHOOL TEACHER AT CPM. I'M HERE TO CONVEY MY DISMAY AT THE COMMUNICATION FROM THE DISTRICT, TO STUDENTS, PARENTS, GUARDIANS AND STAFF REGARDING THE DASHBOARD, THE INFORMATION ON IT AND THE WAY THE DATA IS BEING COLLECTED, SHARED, DELAYED, DISPLAYED AND USED DOES NOT SEEM TRANSPARENT OR IN GOOD FAITH. IT DOES NOT REFLECT THE ACTUAL POPULATION AFFECTED BY COVID AT ANY POINT IN TIME. I WONDER WHY WE ARE ONLY GIVING THE NUMBER OF DISTRICT REPORTED POSITIVE STUDENT CASES AND STUDENTS QUARANTINE BY DISTRICT AND THE TOTAL OUT DUE TO SICKNESS IN PERCENT. FOR ANYONE CURIOUS, THERE ARE 17 STUDENTS THAT ARE REPORTED BY THE DISTRICT TO HAVE COVID AND 44 IN QUARANTINE AND ABOUT EIGHT PERCENT THAT ARE OUT DUE TO SICKNESS. EIGHT PERCENT OF OUR TOTAL STUDENT POPULATION IS ONE THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY EIGHT STUDENTS OUT DUE TO ILLNESS. WHY DOES THE DASHBOARD SAY THAT THERE ARE FOUR STAFF MEMBERS QUARANTINING AND YET MY BUILDING DOESN'T HAVE OFFICE STAFF AND WE HAVE LOST SEVERAL TEACHERS AND WE'RE BEING ASKED TO TAKE OUR PLANNING PERIOD TO COVER FOR OTHER TEACHERS. THE DASHBOARD SIMPLY DOES NOT REFLECT THE STRAIN THAT COVID CURRENTLY HAS IN OUR BUILDINGS. I APPRECIATE THAT YOU COLLECT THE DISTRICT'S ATTENDANCE EVERY SINGLE DAY AT 11 FROM ALL BUILDINGS AND THAT YOU USE THAT TO DETERMINE WHETHER OR NOT A SCHOOL SHOULD GO REMOTE. BUT THOSE ARE COLD NUMBERS. WHY IS IT THAT HAVING ABOUT TWENTY FIVE PERCENT OF THE STUDENT POPULATION OUT FOR TWO WEEKS IN MY BUILDING NOT A CAUSE FOR CONCERN? IF EQUITY IS THE FOCUS OF THE DISTRICT AND THE REASON WHY WE OPEN SCHOOLS IN THE FIRST PLACE WAS TO CLOSE AN EDUCATIONAL GAP CAUSED BY REMOTE LEARNING. THEN WHAT ABOUT THE STUDENTS AT HOME NOW? I KNOW THAT THEY ARE ASKED TO CHECK CANVASS EVERY SINGLE DAY, BUT DOES THAT MEAN THAT US TEACHERS ARE REQUIRED TO POST OUR LECTURES TO [INAUDIBLE] TO USE PLANNING TIME TO CREATE NEW LESSONS THAT STUDENTS CAN HAVE ACCESS TO AT HOME? BECAUSE THAT IS THE EQUITABLE OPTION. BUT WE DO NOT HAVE THE PLANNING TIME AND IT'S BEING TAKEN, SO I HAVE AN INFLUX IN AND OUT FLUX OF STUDENTS THAT NEED TO BE CAUGHT UP BUT CAN'T AND WON'T STAY FOR STUDY CLUB, PARTIALLY BECAUSE THERE ARE NO BUSSES BEING PROVIDED AND BECAUSE STUDENTS DON'T WANT TO STAY AFTER SCHOOL ANYWAYS. AND YET WE ARE NO LONGER LETTING INCOMPLETE BE AN OPTION FOR THE GRADING PERIOD. I ASKED THE BOARD TO CONSIDER ALL OF THE STUDENTS AT HOME RIGHT NOW, LOSING OUT ON EDUCATION. I ALSO ASKED THAT YOU HAVE TEACHER REPRESENTATION ON WHATEVER COMMITTEE DECIDES WHAT SCHOOLS SHOULD GO REMOTE BECAUSE IF YOU'RE JUST GETTING COLD HARD NUMBERS, THAT DOESN'T REFLECT THE STRAIN ON THE SCHOOL. AT THE BEGINNING OF THIS MEETING, YOU STATE THAT OUR ATTENDANCE NUMBERS ARE GOING UP. MY BUILDING HAS BEEN WITHOUT A COVID COORDINATOR SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THEIR POSITION BECAUSE THEY'VE BEEN OUT SICK AND WE HAVE NOT BEEN GIVEN ANYONE TO FILL THAT POSITION. SO WHEN OUR NURSE WENT OUT SICK, I'M NOT SURE IF ANYONE IS STILL CONTACT TRACING. PLEASE PROVIDE US WITH A SUB SO THAT WE KNOW THAT THE POPULATION IS GOING UP BECAUSE STUDENTS ARE NO LONGER SICK AND NOT BECAUSE WE DON'T HAVE ANYONE IN THE BUILDING TO CONTACT, TRACE OR GIVE US A REASON FOR WHY WE CAN'T HAVE ONE, BECAUSE I HAVE NOT BEEN GIVEN A GOOD ANSWER FOR THAT. THANK YOU. THAT'S IT. THANK YOU, NASIM. AS INDICATED ON THE INK WHERE PEOPLE SIGN UP, BOARD MEMBERS DON'T RESPOND DIRECTLY TO COMMENTS MADE AT THIS TIME. THERE MAY BE IN TERMS OF YOUR PARTICULAR COMMENTS. PARTS OF IT ADDRESSED IN THE UPDATE THAT WE WILL BE HAVING AND THERE MAY OR MAY NOT NEED TO BE UPDATE AND FOLLOW UP FROM DISTRICT STAFF. BUT WE APPRECIATE YOUR TAKING THE TIME TO GIVE US YOUR INPUT, WHICH LEADS US TO ACTUALLY [10. REPORTS-7:45 pm] OUR STATUS REPORT, WHICH IS NEXT, AND I'LL TURN IT OVER TO DR. BALDERAS FOR THAT. THANK YOU, PRESIDENT KATIMS. WANT TO GET THE PRESENTATION UP IF I COULD. THANK YOU AGAIN, AND I APPRECIATE THE COMMENTS BEING MADE BY STAFF, I KNOW THAT BUILDING PRINCIPAL WAS TO SPEAK TO THAT STAFF MEMBER AS WELL TO ANSWER SPECIFIC QUESTIONS PERTINENT TO CPM. THE COVID SUPERVISOR IS THE BUILDING PRINCIPAL, COVID SUPERVISOR COORDINATOR IS THE [00:15:03] BUILDING PRINCIPAL. SO BUILDING PRINCIPAL IS THERE. SO THAT'S ONE THING. I THINK JUST CLARITY IN TERMS OF WHO DOES WHAT. ALSO HAVE THE CONTACT TRACING TEAM THAT WE HAVE TO BE ABLE TO HELP SUPPORT THAT AS WELL. SO I THINK IT'S LOOKING AT HOLISTICALLY. I THINK WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE SUPPORTING ALL STAFF AND UNDERSTAND THAT ON ANY GIVEN DAY, YOU KNOW, A SCHOOL DISTRICT LOOKS AT 10 PERCENT ABSENTEEISM AS THE NORM. WHEN I WAS A BUILDING LEADER AND WHEN I WAS A BUILDING PRINCIPAL, BE KIND OF EXPECTING 10 PERCENT OF YOUR STUDENT POPULATION TO BE OUT. AND WE HAVE SOME SCHOOLS THAT ACTUALLY ARE DOING FAIRLY WELL IN TERMS OF ATTENDANCE RATES, BUT DO UNDERSTAND THAT 25 PERCENT OF KIDS BEING OUT AT ANY GIVEN TIME. IS THIS AN ISSUE? I ALWAYS LOOK AT THE SEVENTY FIVE PERCENT OF THE KIDS THAT ARE IN PRESENT, THE SEVENTY FIVE PERCENT OF THE KIDS THAT DO COME TO SCHOOL, WHOSE PARENTS NEED THERE FOR A VARIETY OF REASONS FOR THEM TO BE AT SCHOOL. DO YOU AGREE THAT WE NEED TO CONTINUE TO WORK TO DO A BETTER JOB OF WHAT WE CAN DO TO ENSURE THAT WE DO THE BEST WE CAN IN A REMOTE SETTING? THAT'S ABSOLUTELY TRUE, AND I KNOW THE STUDENTS WE HAVE ON AS BOARD ADVISORS CAN SPEAK TO THAT AS WELL, BUT I'M GOING TO GO AHEAD AND GET STARTED HERE WITH WITH THE PRESENTATION. UH, NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE. I'LL TURN OVER TO DANA TO PROVIDE SOME CONTEXT HERE. ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU, DR. BALDERAS LAYNE. GOOD EVENING. BOARD OF DIRECTORS. SOME UPDATES FROM SNOHOMISH COUNTY HEALTH AND THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH. OUR CASE COUNTS ARE STARTING TO DECREASE A LITTLE BIT. TWO WEEKS AGO, WHEN WE WERE HERE, WE REPORTED THAT IT WAS TWO THOUSAND NINE HUNDRED NINETY SEVEN, AND ONCE THE CASE IS ALL OR THE POSITIVE RESULTS ALL CAME IN. THAT NUMBER DID GET ADJUSTED. IT TAKES A LOT. IT TAKES A LOT FOR SNOHOMISH COUNTY HEALTH TO GET THOSE NUMBERS UPDATED BECAUSE THERE'S JUST SO MANY RIGHT NOW. SO THAT NUMBER GOT UPDATED TO THREE THOUSAND THREE THOUSAND THREE HUNDRED AND TEN PER HUNDRED THOUSAND. SO THAT WAS TWO WEEKS AGO. AS OF YESTERDAY, WE WERE AT TWO THOUSAND SIX HUNDRED AND THIRTY SIX. SO THAT'S A DECREASE. AS WE KNOW AND DR. BALDERAS SAID EARLIER, IS THAT THE OMICRON VARIANT, HITS HARD, IT HITS FAST AND THEN IT LEAVES. THAT'S WHAT IT DID IN EUROPE. THAT'S WHAT HAD DONE THE EAST COAST AND THEN IT'S COME OVER. THE POSITIVITY RATE IS STILL UP, SO THE TESTING IS WORKING. IT'S A GREAT MITIGATING STRATEGY. IT'S UP A LITTLE BIT. IT'S AT THIRTY SIX PERCENT OF ALL THE TEST TAKEN IN SNOHOMISH COUNTY, THE TESTS THAT ARE RECORDED. THERE'S A LOT OF HOME TEST THAT MAY BE RECORDED IS AT THIRTY SIX PERCENT. THE HEAT MAP THAT'S AVAILABLE ON THIS SNOHOMISH COUNTY WEBSITE WILL SHOW THAT THE I-5 CORRIDOR IS WHERE THE HOT SPOTS ARE, THE BIGGER THE BIGGER CITIES IN THOSE KIND OF THINGS . ICU BEDS, AH THE USES AT HIGH LEVELS. I'M SURE YOU HEARD THE NATIONAL GUARD HAS BEEN CALLED IN AND MANY OF OUR AREA HOSPITALS. THE SURGE IS HERE AND IT'S ALREADY KIND OF TAKEN PLACE. INFECTIONS ARE TAKING PLACE NOW THE RESULT OF THAT. THE OMICRON VARIANT IS IS THE DOMINANT VARIANT. IT IS NINETY EIGHT PERCENT OF ALL THE COVID CASES IN SNOHOMISH COUNTY. AND THEN WE GOT SOME NEW GUIDANCE AND WE'VE CONTINUED TO RESPOND TO THE GUIDANCE THAT WE GET FROM DOH AND SUBSEQUENTLY FROM SNOHOMISH COUNTY HEALTH DISTRICT AND THAT CAME OUT ON THE MOST RECENT GUIDANCE CAME OUT ON JANUARY 18TH. NEXT SLIDE. SPECIFICALLY, IN THE EDMONDS SCHOOL DISTRICT, A COVID POSITIVE CASE RATE IN THE LAST 14 DAYS IS ONE THOUSAND ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY TWO. WE HAVE SEVERAL CASES THAT ARE STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION. WE DO HAVE A TEAM, A COVID RESPONSE TEAM THAT IS AT EDMONDS [INAUDIBLE] HIGH SCHOOL THAT WE'VE TALKED ABOUT BEFORE AND THEN TEAMS IN THE SCHOOLS. OUR SCHOOL TEAMS INCLUDE OUR HEALTH SCREENERS, OUR NURSES, OUR ADMINISTRATORS AND RESEARCHING THOSE CASES. THE CHANGE GUIDELINES THAT CAME ON THAT JANUARY 18TH SNOHOMISH COUNTY HEALTH RELEASE. NO ONE TALKED ABOUT CASE INVESTIGATION AND CONTACT TRACING, AND THEY PRIORITIZED IT FOR US. THEY REALIZE THAT SCHOOLS WERE OVERWHELMED. WE'RE DOING SOME SOME OF THE WORK THAT GENERALLY PUBLIC HEALTH DOES. IN KING COUNTY THEY HAVE A LITTLE MORE STAFF, AND I KNOW THAT PUBLIC HEALTH IS DOING A LITTLE MORE OF THAT CONTACT TRACING AND CASE INVESTIGATION. SNOHOMISH COUNTY IS A SMALL COUNTY HEALTH ORGANIZATION AND SO SCHOOLS, THE BURDEN OF CASE CONTACT TRACING AND CASE INVESTIGATION HAS REALLY FALLEN TO SCHOOLS. OUR COVID POSITIVE STAFF AND STUDENTS. THIS GUIDANCE ALLOWS FOR OUR COVID POSITIVE STAFF AND STUDENTS TO RETURN TO SCHOOL OR WORK ON DAY SIX WITHOUT A TEST. THAT WAS A BIG CHANGE. YOU HAVE TO DO THAT TO RETURN ON DAY SIX, YOU HAVE TO HAVE FIVE DAYS. SO ISOLATION. YOU HAVE TO HAVE YOU DON'T HAVE TO HAVE A NEGATIVE TEST ANYMORE. YOU HAVE TO BE FEVER FREE FOR TWENTY FOUR HOURS WITHOUT MEDICATION. YOUR SYMPTOMS HAVE TO BE RESOLVING OR GONE. AND IF PEOPLE NEED CLARITY ON THAT, I WOULD RECOMMEND THAT THEY CONTACT THEIR THEIR HEALTH PROVIDER. AND THEN THE MAJORITY OF THE COVID 19 OMICRON TRANSMISSION OCCURS EARLY IN THE START OF THE DISEASE. AND SO IT IS IT IS A QUICKER VARIANT. PEOPLE AREN'T AS SICK FOR AS LONG, AND THAT'S WHY THEY MADE THIS CHANGE WAS TO GET PEOPLE BACK, KIDS BACK IN SCHOOL, STAFF BACK TO WORK, THOSE KIND OF THINGS. AND SO WE KNOW THAT IT'S ABOUT TWO DAYS PRIOR TO THE ONSET OF SYMPTOMS, THEN SYMPTOMS IF [00:20:05] THEY HAVE THEM AT ALL AND THEN YOU'RE NO LONGER CONTAGIOUS. BUT IF AGAIN, IF PEOPLE ARE SICK, IF THEY HAVE A FEVER OF ANY SORT, THEY REALLY NEED TO CONTINUE TO ISOLATE AND THEY CAN CONTINUE TO TEST AS WELL. NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE. I'M SORRY FOR THE PREVIOUS SLIDE. IS THERE A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN STUDENTS WHO ARE AND WHO AREN'T VACCINATED? IF YOU'RE COVID POSITIVE? LOOKING FOR THE YEAH, THIS GUIDANCE HERE. NO, SO. OH YEAH, NEVER MIND. YEAH, IF YOU TEST POSITIVE, YEAH, THEN YOU CAN COME BACK ON DAY SIX AS LONG AS YOU CAN HIT THOSE OTHER BULLETS. ABSOLUTELY. YEAH. THANK YOU. SORRY. NO WORRIES? SO OUR RESPONSE AS A DISTRICT, WE DO REVIEW OUR ATTENDANCE TWO TO THREE TIMES A DAY. WE WE LOOK AT IT MIDDAY, WE'LL LOOK AT THE END OF THE DAY AND SOMETIMES WE'VE MET IN THE MORNING TO REVIEW AND AS WELL A STUDENT AND STAFF ATTENDANCE AND THEN HAVE DEPLOYED OUR [INAUDIBLE] AND OUR DISTRICT OFFICE STAFF IN RESPONSE TO THE NEEDS THAT ARE AT OUR BUILDINGS. AND WE ARE SO GRATEFUL THAT EVERYONE HAS STEPPED UP AND GOTTEN TO OUR SCHOOLS TO SUPPORT THEM. OUR CLASSROOM AND BUILDING CLOSURES ARE ALSO THE CONSIDERATION FOR THOSE IS UNDER REVIEW TWO TO THREE TIMES A DAY. WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE ATTENDANCE DATA, WE ALSO LOOK AT ALL THE REPORTS FROM ALL OF OUR BUILDING LEADERS AND AND OUR CODE RESPONSE TEAM AND SEE WHERE THERE ARE SOME HOT SPOTS. WE LOOK AT THE POSITIVE CASES IN A CLASSROOM, HOW MANY CASES ARE IN THAT CLASSROOM? WE LOOK AT THIS FOR THE LAST 14 DAYS, SO WE HAVE A RUNNING SPREADSHEET OF ALL OF THAT DATA. THE RATE OF TRANSMISSION, THAT'S WHERE IT'S REALLY CRITICAL TO HAVE OUR HEALTH SERVICES MANAGER AND HER KNOWLEDGE EPIDEMIOLOGICALLY ABOUT THE DISEASE, THE ATTENDANCE RATE, THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS AND STAFF THAT ARE OUT IN THAT CLASSROOM EITHER QUARANTINED OUT ILL. WE DON'T KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON. OUR BUILDING LEADERS DO AN INCREDIBLE JOB AND ARE PEOPLE WHO ARE RESEARCHING THESE CASES, DO AN INCREDIBLE JOB OF REACHING OUT AND FINDING OUT WHAT'S GOING ON IN EACH OF THESE SITUATIONS SO THAT WE CAN MAKE AN INFORMED DECISION AROUND A VARIETY OF METRICS. AND WE ALSO LOOK AT THE VACCINATION RATE. IT MATTERS BECAUSE THE RATE OF TRANSMISSION IS FAR LESS IN CLASSROOMS WHERE THERE'S A NUMBER OF KIDS THAT ARE VACCINATED. SO ALL OF THOSE THINGS INTO CONSIDERATION. THAT'S WHAT WE THINK ABOUT AS WE LOOK AT WHEN WE DECIDE TO CLOSE A CLASSROOM OR IN A FEW CASES WHERE WE'VE CLOSED DOWN A BUILDING FOR A FEW DAYS. NEXT SLIDE. REALLY QUICK UPDATE. WE'RE VERY EXCITED TO GET LAST THURSDAY AFTERNOON, I BELIEVE IT WAS MANY RAPID TESTS. WE GOT TEN THOUSAND RAPID TESTS. THEY ARE INDIVIDUALLY PACKAGED, BUT THEY ARE RAPID TESTS THAT WE COULD USE IN OUR SCHOOLS. OUR NURSES AND OUR HEALTH SCREENERS WERE ALL TRAINED ON FRIDAY BY OUR HEALTH SERVICES TEAM TO DO TO ADMINISTER THE RAPID TESTS. THERE'S A BIT OF A PROCESS TO IT, AND WE ARE REQUIRED TO REPORT THE POSITIVE RESULTS OF THE RAPID TEST TO THE CDC. SO THERE'S A FEW STEPS TO IT. BUT WE HAVE THOSE AND THEN WE ALSO HAVE PCR TESTS. SO WE'VE HAD PCR TESTS FOR A LONG TIME. IT'S A MORE COMPLETE, MORE RELIABLE TEST. BUT ALSO, IF YOU'VE BEEN COVID POSITIVE, YOU COULD TEST COVID POSITIVE ON THE PCR TEST FOR SOME TIME. SO THE RAPID TEST TESTS FOR THE ANTIGENS AND ESPECIALLY WITH OMICRON, IT WILL TEST EARLY AND THEN AFTER DAY WITH OR FINDING WITH SOME RESEARCH BASED FIVE SIX SEVEN YOU COULD YOU WOULD TEST. AND IF IT'S NEGATIVE, THAT'S A GOOD INDICATOR THAT THE DISEASE HAS PASSED THROUGH. THE RAPID ANTIGEN TEST AND THE PCR TESTS ARE AVAILABLE TO ALL STUDENTS AND STAFF AT EACH OF OUR SITES AND THE RAPID ANTIGEN TEST. I'M SURE YOU'VE HEARD THAT THEY'RE SOMEWHAT DIFFICULT TO COME BY. THERE ARE SOME AVAILABLE ONLINE THROUGH THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT IN WASHINGTON STATE. I KNOW MANY PEOPLE RECEIVED THEIRS. THEY ORDERED ON THURSDAY FROM THE STATE AND I RECEIVED SOME OF THE MAIL YESTERDAY. SEVERAL OF THE PEOPLE RECEIVED THEM ON SATURDAY. IT'S FIVE PER HOUSEHOLD FROM THE STATE AND I THINK IT'S FOUR PER HOUSEHOLD FROM THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. SO WE DO HAVE THOSE TEN THOUSAND. WE HAVE DEPLOYED THOSE OUT AND THEY GOT TO OUR BUILDINGS YESTERDAY MORNING AND WE HAVE ALREADY GIVEN OUT OR ADMINISTERED SEVERAL AND HAD 44 POSITIVE CASES AS A RESULT OF THE RAPID TEST. THIS IS ASIDE FROM ATHLETICS. SO THE PCR TESTS ARE STILL AVAILABLE. IN THE LAST TWO WEEKS SINCE WE LAST TALKED, WE'VE GIVEN TWO THOUSAND EIGHT HUNDRED AND FORTY EIGHT PCR TESTS AND THOSE ARE ALL GIVEN BY A STAFF MEMBER THAT'S BEEN TRAINED AND THEN READ BY A LAB. AND THOSE RESULTS GO DIRECTLY TO THE STAFF MEMBER OR THIS OR THE STUDENT'S FAMILY. ANY QUESTIONS ON THAT? HEY, DANA, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL THIS INFORMATION, AND THANK YOU FOR ALL THE HARD WORK AND GETTING THESE TESTING DONE AND AND THE REPORTING. I'M WONDERING WITH THE ATHLETICS ARE THE TEST RESULTS FOR ATHLETICS INCLUDED IN THIS [00:25:03] REPORT OR IS THAT SOMETHING SEPARATED OUT? DOES THAT? YES, WE DID NOT THE ATHLETICS. SO ATHLETICS DOES HAVE TO TEST TWO TIMES A WEEK. AND SO I DON'T HAVE THOSE NUMBERS HERE ON THE RAPID TESTS. I JUST HAVE THE THE ONES THAT WE'VE GIVEN ON THE LAST TWO DAYS. GREG, DO YOU DO YOU KNOW, ATHLETICS, ANY OF THE PERCENTAGES IN THOSE KIND OF THINGS BECAUSE THAT IS THE KIND OF A TEST TO PLAY? YEAH. AND SO WHAT I CAN TELL YOU, WE DO THREE TESTS A WEEK AND WE WERE AVERAGING ABOUT THREE HUNDRED TESTS A WEEK FOR OUR STUDENT ATHLETES. SO I DON'T KNOW THE PERCENTAGE OF TESTS FOR STUDENT ATHLETES, BUT WE WERE DOING ABOUT 300 TESTS PER WEEK. TO FIND OUT THAT INFORMATION, THOUGH ON THE POSITIVITY RATE WITH THAT. DAVID, CAN YOU SPEAK ON THE COMMENT JUST TO MAKE SURE THE BOARD UNDERSTANDS THE DASHBOARD AND WHAT'S ON THE DASHBOARD? YES, SO OUR DASHBOARD IS UPDATED REGULARLY. THE DIFFICULTY IS MANY CASES. I THINK IT'S EIGHT HUNDRED MAYBE TWENTY FIVE EIGHT HUNDRED FIFTY RIGHT NOW ARE STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION. THERE'S LOTS OF LAYERS WHEN WE INVESTIGATE CASES AND WE HAVE TO FIGURE OUT CLOSE CONTACTS WE HAVE TO MAKE IF THE RESEARCH, VACCINATION RESULTS AND THEN RESEARCH THE CLOSE CONTACTS AND ALL THOSE THINGS. SO IT'S PUT ON THERE. IT'S NOT RECORDED AS A POSITIVE CASE UNTIL WE HAVE SAID YES, IT'S A POSITIVE CASE AND WE'VE QUARANTINED IT ON THE LIST THINGS SO THAT NUMBER, THAT SAYS CASES UNDER INVESTIGATION IS THE NUMBER OF ACTIVE THAT WE'RE THAT WE'RE ACTUALLY WORKING ON RIGHT NOW, WHICH IS I WAS LOOKING AT A FEW OTHER SCHOOL DISTRICTS AND THAT IS PRETTY TYPICAL. SOME SCHOOL DISTRICTS ONLY UPDATE ONCE A WEEK. THIS LAST SURGE WAS REALLY A DIFFICULT ONE. THESE LAST TWO WEEKS, IT'S WE JUST YOU'RE REALLY STRUGGLING TO HAVE ENOUGH PEOPLE TO GET THROUGH ALL OF THE TESTING AND ALL THE RESULTS. I THINK THE OTHER THING THAT'S THAT'S NOTEWORTHY HERE IS IS THERE'S SO MANY HOME TESTS IN THOSE KIND OF THINGS, AND SOMETIMES PEOPLE ARE KEEPING THEIR CHILDREN HOME AND IT COULD BE THAT THEY HAD A HOME TEST. IT COULD BE JUST BECAUSE THEY'RE ASYMPTOMATIC AND THAT TESTING. WE'VE EVEN HEARD SOME PRIMARY CARE PHYSICIANS SAYING, IF YOU'RE SYMPTOMATIC, PRESUME YOU HAVE A OMICRON AND JUST STAY HOME. AND SO WE'RE KIND OF DEALING WITH, YOU KNOW, A HODGEPODGE. SO THAT'S WHY IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT THAT WE'RE PAYING ATTENTION TO THE ATTENDANCE RATES, TOO. WHEN WE LOOK AT CLASSROOMS, THERE ARE A FEW CASES AND LOOK IN THAT CLASSROOM AND THE ATTENDANCE RATE AND SEE WHAT MIGHT BE THE BEST COURSE OF ACTION. YES GARY, I HAD A QUESTION ON THE ATHLETIC TEST. I'M ACTUALLY SURPRISED THAT THE TESTS DON'T GO ALSO THROUGH DANA'S OFFICE. IS THERE A WAY THAT THAT COULD HAPPEN? AND MY SECOND QUESTION IS WHAT IS THE PROCESS WHEN A STUDENT IS HAS A POSITIVE ON AN ATHLETIC TEST? IS THAT INFORMATION AUTOMATICALLY TRANSMITTED TO DANA'S OFFICE? IS THAT PART OF THE CONSIDERATION ON CLOSING SCHOOLS AND EVERYTHING ELSE WE MAKE DECISIONS ON? YEAH, I'LL ANSWER THEN GREG CAN JUMP IN. SO IF THERE ARE POSITIVE TEST RESULTS THAT ABSOLUTELY DOES GET REPORTED TO OUR HEALTH SERVICES AND IT GETS CONTACT TRACING, ALL OF THOSE THINGS, AS WE KNOW, WE'VE HAD SOME ATHLETIC EVENTS AND THINGS CANCELED. SOMETIMES IT'S DIFFICULT FOR US TO FIND OPPONENTS TO PLAY BECAUSE THEY'VE CANCELED. I WAS I WAS TALKING TO SOMEONE A PARENT ABOUT THAT JUST TODAY. SO THEY DO IF THERE'S POSITIVE TESTS. I THINK THOUGH, I DO WANT TO FIND OUT ALL THESE TESTS THAT WE'RE GIVEN. AND ATHLETICS IS A GOOD, A GOOD ONE TO LOOK AT TO BECAUSE IT'S NOT PEOPLE THAT MAYBE THINK, OH, I'M FEELING SYMPTOMATIC OR I WANT TO TEST BECAUSE I'VE HAD AN EXPOSURE. IT'S JUST KIND OF A GROUP OF GROUP OF KIDS. SO A GROUP OF ATHLETES. SO THAT'S GOING TO BE SOME GOOD DATA FOR US TO LOOK AT. AND GARY, TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION ABOUT THE SO ATHLETICS MANAGES THEIR OWN TESTING, SO OUR ATHLETIC TRAINERS DO THE TESTING FOR OUR FOR OUR STUDENT ATHLETES. BUT AGAIN, I THINK THERE'S CERTAINLY THAT DATA CAN BE RUN BACK THROUGH AND INCLUDED IN THIS DATA SO THAT WE HAVE A MORE ACCURATE PICTURE BECAUSE, YOU KNOW, I'M SURE YOU ALL KNOW WE ARE, YOU KNOW, WHEN WE HAVE POSITIVE TESTS, WE ARE WE HAVE SHUT DOWN TEAMS. WE HAVE HAD TO POSTPONE GAMES AND THOSE KINDS OF THINGS. AND SO WE ARE, YOU KNOW, WE. YEAH. SO WE ARE RESPONDING WHEN WE GET THOSE POSITIVE TESTS. BUT IN TERMS OF IT BEING INCLUDED IN THIS DISTRICT DATA, THAT'S WE CAN CERTAINLY DO THAT AS A FOLLOW UP. THANK YOU, I THINK THAT WOULD CERTAINLY HELP. AND GARY IS INCLUDED IN THE PREVIOUS SLIDES THAT HAVE THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF POSITIVES IF THERE WERE ANY POSITIVES IN THE ATHLETICS THAT WAS INCLUDED IN THE POSITIVE REPORT. YEAH. ALL POSITIVES, ALL POSITIVES WITHIN EDMONDS SCHOOL DISTRICT ARE REPORTED WITHIN OUR WITHIN OUR SCOPE OF CONTROL, AS DANA STATED, ESPECIALLY WITH ALL THESE TESTS COMING OUT RIGHT NOW FROM THE STATE AND FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. THERE'S A LOT OF PEOPLE HOME TESTING THAT MAY NOT BE SUBMITTING ANYTHING TO US, AND WE WE URGE PEOPLE TO DO THAT. SNOHOMISH COUNTY, I THINK, HAS A TWO ONE ONE LINE THAT THAT THAT THAT ASKS YOU TO SELF-REPORT IF YOU HAVE THAT. SO AGAIN, WHEN WE SAY THAT THE DASHBOARD IS THE BEST THAT WE CAN DO, IT IS THE BEST WE CAN DO WITH THE INFORMATION WE DO HAVE. KNOWING FULL WELL THAT THERE'S GOING TO BE SOME VARIABILITY IN TERMS OF WHAT IS ACTUAL [00:30:05] DATA BECAUSE OF THE DATA WE MAY NOT HAVE IF YOU TEST IT HOME. THE KIDS HERE. STUDENTS HERE ON OUR CALL TEST AT HOME, THEY JUST CALL IN ILL. WE DON'T KNOW IF IT'S FOR ONE ILLNESS UNTIL WE TRACK IT FURTHER. I THINK THAT'S WHERE WE FIND DIFFICULTY BECAUSE WE HAVE A MINIMAL AMOUNT OF STAFF WORKING OUT OF EDMONDS WOULD WAY. I THINK WE HAVE TWO PEOPLE WORKING RIGHT NOW THAT ARE THE CONTACT TRACE TEAM FOR 20000 KIDS. SO WE'RE GOING AFTER THE HOT SPOTS AND THERE WILL BE SOME, SOME ISSUES WITH THE DATA. I'LL BE VERY FRANK WITH YOU. THERE WILL BE WITH THE DATA. SO I WOULD LIKE TO JUST CLARIFY THAT IF PEOPLE REPORT TO SNOHOMISH COUNTY, WE DON'T NECESSARILY GET THAT INFORMATION EITHER, RIGHT? THAT'S TRUE. YES, CORRECT. THAT'S TRUE. OKAY. AND WITH CONTACT TRACING. COULD YOU TALK JUST BRIEFLY ABOUT I HAVE TWO PIECES. YOU KNOW, CLEARLY STATE WHAT OUR APPROACH IS NOW. IT SEEMS TO BE DIFFERENT. AND SECONDLY, IS THERE A DIFFERENCE IF A CHILD IS IDENTIFIED AS A CLOSE CONTACT, IS THERE A DIFFERENCE IN POLICY NOW BETWEEN VACCINATED AND UNVACCINATED? YES. SO IF YOU ARE A CLOSE CONTACT AND YOU ARE VACCINATED, YOU CAN STILL COME TO SCHOOL OR WORK IF AGAIN YOU'RE VACCINATED AS LONG AS YOU'RE NOT PRESENTING WITH ANY SYMPTOMS. SO YOU REALLY WATCH. WE ENCOURAGE IF YOU'RE A CLOSE CONTACT TO STILL TEST, AS WE KNOW OMICRON, EVEN PEOPLE WHO ARE VACCINATED ARE SOMETIMES GETTING ILL. SO AND THEN IF YOU'RE UNVACCINATED OR IF YOU'RE 18 OR OVER AND YOU HAVEN'T HAD YOUR BOOSTER AND PLUS 14 DAYS, YOU'RE NOT CONSIDERED FULLY VACCINATED SO UNVACCINATED ARE NOT FULLY VACCINATED, THEN YOU HAVE TO QUARANTINE, THEN FOR THE FULL 10 DAYS. AND SO THAT AND I JUST TO BE CLEAR, THAT IS THE GUIDANCE THAT COMES FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND THROUGH SNOHOMISH HEALTH DISTRICT, AND WE DON'T HAVE ANY LEEWAY IN TERMS OF MAKING OUR POLICY DIFFERENT FROM WHAT THEY TELL US THAT WE HAVE TO DO, RIGHT? CORRECT. THAT'S THE GUIDANCE THAT THEY GIVE US. AND THEN, YEAH, AND THEN WE SUBSEQUENTLY FOLLOW. IT'S ONE OF THE REASONS THAT WE REALLY PROVIDED SO MUCH TESTING ALSO, BECAUSE I THINK IT'S A GOOD WAY FOR PEOPLE TO TO MANAGE AND HAVING THAT AVAILABLE AND HAVING IMMEDIATE RESULTS WITH THE ANTIGEN TEST 15 MINUTES AND HAVING THOUSANDS OF ANTIGEN TESTS. AND THEN THE OTHER QUESTION THAT HASN'T COME UP. BUT WE COULD TOUCH ON IS WE HAVE ANTIGEN TESTS RIGHT NOW. WE HAVE NEIGHBORS WHO HAVE MOVED TO TEST THIS DAY AND THEY ARE RUNNING OUT OF THEIR ANTIGEN TESTS BECAUSE THEY'VE USED SO MANY. SO ONE OF THE REASONS WE DIDN'T MOVE TO TEST THIS DAY AND TESTING ALL OF OUR STUDENTS OR STAFF IF THEY'D BEEN A CLOSE CONTACT REGULARLY WAS, IT WASN'T SUSTAINABLE. YOU NEED STAFF AND WE NEED A NUMBER OF ANTIGEN TESTS TO BE ABLE TO DO THAT. AND WE HAVE SOME WE ORDERED. I THINK IT WAS TWENTY TWO THOUSAND AND GOT TEN THOUSAND LAST WEEK. AND WE'VE ALREADY, YOU KNOW, WE'VE ALREADY GIVEN OUT TO OUR BUILDINGS. WE HELD BACK EIGHTEEN HUNDRED, BUT WE'VE GIVEN OUT THE OTHER EIGHTY TWO HUNDRED AND THEY'RE BEING USED AS IDENTIFIED HERE VERY RAPIDLY. SO NO PUN INTENDED, RIGHT? BUT HERE WE GO AND AND WE KNOW THAT WE KNOW THAT TESTING IS SUCH A MITIGATING STRATEGY. IT'S SO GOOD IF SOMEONE HAS BEEN A CLOSE CONTACT OR IF THEY'VE IF THEY ARE SYMPTOMATIC, WE WANT TO PROVIDE THAT RESOURCE. SO I'M SORRY, I'M JUST TRYING TO GET CLEAR IF AN UNVACCINATED STUDENT IS IDENTIFIED AS A CLOSE CONTACT BUT THEY TEST NEGATIVE, THEY CAN STAY OR NO? NO, THEY'RE OUT FOR 10 DAYS. THEY'RE OUT FOR 10 DAYS, NO MATTER WHAT. IF THEY'RE UNVACCINATED. YES. UH-HUH. UH-HUH. AND HAVE WE HEARD ANYTHING FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH? SO HERE'S WHAT I'M GETTING AT IS YOU KNOW, WHY, WHAT WHAT IS THE REASONING? IT SEEMS LIKE OMICRON IS SWEEPING THROUGH OUR POPULATION. AND OF COURSE, YOU KNOW, I'M NOT JUST SAYING JUST BECAUSE I GOT IT, BUT YOU KNOW, IT SEEMS LIKE I KNOW QUITE A FEW PEOPLE WHO WERE TRIPLE HAVE HAD THREE THREE SHOTS OF CAME DOWN WITH IT. AND SO IS, IS THERE DATA? ARE THEY TELLING US THAT THERE'S DATA THAT'S DIFFERENT THAT IN TERMS OF, YOU KNOW, IF YOU'RE YOU'RE GOING TO BE CONTAGIOUS, WHETHER YOU'RE VACCINATED OR NOT, IF YOU HAVE IT, YOU HAVE IT RIGHT, RIGHT? AND I WOULD PRESUME THE VIRAL LOAD IS MORE AND PEOPLE THAT ARE UNVACCINATED. BUT I KNOW I DO KNOW THAT IF YOU ARE UNVACCINATED, YOU'RE 19 MORE 19 TIMES MORE LIKELY TO BE HOSPITALIZED AS A RESULT OF OMICRON, THAT'S FROM THE CDC. SO I KNOW THAT THAT'S THE INTENT IS THAT IF PEOPLE ARE UNVACCINATED, THE WORRY IS THAT IF [00:35:01] IF THEY GET COVID THAT THEY'RE MORE AT RISK, RIGHT? AND THERE'S AND SO I THINK THAT THAT'S IT AND WANTING PEOPLE TO GET VACCINATED. I THINK THAT THAT'S THE OTHER PUSH FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND OUR LOCAL HEALTH JURISDICTION. WOW. OK, BUT I WOULD ALSO SAY THAT THE VIRAL LOAD ISSUE SEEMS TO BE MORE SUITABLE HERE THAT IF A PERSON HAS A HIGHER VIRAL LOAD THAN I ASSUME THEY'RE MORE CONTAGIOUS, AND SO THAT WOULD BE REASONING TO KEEP THEM OUT OF SCHOOL, OUT OF THE BUILDING. THE OTHER ONE, THAT'S NOT SOMETHING I WOULD DO, BUT I COULD, YOU KNOW, IF THAT'S WHAT THEY'RE DOING. OK. I MEAN, OBVIOUSLY, I WANT EVERYONE TO GET VACCINATED. I JUST WANT TO BE CLEAR THAT THE SCHOOL DISTRICT IS NOT DOING THIS TO PUNISH PEOPLE FOR BEING UNVACCINATED. YES. WE WANT TO CONTINUE TO PROVIDE TESTING AND MITIGATING STRATEGIES AND MASK WEARING AND ALL OF THOSE THINGS THAT WE KNOW WORK AND DO OUR BEST TO KEEP EVERYONE SAFE AND HEALTHY. I'M CURIOUS, OVER THE LAST FEW DAYS, THE SEATTLE TIMES AND A FEW OTHER NEWS OUTLETS HAVE REPORTED THAT THERE'S POSSIBLY ANOTHER STRAIN OF OMICRON RUNNING AROUND THAT ISN'T GETTING PICKED UP AS EASILY BY THESE TASKS. WAS THAT PART OF YOUR CONVERSATION WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AT ALL AND ANY OF THAT COME UP? NO, I JUST I HEARD THAT PROBABLY THE SAME AS YOU DID, YOU KNOW, FROM NEWS OUTLETS AND THOSE KIND OF THINGS. WE DIDN'T HAVE A MEETING WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH TODAY. WE USUALLY DO ON TUESDAYS. AND SO PERHAPS THERE'S SOME OF THAT RESEARCH GOING ON AND THEY'RE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THE NEXT THE NEXT THING WILL BE. YOU KNOW, WE'RE GOING TO HOLD ON TO THE THE POSITIVES THAT OUR CASE COUNTS ARE COMING DOWN AND REALLY WE'RE SEEING MUCH BETTER ATTENDANCE THIS WEEK IN THOSE KIND OF THINGS. I MEAN, THE CASE COUNTS ARE SO SIGNIFICANTLY LESS THAN THEY WERE LAST WEEK. BUT YEAH, I DON'T HAVE MUCH DATA ON THAT, BUT I DO PRESUME THAT WE'LL HEAR VERY SOON FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH. DR. BALDERAS. AND IN OUR NURSING TEAM, WE'RE MEET WITH THEM FREQUENTLY, SOMETIMES MULTIPLE TIMES A WEEK. SO, DANA, I'M WONDERING WHAT I'VE READ IS THAT WITH OMICRON, PEOPLE ARE INFECTIOUS TWO DAYS BEFORE THEY SHOW SYMPTOMS AND THREE DAYS AFTER THEY SHOW SYMPTOMS. SO I'M WONDERING IN THE DISCUSSIONS WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH STAFF, HOW HOW DOES THAT COINCIDE WITH THE REQUIREMENT THAT UNVACCINATED PEOPLE QUARANTINE FOR 10 FULL DAYS, WHICH SEEMS LENGTHY IN COMPARISON TO THE TWO DAYS BEFORE AND THREE DAYS AFTER INFECTIOUS INFORMATION? I WOULD HAVE TO PRESUME, AND I'M NOT A MEDICAL WRITER, BUT I WOULD HAVE TO PRESUME AGAINST GOING BACK TO THAT VIRAL LOAD AND PEOPLE WHO WE DO KNOW FROM RESEARCH THAT PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT VACCINATED AND CONTRACTING OMICRON ARE MUCH MORE SICK, AS YOU KNOW, AS A GENERAL RULE THAN PEOPLE WHO ARE VACCINATED. AND I PRESUME THAT WHY. SO BASICALLY, THE 10 DAY QUARANTINE ON THE UNVACCINATED IS REALLY DESIGNED TO TRY TO PROTECT THE UNVACCINATED FROM BECAUSE THEY'RE MUCH MORE LIKELY TO GET SERIOUSLY ILL. RIGHT, OK. I CAN DO A LITTLE MORE DIGGING ON THAT, TOO, AND SPEAK WITH MARA A LITTLE BIT AND SEE IF SHE HAS SOME OTHER INFORMATION ON THAT AS WELL. THANK YOU. YEAH, THAT WOULD BE HELPFUL. I FORGOT A LITTLE PIECE. CAN YOU TELL US HOW HOW WE'RE DOING CONTACT TRACING? I KNOW THAT WE'RE PRIORITIZING CERTAIN ACTIVITIES NOW. HOW IS THAT ALWAYS A GOAL? IT'S IT'S HELPFUL THAT WE'VE GOT SOME GUIDANCE AROUND THE PRIORITIZATION BECAUSE BEFORE WE WERE CONTACT TRACING TO A VERY SIGNIFICANT DEGREE. AND SO NOW WE KNOW THAT IF THERE'S EVER SPACES WHERE KIDDOS ARE UNMASKED, THAT THAT'S A PRIORITY OR SPACES WHERE KIDS ARE LESS THAN THREE FEET, THAT THAT'S A PRIORITY. TRANSPORTATION IS ALSO A PRIORITY. SO AND THEN SO THE OTHER PIECE IS IF, IF IF STUDENTS ARE THREE FEET OR MORE AND FULLY MASKED, IF YOU THINK ABOUT IN A GENERAL EDUCATION CLASSROOM, HOW WE HAVE KIDS, THAT THERE'S KIDS THAT ARE SPREAD APART MASK THE WHOLE TIME, THAT THAT'S NOT AS MUCH OF A PRIORITY. OF COURSE, WE WANT TO LOOK AT ALL OF IT IF WE HAVE THE TIME AND THE RESOURCES TO DO IT. BUT THE WHEN THEY SAID THE HIGH PRIORITY IS REALLY IF THERE ARE SITUATIONS WHERE STUDENTS ARE UNMASKED, WHICH MIGHT HAPPEN IN SOME CLASSROOMS, LIKE I'M THINKING OF A CLASSROOM WHERE IT'S A CHALLENGE FOR STUDENTS TO CONSISTENTLY WEAR A MASK FOR FOR DEVELOPMENTAL REASONS, THEN THAT IS DEFINITELY A PRIORITY FOR US TO KNOW WHO'S BEEN EXPOSED OR WHO COULD HAVE BEEN MORE THAN, YOU KNOW, WITHIN LESS THAN SIX FEET AND MAYBE EVEN THREE FEET, AND ALSO FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME. SO THE PRIORITIZATION WAS HELPFUL BECAUSE WE KNEW WE ONLY HAVE A LIMITED AMOUNT OF RESOURCES AND WHERE TO PUT THAT FIRST SO THAT WE CAN CONTACT TRACE THEIR. [00:40:12] SO REALLY APPRECIATE THE COMMENTS AND THE QUESTIONS, I THINK CARIN, DIRECTOR CHASE TO GET A QUESTION. I JUST HAD A QUICK QUESTION. I BELIEVE WE'RE ALL OF OUR BUILDINGS ARE BACK TO IN PERSON NOW. YES, THANK YOU. WE HAD A FEW SCHOOL SCHOOL CLOSURES, AND ALL OF THEM ARE BACK. THANK YOU. THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR WORK ON THIS. YOU BET. SO WE'LL CONTINUE TO WORK ON IMPROVING THE DASHBOARD AS BEST WE CAN TO DIRECTOR NOBLE'S POINT REGARDING THE ATHLETICS AND MAKING SURE THAT WE ARE ALL FULL ENCOMPASSING IN TERMS OF JUST THE THE DATA AND ALL THAT STAFF ARE DOING THE BEST THEY CAN TO TRY AND UPLOAD THAT AS QUICKLY AS WE CAN. YOU KNOW, I THINK WHEN I WAS WITH DR. SPITTERS, I THINK A WEEK OR SO AGO, YOU MENTIONED THAT THERE WAS TALK THAT THIS CURRENT VARIANT WILL MAKE ITS WAY ACROSS HALF OF ALL WASHINGTONIANS WITHIN THE NEXT THREE OR FOUR WEEKS. SO I THINK THAT WAS THE COMMUNICATION THAT HE HAD, THAT THIS IS GOING TO BE SOMETHING THAT IS VERY CONTAGIOUS, REALLY QUICK AND IT GOES AWAY. SO I THINK PEOPLE ARE DOING THE BEST THEY CAN AND AGAIN AND WE'RE DOING THE BEST WE CAN. SO I THINK I JUST WANT TO JUST MAKE A POINT THAT WE'RE DOING EVERYTHING WE CAN WITH OUR RESOURCES TO DO WHAT IS BEING ASKED OF US? I THINK THE CONFUSION HAS TO DO WITH THE DIFFERENT GUIDELINES THAT KEEP MORPHING FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HOW DO WE COMMUNICATE THAT OUT TO THE COMMUNITIES, TO THE PUBLIC, TO ALL PUBLIC AND JUST MAKING SURE THAT WE CONTINUE TO REALLY REITERATE WHAT IS HAPPENING NOW? NOW WHAT HAPPENED A MONTH AGO, EVEN TWO WEEKS AGO? WHAT'S HAPPENING NOW? BECAUSE IT IS IT DOES KEEP MORPHING. AND I THINK THAT'S CAUSING SOME OF THE CONFUSION IS THE CHANGING GUIDANCE, WHICH IS AGAIN, USING SCIENCE, USING SCIENCE TO THEY'RE USING SCIENCE TO GUIDE US, BUT IT'S IT'S CHANGED FROM THE VERY BEGINNING. I THINK THAT'S CAUSING SOME CONFUSION. WE'LL CONTINUE TO WORK WITH OUR COMMUNITIES, WITH OUR STAFFS TO TRY TO UNDERSTAND THE WHY, THE WHY AND OF COURSE, OUR BOARD OF DIRECTORS, THE WHY. AND PLEASE ASK US QUESTIONS BECAUSE WE'RE HERE AND WE'LL GET INFORMATION FROM YOU, FROM FROM THE COUNTY AND FROM ANYWHERE TO SEE IF WE COULD MAKE IT EASIER FOR PEOPLE TO REALLY UNDERSTAND THE WHY. BECAUSE SOMETIMES IT'S IT'S TOUGH FOR US TO UNDERSTAND THE CHANGES UNTIL WE REALLY TALK TO SOMEBODY FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH SO THEY CAN GUIDE US TO UNDERSTAND. ARE THERE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS ON THIS, INCLUDING FROM OUR STUDENT ADVISERS? I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO THANK ALL THE STAFF FOR EVERYTHING YOU'RE DOING, I KNOW THE CABINET HAS BEEN MEETING TWO OR THREE TIMES EVERY DAY TO BE KEEPING AN EYE ON ALL THE THE DATA. THAT'S THE MOST UP TO DATE THAT THEY CAN THEY HAVE AT THEIR FINGERTIPS. AND I PARTICULARLY WANT TO THANK YOU, DANA, BECAUSE I CAN'T IMAGINE THE WORKLOAD ON TOP OF YOUR REGULAR DAY JOB WORKLOAD IS EXTRAORDINARY. AND SO WE REALLY APPRECIATE ALL OF THE WORK YOU'RE DOING AND THAT YOU'VE TAKEN ON THIS ADDITIONAL ROLE, WHICH IS HUGE AND SEEMS TO BE GOING ON LONGER THAN ANYBODY EXPECTED. SO THANK YOU. SO NEXT ON THE AGENDA, WE'RE DONE WITH THAT REPORT, RIGHT? DR. BALDERAS. I THINK WE HAD LIKE ONE MORE SLIDE, I THINK. OK. ISABELLE WANTED TO SAY SOMETHING. POSSIBLY SHE POPPED ON SCREEN ONE OF OURS. OH, GREAT. ISABEL, GO FOR IT. YEAH. I JUST WANTED TO THANK THE DISTRICT ALSO FOR REALLY PRIORITIZING THE SAFETY OF THE STUDENTS BY CLOSING THE TWO SCHOOLS THAT HAD VERY HIGH CASES, BUT ALSO TRYING TO KEEP THE SCHOOLS WHO HAD A FEW CASES TRYING TO KEEP THOSE SCHOOLS OPEN AS LONG AS POSSIBLE, BECAUSE I KNOW THERE'S A BIG DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HAVING ONLINE SCHOOL AND IN-PERSON SCHOOL. AND ALSO, I HAVE NOTICED THAT THIS WEEK THERE ARE, LIKE ALMOST ALL, ALL OF MY CLASSES HAVE BEEN PRETTY FULL, SO NOT AS MANY ABSENCES IN MY CLASSES, BUT THANK YOU. THANK YOU. AND JUST TO END THE PRESENTATION, I THINK WE WANTED TO JUST SHARE SOME PHOTOS OF SOME OF OUR CLASSROOMS. AND JUST TO END WITH OUR WHY THIS IS OUR WHY OR WHY. BECAUSE WE HAVE KIDS IN CLASSROOMS, TEACHERS DOING GREAT THINGS. I KNOW THAT WE ARE GOING TO MAKE MISTAKES AS A DISTRICT. I'LL BE THE FIRST ONE TO SAY THAT WE MAKE. I MAYBE, YOU KNOW, WE MAKE MISTAKES, BUT IT'S WITH THE BEST INTENTIONS THAT WE MAKE DECISIONS AND WE'RE NOT GOING TO GET IT RIGHT. BUT WE GET IT RIGHT. A LOT OF THE TIMES WE GET IT RIGHT, A LOT OF THE TIMES AND WE DO THE BEST WE CAN FOR OUR BABIES THAT ARE UNDER OUR CHARGE. YOU KNOW, WE'RE IN LOCAL PRENTICE AS SCHOOL AT SCHOOLS, MEANING THAT WE HAVE OUR KIDS, [00:45:03] PEOPLE'S KIDS UNDER OUR CHARGE DURING SCHOOL HOURS AND WE DO THE BEST WE CAN AND WE'LL CONTINUE TO DO SO. AND I KNOW THAT WE'RE NOT GOING TO MAKE PEOPLE HAPPY SOMETIMES. I KNOW THAT. I DON'T MAKE. I DON'T MAKE PEOPLE HAPPY EVERY DAY. I TELL MY STAFF IF I WANTED TO MAKE PEOPLE HAPPY, I'D BE SELLING ICE CREAM SOMEWHERE. RIGHT. BUT THAT'S NOT THE REALITY OF THE JOB RIGHT NOW. THAT'S NOT THE REALITY OF THE JOB. THE REALITY OF JOB IS WE'RE DOING THE BEST WE CAN TO EDUCATE OUR KIDS AND THIS IS NOT FUN. NO ONE'S HAVING ANY FUN RIGHT NOW IN TERMS OF THE ADULTS IN THE SYSTEM AT THE DISTRICT OFFICE. BUT I DO HOPE WHEN I GO IN CLASSROOMS, I DO SEE FUN WHEN TEACHERS ARE TEACHING KIDS. AND BEFORE THIS JANUARY HIT BOARD MEMBERS, THEY WERE ABLE TO TO COME WITH ME. YOU SAW THAT YOU SAW THE KIDS IN ACTION AND KIDS HAVING A GOOD TIME LEARNING AND DOING THE BEST YOU CAN, AND THEY'RE STILL DOING THAT. RIGHT NOW, THEY'RE JUST A HIGHER LEVEL OF ABSENTEEISM THAT WE'RE GOING TO GET THROUGH. SO I THINK JUST HOLD ON, WE'VE GOT TO JUST HOLD ON FOR A LITTLE BIT LONGER AND WE'RE ALMOST THERE WHERE I CAN FEEL IT. WE'RE ALMOST THERE, BUT WE WILL PROVIDE THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS WITH AS MUCH INFORMATION AS WE CAN GATHER, INCLUDING A FRIDAY MEMO. ALSO, BE PREPARED TO ANSWER DEEPER QUESTIONS REGARDING GUIDANCE FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND THE NEXT BOARD MEETING AS WELL, BUT REALLY WANT TO THANK DANA. THE NURSING STAFF [INAUDIBLE], WHO IS PHENOMENAL AND EVERYONE ELSE WHO'S REALLY STEPPED UP TO REALLY DO THIS HARD WORK. ESPECIALLY AGAIN, I WANT TO THANK THE KIDS AND THE STAFF IN THE SCHOOLS BECAUSE THAT'S WHERE THE MAGIC HAPPENS EACH AND EVERY DAY. THANK YOU. THANK YOU, DR. BALDERAS, FOR YOUR VERY HONEST COMMENTS, AND ESPECIALLY TO ALL OUR SCHOOL BASED TEACHERS AND STAFF, ALL OUR SUPPORT STAFF OF ALL TYPES FOR DOING WHAT HE'S SAYING, WHICH IS THAT THE ONGOING DAILY ACTIVITIES OF LEARNING AND ENJOYING BEING THERE IN PERSON FOR THE KIDS IS PARAMOUNT. AND SO THAT IS HAPPENING DESPITE ALL OF THESE ISSUES OF ANGST THAT THE GROWNUPS HAVE TO DEAL WITH IN THE BACKGROUND. BUT THAT'S WHAT MATTERS THE MOST ARE THESE PICTURES ARE GREAT. THANK YOU FOR INCLUDING THEM. UP NEXT ON THE AGENDA IS OUR NOVEMBER BUDGET REPORT, AND I THINK PROBABLY LYDIA IS UP FOR THAT. I SURE AM, IT'S THE BUDGET STATUS REPORT FOR NOVEMBER, AND I'D LIKE TO SAY THAT AT LEAST THE BUDGET HAS BEEN VERY STABLE, WHICH IS A RELIEF FOR ME IN THE MIDST OF EVERYTHING ELSE. SO CHERYL, YOU'D GO THE NEXT PAGE. IT'S HARD TO SEE ON THE SCREEN, BUT IN THE GENERAL FUND EXPENDITURES ARE JUST SLIGHTLY HIGHER AS A PERCENTAGE THAN WE WERE LAST YEAR, BUT DO RECALL THAT EXPENDITURES WERE A LITTLE BIT LOWER LAST YEAR BECAUSE A LOT OF SCHOOLS WERE CLOSED. SO I'M PLEASED TO SEE THAT ACTUALLY WE ARE JUST TRENDING JUST FINE. NOTHING CONCERNING THAT WE'RE SEEING IN THE TRANSPORTATION VEHICLE FUND, YOU'LL SEE EXPENDITURES. SO THESE ARE BOTH CURRENT EXPENDITURES AND PLANNED EXPENDITURES, WHICH ARE CALLED ENCUMBRANCES. THERE ARE SEVEN HUNDRED AND TWENTY THREE THOUSAND THERE, AND WE WILL BE RECEIVING FIVE OF THE LARGER BUSSES, PROBABLY IN ABOUT A MONTH. SO IT'S NICE TO SEE THAT THAT ORDER ISN'T DELAYED UNTIL THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR. SO BE NICE TO HAVE A FEW NEW BUSSES SO WE CAN TURN TO THE NEXT SLIDE. ALSO HERE WE CAN SEE THAT LOCAL TAXES ARE EXTREMELY CONSISTENT WITH THE PREVIOUS YEAR. I'M ALSO PLEASED TO SEE THAT PROPERTY TAX COLLECTIONS HAVE RETURNED TO THEIR HISTORICAL TRENDS AND PATTERNS, SO THAT MAKES PROJECTIONS A LITTLE BIT EASIER FOR STATE GENERAL PURPOSE AND STATE SPECIAL PURPOSE. SO STATE GENERAL PURPOSE IS WHAT WE CALL APPORTIONMENT. IT'S FUNDING BASED ON THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS PREDOMINANTLY STATE GENERAL PURPOSES, THINGS LIKE SPECIAL EDUCATION, WRAP FUNDING, HIGHLY CAPABLE FUNDING, TRANSPORTATION FUNDING, AND THOSE ARE BASED ON OUR BUDGET. AND THEN THEY WILL TRUE UP TO OUR ACTUAL COUNTS LATER. ACTUALLY, JUST RIGHT ABOUT NOW THIS MONTH. SO FOR THE JANUARY 31ST REPORT, WE WILL TRUE UP TO MORE ACTUAL FIGURES. BUT ENROLLMENT IS NOT TOO FAR OFF BUDGET, JUST SLIGHTLY DOWN, SO WE SHOULDN'T SEE LARGE [00:50:08] SWINGS. AND THE NEXT SLIDE. SO JUST POINT OUT, THE ONLY ONE TO POINT OUT ON THIS SLIDE IS THE KIND OF LIGHT GREEN COLOR, TOP RIGHT? BUT ALL SOURCES ACTUAL YEAR TO DATE COMPARED TO PROJECTION, WE DO LOOK LOWER AND THAT'S THE EFFECT OF ESSER DOLLARS. SO IN NOVEMBER, DECEMBER, EVEN NOW, WE'RE STILL BALANCING UP WHAT WE'RE CHARGING TO ESSER. AND SO SOME OF THOSE COSTS ARE BEING MOVED OUT OF BASIC EDUCATION. AND THEN ONCE THEY'RE MOVED INTO THE ESSER CATEGORY, WE'LL MAKE THE CLAIM TO OSPI. SO THAT BAR CHART WILL GET CLOSER TO PROJECTIONS. IT'S SOME ACCOUNTING CHANGES THAT WE JUST WE KNEW WE'D HAVE TO MAKE ONCE THINGS SETTLE DOWN. AH NEXT SLIDE. OK, THEN THE GREAT THING ABOUT EXPENDITURES, IF YOU LOOK AT THE RED, THE PURPLE AND THE BLUE, ALL EXPENDITURES ARE COMING IN REALLY CLOSE TO WHERE WE WOULD PROJECT THEM TO BE FOR THREE MONTHS OF THE FISCAL YEAR. THE NEXT ONE. THIS IS OUR PROJECTED ENDING FUND BALANCE FOR THE YEAR. THE BLUE LINE IS WHERE WE'RE EXPECTING THE YEAR TO COME IN, AND IT'S VERY CONSISTENT WITH WHAT YOU'VE SEEN IN SEPTEMBER AND OCTOBER, SO NOTHING TO MAKE US CHANGE OUR PROJECTIONS AT THIS TIME. AND AS ALWAYS, IF FUTURE MONTHS SHOW SOME VARIATION IN EITHER REVENUES OR EXPENDITURES, BOTH POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE, THAT WILL BE ADJUSTED AND THE REASONS FOR THAT WOULD BE EXPLAINED IN A FUTURE MONTH'S BUDGET STATUS. AND THEN THE NEXT SLIDE. OK, SO THIS IS NICE TO SEE WE ARE AT NINETEEN THOUSAND SEVEN HUNDRED AND TWENTY EIGHT FULL TIME EQUIVALENT STUDENTS. THAT INCLUDES RUNNING START AND OPEN DOORS. AND WE ARE JUST TWENTY NINE BELOW WHERE WE WERE A YEAR AGO. AND I GET THE ADVANTAGE OF LOOKING INTO THE FUTURE. AND SO FAR, DECEMBER IS ALSO JUST A TINY BIT BELOW THE PREVIOUS YEAR, AND IT LOOKS LIKE JANUARY WE MIGHT EQUAL OUT WITH WHERE WE WERE AT LAST YEAR. SO I'M PLEASED TO SEE THE THE INCREASE BETWEEN SEPTEMBER AND NOVEMBER, AND IT LOOKS LIKE WE ARE FLATTENING OUT WITH JANUARY OF LAST YEAR AND HOPE NOT TO SEE THE DECREASE SINCE SCHOOL IS IN PERSON NOW, THAT WE DID IN THE SPRING. AND THEN THE FINAL SLIDES ARE THE REQUIRED BUDGET STATUS REPORTS FOR EACH FUND. AND UNLESS THERE ARE ANY QUESTIONS FROM THE BOARD OR THE STUDENT BOARD THAT IS COMPLETE THE NOVEMBER REPORT. ON EXCUSE ME, ON SLIDE FOUR, A I BELIEVE THAT WAS REVENUE, IT LOOKED LIKE YOU HAD MENTIONED THAT THE FEDERAL WAS LOW. IT ALSO LOOKS LIKE THE LOCAL IS ABOUT FIVE PERCENT UNDER, IS THAT RIGHT? THE LOCAL? YES, YOU ARE CORRECT. THE LOCAL IN ORDER TO SPEND MONEY THAT WE DON'T, WE HAVEN'T ANTICIPATED AT THE BEGINNING OF WHEN WE DO THE BUDGET, WE HAVE CAPACITY BOTH IN REVENUES AND EXPENDITURES. SO THE FOUNDATION IS A GREAT EXAMPLE. YOU KNOW, OUR GREAT FOUNDATION PARTNERS DONATE MONIES, BUT WE DON'T NECESSARILY KNOW WHAT THEY'RE GOING TO BE. WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE HAVE ADEQUATE CAPACITY TO ACCEPT THAT DONATION AND THEN SPEND IT. YOUR JOB AS THE BOARD IS TO MAKE SURE THAT WE DON'T EXCEED OUR SPENDING CAPACITY AND SO THAT WE HAVE THAT CAPACITY TO BE ABLE TO ACCEPT GRANTS AND DONATIONS, AND IT'S HEAVILY WEIGHTED IN THE LOCAL SOURCES CATEGORY. SO WE WILL HIGHLY UNLIKELY EVER GET TO 100 PERCENT OF THE OF THE BUDGETED LOCAL BECAUSE [00:55:03] THAT'S THAT'S MECHANICALLY HOW WE MAKE SURE THAT WE HAVE ROOM TO ACCEPT. THANK YOU. THANKS, LYDIA, ARE THERE ANY OTHER COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS FROM BOARD MEMBERS OR STUDENT ADVISORS? AND I CAN'T SEE EVERYBODY ON THE SCREEN AT ONCE, SO SPEAK UP RAISING A HAND, I DON'T NECESSARILY SEE YOU. OK. OH, THANKS, CHERYL. NOW I CAN SEE EVERYBODY OK, I THINK WE'RE GOOD THANKS, LYDIA. SO MUCH, THAT WAS VERY HELPFUL, AS ALWAYS. SO THE THE NEXT ITEM ON THE AGENDA IS A SINGLE READING TO APPROVE RESOLUTION NUMBER 22-01 [11. NEW BUSINESS 8:05 pm] WHICH IS TO WAIVE UNCOLLECTED UNCOLLECTED FINES AND FEES. DO I HEAR A MOTION TO APPROVE? I'LL MOVE TO APPROVE. THANK YOU. IS THERE A SECOND? SECOND. THANK YOU, I'VE HEARD A MOTION TO APPROVE AND A SECOND. IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION? WELL, I THOUGHT THE FEES WERE INTERESTING, AND I WONDERED IF, LIKE, YOU KNOW, WE'VE GOT QUITE A FEW IN AND CHROMEBOOKS. IS THAT UNUSUAL, OR IS IT JUST AN OUTCOME OF THE PANDEMIC OR. ANY OTHER, ANY STAFF MEMBER WANT TO MAKE SOME COMMENTS ABOUT THAT. SO IT'S NOT RELATED TO THE PANDEMIC, BECAUSE THESE ARE STUDENTS WHO HAVE TURNED TWENTY ONE. OH OKAY. SO IT WOULD PROBABLY BE MUCH MORE CONSISTENT WITH PREVIOUS YEARS. UNFORTUNATELY, THERE'S, YOU KNOW, A STRONG POSSIBILITY THAT THESE FINES WILL INCREASE BECAUSE WE ARE PROVIDING MORE CHROMEBOOKS TO MORE STUDENTS. AND SO THAT IS SOMETHING THAT I THINK WILL DISCUSS AS A CABINET IF THERE'S MITIGATING STRATEGIES TO REDUCE THAT LOSS. OK. AND AND I'M. OH, HERE WE ARE. DID ARE THEY UNUSUAL? THAT WAS MY OTHER PIECE OF THE QUESTION. ARE THEY UNUSUAL FOR THIS YEAR VERSUS OTHER YEARS, YOU KNOW? NO, I DON'T BELIEVE SO. I BELIEVE THEY'RE PRETTY CONSISTENT. OK, THANK YOU. ANY OTHER COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS? I ACTUALLY I FOUND IT INTERESTING. AND TO BETTER UNDERSTAND IT THAT WHILE THESE COME FROM 2008, UNTIL NOW, IT'S AS OF THE POSTING OF THESE BECAUSE KIDS HAVE BECOME 21 AND ARE NO LONGER FINDABLE, BASICALLY. AND I THOUGHT THAT THE OVERALL NUMBER WHEN I DID IT AS A PERCENTAGE OF THE OVERALL BUDGET WAS A TINY, TINY PERCENTAGE. SO I THINK IN GENERAL, WE DO A PRETTY GOOD JOB OF COLLECTING FINES AND FEES. ANY OTHER COMMENTS, QUESTIONS? ALL RIGHT, ALISON, I'D LIKE TO CALL FOR A ROLL CALL VOTE. DIRECTOR SMITH. OH, SORRY, AYE. DIRECTOR NOBLE. DIRECTOR NOBLE. I'M SORRY, I WAS NOT UNMUTED WHEN I PRESSED THE SPACEBAR I ALREADY VOTED AYE. AND YOU JUST DIDN'T HEAR ME. DIRECTOR CHASE. AYE. DIRECTOR KILGORE. AYE. DIRECTOR KATIMS. AYE., I THINK ON ZOOM, WE HAVE LEARNED HOW TO READ LIPS SOMETIMES WHEN THAT HAPPENS. SO IT PASSES TO APPROVE RESOLUTION 21 TO WAIVE THE UNCOLLECTIBLE FINES AND FEES. NEXT ON THE AGENDA IS A SINGLE READING TO APPROVE TWO WOULD. BUT COMPLETED PUBLIC WORKS CONTRACT NUMBER 221-O3CP FOR EMERGENCY HVAC REPLACEMENT AT [01:00:07] BEVERLEY ELEMENTARY. IS THERE A MOTION TO APPROVE? SO MOVED. I SECOND. THANK YOU, I'VE HEARD A MOTION TO APPROVE AND A SECOND. IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION? I'D LIKE TO JUST SAY I'M THRILLED THAT THIS GOT DONE AT BEVERLY, THEY DESPERATELY NEEDED IT AND A YAY TO ALL OF THIS THAT HELPED MAKE THIS HAPPEN. SO HEARING NO OTHER COMMENTS. ALISON, I'LL CALL FOR A ROLL CALL, VOTE ON THIS. YOU'D THINK I'D KNOW HOW TO UNMUTE BY NOW. DIRECTOR SMITH. AYE. DIRECTOR NOBLE. AYE. DIRECTOR CHASE. AYE. DIRECTOR KILGORE. AYE. DIRECTOR KATIMS. AYE. AND THE MOTION PASSES TO APPROVE RESOLUTION 22-02. THERE ARE NO OTHER PUBLIC COMMENTS THAT PEOPLE WANTED TO MAKE, SO IT'S TIME FOR OUR BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS AND I'D LIKE TO START WITH OUR STUDENTS. [13. BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS] AND SO THANK SHARELLE FOR LETTING ME SEE THE FULL GALLERY VIEW. ISABELLE, WOULD YOU LIKE TO MAKE COMMENTS? YEAH, I JUST LIKE TO THANK EVERYONE FOR THE PRESENTATIONS AND ALL THE VERY VALUABLE INFORMATION, AND MY PEERS AND I AT MY SCHOOL ARE MY FRIENDS AND I. WE KNOW AND UNDERSTAND THAT THE A MOTION VARIANT IN COVID IS OBVIOUSLY SCARY. AND BUT WE ALSO KNOW THAT THE DISTRICT IS DOING EVERYTHING THEY CAN TO KEEP US SAFE AND ENSURE THAT WE ARE RECEIVING THE BEST EDUCATION POSSIBLE. AND I'D ALSO LIKE TO MENTION THAT SO TODAY OR THIS WEEK IS FINALS WEEK, AND I HAVE NOTICED THAT MY TEACHERS AT LEAST HAVE REALLY LIGHTEN THE LOAD LIKE I ONLY ACTUALLY HAVE TWO FINAL TESTS, WHICH IS REALLY NICE, ESPECIALLY SINCE A LOT OF OTHER STUDENTS HAVEN'T REALLY BEEN ABLE TO ATTEND SCHOOL THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS. YEAH, SO IT'S REALLY NICE KNOWING THAT THE TEACHERS HAVE ALSO ADAPTED TO MEET OUR NEEDS. BUT THANK YOU. THANK YOU, ISABEL. THAT WAS VERY HELPFUL, AS ALWAYS. RITIKA, WOULD YOU LIKE TO GO NEXT? SURE. SO, FIRST OF ALL, REGARDING A COMMENT PRESIDENT KATIMS MADE EARLIER, I KNOW THAT PART OF THE CONSENT AGENDA, IF I CAN TALK TODAY, HOW TO DO WITH FIELD TRIPS AND I WAS ACTUALLY JUST TALKING TO OUR ADVISOR TODAY. SO I DON'T KNOW WHO TO TALK TO ABOUT THIS. BUT IF I COULD GET A FOLLOW UP LATER ABOUT WHERE WE STAND ON THAT IN TERMS OF IF WE IF ON A, YOU KNOW, A DAY THAT WE WOULD NORMALLY DO A FIELD TRIP TO A HIGH SCHOOL FOR A STATE CONFERENCE LIKE WE NORMALLY WOULD, IF THAT'S EVEN A THING THAT CAN HAPPEN AND WHAT WE SHOULD BE DOING TO MAKE SURE THAT THAT'S APPROVED AND EVERYTHING LIKE THAT. SO GET A FOLLOW UP LATER THAT WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED IN TERMS OF SCHOOL AND COVID AND ALL THE THINGS I KNOW. IT'S BEEN A WILD COUPLE OF WEEKS. I WOULDN'T REALLY BE THE TRUE REPRESENTATION OF STUDENTS IF I DIDN'T TALK ABOUT THE WHOLE SICKOUT THING THAT WAS GOING ON. I KNOW THAT SOME STUDENTS HAVE FELT LIKE THE SCHOOL SHOULD BE OPEN OR WHATEVER, LIKE THEY FELT LIKE THE UNSAFE CONDITIONS. IN TERMS OF, I THINK THE MAIN THING THAT HAS COME UP HAS BEEN LIKE THE MASKS AND THE WE ALL KNOW THAT AFTER A WHILE, YOU KNOW, IT CAN GET DRAINING OR WHATEVER TO KEEP THE MASK ON. AND THAT'S BEEN LIKE THE MORE THAT WE GO AND GO INTO HAVING SCHOOL IN PERSON, THE MORE PEOPLE HAVE KIND OF BEEN COMPLACENT ABOUT THE MASKS. AND I WOULD JUST SAY THAT THOSE MASKS ARE THE REASON THAT WE CAN STAY OPEN. SO DEFINITELY URGING LIKE STUDENTS AND STAFF TO REALLY MAKE SURE THAT THAT'S STILL BEING MONITORED AND THAT, YOU KNOW, WE'RE STILL FOLLOWING THOSE MASK GUIDELINES BECAUSE THOSE ARE THE THAT'S THE REASON THAT WE'RE ABLE TO STAY OPEN IN TERMS OF THE DASHBOARD. I KNOW THE THE CONTACT TRACING CHANGING NOW. IT'S EVEN MORE CHALLENGING IN TERMS OF JUST KEEPING IT UP TO DATE, ALTHOUGH I KNOW THAT AT LEAST AT OUR SCHOOL LEVEL, WE HAVE PRINCIPALS ARE SENDING OUT THE NUMBERS OF STAFF ANYWAY IN TERMS OF STUDENT STAFF UPDATES AND IN THIS SITUATION, AS ANY SITUATION OVER COMMUNICATING IS BETTER THAN UNDER COMMUNICATING. SO IF THERE IS A WAY TO SAY, OK, THIS IS THE NUMBERS THAT WE HAVE RIGHT NOW, GIVEN THAT WE KNOW THOSE NUMBERS ARE NOT FOR SURE UNTIL THE INVESTIGATIONS HAVE BEEN, ALL HAVE ALL [01:05:01] GONE THROUGH BECAUSE I THINK THAT MAKES THE THAT DEFINITELY BRINGS THE NUMBERS UP SIGNIFICANTLY BECAUSE I KNOW, LIKE, ESPECIALLY IN SMALLER CLASSES, IT'S REALLY BEEN THE ABSENCES HAVE REALLY BEEN OBVIOUS, BUT THAT'S KIND OF WHAT I HAVE. I'M REALLY I AM REALLY GRATEFUL TO STILL BE IN PERSON. I KNOW THAT ONLINE SCHOOL IS A NIGHTMARE IN AND OF ITSELF FOR TEACHERS AND FOR STUDENTS, AND I DEFINITELY AM SO GRATEFUL THAT WE HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE IN PERSON AND REALLY BE GETTING THE EDUCATION THAT WE HAVE AND JUST SUCH AN AMAZING THING THAT TEACHERS HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DO. JUST GOING WITH WHAT'S GOING ON, GOING WITH THE FLOW AND STILL MAKING IT SO RELIABLE AND CONSISTENT FOR THE STUDENTS, NO MATTER WHAT. THANK YOU, RITIKA, REGARDING THE FIELD TRIPS, IT'S MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THE BOARD IS APPROVING THESE NOW BECAUSE WE HAVE TO APPROVE THEM WITHIN A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF TIME. BUT THAT DECISIONS MAY BE MADE LATER DEPENDING ON WHAT'S HAPPENING IN TERMS OF THE COVID. AND I'M SURE WHEN DR. BALDERAS MAKES HIS COMMENTS, HE HE'LL JUMP IN AS WELL. BUT THAT THAT SORT OF THEY'RE THE FIRST ONE IN IN THIS CONSENT AGENDA WOULD BE AT THE END OF FEBRUARY, AND THEN THE REST ARE IN MARCH AND APRIL. SO WE JUST ASK WE JUST PUT THOSE REQUESTS IN RIGHT NOW, THEN IS THAT WHAT? RIGHT? SO THEY'RE IN AN APPROVED SORT OF CONDITIONALLY THAT IT'S HEALTH WISE, OK? BUT I WILL LET DR. BALDERAS JUMP IN FOR HIS COMMENT. THANK YOU. OK, BELLA, WOULD YOU LIKE TO GO NEXT? YEAH, SURE. I'D JUST LIKE TO START BY THANKING EVERYONE FOR THEIR PRESENTATIONS AND ALL. AND YEAH, SO I JUST HAVE SOME. LIKE. THANKS, FELLOW CLASSMATES AND STUFF HAVE BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION AND STUFF LIKE THAT. ONE OF THE FIRST THINGS LIKE SOMEONE ASKED ME OR WAS LIKE TALKING ABOUT IS LIKE. LIKE, WHY HAVEN'T WE BEEN SHUT DOWN IF THERE'S BEEN SO MANY CASES AND STUFF LIKE THAT AND BLAH BLAH BLAH? LIKE WHY LIKE WHY ARE WE STILL IN THE CLASSROOMS IF THERE'S ONLY LIKE 10 OF US OUT OF 30 OF US IN THERE BECAUSE THEY'RE SO SMALL AND STUFF NOW THAT THERE'S THIS MANY STUDENTS MISSING, WHY ARE WE? NOT LIKE ONLINE AND STUFF LIKE THAT, THAT'S WHAT STUDENTS ARE ASKING, AND I MEAN, PERSONALLY, I DON'T WANT TO GO BACK ONLINE BECAUSE WE ALL KNOW. I MEAN, I PERSONALLY, I DISLIKED IT VERY MUCH, BUT THAT IS A QUESTION THAT I'VE HEARD MULTIPLE TIMES FROM DIFFERENT STUDENTS AND SUCH LIKE. OF WHY ARE WE STILL HERE IF THERE ARE SO MANY OF US MISSING, LIKE IT'S UNSAFE AND STUFF LIKE THAT WITH ALL THESE CASES? AND THEN ANOTHER THING IS IT'S. MORE DIRECTED TOWARDS THE PROGRAM I'M IN AND STUFF LIKE THAT, WHICH IS THEATER AND IT'S LIKE. SO LIKE, THIS WAS A WHILE BACK, BUT LIKE WHEN I PLANNED AN OPEN MIC, THAT IS WE WERE GOING TO BE REALLY SAFE ABOUT IT, LIKE ALL SPREAD OUT AND THERE'S ONLY ONE PERSON AT THE MIC AT A TIME AND STUFF LIKE THAT. IT'S REALLY SAFE, COVID FRIENDLY, BUT WE WEREN'T ALLOWED TO DO THAT. YET SPORTS, WHO ARE VERY CLOSE CONTACT, GOT TO DO THEIR STUFF, AND THAT'S STILL GOING ON AND LIKE, WE KEEP TALKING ABOUT THIS IN THE ARTS AND STUFF LIKE. HOW COME, LIKE, WE ARE VERY LESS CLOSE CONTACT AND STUFF, THAN SPORTS, GET SPORTS, GET TO DO ALL THESE THINGS, NO MATTER WHAT AND OUR PERFORMANCES, KEEP GETTING CANCELED AND PUSHED BACK AND JUST LIKE LIKE THEY DON'T MATTER AS MUCH AS SPORTS DO WHEN THAT'S NOT TRUE BECAUSE THESE PERFORMANCES GIVE STUDENTS A RIGHT TO EXPRESS THEMSELVES IN A WAY NO OTHER PROGRAM LETS THEM. AND LIKE, WE JUST KEEP ASKING OURSELVES, WHY DO SPORTS STILL GET TO DO THEIR THINGS? BUT WE CAN'T DO OURS WHEN WHEN OURS, IT JUST SEEMS LIKE WE LIKE PERFORMERS, WHETHER THEY'RE IN BAND IN THEATER, WANT TO DO AN OPEN MIC AND DO POETRY. IT SEEMS LIKE THOSE ARE THE KINDS OF PROGRAMS AND CLUBS AND STUFF GETTING MORE RESTRICTIONS THAN SPORTS AND LIKE A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE JUST TALKING ABOUT LIKE. HOW COME WE DON'T GET TO DO THIS, BUT THESE PEOPLE WHO LITERALLY GET TO BE UP IN EACH OTHER'S GRILLS, ON A BASKETBALL COURT, ON A FOOTBALL FIELD AND A WRESTLING MAT. THEY GET TO STILL DO THEIR THING. AND THAT'S JUST A COUPLE OF MY MAIN THINGS I'VE HAD FROM FELLOW CLASSMATES. [01:10:05] THANK YOU, BELLA. I PARTICULARLY APPRECIATE IT, AND I KNOW THE REST OF THE BOARD DOES, YOU'RE BRINGING NOT ONLY YOUR PERSPECTIVE, BUT THE PERSPECTIVE OF YOUR PEERS AND THAT YOU LISTEN TO THE OTHER PEOPLE AROUND, YOU KNOW, THE OTHER KIDS AND BRING THAT AS WELL. AND I'M PRETTY SURE THAT DR. BALDERAS WILL ALSO BE TALKING ABOUT THE PERFORMING ARTS VERSUS ATHLETICS ISSUE IN HIS COMMENTS. I'M PUTTING ALL THIS ON HIS COMMENTS, BUT I KNOW HIM PRETTY WELL TO KNOW HE'S GOING TO DO THAT. SO THANK YOU, LEAH. WOULD YOU LIKE TO GO NEXT? YES, SURE. SO I WOULD LIKE TO THANK EVERYONE FOR THE PRESENTATIONS, IN PARTICULAR THE TEACHER, I BELIEVE IT WAS FROM COLLEGE, PLEASE. I WAS REALLY THANKFUL FOR HER COMMENTS FOR BRINGING IN THAT PERSPECTIVE OF HOW COVID HAS AFFECTED THEIR SCHOOL AND BEING COMPLETELY HONEST AND REAL OF THEIR SITUATION OVER THERE. AND I BELIEVE THAT THAT'S VERY SIMILAR TO MANY OTHER SCHOOLS AROUND THE DISTRICT. SO, YEAH, AND I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO THANK EVERYBODY FOR THE UPDATES ON COVID. THERE'S BEEN LOTS OF QUESTIONS ONCE AGAIN, AND A LOT OF THEM WERE ANSWERED TODAY. SO THANK YOU. THANK YOU, LEAH. THAT WAS VERY HELPFUL, AND I THINK THAT'S ALL THE STUDENTS WHO ARE HERE AND I REALLY WANT TO THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE, PARTICULARLY AS WE'RE NEARING FINALS AND THAT KIND OF THING. SO IN TERMS OF BOARD DIRECTORS, DIRECTOR SMITH, WOULD YOU LIKE TO OFFER SOME COMMENTS TONIGHT? I WOULD. SO I WANT TO THANK EVERYONE WHO HAD A CHANCE TO SPEAK TODAY. I JUST WANTED TO TAKE A CHANCE TO SAY I FEEL A LOT OF THE FRUSTRATION THAT'S OUT HERE. AS AN EDUCATOR MYSELF, I UNDERSTAND WHAT I HEAR TEACHERS TALK ABOUT LOSING PLANNING TIME BECAUSE THEY'RE SHORT STAFFED. THAT HAPPENS A LOT IN THE FALL SCHOOL DISTRICT, [INAUDIBLE], I'M SURE, IN OTHER DISTRICTS IN THE STATE. AND WHEN I HEAR TEACHERS TALK ABOUT FEELING OVERWHELMED OR STUDENTS FEELING LIKE THEY'RE STUCK IN THESE CLASSES WHERE A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE OUT AND HOW IS THIS SAFE, HOW IS IT NOT SAFE? I REALLY EMPATHIZE WITH ALL OF THAT. THIS FEELS LIKE A VERY OUT OF CONTROL TIME, AND I DON'T THINK OUR PUBLIC HEALTH AUTHORITIES HAVE DONE A GREAT JOB COMMUNICATING WHY THINGS ARE CHANGING. YOU KNOW, HOW MANY WEEKS AGO WAS IT THAT IT WAS 10 DAYS IN A NEGATIVE TEST? NOW IT'S FIVE DAYS AND NO TEST REQUIRED? AND IF YOU REALLY DIG INTO IT, THE DATA DOES SUPPORT THEIR DECISIONS. THEY ARE LOOKING AT IT WITH THE WITH THE DATA ON THEIR SIDE, AND THEY'RE TRYING TO MAKE THE BEST CHOICES FOR US. THEY'RE JUST NOT GOOD, THE PUBLIC RELATIONS SIDE. AND THAT CAUSES A LOT OF HEADACHES FOR ALL OF US. AND I KNOW I CAN'T SPEAK FOR MY COLLEAGUES ON THE BOARD, BUT I FEEL LIKE THEY WOULD PROBABLY SAY THIS AS WELL. ALL OF US ARE TRYING OUR BEST TO LOOK AT THAT DATA AND FOLLOW WHAT THE EXPERTS ARE TELLING US AND MAKE THE DECISIONS THAT ARE GOING TO KEEP OUR STUDENTS AND STAFF THE SAFEST THAT THEY CAN BE. SO, YOU KNOW, TO A CERTAIN EXTENT, I KNOW FOR MYSELF I HAVE TO TRUST THE EXPERTS ARE LOOKING AT THAT DATA AND ARE MAKING THOSE DECISIONS, EVEN IF IT DOESN'T ALWAYS MAKE LOGICAL SENSE BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE ACCESS TO ALL OF THAT STUFF, BUT JUST KNOW THAT I AM SOMEONE THAT I'M SURE MY COLLEAGUES ARE AS WELL WHO WILL BE LOOKING AT ALL OF THAT DATA TOO. AND ASKING THOSE QUESTIONS AND MAKING SURE THAT WE ARE DOING OUR BEST TO MAKE THE DECISION IS GOING TO KEEP EVERYBODY SAFE AND HEALTHY. SO THANK YOU. THANK YOU, DIRECTOR SMITH, AND I WANT TO PARTICULARLY NOTE HOW GREAT IT IS TO HAVE A TEACHER'S PERSPECTIVE ON THE BOARD, SO IT'S VERY HELPFUL AND THAT YOU HAVE TO NOW SEE IT FROM BOTH THE TEACHER SIDE AND THE BOARD SIDE. BUT THAT REALLY BROADENS THE INPUT THAT WE GET. AND SO WE APPRECIATE THAT. THANK YOU SO MUCH. DIRECTOR NOBLE. YEAH, I GUESS FIRST, I WOULD JUST LIKE TO THANK THE STAFF AROUND THE DISTRICT HOW SEEMINGLY FROM THE OUTSIDE, AT LEAST WITHOUT LOOKING IN FOR THE SPECIFICS THAT THEY'RE ABLE TO SWITCH BETWEEN A CLASSROOM, BEING ONLINE AND BEING IN PERSON OR AN ENTIRE SCHOOL BEING ONLINE AND IN PERSON. IT'S REALLY AN INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT TRANSITION AND BUT IT'S HAPPENING AND THE STAFF AND STUDENTS ARE MAKING IT WORK SOMEHOW. I JUST AMAZED THAT IT IS EVEN POSSIBLE. SO THANKS FOR THE FLEXIBILITY TO EVERYONE THAT HAS ALLOWS THAT TO HAPPEN AND KEEP OUR STUDENTS SAFE. I'D LIKE TO THANK YOU, BELA, FOR YOUR COMMENTS ON THE ARTS. I WAS IN THEATER WHEN I WAS IN SCHOOL AND I WOULD HAVE BEEN EXACTLY AS FRUSTRATED AS YOU WHERE YOU ARE RIGHT NOW. AND I ACTUALLY DON'T KNOW THE TOTAL ANSWER TO YOUR QUESTION, BUT I CERTAINLY UNDERSTAND [01:15:03] YOUR FRUSTRATION. AND MY LAST COMMENT IS ABOUT THAT COME OUT REALLY SOON FOR OPERATIONS LEVY FOR OUR DISTRICT AND I URGE EVERYBODY TO GO OUT AND VOTE. THANK YOU. THANK YOU, DIRECTOR NOBLE, DIRECTOR, CHASE. THANK YOU, PRESIDENT KATIMS. AND I JUST DO ECHO THE APPRECIATION OF ALL THE EDUCATORS THAT ARE SERVING THE STUDENTS IN THE DISTRICT IN THIS, THIS SUCH A DIFFICULT TIME AND IT'S GREATLY APPRECIATED AND YOUR RESILIENCY IS INSPIRING AND I REALLY APPRECIATE THE UPDATES THAT WE'RE GETTING AND THE STUDENT PERSPECTIVE. AND IN THIS BUSY TIME, WE ALSO HAVE A LEGISLATIVE SESSION THAT IS VERY SHORT THAT'S GOING ON RIGHT NOW AND WE HAVE, WHILE STILL STRUGGLING WITH DEALING WITH THE CHALLENGES OF COVID. DR. BALDERAS AND A NUMBER OF STAFF HAVE BEEN ABLE TO JOIN IN MEETING WITH A FEW OF OUR LEGISLATORS. WE WERE ABLE TO MEET WITH THREE OF THEM BEFORE THIS LAST WEEK TO SHARE SOME OF THE PRIORITIES OF THE DISTRICT AND DISCUSS SOME OF THE BROAD CATEGORIES, WHICH KIND OF INCLUDE STAFFING, ALLOCATION, TRANSPORTATION AND BUDGET STABILITY, WHICH KIND OF WHICH ALIGNS WITH THE STATE. WASHINGTON STATE SCHOOL DIRECTORS ASSOCIATION LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES. WE ALSO ABLE TO MEET WITH SOME REPRESENTATIVES FROM SENATOR CANTWELL'S OFFICE AND AND CONGRESSWOMAN SHRIVER'S OFFICE EARLIER TODAY. ONE OF THE THINGS THAT'S COMING UP IS THE LEGISLATIVE CONFERENCE THIS COMING SUNDAY, AND ALONG WITH THAT IS WOULD BE THE WEEK IN THE HILL WHERE WE IN THE PAST WOULD BE GOING DOWN TO OLYMPIA AND MEETING LEGISLATORS IN THEIR OFFICES. IT'S ALL, OF COURSE, VIRTUAL THIS YEAR. AND I'M ESPECIALLY TO THE STUDENTS. THERE'S AN OPPORTUNITY FOR STUDENTS TO MEET WITH THE GOVERNOR, THE LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR AND THE SECRETARY OF STATE ON YOUR OWN AS STUDENT REPRESENTATIVES. AND I WOULD URGE I'M GOING TO SEND THE LINK AGAIN, OUR STUDENT REPRESENTATIVES TO SIGN UP. YOU DON'T NEED TO GO THROUGH THE BOARD. YOU DON'T NEED TO GO THROUGH ME. YOU SIGN UP YOURSELVES ON THIS LINK ON THE WADJDA WEBSITE AND HAVE A STUDENT ONLY INTERACTION. AND I THINK THAT THE QUALITY OF THE COMMENTS THAT YOU PRESENT AT THE BOARD MEETINGS, I THINK YOU SHOULD BUMP IT UP AND TAKE IT TO THE GOVERNOR. AND SO THAT'S MY PITCH, AND I'M GOING TO FOLLOWED UP WITH ANOTHER EMAIL TO ALL YOU STUDENTS. AND THEN WE ALSO HAVE WITH THE WEEK IN THE HILL MEETINGS WITH OUR REPRESENTATIVES SCHEDULED THE NINE OF THEM WITH THE STATEWIDE WSSDA FOLKS. AND I'M ENCOURAGING EVERYONE TO TAKE A LOOK AT THE WSSDA WEBSITE AGAIN TO SEE WHEN THEY'RE SCHEDULED. IT'S GOING FAST AND FURIOUS AND NOT EVERYTHING'S ON THE BOOKS YET, BUT THEY START ON MONDAY AND WE'LL BE ABLE TO GET SOME UPDATES TODAY. WELL, WE'LL BE ABLE TO, YOU KNOW, CONTINUE DEVELOPING RELATIONSHIPS AND TALKING ABOUT SOME OF THE IMPACTS THAT THIS LEGISLATION IS HAVING ON OUR DISTRICT. I DO WANT TO MENTION, TOO, THERE'S ONE PARTICULAR BILL THAT'S ENHANCING STAFFING ALLOCATIONS. IT'S SENATE BILL FIFTY FIVE POINT NINETY FIVE, AND IT DOES A NEW CATEGORY CALLED PHYSICAL, SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL SUPPORT STAFF. AND THE FOLLOWING POSITIONS INCLUDED IN THE NEW GROUPING ARE SCHOOL NURSES, SOCIAL WORKERS, PSYCHOLOGISTS, GUIDANCE COUNSELORS, CLASSIFIED STAFF PROVIDING STUDENT AND STAFF SAFETY AND PARENT INVOLVEMENT COORDINATORS IS MOVING ALONG IN THE HOUSE. IT WAS PASSED OUT OF EXECUTIVE SESSION TODAY AND IS MOVING ALONG IN THE PROCESS IN WAYS AND MEANS. SO THIS IS A PARTICULAR BILL THAT I'M JUST HIGHLIGHTING THAT WE'RE KEEPING TRACK OF. WE HAVE A BILL TRACKING OF ABOUT CLOSE TO 100 BILLS THAT WE HAVE A TRACKING SPREADSHEET ON THAT'S ALSO AVAILABLE FOR EVERYONE TO TAKE A LOOK AT, AND I WOULD BE HAPPY TO FORWARD ANY INFORMATION ABOUT ANY OTHER PARTICULAR BILLS THAT WE HAVE COMING UP. AND ALSO IN THE LET'S SEE WHAT THE SCHEDULE FOR TOMORROW. THERE'S A NUMBER OF WORK SESSIONS THE REST OF THE WEEK, SO NOT AS MANY PUBLIC HEARINGS RIGHT AT THE MOMENT, BUT THIS IS MY UPDATE. THANK YOU, DIRECTOR CHASE, I HAVE A QUICK QUESTION. DO YOU HAVE A SUGGESTION FOR WAYS THAT WE CAN SHOW SUPPORT FOR THIS SENATE BILL, FIFTY FIVE POINT NINETY FIVE? BECAUSE THESE STAFFING ALLOCATIONS ARE REALLY IMPORTANT. IT'S IN WAYS AND MEANS RIGHT NOW. SO SO WHAT WE'RE WHAT WE'RE DOING RIGHT NOW IS WE'RE MEETING WITH OUR REPRESENTATIVES AND NOT ONLY AS A REPRESENTATIVE OF EDMONDS, BUT AS A DISTRICT AREA ONE LEGISLATIVE REP WITH [01:20:07] WSSDA. THIS BILL ALIGNS WITH WSSDA PRIORITIES, SO ALL THE SCHOOL DISTRICTS AROUND THE STATE ARE MEETING AND BRINGING UP THIS PARTICULAR BILL IN ALL OF THEIR CONSTITUENCY MEETINGS. ALSO CHECKING ON THE LEGISLATIVE WEBSITE THE BILL TRACKER. YOU CAN SIGN INTO COMMENT WHEN IT GOES TO HEARINGS. PERFECT. AND THANK YOU FOR BEING ON TOP OF ALL THIS AND BEING OUR REPRESENTATIVE NOT ONLY FOR US, BUT ALSO AS DISTRICT ONE REP NOW. RIGHT. SO WE REALLY APPRECIATE ALL THE WORK THAT YOU'RE DOING FOR US AND KEEPING US LIKE ON TOP OF IT, BECAUSE THERE'S A LOT OF INTERESTING THINGS GOING ON AT THAT LEVEL AND WE GET THE IMPACT OF IT. THERE'S A, YES, A LOT OF MOVEMENT GOING ON. THANKS AGAIN. AND DIRECTOR KILGORE. WELL, THANK YOU, DIRECTOR KATIMS. I JUST WANT TO THANK OUR TEACHERS AND STAFF, IN PARTICULAR IN THE SCHOOLS WHO ARE HELPING OUR KIDS STAY IN THE BUILDINGS. THAT IS TO ME. JUST A VERY HIGH PRIORITY TO KEEP THE KIDS IN THE BUILDINGS. I REALLY DON'T KNOW TOO MANY KIDS WHO DO BETTER ONLINE. I KNOW SOME DO, BUT THE VAST MAJORITY ARE DOING BETTER TO BE IN THE SCHOOL BUILDING AND IT'S VERY IMPORTANT TO ME FOR THE DISTRICT AS WELL AS PERSONALLY. SO I REALLY APPRECIATE. I THINK SOMEONE MENTIONED THE TEACHERS ARE ADAPTING. SHOUT OUT TO THE TEACHERS FOR ADAPTING, FOR BEING FLEXIBLE, YOU KNOW, AND AND HELPING THE KIDS BE SUCCESSFUL. AND I JUST I I ALSO I KNOW THAT WE ARE IN A REALLY TOUGH TIME AND IT LOOKS LIKE WE'RE GOING TO BE DEALING WITH HIGH LEVELS OF ABSENCE FOR THE NEXT WEEK OR TWO. MAYBE MAYBE IF ANOTHER TWO OR THREE WEEKS. BUT WE'LL GET THROUGH IT. AND AND I JUST I PROMISE I WON'T ASK FOR TOO MUCH BETWEEN NOW AND NEXT MONTH, BUT THINK OF THE PARENTS. I WOULD, YOU KNOW, AS SOON AS WE COME UP FOR AIR, I'D LIKE TO SEE US BRAINSTORM WAYS TO GET THE PARENTS BACK IN THE BUILDINGS AND GET THE PARENTS BACK IN THE LOOP WITH OUR DISTRICT. SO THANK YOU. THANK YOU. SO I HAVE NOT TOO MANY COMMENTS. I NOT ONLY WANT TO THANK EVERYBODY WHO'S GIVEN REPORTS AND ALL THE STAFF DOING ALL THE WORK, BUT THEY'RE ALSO TWO PEOPLE WHO HELP US DO THE BOARD MEETINGS THAT ARE SORT OF UNSEEN AND UNSUNG HEROES. AND THAT'S ALISON KAUFMAN, WHO ALL THE AGENDAS, ALL THE MINUTES, ALL THE HELP FOR DR. BALDERAS AS HIS ASSISTANT JUST IS A ROCK STAR IN HELPING US AS A BOARD AND THE DISTRICT AND THE OTHER IS CHERELLE WILLIAMS, WHO IS OUR TECH SUPPORT HERE AND IS THE ONE WHO KEEPS EVERYTHING GOING IN TERMS OF THESE ZOOM MEETINGS. AND I JUST I WANT TO SAY THANK YOU BECAUSE THEY'RE IN THE BACKGROUND AND THEY'RE REALLY IMPORTANT TO THE WORK THAT WE DO. I ALSO I HEARD AN INTERESTING PHRASE OR I READ AN INTERESTING PHRASE IN THE NEWSPAPER ABOUT HEALTH WORKERS THAT THEY'RE DEALING WITH WHAT THEY'RE CALLING COMPASSION FATIGUE. AND I THOUGHT THAT WAS A REALLY INTERESTING TERM. THE INTERESTING THING AND WONDERFUL THING ABOUT EDUCATORS IS WHILE EDUCATORS ARE DEFINITELY DEALING WITH FATIGUE NOW, NO DOUBT, AND OUR LEADERS ARE DEFINITELY DEALING WITH FATIGUE. I DON'T THINK ANY OF US AS EDUCATORS LOSE COMPASSION FOR THE KIDS, AND THAT'S CERTAINLY TRUE OF WHAT'S GOING ON IN CLASSROOMS AND IN SCHOOLS. SO I JUST REALLY WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE AND SHOW APPRECIATION FOR THE FACT THAT DESPITE ALL THE FATIGUE THAT EVERYBODY FEELS WITH WHAT'S GOING ON, THE COMPASSION FOR THE KIDS FOR WHOM IT MATTERS, IT STAYS HIGH IF, IF NOT EVEN HIGHER THAN IN NORMAL TIMES. AND I ALSO WANT TO ECHO DIRECTOR NOBLE'S COMMENT PLEASE EVERYBODY VOTE BY FEBRUARY 8TH. THE ONLY THING ON THE BALLOT IS OUR SCHOOL LEVY, AND IT'S IMPORTANT THAT EVERYBODY VOTES. AND I'M GOING TO TURN IT OVER TO DR. BALDERAS FOR HIS COMMENTS. THANK YOU. AND I'LL JUST BE QUICK TO MY REMARKS AS WELL. JUST TO FOLLOW UP ON DIRECTOR KATIMS YOUR YOUR REFERENCES FOR FOR FIELD TRIPS. JUST WORK WITH YOUR BUILDING PRINCIPAL IN TERMS OF TRYING TO AND YOUR ADVISER AND SUBMIT [01:25:01] THOSE AND WE AND THOSE GOOD SUBMITTED TO GREG SCHWAB'S OFFICE, THE DISTRICT OFFICE FOR APPROVAL AND THEN GET PUT ON THE SCHOOL BOARD AGENDA FOR APPROVAL AS WELL. AND AGAIN, AS DIRECTOR KATIMS MENTIONED, WE ARE LOOKING AT NUMBERS AND HOPEFULLY WE CAN MOVE FORWARD WITH ALL THE FIELD TRIPS POSSIBLE. THAT'S THE GOAL. ALL THE FIELD TRIPS GOING FORWARD, THE SICKOUT, I KNOW THAT WAS ALSO DISCUSSED. THAT HAPPENED LAST FRIDAY, WE ACTUALLY HAD BETTER ATTENDANCE AT THREE OUT OF THE FOUR HIGH SCHOOLS LAST FRIDAY, SO IT AGAIN, IT'S DON'T KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS OTHER THAN WE HAD BETTER ATTENDANCE LAST FRIDAY, EXCEPT FOR ONE HIGH SCHOOL, LINWOOD, THAT HAD BEEN STRUGGLING WITH ATTENDANCE FOR THE WEEK. SO I KNOW THERE'S ANOTHER EVENT PLANNED, POSSIBLY. AND AGAIN, I URGE STUDENTS JUST TO HANG TIGHT HAS BEEN MENTIONED BEFORE HIS GET THROUGH THIS. THIS IS FINALS WEEK AS WELL, BUT WE WILL GET THROUGH THIS SPORTS VERSUS ARTS. THAT'S SOMETHING THAT'S BEEN IN EDUCATION FOR 32 YEARS. IT'S NOT SPORTS VERSUS ARTS FOR US. IT'S LOOKING AT WHAT WE CAN DO WITHIN OUR WITH OUR SPAN OF CONTROL, OUR SPAN OF CONTROL IS THE EDMONDS SCHOOL DISTRICT, ANYTHING HAPPENING WITHIN THE EDMONDS SCHOOL DISTRICT. WE TRY AND CONTROL IT THEN. THAT INVOLVES OUTSIDE OF THE EDMONDS SCHOOL DISTRICT, WHICH IS WIAA, INCLUDING PERFORMANCES. SO WE ALLOWED PERFORMANCES TO OCCUR, COMPETITIONS TO OCCUR. THERE ARE WIAA SPONSORED, OF COURSE, IS ALSO ATHLETICS WITH THAT. SO THOSE WERE NOT CANCELED. BUT ANYTHING WITH WITHIN OUR CONTROL FOR A WEEK, WE PUT A PAUSE FOR ONE WEEK AT THE HIGH SCHOOL. WE PUT A PAUSE AT TRYING TO DETERMINE WHAT WE CAN DO WITH WIAA. WE REMOVE THAT PAUSE AND ALLOWED ACTIVITIES TO CONTINUE. SO ALL THOSE THINGS AT ARE SCHOOL SPECIFIC, IF SOMETHING'S GOING ON AT THE SPECIFIC HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS NEED TO CONTACT THEIR PRINCIPAL. BUT WE LIFTED THE PAUSE THIS PAST WEEK. SO THOSE PERFORMANCES ARE MOVING FORWARD TO MY KNOWLEDGE, SO THAT THERE IS SOMETHING THAT I'M MISSING AS STUDENTS TO WORK WITH THEIR PRINCIPAL, THEN WORK WITH MR. SCHWAB AT THE DISTRICT OFFICE. BUT IT WAS A ONE WEEK PAUSE BECAUSE IT WAS SUCH A HIGH SPIKE, SUCH A HIGH SPIKE WITH THE VARIANT. SO. NEXT, I REALLY WANT TO THANK THE SCHOOL FOUNDATION FOR EDMONDS SCHOOLS THERE, AND REALLY JUST THEY'RE PROVIDING SOME SOME FOOD FOR SOME OF OUR STAFF AND ESPECIALLY WANT TO THANK WHAT HAPPENED HERE SOMEWHERE. IT'S A. SCHUBERT, WHOLE. IN TERMS OF THE EXECUTIVE CHEF FOR BILL AND HIS CREW TO THAT ARE PROVIDING SOME MEALS FOR SOME OF OUR STAFF. SO JUST TRY AND SUPPORT PEOPLE THAT ARE WORKING A LOT OF HOURS SO PEOPLE CAN ORDER. SOME OF THE STAFF WERE ABLE TO ORDER SOME MEALS ONLINE AND PICK THEM UP DOWNTOWN EDMONDS. SO I DON'T KNOW. THE FOUNDATION AND MR. HOWE WHO HAS BEEN VERY SUPPORTIVE OF OUR SCHOOLS, SITS ON OUR FOUNDATION BOARD AS WELL AND JUST WANT TO KUDOS TO DEB, BRANDI AND THE WHOLE CREW FOR SUPPORTING THE STAFF IN THAT WAY. AS MENTIONED, ELECTION IS COMING. THE LEVY IS ON THE ELECTION. WE, AS SCHOOL STAFF, CANNOT PROMOTE EITHER PRO OR CON, AND I WON'T BUY JUST AS THE BOARD HAS STATED. JUST VOTE, JUST PLEASE VOTE. IT'S ALL SO I'M SAYING. PLEASE VOTE THE WAY YOU VOTE, IT'S UP TO YOU, BUT PLEASE VOTE. PART OF OUR DEMOCRACY AND MAKES AMERICA WHAT IT IS, MAKES AMERICA A GREAT COUNTRY AND ALSO WANT TO, IF I COULD. DIRECTOR KATIMS GOING TO GIVE SOME TIME TO DANA TO MAKE A LITTLE CORRECTION THAT WAS HAD DURING THE PRESENTATION, I COULD. OF COURSE, THANK YOU. YES, THANK YOU. I APOLOGIZE, I MISSPOKE WHEN THE QUESTION AROUND UNVACCINATED STUDENTS AND STAFF. THE GUIDANCE DID CHANGE ON JANUARY 18TH. SO IF YOU ARE AN UNVACCINATED STUDENT OR STAFF, YOU CAN RETURN ON DAY SIX IF YOU HAVE A NEGATIVE TEST RESULT AFTER DAY FIVE. IF THERE'S NO NEGATIVE TEST RESULT AND YOU'RE AND YOU HAVE NO SYMPTOMS, IF YOU DON'T HAVE A NEGATIVE TEST RESULT, THAT 10 DAY QUARANTINE STILL STAYS IN EFFECT. SO THE BIG CHANGE IS ON THE 18TH, WHERE YOU DON'T HAVE TO TEST IF YOU'RE COVID POSITIVE TO COME BACK AS LONG AS YOU DON'T HAVE SYMPTOMS, NO FEVER. ALL OF THOSE THINGS THAT WAS THAT WAS THE REALLY BIG ONE. NO TESTING NECESSARY. AND IF YOU'RE A CLOSE CONTACT, YOU CAN RETURN WITH A NEGATIVE TEST RESULT ON DAY SIX AND THE TEST HAS TO BE TAKEN FIVE OR LATER. AND THEN YOU HAVE TO MONITOR FOR SYMPTOMS. YOU OBVIOUSLY HAVE TO BE, WELL, MASKED AND ALL LIKE, WELL, LIKE WE ALWAYS ARE AND ALL OF THOSE THINGS SO THAT I MISSPOKE ABOUT THAT AND I WANTED TO CORRECT THAT BECAUSE THAT DID JUST COME OUT. WE HAD GUIDANCE ON JANUARY 11TH AND THEN WE HAD NEW GUIDANCE ON JANUARY [01:30:03] 18TH. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. DR. BALDERAS, DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING ELSE YOU WANT TO ADD? I JUST THANK YOU THIS HOW QUICKLY THIS IS MOVING. SO AGAIN, 11TH TO THE 18TH NEW GUIDANCE. AND SO THIS IS A HAPPENING REALLY FAST, I THINK AGAIN. I JUST ASKED FOR PATIENCE AND GRACE FROM PEOPLE BECAUSE WE'RE DOING THE BEST WE CAN TO COMMUNICATE. IT SEEMS LIKE WE COMMUNICATE ONE WEEK AND LITERALLY THE VERY NEXT WEEK. IT'S A DIFFERENT COMMUNICATION. SO IT'S CAUSING ANGST AMONG STAFF THEMSELVES. SO THANK YOU. DIRECTOR KATIMS, THAT'S ALL WITH MY COMMENTS. THANK YOU, DANA. THANK YOU. THE LAST THING ON THE AGENDA IS FOR THE BOARD TO BRING UP ANY ITEMS THAT YOU'D LIKE TO CONSIDER FOR US TO CONSIDER AT FUTURE BOARD MEETINGS. I LIKE TO GIVE A LOT OF WAIT TIME A TEACHER. THAT'S RIGHT, THAT'S WHAT I LEARNED. WAIT, TIME IS REALLY IMPORTANT. WELL, IF THEY COME UP. GO AHEAD. JUST TO CONTINUE THAT, WE'LL JUST HAVE MAKE SURE WE'RE MAKING SPACE FOR LEGISLATIVE UPDATES AS THINGS ARE GOING TO START MOVING EVEN FASTER IN THIS SHORT SESSION. DEFINITELY. AND IF YOU'RE GOOD WITH IT, WE CAN LET THAT BE PART OF YOUR COMMENTS. IF YOU WANT IT TO BE PART OF THE AN ITEM, YOU KNOW, AS A SEPARATE, JUST LET US KNOW AND WE'LL GET THAT ON THE AGENDA AS A SEPARATE SORT OF PLACE. THANK YOU. HEARING NO OTHER INPUT ON THAT, I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THIS MEETING IS ADJOURNED AND THANK YOU TO EVERYBODY. GOOD NIGHT. * This transcript was compiled from uncorrected Closed Captioning.
