OK, THIS REGULAR BUSINESS MEETING OF THE EDMONDS SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD OF DIRECTORS FOR [1. CALL TO ORDER-6:30 pm] [00:00:07] OCTOBER 26, 2021 IS CALLED TO ORDER. DR. BALDERAS, WOULD YOU PLEASE SAY THE LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT FOR US? [3. LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT-6:33 pm] YES, THANK YOU, BOARD OF DIRECTORS. WE ACKNOWLEDGE THE ORIGINAL INHABITANTS OF THIS PLACE, THE SNOHOMISH PEOPLE AND THEIR SUCCESSORS, THE TULALIP TRIBES, WHO SINCE TIME IMMEMORIAL HAVE TAKEN CARE OF, HUNTED, FISHED AND GATHERED ON THESE LANDS. WE RESPECT THEIR SOVEREIGNTY, THEIR RIGHT TO SELF-DETERMINATION, AND WE HONOR THEIR SACRED SPIRITUAL CONNECTION WITH THE LAND AND WATER. BY ACKNOWLEDGING THESE HOMELANDS WE COMMIT TO WORKING WITH TRIBAL NATIONS TO FURTHER THE EDUCATION AIMS. THEY'VE IDENTIFIED IN OUR CLASSROOMS AND OUR SCHOOLS. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. NEXT, WE HAVE OUR FLAG SALUTE. [4. FLAG SALUTE-6:35 pm] ALLEGIANCE] OK. AND NEXT, WE HAVE THE APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA, WOULD ANYONE LIKE TO MAKE A [5. APPROVAL OF AGENDA-6:37 pm] MOTION? THIS IS ANN, MOVE TO APPROVE. THIS IS CARIN SECOND. THANK YOU, IT'S BEEN MOVED AND SECONDED TO APPROVE THE AGENDA FOR TONIGHT. IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION? HEARING NONE, I'LL CALL FOR A VOTE ALL THOSE IN FAVOR OF APPROVING TONIGHT'S AGENDA. PLEASE INDICATE BY SAYING AYE. AYE. ANY OPPOSED SAY NAY. ANY ABSTENTIONS. THE MOTION PASSES. NEXT, WE HAVE THE SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT. [6. SUPERINTENDENT REPORT-6:40 pm] THANK YOU BOARD OF DIRECTORS, AND I'LL BE BRIEF THIS EVENING, JUST APPRECIATE YOUR YOU BEING ON THIS TONIGHT. JUST WANT TO TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE VACCINE. I REALLY APPRECIATE THAT 99 PERCENT OF OUR STAFF, FOR THE MOST PART, HAVE BEEN VACCINATED HERE IN EDMONDS. I KNOW YOU'LL HEAR A LITTLE BIT LATER ON THIS AFTERNOON OR THIS EVENING REGARDING MORE SPECIFICS, BUT JUST WANT TO CONTINUE TO TO INFORM YOU THAT WE'RE STILL SHORT STAFFED IN VARIETY OF AREAS FROM PARAPROFESSIONALS TO TEACHERS, DRIVERS, NURSES, ETC.. WE'RE STILL VERY, VERY SHORT AND I NEED TO MAKE ADJUSTMENTS. SO WE'VE MADE SOME SOME INITIAL ADJUSTMENTS TO MOVE SOME OF OUR TEACHERS ON SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT OUT TO BUILDINGS TO HELP SUPPORT THIS EFFORT UNTIL WE GET MORE FULLY STAFFED. AND WE'RE CONTINUING TO MAKE PLANS FOR A SECOND AND POSSIBLY EVEN THIRD SHIFT OF MORE SUPPORT TO OUR SCHOOLS FROM THE DISTRICT OFFICE AS WE NEED TO AGAIN GET KEEP OUR KEEP KIDS IN SCHOOL AND KEEP CERTIFIED TEACHERS IN FRONT OF KIDS. THAT'S OUR GOAL. THAT'S OUR GOAL. IT'S NOT OPTIMAL AND WE DO APPRECIATE THE WORK THAT EVERYBODY HAS DONE IN THE PAST AND HAS DONE THIS YEAR IN TERMS OF DIFFERENT ROLES OTHER THAN BEING IN A SCHOOL SETTING. BUT WE DO KNOW THAT WE ARE IN VERY DIFFERENT TIMES. WE'RE IN VERY DIFFERENT TIMES AND WE HAVE TO KEEP ADJUSTING BECAUSE OF THESE VERY DIFFERENT TIMES THAT WE ARE IN. BUT WE ALSO ARE MAKING SOME ADJUSTMENTS FOR OUR CENTRAL OFFICE ADMINISTRATORS TO ALSO CONTINUE TO SUPPORT OUR SCHOOLS, INCLUDING OUR CABINET MEMBERS THAT WILL BE HELPING SUPPORT OUR CLASSROOMS AND OUR SCHOOLS UNTIL WE GET MORE FULLY STAFFED. AND THIS IS SOMETHING THAT WE MAY THAT WE'RE WE'RE GOING TO KEEP DOING UNTIL WE REVISIT PROBABLY IN MID-JANUARY AND TO SEE WHERE WHERE WE'RE AT WITH OUR STAFFING. WAS IN ON A CALL TODAY WITH SNOHOMISH COUNTY HEALTH DISTRICT, AND THEY MENTIONED THAT TWENTY TWO PERCENT OF THE CURRENT CASES THAT THEY'VE SEEN I THINK IN THE LAST WEEK, WEEK AND A HALF AND DANA OUR ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT CAN MAYBE VERIFY WHEN WE DO THE PRESENTATION, I BELIEVE IT WAS TWENTY TWO PERCENT OF THE CASES ARE KIDS UNDER 14 RIGHT NOW THAT THEY'RE SEEING THE SNOHOMISH COUNTY FOR THE LAST WEEK AND A HALF OR SO. SO TWENTY TWO PERCENT OF THE CASES ARE IN OUR YOUNGEST KIDS, AND THAT'S AND WITH EIGHT PERCENT, I BELIEVE IT WAS 14 TO 19 PERCENT ARE 14 AND 19 YEAR OLDS. SO 30 PERCENT 19 UNDER ARE MAKING UP THE THE CURRENT COVID CASES THAT ARE BEING FOUND IN OUR COUNTY. SO 30 PERCENT. OF OUR CASES ARE 19 UNDER IN OUR COUNTY FOR THE LAST REPORTING CYCLE THROUGH SNOHOMISH COUNTY. SO WE KNOW THAT WE HOPE THAT THE KID VACCINE, WHICH THE VACCINE FOR STUDENTS OUR YOUNGEST LEARNERS, IS COMING OUT HERE VERY SOON AND I KNOW THAT WE'RE VERY, VERY HAPPY THAT THAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN AND WE HOPE THAT WE'RE ABLE TO TURN THE CORNER ON THIS. I KNOW THIS IS A TOPIC THAT WE'VE HAD IN EVERY BOARD MEETING WITH REGARDS TO COVID, BUT IT IS TOP OF MIND. IT IS TOP OF MIND, ARE WE? I VISIT SCHOOLS AND I APPRECIATE FOLKS THAT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO COME WITH ME TO VISIT SCHOOLS. THIS IS NOT NORMAL TIMES. [00:05:03] OUR STAFF AND KIDS ARE DOING THE BEST THEY CAN DURING VERY, VERY DIFFERENT CIRCUMSTANCES THAN BEFORE, BUT WE'LL CONTINUE TO CONTINUE TO WORK FORWARD, MOVE FORWARD AND WORK WITH OUR PARTNERS. SNOHOMISH COUNTY TO DO THE BEST WE CAN AS WE HOPEFULLY AGAIN, WE'LL TURN A CORNER HERE WITH THE VACCINE. A WORRY, OF COURSE, IS ALWAYS THIS IS FLU SEASON. THIS IS FLU SEASON. AND EVEN IF IT'S A LITTLE SNIFFLE, WE'RE ASKING PEOPLE TO STILL STAY HOME, RIGHT? I MEAN, JUST STAY HOME IF YOU'RE NOT FEELING WELL. AND THAT'S ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE'RE GOING TO CONTINUE TO DO A PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT TO OUR STAFF AND OTHERS AS WELL. JUST MAKE SURE THAT IF YOU'RE NOT FEELING WELL, JUST TO STAY AT HOME BECAUSE WE WE NEVER KNOW, BUT WE DON'T WANT TO TAKE ANY CHANCES. SO VERY DIFFERENT TIMES WE'RE IN. YOU'LL HEAR MORE OF THE REPORT, BUT IT'S ALWAYS WONDERFUL TO GO INTO BUILDINGS AND ACTUALLY SEE KIDS DOING WHAT KIDS DO. AND I OFTEN ASK THE QUESTION IN TERMS OF WHAT'S WHAT'S YOUR WHAT'S THE FAVORITE THING ABOUT BEING BACK IN SCHOOL WHAT'S THE FAVORITE THING ABOUT BEING BACK IN SCHOOL? AND THEY'LL SAY BEING WITH THEIR FRIENDS, HAVING THEIR TEACHERS. AND AGAIN, AND BEING ABLE TO SEE EACH OTHER. SO I MEAN, THOSE ARE COMMON THREADS, SO I'M VERY THANKFUL THAT WE BE ABLE TO TO MOVE FORWARD IN THIS DIRECTION AND CONTINUE TO DO AGAIN YEOMAN'S WORK THAT EVERYBODY IS DOING IN OUR ABILITIES TO KEEP OUR KIDS FOCUS AND ENGAGE AND APPRECIATE THE PATIENCE FROM EVERYONE. I KNOW WE'VE HAD TO CLOSE A SCHOOL. MADRONA SCHOOL WAS SHUT DOWN FOR A BIT AND WE'RE MAKING SOME ADJUSTMENTS THERE. BUT AGAIN, OUR STAFF ARE WORKING VERY HARD AND DOING THE BEST THEY CAN TO AGAIN WITH THEIR CORE MISSION OF MIND AND KEEPING KIDS IN THE FOREFRONT, KEEPING KIDS ALWAYS AT THE BULL'S EYE AND MAKING SURE THAT WE HAVE THE QUALITY TEACHERS IN FRONT OF THEM. SO THANK YOU FOR TONIGHT AND LOOK FORWARD TO THE PRESENTATION LATER ON. THANK YOU. UP NEXT, WE HAVE THE APPROVAL OF MINUTES, WOULD ANYONE THE FIRST ONE IS THE [7. APPROVAL OF MINUTES-6:45 pm] SINGLE IS TO APPROVE THE MINUTES FOR THE OCTOBER 12, 2021 STUDY SESSION, IS THERE A MOTION? I MOVE TO APPROVE THE MINUTES FROM THE OCTOBER 12TH STUDY SESSION. I SECOND. THANK YOU. IT'S BEEN MOVED AND SECONDED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES FROM OCTOBER 12TH STUDY SESSION. IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION? HEARING NONE, I'LL CALL FOR A VOTE, ALL THOSE IN FAVOR OF APPROVING THE OCTOBER 12TH STUDY SESSION MINUTES, PLEASE INDICATE BY SAYING AYE. AYE. ANY OPPOSED SAY NAY. ANY ABSTENTIONS. THE MOTION PASSES AND THE MINUTES ARE APPROVED. THE NEXT ITEM IS THE SINGLE READING TO APPROVE THE MINUTES FOR THE OCTOBER 12, 2021 BUSINESS MEETING. IS THERE A MOTION? THIS IS ANN MOVE TO APPROVE. I SECOND IT. THANK YOU, IT'S BEEN MOVED AND SECONDED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES FOR THE OCTOBER 12TH BUSINESS MEETING. IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION? HEARING NONE, I'LL GO AHEAD AND CALL FOR A VOTE, ALL THOSE IN FAVOR OF APPROVING THE MINUTES FOR OCTOBER 12, 2021 BUSINESS MEETING, PLEASE INDICATE BY SAYING AYE. AYE. ANY OPPOSED SAY NAY. ANY ABSTENTIONS. THE MOTION PASSES AND THE MINUTES ARE APPROVED. NEXT, WE HAVE OUR CONSENT AGENDA. [8. CONSENT AGENDA-6:50 pm] IS THERE A MOTION? I MOVE TO APPROVE. THIS IS SECOND, IT'S CARIN. IT'S BEEN MOVED AND SECONDED TO APPROVE THE CONSENT AGENDA FOR TONIGHT. IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION? YEAH, I'D LIKE TO SAY SOMETHING ABOUT ITEM EIGHT POINT ONE FIVE, WHICH IS REGARDING THE AGREEMENT WITH THE GRAD ALLIANCE, AND I REALLY APPRECIATED IN THE BACKGROUND INFORMATION. THE DATA THAT SAID TOLD US THAT EIGHTY NINE STUDENTS WERE ENROLLED THIS YEAR. ELEVEN GOT DIPLOMAS AND FOUR OF THE KIDS ARE BACK INTO ONSITE DISTRICT PROGRAMS. SO THAT'S REALLY IT SOUNDS LIKE GOOD NEWS. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW, AND I DON'T NEED TO KNOW TONIGHT, THIS ISN'T GOING TO AFFECT MY VOTE OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT. I JUST WANT TO KNOW MAYBE WE COULD GET A REPORT IN THE FUTURE, MAYBE IN A FRIDAY MEMO OR ANOTHER REPORT THAT GOES A LITTLE BIT MORE IN DEPTH TO TO GIVE US AN UPDATE ON WHAT HAPPENED WITH THE GRAD ALLIANCE THIS YEAR. SOME POSSIBLE, YOU KNOW, SOME THINGS THAT WOULD BE OF INTEREST WOULD BE HOW MANY STUDENTS WERE CONTACTED IN ALL? HOW MANY ARE STILL LIKE WORKING TOWARD A DIPLOMA BUT HAVEN'T REACHED A DIPLOMA OF THOSE WHO WERE ENROLLED AND WHAT THE DEMOGRAPHICS ARE OF THE STUDENTS WHO ARE BEING SERVED [00:10:05] VERSUS THOSE WHO FOR SOME REASON WERE SORT OF IN THE COHORT OF BEING CONTACTED OR BUT CHOSE NOT TO BE SO THAT WE CAN SEE THAT THIS IS AN OPPORTUNITY THAT IS REALLY GETTING EQUITABLY OUT TO ALL THE KIDS IN THAT SITUATION. SO I'M JUST SORT OF MAKING A REQUEST FOR THE FUTURE. YOU KNOW, UNLESS SOMEBODY SITTING IN DISTRICT STAFF HAS THE DATA AT THE FINGERPRINT, YOU KNOW, FINGERTIPS THAT IT WOULD BE INTERESTING FOR US TO KNOW MORE IN DEPTH WHAT WHAT'S HAPPENED THIS YEAR WITH THE GRAD ALLIANCE. BECAUSE I THINK IT'S A REALLY EXCELLENT OPPORTUNITY WE'RE PROVIDING AND IT WOULD BE NICE FOR US TO HAVE THAT KIND OF INFORMATION IN DEPTH. I WILL WORK WITH STAFF. DR. KATIMS TO MAYBE AGAIN WORK WITH BOARD LEADERSHIP, WHICH I KNOW YOU'RE INVOLVED WITH AND DR. KILGORE TO SEE IF WE CAN PUT SOMETHING ON THE AGENDA TO HAVE A MORE COMPREHENSIVE REPORT FROM GREG SCHWAB, WHO'S DONE A PHENOMENAL JOB OF WORKING WITH GRAD ALLIANCE WITH OUR BUILDING PRINCIPALS. SO I'LL MAKE SURE THAT WE WERE ABLE TO DO THAT. THANK YOU. YEP. ANY OTHER DISCUSSION. OK. HEARING NONE. I'LL GO AHEAD AND CALL FOR A VOTE. ALL THOSE IN FAVOR OF APPROVING TONIGHT'S CONSENT AGENDA PLEASE INDICATE BY SAYING AYE. AYE. ANY OPPOSED SAY NAY. ANY ABSTENTIONS, THE MOTION PASSES AND THE CONSENT AGENDA IS APPROVED. NEXT, WE HAVE OUR PUBLIC COMMENTS. [9. PUBLIC COMMENTS-6:55 pm] THE PUBLIC COMMENTS TONIGHT THERE IS JUST ONE PERSON SIGNED UP, BUT I'M NOT SURE IF THEY'RE IN THE IN THE ZOOM. ALISON, DO YOU KNOW? WE DO NOT HAVE ANY ATTENDEES. OK, WELL, PERHAPS LATER IF THEY THEY COME, THEN THEY CAN MAKE THEIR STATEMENT AT A LATER TIME IN THE EVENING. MOVING ON, WE HAVE REPORTS. [10. REPORTS-7:25 pm] FIRST, WE HAVE OUR 2021 TO 2022 STATUS UPDATE. SO THANK YOU, LET ME GET THE POWERPOINT. THANK YOU. AND NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE. AND THIS IS NATIONAL PRINCIPLES MONTH, AND WE DO HAVE SOME BUILDING LEADERS HERE THAT ARE GOING TO SHARE SOME OF THEIR JUST TO JUST TO SHARE, AND WE HAVE ONE FROM EACH LEVEL, I DO BELIEVE, AND I'M GOING TO START WITH CARLA, BUT AGAIN, FIRST OF ALL, BEFORE WE START IS AGAIN, WE TRULY APPRECIATE THE BUILDING LEADERS. I KNOW THAT EVERYBODY WORKS HARD AND IN SCHOOL SYSTEMS, BUT THIS IS OUR NATIONAL PRINCIPALS MONTH AND WE'RE VERY GRATEFUL TO HAVE EXCELLENT LEADERS HERE WORKING WITH OUR SCHOOL COMMUNITIES TO ENSURE THAT AGAIN, WE'RE DOING THE BEST, HAVING THE BEST POSSIBLE EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE FOR THEIR YOUTH. AND I AM GOING TO START WITH CARLA CARRIZOSA. CARLA IS OUR NEW PRINCIPAL HERE COMING TO US FROM FEDERAL WAY. AND SHE'S AT COLLEGE PLACE. I WILL TURN IT OVER TO CARLA. HI, EVERYONE. I'M CARLA CARRIZOSA, AND I AM THE FIRST YEAR PRINCIPAL HERE AT COLLEGE PLACE, I'VE BEEN IN ADMINISTRATION FOR SIX YEARS. I'M REALLY HAPPY TO BE HERE AT CP, MAKING SURE THAT ALL STUDENTS ARE SUCCESSFUL IN BOTH ACADEMICALLY AND IN OUR TIMES ARE UNPRECEDENTED TIMES OF COVID, MAKING SURE THEY'RE FEELING SAFE AND THAT THEY BELONG HERE AT SCHOOL. COVID IS A CHALLENGE. THE GAPS WE ARE SEEING FOR STUDENTS ARE ARE VERY CHALLENGING, BUT I KNOW THAT WITH OUR MULTI-TIERED SUPPORT SYSTEMS THAT WE HAVE IN PLACE THAT OUR STUDENTS WILL SUCCEED. SO AND THEY WILL SHOW GROWTH THIS YEAR. SO I'M REALLY POSITIVE ABOUT THAT AND AND REALLY ENCOURAGING OUR STUDENTS TO DO WELL. THANK YOU FOR HAVING ME. THANKS CARLA. WE ALSO HAVE A COUPLE MORE FOLKS HERE. DO HAVE MIKE PIPER AND SCOTT MORRISON, I BELIEVE, ON THE CALL AND. HERE. SCOTT YOU CAN GO FIRST, OR YOU WANT ME TO JUMP IN? HE MAY HAVE A GLITCH, WHY DON'T YOU GO, MIKE? OK, SO I JUST JOTTED DOWN A FEW THINGS THAT I KNOW THE PROP WAS, WHAT'S IT LIKE TO BE A PRINCIPAL? I BELIEVE SO. FIRST, IT'S A IT'S JUST A GREAT HONOR, AND IT'S ALSO A GREAT RESPONSIBILITY TO BE PRINCIPAL HERE AT LINWOOD HIGH SCHOOL. [00:15:01] AND I KNOW MY COLLEAGUES FEEL THE SAME WITH THE BUILDINGS THAT THEY LEAD. WE JUST HAVE WONDERFUL, AMAZING, HARDWORKING STAFF AND JUST REALLY SPECIAL, AWESOME STUDENTS HERE AT EDMONDS. SO IT'S IT'S AN HONOR TO BE A PRINCIPAL HERE IN EDMONDS, AND WE REALLY ENJOY AND APPRECIATE THE WORK. I ALWAYS SAY THE ONE SPIN IS WERE NEVER BORED, BUT JOTTED DOWN JUST A COUPLE OF THE HATS THAT WE WEAR. SO AS PRINCIPAL, WE GET TO BE AN ACCOUNTANT FOR THE BUILDING, AN INSTRUCTIONAL LEADER, A COUNSELOR, A TEACHER, A DATA ANALYSIS, THE DEAN OF STUDENTS, A HR SPECIALIST, A SUPERVISOR, A FIRST RESPONDER, A COVID SUPERVISOR THIS YEAR. COMMUNICATOR, ATHLETIC SUPERVISOR, MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKER, STRATEGIC PLANNER, THE CONFLICT MEDIATOR. AND I KNOW MISS A LOT OF THINGS. I'M JUST GOING TO PUT OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED. BUT IS THE JOB THAT WE LOVE AND WE'RE PROUD TO DO IT. AND WE'RE REALLY FORTUNATE TO BE HERE IN EDMONDS WITH THE GREAT COMMUNITY AND SUPPORTIVE BOARD AND THE LEADERSHIP TEAM THAT WE HAVE. SO THANK YOU VERY MUCH. THANKS, MIKE. SCOTT I DON'T KNOW IF YOU CAN IF YOU HAVE YOUR GLITCH FIXED, BUT MAYBE AFTER YOU GO, MAYBE WE CAN. WE CAN ASK THE BOARD IF THEY HAVE QUESTIONS FOR YOU AS BUILDING LEADERS. OK, IS MY, CAN YOU HEAR ME? YES, I'M AFRAID THAT MY WI-FI IS GOING TO GLITCH AND SO I SENT SOME NOTES, BUT HERE IT IS. SO I'VE BEEN IN THE DISTRICT SINCE FIRST GRADE AND THIS THE THEME WAS WHAT IS IT LIKE TO BE A PRINCIPAL BY SCOTT MORRISON? TODAY, I WENT TO WORK IN MY PAJAMAS AND THAT WAS APPROPRIATE ATTIRE, SOME EXPERIENCES I'VE HAD. I'VE BEEN CALLED EVERY NAME IN THE BOOK BY STUDENTS, FAMILY MEMBERS AND STAFF, MOSTLY BEHIND MY BACK FROM THAT LAST GROUP. I'VE BEEN FLIPPED OFF BY A FIRST GRADER AS HE WAS STRUTTING IN FRONT OF A CLASS OF STUNNED SIXTH GRADERS. I'VE BEEN PUNCHED IN THE STOMACH BY A 16 YEAR OLD BECAUSE SHE DIDN'T WANT TO GO TO THE OFFICE. I KNOW THAT I'M AT FAULT FOR ALL THE BAD STUFF THAT HAPPENS AT MY SCHOOL, AND I'M PRETTY SURE I HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE GOOD STUFF THAT HAPPENS AT MY SCHOOL. RELATED TO THAT, I SLEEP THROUGH THE NIGHT ABOUT HALF THE TIME DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR. I VISITED A MOM WITH TWO CHILDREN WHO WERE STAYING IN A SHELTER THAT'S HALF THE SIZE OF MY OFFICE. I VISITED A MOBILE HOME PARK FULL OF FAMILIES AND STUDENTS WHO WERE SCREECHING WITH JOY AS THEY PLAYED WITH A REMOTE CONTROL CAR. I'VE WORKED WITH TEACHERS AND DISTRICT STAFF TO LEARN HOW TO TEACH MATH EFFECTIVELY AND WAS ABLE TO WATCH AS STUDENTS GOT IT AS THEY WALKED THROUGH A MATH GALLERY AS THEIR CLASSMATES EXPLAINED HOW THEY WERE THINKING ABOUT THEIR MATH TASK. I'VE BEEN IN THE MIDDLE OF WHAT MY LIBRARIAN CALLED KID SKIRT AS I WALKED INTO A LIBRARY FULL OF KINDERGARTNERS WHO ALL CAME CAME TO HUG ME AT ONCE. I'VE BEEN I'VE SEEN STUDENTS GET IT OVER TIME AND LEARN HOW TO BEHAVE LIKE STUDENTS BECAUSE WE HAD CREATED A TEAM OF CARING ADULTS WHO PLAN AND RESEARCH AND GATHER DATA AND WORK REALLY HARD TO FIND AN ANSWER FOR THAT KID. I GET TO LAUGH WITH AND OFTEN ABOUT THE MANY, MANY STUDENTS I SUPPORT EVERY DAY, AND I THINK THAT IS WHY WE PRINCIPALS CONTINUE TO DO THIS WORK. THANK YOU. THANKS, MIKE, THAT'S GOOD. THANK ALL THREE, CARLA, MIKE AND SCOTT, THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE AND OPEN UP FOR ANY QUESTIONS FROM THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS TO OUR BUILDING LEADERS THAT ARE PRESENT HERE. I KNOW THEY'RE REFLECTIVE OF OUR AWESOME GROUP THAT WE HAVE OUT IN SCHOOLS. I DON'T HAVE ANY QUESTIONS. THIS IS NANCY, I JUST WANT TO SAY, FIRST OF ALL, WELCOME TO CARLA. IT'S GREAT TO HAVE YOU HERE. CP IS A WONDERFUL SCHOOL. I USED TO WORK IN THE DISTRICT BEFORE IT BECAME A BOARD MEMBER, AND CP WAS ALWAYS ONE OF MY FAVORITE SCHOOLS. AND SCOTT AND MIKE, I LOVE SEEING YOU GUYS. YOU'RE DOING A GREAT JOB. I'VE HAD THE PLEASURE TO WORK WITH YOU, BUT MOSTLY ON BEHALF OF ALL THE PRINCIPALS, WE REALLY WANT TO SAY THANK YOU BECAUSE YOU, YOU REALLY HAVE PRETTY MUCH A THANKLESS JOB. I THINK, SCOTT, YOU TOUCHED SOME OF THE THINGS THAT CAN HAPPEN TO PRINCIPALS AND DISTRICT ADMINISTRATORS, BUT YOU ARE SO APPRECIATED AND YOU'RE SO IMPORTANT TO THE SUCCESS OF OUR KIDS. AND SO THANK YOU. EVERY MONTH SHOULD BE PRINCIPALS MONTH IN A GOOD WAY. THIS IS ANN. I JUST WANT TO ECHO AND SAY THANK YOU FOR THE WORK THAT YOU'RE DOING. CARLA, WELCOME TO THE DISTRICT AND I WANT TO JUST SAY THANK YOU FOR STICKING WITH IT. I KNOW THAT THERE HAS BEEN IN MANY SYSTEMS PEOPLE WHO HAVE LEFT BECAUSE OF THE STRESS OVER THE PAST SEVERAL YEARS. AND YOU HAVEN'T, YOU STAYED. YOU'VE FOUND WAYS TO BE CREATIVE AND TO BE PERSISTENT AND TO PERSEVERE THROUGH UNPRECEDENTED STRESSES. AND I AM JUST HOPEFUL THAT WE ARE ENTERING THE BACK END OF THIS TO WHERE WE CAN START [00:20:03] ALLOWING YOU TO SLEEP AT NIGHT SCOTT AND WE CAN WORK ON SOME OF THESE THE OTHER ISSUES THAT WE WOULD LIKE TO DO AND TO HELP WITH OUR KIDS ISSUES THAT AS INSTRUCTIONAL LEADERS, ESPECIALLY IN OUR SCHOOLS. YOUR POSITION IS SO VITAL. SO THANK YOU FOR YOUR RESILIENCY AND YOUR PERSEVERANCE AND THE WAY THAT YOU ARE MODELING THOSE CHARACTERISTICS TO YOUR STAFF, YOUR STUDENTS, THE FAMILIES AND THE COMMUNITY. I WOULD JUST I WOULD ECHO ALL THOSE COMMENTS AND JUST ASK, WHAT ELSE CAN THE BOARD DO FOR YOU DURING THIS DIFFICULT TIME? WITHIN REASON. YOU CAN BE UNREASONABLE, TOO. THAT'S OK. A STARBUCKS CARD EVERY WEEK FOR FIVE DOLLARS. JUST KIDDING. I THINK JUST AS FAR AS ELEMENTARY AND BEING DUAL LANGUAGE. JUST YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT FOR THE PROGRAM AND KNOWING THAT I WAS ONE OF THE FIRST ELL STUDENTS IN THIS COUNTRY IN THE EARLY SEVENTIES. I KNOW I'M AGING MYSELF, BUT JUST GIVING THAT OPPORTUNITY TO STUDENTS, I HAVE ALWAYS SAID I SEE MYSELF IN THE FACES OF EVERY CHILD, BILINGUAL CHILD IN THIS SPANISH SPEAKING BILINGUAL CHILD, AND IT JUST IS AN AMAZING PROGRAM. AND JUST YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT FOR THE PROGRAM AND KNOWING THIS IS A GREAT PLACE FOR STUDENTS TO BE, BUT ALSO BECAUSE WE'RE PROVIDING THEM WITH THAT SUPPORT THEY SO DESPERATELY NEED TO PROVIDE THEM WITH AN EQUITABLE CHANCE AT. AT LEARNING, THANK YOU VERY MUCH TO ALL OF YOU FOR THAT AND JUST YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT WITH THAT WOULD BE GREAT. THANK YOU. AND JUST THEY CONTINUE TO UNDERSTAND AND IN COMMUNICATION, YOU KNOW, IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS, DON'T [INAUDIBLE]. I DON'T THINK WE GOT THAT, SCOTT. I THINK I THINK MAYBE HE LOCKED UP. MIKE, DID YOU HAVE ANYTHING? I DIDN'T WANT TO. NO, STOMP ON SCOTT, IF HE WAS GOING, SO LET'S PAUSE. SO I WAS JUST GOING TO SAY JUST CONTINUE TO UNDERSTAND AND IN COMMUNICATION, YOU KNOW, IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS, DON'T FEEL FREE TO REACH OUT TO A PRINCIPAL AND AND ASK FOR [INAUDIBLE]. WE'D LOVE TO CONTINUE TO TALK AND COLLABORATE AND COMMUNICATE TO JUST CONTINUING TO KEEP THAT GOING BETWEEN US. OK. WELL, I'M NOT SURE. OK, I THINK THERE'S A. THERE IS A WRITTEN COMMENT. PATIENCE IS SOMETHING WE NEED FROM SCOTT MORRISON. YES, IT IS A IT IS A DIFFICULT YEAR AND THAT'S WHY I'M ASKING BECAUSE I KNOW THAT IT'S IT'S PUTTING A LOT OF STRESS ON THE SYSTEM, AND I SO APPRECIATE WHAT YOU ALL ARE DOING TO HOLD OUR SCHOOLS TOGETHER. SO THANK YOU, CARLA, MIKE AND SCOTT FOR YOUR TIME THIS EVENING. I KNOW THAT YOU'VE GOT OTHER THINGS GOING ON WITH YOUR SCHOOLS AND JUST APPRECIATE YOU BEING ABLE JUST TO BE ON TO BE RECOGNIZED. AND I KNOW THAT AGAIN, AS STATED EARLIER, WE HAVE GREAT LEADERS EVERYWHERE AND YOU'RE THE EPITOME OF WHAT WE HAVE AND VERY PROUD OF THE WORK THAT YOU DO. SO THANK YOU. THANK YOU. BOARD DIRECTORS FOR YOUR INDULGENCE AGAIN AT NATIONAL. HAPPY NATIONAL PRINCIPLES MONTH AND CARLA. SEE IF I CAN GET YOU THAT STARBUCKS CARD. NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE. AND AGAIN, THIS IS SOMETHING THAT WE JUST GONE THROUGH IN TERMS OF THE BEACONS OF LIGHT AND SUPPORT THAT THEY DO, AND AGAIN, IT JUST, I THINK SOMEONE SAID EARLIER, I THINK EVERY EVERY PRINCIPLE IS EVERY MONTH SHOULD BE NATIONAL PRINCIPLES MONTH RIGHT NOW. SO THANK YOU. NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE. OH NEXT SLIDE WENT THROUGH THIS TURN OVER TO DANA ON THIS ONE. [00:25:06] THIS IS ACTUALLY DEBBY. YEAH. WELL, LAST MONDAY WE COMPLETED WHAT REALLY WAS THE FIRST ROUND OF OUR VERIFICATIONS VACCINATIONS OR EXEMPTIONS BY OUR EDMONDS STAFF. I SAY THE FIRST ROUND IS BECAUSE AS WE HIRE NEW PEOPLE AND WE HAVE SOME GROUPS OF EMPLOYEES LIKE COACHES WHO ONLY WORK IN THE SPRING, THEY STILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY PRIOR TO WORKING TO PROVIDE VERIFICATION OR SEEK A RELIGIOUS EXEMPTION. SO IN TOTAL, WE HAVE APPROXIMATELY 97 PERCENT OF OUR STAFF WHO PROVIDED THEIR VACCINE VERIFICATION AND THE REMAINING THREE PERCENT OF THE STAFF OBTAINED EITHER A RELIGIOUS OR A MEDICAL EXEMPTION. AND AS I MENTIONED, THE NUMBERS ABOVE DO NOT INCLUDE SOME OF OUR HOURLY STAFF WHO MAY JUST BE HIRED TO WORK A DAY OR TWO THROUGHOUT THE YEAR OR OUR COACHES. THE PROCLAMATION STATES THAT THEY CANNOT ENGAGE IN WORK, SO SOME OF THESE NUMBERS ALSO DO NOT REFLECT INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE ON APPROVED LEAVES FOR THE YEAR OR LESS. SO THAT'S WHY WE STILL THIS WILL BE AN ONGOING PROCESS AS PEOPLE EITHER JOIN OUR DISTRICT OR COMING BACK FROM A LEAVE OR BEGINNING THEIR ASSIGNMENT LATER IN THE YEAR. NEXT SLIDE. OK. AS DR. BALDERAS MENTIONED IN HIS REMARKS, WE STILL ARE A CHALLENGE IN SOME AREAS WITH OUR STAFFING. AND I THINK THIS IS JUST OUR OPPORTUNITY FOR ANYONE WHO'S LISTENING TO REINFORCE WHAT OUR ADMINISTRATORS JUST GOT THROUGH SAYING. AND I THINK ALL OF US HERE ON THE SCREEN KNOW EDMONDS IS A GREAT PLACE TO WORK FULL OF CARING INDIVIDUALS AND PHENOMENAL STUDENTS AND STAFF, AND IT REALLY IS AN HONOR TO BE PART OF THE WORK THAT WE'RE DOING. AND SO WE REALLY DO WANT AND ENCOURAGE ALL OF US TO ENCOURAGE FAMILIES AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS THAT THERE'S ALL KINDS OF WORK AVAILABLE IF THEY WANT TO BE PART OF THIS TEAM FROM SUBSTITUTE WORK, WE'VE GOT POSITIONS THAT ARE PART TIME, NOT FULL YEARS, AND WE HAVE FULL TIME OPPORTUNITIES AS WELL. SO BOTH AS NEEDED IN SUBSTITUTE POSITIONS OR IN CONTINUING POSITIONS. NEXT SLIDE. SO HOW CAN THOSE THAT ARE INTERESTED IN JOINING EDMONDS? WE HAVE A VARIETY OF POSITIONS THAT MATCHES PEOPLE'S INTEREST AND SKILL SET. SO CURRENTLY, WE'RE REALLY LOOKING FOR INDIVIDUALS TO JOIN OUR FOODSERVICE TEAM, BOTH AS REGULAR EMPLOYEES OR SUBSTITUTES. PARA EDUCATORS WHO PROVIDE A VARIETY OF SERVICES FOR WORKING WITH STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS TO SUPPORTING SUPERVISION ON THE PLAYGROUNDS, IN THE HALLWAYS, IN LUNCHROOMS. WE'RE ALWAYS LOOKING FOR SCHOOL BUS DRIVERS TO JOIN OUR TEAM, BOTH ON A REGULAR ROUTE AS WELL AS THOSE THAT ARE ON CALL. AND THEN A COUPLE OF THE AREAS THAT WE'RE SEEING AN INCREASED NEED FOR ARE INDIVIDUALS TO SUPPORT OUR SCREENING PROCESS AT THE SCHOOL AND CAN SUPPORT OUR CONTACT TRACING. SO WE ARE IN THE PROCESS OF DEVELOPING A POOL OF INDIVIDUALS WHO CAN BE DISPATCHED TO SUPPORT THE SCHOOLS WITH THESE TWO AREAS. AND ALSO TEMPORARY NURSE POSITIONS AS WELL TO SUPPORT OUR STUDENTS AND FAMILIES WITH THESE HEALTH NEEDS. AND THEN WE ALSO HAVE CUSTODIANS AS WELL AS BOTH OUR CLASSIFIED AND CERTIFICATED SUBSTITUTES. NEXT SLIDE. THIS IS WHERE AND WE TRY TO GET THIS OUT IN AS MANY PLACES, WORK WITH COMMUNICATIONS AND SOCIAL MEDIA ON OUR WEBSITE AND OUR PUBLICATIONS. [00:30:06] THIS IS THE PLACE THAT PEOPLE CAN GO TO TO APPLY FOR JOBS AND LEARN MORE ABOUT THAT. NEXT SLIDE. OK, I'M GOING TO TURN IT OVER TO DANA. THANKS, DEBBY. FIRST OF ALL, A HUGE SHOUT OUT, OF COURSE, TO ALL OF OUR BUILDING LEADERS WHO DO AN AMAZING JOB EVERY DAY AND THIS YEAR, MORE THAN ANY OTHER, WE'VE REALLY JUST ASKED THEM TO CONTINUE TO PIVOT TO SUPPORT OUR FAMILIES AND STUDENTS. AND SO A HUGE THANK YOU TO THEM AND THE LIFT THAT THEY DO EVERY DAY WHEN THEY COME. AND IT INVOLVES TEACHING. IT INVOLVES LEADING IT. JUST EVERY, EVERY, EVERY BIT OF THE WORK IS IS TOUGH AND CHALLENGING AND THEY JUST MEET THE CHALLENGE EVERY DAY. SO THANK YOU TO THEM. QUICKLY SNOHOMISH COUNTY HEALTH DISTRICT UPDATE. WE ARE HEADED BACK UP A LITTLE BIT AND WE'RE AT THREE HUNDRED FIFTY ONE THOUSAND PER HUNDRED THOUSAND IN THE PAST 14 DAYS. WE KNOW DR. BALDERAS REFERENCED THIS AT THE BEGINNING OF THE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE MEETING IN THE SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT. WE REALLY WERE ON THAT LITTLE BIT OF A DOWNWARD TREND. WE DIDN'T SEE THAT IN THE DISTRICT AS MUCH AS WE WERE SEEING IT COUNTYWIDE. SO WE'VE STILL HAD A NUMBER OF CASES, BUT WE HAVE A SIGNIFICANT NUMBER OF OUR STUDENTS WHO ARE UNVACCINATED. AND SO THAT'S REALLY PLAYING OUT IN SOME OF THOSE POSITIVE CASES. OUR POSITIVE TEST RATE IN THE COUNTY, WHICH IS WHAT WE KEEP AN EYE ON. IT'S ALSO UP A LITTLE BIT UP TO SIX POINT EIGHT PERCENT. AND THEN THOSE LOCAL THE LOCAL EPIDEMIOLOGICAL DATA IN SNOHOMISH COUNTY AND I KNOW DR. BALDERAS REFERENCED THIS AS WELL. IT IS. IT IS SIGNIFICANT BECAUSE THESE NUMBERS ARE MUCH HIGHER THAN THEY HAVE BEEN IN THE PAST. TWENTY TWO PERCENT OF THE CASES ARE THOSE ZERO TO 14 YEAR OLDS AND MOST OF THOSE REALLY BEING SCHOOL AGE KIDDOS. AND THEN EIGHT PERCENT THE 15 TO 19 YEAR OLDS. SO WHEN YOU ADD THOSE TOGETHER, IT'S A THIRD OF OUR CASES, OUR SCHOOL AGE AND WE'RE SEEING IT IN THE REPORTS. I THINK WE HAD 17 CASES IN DISTRICT YESTERDAY, SO WE ARE REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO THE VACCINE BEING AVAILABLE. I KNOW THERE WAS A LOT OF NEWS OUT TODAY ON THAT. NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE. THE FIVE TO 11 YEAR OLD COVID VACCINE UPDATE IS THAT PFIZER TODAY RECOMMENDED FOR EMERGENCY USE AUTHORIZATION BY THE FDA, SO NOW IT WILL GO TO THE CDC. THE PANEL VOTED AND UNANIMOUSLY WITH ONE ABSTENTION THAT RECOMMENDED THAT IT BE APPROVED. IT IS. IT IS A LESSER DOSE THAN WHAT ADULTS GET, WHICH WOULD MAKE SENSE. BUT ALSO CHILDREN HAVE A LITTLE BETTER IMMUNE SYSTEM AND THEY REACT A LITTLE BETTER AND BUILD UP ANTIBODIES AND THINGS. SO WE'RE HOPING THAT WE'RE ABLE TO TO GET THAT THROUGH THE CDC. IT'S GOING TO CDC NEXT WEEK AND THEN IT'LL BE AN EMERGENCY USE AS LONG AS IT'S A PUBLIC HEALTH CRISIS. THIS IS NOT THE OFFICIAL APPROVAL OF OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT. IT IS AN EMERGENCY USE ONLY. THE CDC WILL THEN MAKE THE DETERMINATION, AND WE'RE THINKING THAT WE COULD SEE VACCINES AS EARLY AS THE SECOND WEEK IN NOVEMBER, AND THAT DATE HAS CHANGED AND SHIFTED JUST A SMIDGE. WE ARE PUSHING HARD TO WORK WITH OUR SEATTLE VISITING NURSES. THEY ARE AN AMAZING PARTNER WHO DOES A FLU CLINICS THE OTHER IMMUNIZATION CLINICS, AND THEY'VE DONE OUR COVID CLINICS. THEY THEY REALLY HAVE JUST COME TO THE TABLE AND CONTINUE TO MEET THE NEEDS OF OUR COMMUNITY. ALONG WITH SNOHOMISH, HEALTH DISTRICT HAS ALSO BEEN AN INCREDIBLE PARTNER ON OUR IMMUNIZATION EFFORTS WITH THE TWO OF THEM. WE WOULD LOVE, LOVE, LOVE TO HAVE CLINICS ON SITE. I THINK THAT REMOVES A LOT OF BARRIERS FOR OUR FAMILIES MAKES IT EASY. RIGHT NOW, WE KNOW THAT THIS IS CONTINGENT UPON THE THE AMOUNT OF VACCINE THAT WE'RE ABLE TO GET IN THOSE DOSAGES. SO IF WE CAN GET ENOUGH AND AND PARTNER WITH THEM, WE WILL BE ABLE TO HAVE SOME ON SITE VACCINE CLINICS. RIGHT NOW, IT'S LOOKING LIKE IT'S GOING TO BE A PHARMACY, PHARMACIES AND PEDIATRICIANS. BUT WE ALL KNOW THAT THAT DOES PROVIDE SOME BARRIERS FOR SOME OF OUR FAMILIES BECAUSE IT INVOLVES GETTING SOMEWHERE THAT HAS IT. IT ALSO INVOLVES AN APPOINTMENT IN THOSE KIND OF THINGS. SO WE WILL CONTINUE TO WORK REALLY DILIGENTLY TO TO PRESENT THAT OPPORTUNITY FOR OUR FAMILIES. NEXT SLIDE. IN DISTRICT IN THE PAST TWO WEEKS, WE HAVE GIVEN SEVENTY FOUR, SEVENTY NO, SEVEN HUNDRED FORTY PCR TESTS. OUR TEAM HAS DONE NINETY FOUR INVESTIGATIONS AND ONE HUNDRED AND SIX POSITIVE REPRESENT POSITIVE CASES, SIX CLASSROOM CLOSURES, FOUR OF WHICH CAUSED THE CLOSURE OF FOUR OF WHICH THIS CLASSROOM CLOSURES, ALONG WITH A NUMBER OF CASES AND SOME OTHER RECOMMENDATIONS FROM THE SNOHOMISH COUNTY HEALTH, RESULTED IN THE CLOSURE OF MADRONA, WHICH I KNOW YOU WERE ALL AWARE OF. THE CLOSURE OF ONE EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITY AND THREE HUNDRED AND FIFTY SIX STUDENTS AND 15 STAFF HAVE BEEN QUARANTINED IN THE LAST TWO WEEKS. SO WE ARE SEEING SOME BREAKTHROUGH CASES FOR SOME OF OUR STAFF AND OLDER STUDENTS. SO THAT DELTA VARIANT CONTINUES TO BE POTENT AND CONTAGIOUS, AND ALL OF THE THINGS AND [00:35:02] MITIGATING STRATEGIES, ARE STILL CRITICAL. IT'S IMPORTANT THAT WE'RE STILL DOING ALL THE THINGS THAT WE KNOW WORK SOCIAL DISTANCING SIX FEET AWAY, NOT SPENDING MORE THAN 15 MINUTES WITH PEOPLE, EVEN MASKS WHEN WE'RE MASKED UP AS WE ALWAYS ARE IN BUILDING ALL OF THOSE THINGS, NOT SHARING LUNCH TIMES TOGETHER IN CLOSE PROXIMITY AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. ALL OF THOSE THINGS ARE CRITICAL TO KEEPING KEEPING THIS AT BAY. ANY QUESTIONS ON THAT? ALL RIGHT. TO OUR NEXT SLIDE. HELEN. THANK YOU. JUST A QUICK ACADEMIC UPDATE, AND AS WE ALL KNOW, SENSE OF BELONGING REALLY HAS A STRONG CORRELATION TO THE SUCCESS OF OUR STUDENTS. SO RIGHT NOW, A LOT OF OUR SCHOOLS ARE FOCUSING ON SENSE OF BELONGING, AND ANOTHER UPDATE IS THAT OUR SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT PLANS HAVE BEEN SUBMITTED EVEN DURING THIS DIFFICULT PANDEMIC. OUR SCHOOLS ARE ROCKING IT AND FOCUS ON IMPROVEMENT AND DOING WHAT THEY CAN WITH THE DATA THAT THEY CAN TO CREATE GOALS AND ALL OF THOSE THINGS. SO KUDOS TO OUR PRINCIPALS, OUR SCHOOL LEADERS, ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS AND ALSO SCHOOL STAFF. THEY'VE DONE A REALLY NICE JOB AND IT WAS A VERY HEAVY LIFT. I DON'T THINK ANY OTHER DISTRICT INTRODUCE SOMETHING LIKE THIS AT THIS TIME OF YEAR AND DURING A PANDEMIC, BUT IT JUST SHOWS THAT WE HAVE PEOPLE IN OUR SYSTEM COMMITTED TO DOING WHAT'S BEST FOR KIDS, AND THAT'S HOW I TRANSLATE THEIR EFFORTS. SCHOOL STAFF ARE ALSO WORKING VERY HARD TO GATHER STUDENT DATA. WE'VE HAD NOT ENOUGH DATA, I THINK, BECAUSE OF THE PANDEMIC. SO THEY'RE DOING ALL SORTS OF ASSESSMENTS AND NOT JUST BENCHMARK ASSESSMENTS, BUT CLASSROOM BASED ASSESSMENTS, CURRICULUM EMBEDDED ASSESSMENTS AND [INAUDIBLE] KIDS DATA IS COMING AND BEING GATHERED RIGHT NOW. SO. AND THAT'S A REALLY GOOD SIGN TO REALLY PORTRAY LIKE WE WE WANT A VERY GOOD PICTURE OF THE STORY OF A STUDENT AND NOT ONE ASSESSMENT. AND THERE'S NO PERFECT ASSESSMENT DOES THAT. AND WHEN OUR SCHOOLS HAVE MULTIPLE ASSESSMENTS TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY CAN HAVE THAT STORY ACCURATELY AS POSSIBLE, IT'S A REALLY GOOD SIGN. SO I'M REALLY EXCITED TO SHARE WITH YOU OUR SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT PLANS. AND WE DO HAVE A WAYS TO GO. IT'S A WORK IN PROGRESS, BUT THEY'LL BE COMING NOVEMBER 9TH. WE'RE GOING TO BE HAVING A SPECIAL SESSION FOR YOU TO ASK QUESTIONS. SO AGAIN, THANK YOU TO ALL SCHOOL STAFF AND OUR FAMILIES FOR HANGING IN THERE AND JUST COLLABORATING TO DO OUR BEST FOR OUR CHILDREN. NEXT SLIDE. I JUST WANTED TO END ON A POSITIVE NOTE AND SHARE THAT ALL OF OUR HIGH SCHOOLS WERE ABLE TO HOLD A REALLY COOL HOMECOMING CELEBRATIONS AT THEIR SCHOOLS. THEY GOT CREATIVE AND WE GOT LUCKY WITH WEATHER. EVERYTHING WAS HELD EVERYTHING OUTDOORS THIS YEAR, USING EITHER OUTDOOR FACILITIES AT THE SCHOOL OR AT THE STADIUM, AT EDMONDS STADIUM. AND I THINK ALL THE PRINCIPALS REPORTED THAT ATTENDANCE AT THESE EVENTS WAS THROUGH THE ROOF. THE KIDS WERE JUST SO EXCITED TO HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO GET TOGETHER AND CELEBRATE AND DO SOMETHING THAT FELT AT LEAST A LITTLE BIT MORE TOWARD BEING NORMAL. SO MY HAT'S OFF TO ALL OF OUR PRINCIPALS AND THEIR STAFFS THAT WERE ABLE TO PUT TOGETHER SUCH WONDERFUL CELEBRATIONS FOR THE STUDENTS AND ALLOW THEM AN OPPORTUNITY TO COME TOGETHER AND AND DO IT AND DO IT OUTDOORS IN A WAY THAT WAS SAFE. THANKS, GREG, AND THANKS, STAFF. DR. KILGORE, I WONDER IF IF THE STUDENTS WOULD LIKE TO SHARE ANY ANY INFORMATION ABOUT WHAT THEY'VE HEARD IF POSSIBLE. YEAH, LET'S OPEN IT UP TO OUR STUDENTS. ARE YOU ANYTHING? ANY RESPONSE TO WHAT YOU'VE HEARD FROM THE REPORTS, OR DO YOU HAVE INFORMATION TO SHARE ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCES ON THE GROUND? HOW WAS HOMECOMING? YEAH, I'D JUST LIKE TO SHARE HOW OUR HOMECOMING CELEBRATIONS WENT. WE WERE ABLE TO HAVE LIKE A LITTLE. IT WAS LIKE A PEP RALLY THING BEFORE SCHOOLS. THAT WAS REALLY FUN. WE HAD OUR BAND AND OUR CHEERLEADING TEAM AND THAT WAS PRETTY COOL. BUT YEAH, LAST SATURDAY, WE WERE SUPPOSED TO HAVE SORRY LAST FRIDAY. WE DIDN'T HAVE SCHOOL. WE WERE SUPPOSED TO HAVE LIKE OUR BIG HOMECOMING GAME. BUT THEN IT GOT CANCELED BECAUSE OF COVID, WHICH IS UNDERSTANDABLE. BUT IT'S REALLY SAD FOR A LOT OF STUDENTS SINCE WE WEREN'T GOING TO HAVE THE HOMECOMING DANCE ANYWAYS, THAT WAS GOING TO BE LIKE THE BIG THING. BUT YEAH, THAT'S A BUMMER. BUT WE UNDERSTAND THAT DUE TO COVID, THAT WAS NECESSARY TO CANCEL IT. YEAH, SO. A LOT OF OUR GAMES BEFORE THE HOMECOMING. [00:40:01] LIKE FOR FOOTBALL, SEEM TO BE KEPT GETTING CANCELED BECAUSE OF COVID, I THINK, BUT LUCKILY FOR THE HOMECOMING GAME, WE STILL WE GOT TO PLAY. I MEAN, I DIDN'T GO TO THAT, THOUGH, BECAUSE I HAD WORK, BUT I THINK IT WAS GOOD. AND THEN A. I THINK WE HAD A PEP RALLY BEFORE HOMECOMING, I BELIEVE WE HAD OURS A FEW WEEKS AGO, I THINK, AND. IT WAS OUR FIRST OUTSIDE ASSEMBLY WHERE WE JUST DID IT AT OUR FOOTBALL FIELD, AT OUR SCHOOL. AND. IT WAS KIND OF. IT WAS KIND OF WEIRD BECAUSE LIKE YOU COULDN'T SEE EVERYTHING LIKE WE COULD IN AN INSIDE IN OUR GYM, NOT EVERYONE GOT A FAIR EYESIGHT OF THE CHEERLEADERS DOING THEIR THING AND THERE THE DANCERS DOING THEIR PERFORMANCE. NOT EVERYONE CAN SEE IT. IT WAS MORE OF LIKE A BIG CIRCULAR CROWD, SO IT WASN'T WHERE EVERYONE COULD SEE WHAT WAS HAPPENING. SO THAT KIND OF STUFF. BUT THE HOMECOMING WAS REALLY GOOD. IT WAS. IT WAS AT THE EDMONDS STADIUM AND IT WAS REALLY FUN BECAUSE THEY HAD LIKE SPIKE BALL, BADMINTON, ALL THIS EPIC STUFF. AND I HAD A REALLY FUN TIME AT HOMECOMING. I PERSONALLY DID NOT GO TO LYNNWOOD HOMECOMING DANCE PARTY. I MEAN, THAT'S NOT REALLY MY THING TO GO TO, BUT HEARING FROM A LOT OF FRIENDS IS SOUND LIKE IT WAS REALLY FUN AND SEEING SOME PHOTOS AND SUCH. THE HOMECOMING GAME, THE FOOTBALL GAME, THE FRIDAY BEFORE WAS ALSO NICE THERE WAS A BIG TURNOUT. EVERYTHING WAS REALLY GOOD AND FUN. YEAH, I AGREE WITH ALL MY PEERS SAID PERSONALLY AT EDMONDS, THE WAY LIKE LIA SAID WE DIDN'T GET TO HAVE LIKE A HOMECOMING GAME LIKE THAT EVENT, BUT IT WAS STILL REALLY GOOD AND FUN TO STILL HAVE, LIKE THE CHANCE TO STILL DO LIKE SPIRIT WEEKS AND JUST ENJOY BECAUSE LAST YEAR, BECAUSE IT WAS ALL ONLINE, WE DIDN'T REALLY HAVE THAT KIND OF SCHOOL SPIRIT. BUT THEN, NOW THAT WE'RE BACK, I FELT MORE OF A SENSE OF UNITY, AND I THINK THAT WAS A REALLY GOOD OPPORTUNITY. THANK YOU, STUDENTS, AND WE'LL HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY FOR YOU TO SPEAK LATER. THINK ABOUT I'D BE CURIOUS TO KNOW WHAT ELSE IS GOING ON IN TERMS OF HOW COVID IS AFFECTING YOUR EXPERIENCE AT SCHOOL AND IF IF YOU HAVE FURTHER COMMENTS LATER IN THE MEETING, I'D BE INTERESTED TO HEAR WHAT'S WHAT'S NEW AND DIFFERENT, WHAT'S CHALLENGING, WHAT'S HELPFUL, THOSE SORTS OF THINGS. AND THANK YOU. MOVING ON. OK. OUR NEXT OUR NEXT REPORT IS FROM CAPITAL PROJECTS. TURN OVER TO LYDIA SELLIE, AND ALSO WE DO HAVE ED PETERS HERE AS WELL AND THEN PROVIDE AN OVERVIEW OF OUR LEVY PROGRAM. LYDIA. THANK YOU. YES, I WANTED TO HAVE A NORMAL HAPPY MOMENT WHERE WE CAN TALK ABOUT THE PROGRESS OF OUR CAPITAL PROJECTS TEAM. AND HERE TO PRESENT TONIGHT IS ED PETERS, SO PLEASE TAKE IT AWAY. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. I APPRECIATE THIS OPPORTUNITY. AND WE DO ACTUALLY HAVE SOME A LOT OF GOOD NEWS, A LOT OF GOOD STORIES TO TELL. I'M GOING TO RUN THROUGH PRETTY QUICKLY THE REPORT THAT WAS IN YOUR PACKET. THERE'S, I THINK, FIVE OR SIX SLIDES. AND AFTER EACH PROJECT, I'LL BE HAPPY TO TAKE QUESTIONS AT ANY TIME. BUT IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT A PARTICULAR PROJECT, LET ME KNOW. I'LL MENTION IT AT THAT TIME. AND THEN IF YOU THINK OF SOMETHING LATER, WE'LL TALK ABOUT IT AS WELL. SO IF I COULD HAVE THE NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE. FIRST UP, I WANT TO TALK ABOUT THE MAJOR SCHOOL REPLACEMENT CONSTRUCTION PROJECT WE HAVE UNDER UNDERWAY, WHICH IS PHASE TWO OF SPRUCE. THE SHORT VERSION IS THAT THIS PROJECT IS GOING REALLY WELL ON TIME ON BUDGET. WE WERE VERY BUSY THIS SUMMER, TAKING DOWN THE OLD BUILDING AND PUTTING IN THE DOING THE [00:45:03] EARTH WORK AND FOUNDATIONS AND UTILITY WORK FOR THE NEW ACADEMIC WING. IN THE SHORT TIME SINCE WE SUBMITTED THIS REPORT, WE'VE ACTUALLY DONE A WHOLE BUNCH MORE WORK THAT DOESN'T SHOW IN THESE PHOTOGRAPHS AND HAVE MADE GREAT PROGRESS DESPITE THE FACT THAT THERE WAS A CARPENTER STRIKE THAT RAN ABOUT ALMOST THREE WEEKS. BUT WHEN WE FIRST GOT NOTICE THAT THAT WAS A POSSIBILITY EARLY IN THE SUMMER, [INAUDIBLE] WILTON AND LAURA [INAUDIBLE], TOGETHER WITH THE ARCHITECTS AT BASSETTI, GOT TOGETHER WITH BN BUILDERS AND STARTED DEVELOPING A SET OF CONTINGENCY PLANS FOR WHAT WE WOULD DO, DEPENDING ON WHETHER THE STRIKE HAPPENED AND WHAT KIND OF DURATION IT HAD. AND AS A RESULT, WE WERE READY, BN SEQUENCED THEIR WORK TO MINIMIZE THE IMPACT AND THROUGH A SMALL AMOUNT OF OVERTIME, WE'RE CATCHING UP. CAN I HAVE THE NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE. AND IN FACT, ALL THIS, IF YOU WALK TO THESE SAME AREAS THAT YOU'RE SEEING IN THESE PHOTOGRAPHS, YOU WOULD SEE THAT THE SLABS ARE BEING THE FINAL SLABS AND FOUNDATIONS ARE BEING POURED. STEEL HAS ARRIVED. THE STRUCTURAL STEEL HAS ARRIVED ON THE SITE AND STARTED TO ARRIVE, AND WE WILL START ERECTING STRUCTURAL STEEL IN ABOUT TWO WEEKS. AND SO YOU'LL START TO ACTUALLY SEE THE BUILDING COME UP OUT OF THE GROUND. AND WE'RE ABSOLUTELY ON SCHEDULE AND WE'LL BE ABLE TO OPEN IN TIME NEXT FALL. YOU MAY ALSO HAVE SEEN SOME OF THE WORK THAT BN BUILDERS HAS BEEN DOING IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE STUDENTS. THEY ARE CONSISTENT WITH WHAT THEY DID DURING PHASE ONE WHEN THE SCHOOL WAS THERE ON SITE. THEY DID A SERIES OF PRESENTATIONS ABOUT CONSTRUCTION AND BASIC LESSONS, AND THEY'RE NOW DOING THOSE BY VIDEOS, AND THERE WAS ONE THAT WAS SHARED WITH THE COMMUNITY ABOUT HOW TO CALCULATE VOLUME. AND I THOUGHT IT WAS REALLY COOL BECAUSE IT WAS STUFF THAT WAS VERY, VERY IMMEDIATE AND CONNECTED TO SOMETHING THAT THE STUDENTS KNEW ABOUT COULD ACTUALLY SEE THAT, THAT THIS WAS HOW YOU CALCULATED THE VOLUME OF SOMETHING THAT WAS GOING TO BE THE FLOOR THEY'RE GOING TO STAND ON. IN ANOTHER YEAR, AND IT ACTUALLY HELPED WAS HOW YOU ACTUALLY FIGURE OUT HOW MANY TRUCKS FULL OF CONCRETE YOU NEEDED TO CREATE THAT FLOOR. AND THEY ARE CONTINUING TO DO THAT. ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT SPRUCE? AND [INAUDIBLE] IF YOU THINK OF SOMETHING LATER ON, WE CAN COME BACK TO IT. AND I JUST WANT TO SAY IT, IT REALLY WARMS MY HEART TO HEAR THAT THE PEOPLE WHO ARE INVOLVED IN THE BUILDING ARE DOING THESE PRESENTATIONS FOR THE KIDS AND HELPING TO MAKE THE CONNECTIONS BETWEEN REAL LIFE AND THE THINGS THEY'RE STUDYING IN SCHOOL. SO THEY SEE WHY THEY'RE LEARNING ABOUT VOLUME AND OTHER KINDS OF THINGS AND HOW IT PLAYS OUT IN THE REAL WORLD. IT'S GREAT. THANK YOU. YEAH, NOW AND IT WAS THEIR IDEA. WE WERE REALLY PLEASED TO HAVE SUCH A SUCH A GOOD PARTNER. ANY OTHER QUESTIONS ABOUT ABOUT SPRUCE? OK, WELL, THEN MOVING ALONG NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE. TO THE OTHER MAJOR SCHOOL REPLACEMENT PROJECT THAT WE HAVE UNDERWAY, WHICH IS THE REPLACEMENT OF OAK HEIGHTS ELEMENTARY, WE HAVE JUST BEGUN THE PLANNING PROCESS. WE HAVE FORMED A DESIGN REVIEW COMMITTEE WITH DISTRICT AND SCHOOL SITE LEVEL PEOPLE AS WELL AS SOME PARENTS. AND OUR FIRST TASK HAS BEEN TO REVIEW THE STANDARDS THAT THE DISTRICT CAME UP WITH IN 2014 FOR WHAT SHOULD BE IN AN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, WHAT WE CALL AN EDUCATIONAL SPECIFICATION. WE ARE REVIEWING THAT 2014 DISTRICT WIDE STANDARD, BOTH BY DISCUSSING IT, BUT ALSO BY TOURING THREE OF THE SCHOOLS THAT WERE BUILT USING THAT USING THAT FRAMEWORK. AND THEN AT THE BEGINNING OF 2022, WE WILL START IN JANUARY. WE WILL START DEVELOPING UPDATING A SPECIFICATION FOR OAK HEIGHTS BASED ON THE LESSONS LEARNED. IT WAS A PRETTY GOOD STANDARD WHEN WE DEVELOPED IT IN 2014, BUT WE'VE LEARNED SOME THINGS AND THE WORLD CONTINUES TO MOVE ON. SO WE ARE GOING TO TO UPDATE IT. I'D BE HAPPY TO SAY SAY MORE ABOUT IT, I'D LIKE TO KNOW IF YOU HAVE ANY, AS I SAY, WE'VE [00:50:06] JUST STARTED. WE'VE HAD THREE MEETINGS SO FAR, INCLUDING ONE TOUR OF MADRONA K8. I'D BEEN HAPPY TO TAKE ANY QUESTIONS OR IF THERE ARE ANY CONCERNS ABOUT OAK HEIGHTS. WE ARE GENERATING A LOT OF MATERIAL, INCLUDING VIDEOS AND STUFF THAT WE CAN CERTAINLY MAKE AVAILABLE IF MEMBERS OF BOARD WANT WANT TO TAKE A LOOK AT THOSE. AND THIS IS CARIN JUST REALLY HAPPY TO SEE PROGRESS GOING, SO THANK YOU SO MUCH. OK, GOOD. YEAH, AND IT REALLY IS EXCITING. THIS IS SOMETHING WE'VE BEEN WANTING TO DO FOR A LONG TIME AND WE REALLY ARE DELIGHTED TO HAVE KICKED IT OFF. THEN MOVING ON, KEEPING NEXT, MOVING AGAIN, KEEPING OF THE PLANNING MODE. WE ARE RIGHT NOW IN THE PLANNING AND DESIGN PHASE OF THE IMPROVEMENTS TO THE EDUCATIONAL SERVICES CENTER, A NEW ROOF, NEW HEATING, VENTILATION, NEW LIGHTING. WE HOPE TO CONSTRUCT ALL OF THAT NEXT SUMMER, BUT WE'RE IN THE PROCESS OF WORKING WITH THE CONTRACTOR AND THE DESIGN TEAM TO FIGURE ALL THAT OUT. AND IT LOOKS LIKE WE WILL BE ABLE TO DO THE THINGS THAT WE WANTED TO DO DESPITE VARIOUS SUPPLY CHAIN AND. INFLATION CONCERNS. IT'S ALL LOOKING VERY FEASIBLE. ANY QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS ABOUT THAT? GOING BACK WITH OAK HEIGHTS, WHAT'S THE TIMELINE FROM OAK HEIGHTS? WE ACTUALLY WOULD PROBABLY WE WOULD UNDER THE LEVY FUNDING IF IF THAT IS WHAT WE HAVE AVAILABLE AT THIS POINT, IT IS WHAT WE HAVE AVAILABLE. WE WOULD START CONSTRUCTION. I BELIEVE IN 2025 BECAUSE WE ONLY CAN SPEND THE MONEY AS WE COLLECT IT. IT'S NOT LIKE A BOND WHERE YOU CAN BORROW MONEY IN ADVANCE AND THEN PAY IT OFF. WE WON'T ACTUALLY HAVE THE FUNDING TO START CONSTRUCTION UNTIL 2025, BUT WE THINK IT'S VALUABLE TO START THE PLANNING PROCESS NOW. FIRST OF ALL, IF WE ARE FORTUNATE AND ABLE TO OBTAIN OTHER KINDS OF FUNDING WE'LL BE READY. AND BUT SECONDLY. THE COUNTY PLANNING PROCESS AND PERMITTING PROCESS THAT WE HAVE TO GO THROUGH AT THAT PARTICULAR SITE IS QUITE LENGTHY AND EXTENSIVE. BESIDES THE NORMAL BUILDING PERMIT PROCESS, THERE IS A SPECIAL LAND USE PROCESS BECAUSE THAT AREA AROUND THE PARK AND RIDE HAS A SPECIAL ZONING DESIGNATION, AND THERE'S A WHOLE BUNCH OF STEPS THAT WE HAVE TO GO THROUGH THAT ARE, YOU KNOW, WE'VE ALREADY MET WITH THE COUNTY TO DISCUSS THAT. AND THEY'RE BEING VERY COOPERATIVE. BUT THEY ALSO BEING HONEST IN SAYING IT'S GOING TO TAKE A LONG TIME. SO, SO SO IT'S NOT INAPPROPRIATE TO START NOW AND BE READY FOR THAT. SO THAT'S WHERE WE ARE. SO DOES THAT TELL YOU WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW? WELL, THANK THANK YOU VERY MUCH ED. YOU BET. THEN STAYING IN THE PLANNING MODE, IF I CAN HAVE THE NEXT SLIDE. WE HAVE COMPLETED AND ACTUALLY HAVE JUST RECEIVED APPROVAL FROM OSPI OF THE DOCUMENT THEY CALL STUDY AND SURVEY, WHICH IS SOMETHING THAT WE HAVE TO SUBMIT TO THEM TO REMAIN ELIGIBLE FOR STATE CONSTRUCTION ASSISTANCE FUNDING. WE ACTUALLY PRESENTED THIS TO YOU EARLIER IN THE SUMMER, AND IT HAS NOW BEEN ACCEPTED BY OSBI. THE LARGEST COMPONENT OF THAT IS AN EVALUATION OF ALL OUR BUILDINGS. A VERY DETAILED PHYSICAL CONDITION ASSESSMENT. AND THEN ALSO DIAGRAMS DOCUMENTING EXACTLY THE AMOUNT OF SQUARE FOOTAGE THERE IS IN EACH BUILDING. AND THIS IS THE YEAR IT'S ON A SIX YEAR CYCLE, AND THIS IS THE YEAR THAT WE ACTUALLY HAVE TO BRING IN AN INDEPENDENT THIRD PARTY. IN THIS CASE, IT WAS HENRY KLEIN. WELL, I STILL THINK OF THEM AS HENRY KLEIN ARCHITECTS, HKP ARCHITECTS WHO PERFORMED THAT INDEPENDENT REVIEW OF ALL OUR DATA, AND IT HAS BEEN ACCEPTED BY THE STATE AND SO SO THAT FOR BOTH THE SPRUCE AND OAK HEIGHTS PROJECTS, WE WILL BE GETTING STATE ASSISTANCE. [00:55:01] ANY QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS ABOUT THAT? ED, IT'S ANN SO WE HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL AFTER. THESE PROJECTS ARE COMPLETED BEFORE WE'LL KNOW WHAT THE STATE IS GOING TO REIMBURSE BACK ? NO THAT WE WE THERE IS A MULTI-STAGE PROCESS WE GO THROUGH, BUT THEY DO ACTUALLY MAKE A COMMITMENT BEFORE WE START CONSTRUCTION. AS TO THE AMOUNT THAT WE WILL GET, WE WON'T COLLECT IT UNTIL THE END OF CONSTRUCTION. BUT BUT THEY DO ACTUALLY AT THE I BELIEVE IT'S THE D9 FORM PROCESS WHERE AT THE START OF CONSTRUCTION, THEY ACTUALLY DO SAY THAT ASSUMING WE MEET ALL THE REQUIREMENTS, THAT THIS IS THE AMOUNT WE WILL GET. AND WE HAVE AND WE HAVE AN ESTIMATE AND WE CAN ESTIMATE IT REASONABLY ACCURATELY IN ADVANCE OF THAT. CAN WE REASONABLY ESTIMATE WHEN WE WILL RECEIVE THE THE AMOUNT AFTER COMPLETION? YEAH. YES. USUALLY BASED ON PAST EXPERIENCE, USUALLY IN GENERAL, THE WAY IT WORKS IS WE HAVE A SHARE, WHICH IS ABOUT EIGHTY FIVE PERCENT OF THE COST AND WE HAVE TO PAY ALL OF THAT. WE HAVE TO COMPLETELY SPEND OUR EIGHTY FIVE PERCENT BEFORE THEY WILL CONSIDER GIVING US THEIR SHARE. AND THEN AS WE WE DO THAT, WE SUBMIT MONTHLY STATEMENTS AND THEY. SO, SO BY THE YOU KNOW, BY THE TIME CONSTRUCTION ENDS, THEY WILL HAVE STARTED TO PAY US AND THEY'RE PRETTY GOOD, YOU KNOW WHAT WE DO, MAKE SURE THAT WE STAY CURRENT WITH WITH THE PAPERWORK SO THAT WE DO GET REIMBURSED PROMPTLY. IT'S TO OUR ADVANTAGE TO DO THAT. AND SHARON JAMES IN HER OFFICE IS VERY GOOD ABOUT STAYING ON TOP OF THAT. IF WE DIDN'T DO THAT, IT COULD BE DELAYED MUCH LONGER. ED COULD YOU EXPLAIN? AND I MIGHT JUST BE COMPLETELY MISSING IT, BUT WHAT THE TWO NUMBERS HERE ARE TO THE RIGHT, THE GRANT AMOUNT AND THE TOTAL COST? YEAH. THE STATE REQUIRES THAT WE DO THIS STUDY AND THEY GIVE US LIKE TWO CENTS PER SQUARE FOOT. THERE'S SOME THERE'S NO FORMULA FOR THE MILLION, TWO AND A HALF MILLION SQUARE FEET OF BUILDINGS THAT WE HAVE. WE ARE EVERY SIX YEARS. WE ARE ENTITLED TO A GRANT TO FUND THIS REQUIRED STUDY, WHICH WAS AND THEY GAVE US ABOUT $50000 USING THAT FORMULA. IT ACTUALLY COST ABOUT SEVENTY ONE THOUSAND. TO TO COMPLETE THE STUDY, SO THAT'S THAT'S WHAT WE'RE INDICATING HERE. SO WE WE HAD TO PAY ANOTHER TWENTY ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS TO REMAIN ELIGIBLE FOR THE STATE CONSTRUCTION ASSISTANCE. DOES THAT MAKE SENSE? YEAH, BUT SO WE DON'T KNOW WHAT THE STATE CONSTRUCTION ASSISTANCE WILL BE? WELL, WE HAVE A REASONABLE WE HAVE A PRETTY REASONABLE ESTIMATE. YOU KNOW, THE THE THERE ARE SOME FACTORS THAT THE LEGISLATURE COULD ADJUST UPWARDS. I MEAN, IT'S ALWAYS BEEN UPWARDS, BUT WE KNOW THE AMOUNT PER SQUARE FOOT THAT THEY WILL PAY. THERE'S A VERY COMPLICATED FORMULA THAT DETERMINES THAT WE HAVE RUN THOSE NUMBERS. AND SO WE HAVE A PRETTY GOOD ESTIMATE. DON'T DON'T WRITE THIS DOWN, YOU KNOW, BECAUSE I'M DOING IT OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD FROM MEMORY. BUT FOR EXAMPLE, ON SPRUCE, WE MIGHT GET ON THE ORDER OF FOUR, FOUR AND A HALF MILLION DOLLARS. AND WE KNOW IT'S GOING TO BE IN THAT RANGE. I JUST CAN'T TELL YOU WHETHER IT'S FOUR MILLION THREE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY FIVE THOUSAND TWO HUNDRED AND THIRTY EIGHT DOLLARS AND 14 CENTS OR TWENTY FIVE CENTS, YOU KNOW, I MEAN. AND WE WON'T KNOW THAT UNTIL WE'RE GET TO THE ABSOLUTE END AND SUBMIT ALL THE BUILDINGS AND THEY CRANK IT THROUGH THEIR FORMULAS AND STUFF. BUT BUT IT'S, YOU KNOW, WE KNOW WITHIN A FEW PERCENTAGE POINTS WHAT WE'RE LIKELY TO GET. IS THAT DOES THAT HELP? YES, IT DOES THANK YOU VERY MUCH. SO IF THERE ARE NO OTHER QUESTIONS ABOUT STUDY AND SURVEY, WE CAN MOVE ON TO PROJECTS THAT WE DO HAVE UNDER CONSTRUCTION. ACTUALLY, WE HAVE NICK CHOU AND HIS ASSISTANTS, MICHAEL NELSON AND LAURA BOWERS HAVE BEEN ALSO VERY BUSY. THE ROOFS AT BRIER TERRACE MIDDLE AND HAZELWOOD ARE LARGELY COMPLETE. [01:00:05] THIS IS YOU'RE LOOKING AT AT BRIER TERRACE MIDDLE, WHICH HAS A LOT OF ROOF. THIS WAS A REALLY BIG PROJECT AND GETTING IT ALL DONE SO THEY COULD OPEN SCHOOL IN SEPTEMBER WAS QUITE A CHALLENGE, BUT THEY DID MANAGE TO DO IT. THERE'S STILL A LITTLE BIT OF DETAIL WORK ON SOME OF THE VENTILATION CONNECTIONS AND A FEW THINGS LIKE THAT, BUT THEY WERE ABLE TO WORK THROUGH IT AND OVERCOME AGAIN SOME SUPPLY CHAIN ISSUES. AND BOTH THOSE SCHOOLS NOW HAVE NEW ROOF JUST IN TIME FOR THE RAIN. SO THAT'S A GOOD THING. THEY WERE ALSO INVOLVED IN MOVING A BUNCH OF PORTABLES THIS SUMMER. WE'VE FREED UP FIVE PORTABLES FROM SPRUCE THREE WENT TO THE WOODWAY CENTER AND TWO TO MARTHA LAKE ELEMENTARY, AND THEN WE ALSO MOVED RELOCATE FROM HAZELWOOD TO TERRACE PARK. AND THERE'S MORE TO THAT THAN YOU WOULD THINK. THERE'S ALL KINDS OF PERMITTING AND UTILITY ISSUES AND THINGS THAT HAVE TO BE DONE, BUT THAT THAT ALL HAPPENED IN TIME FOR THAT TO TAKE TAKE PLACE. I'LL GO TO THE NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE. SO ED, I JUST WANTED. OH, THAT'S OKAY. I JUST WANTED TO JUST COMMENT. YOU KNOW, I LOVE THAT WE'VE GOT THESE NEW ROOFS AND I LOOK AT THAT PICTURE. AND JUST THE FIRST THING THAT COMES TO MIND IS SOLAR. WHAT WE'D LOVE TO DO IT. OK, I THINK THAT WE MAY NEED TO BE TALKING ABOUT THAT SOON BECAUSE, OH MY GOSH, THAT LOOKS LIKE A WONDERFUL SPOT TO HAVE A SOLAR SET SOLAR SETUP. YES, ABSOLUTELY. IF YOU HAVE NO OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS. NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE. AND I'M PARTICULARLY PLEASED ABOUT THIS THAT. YOU MAY REMEMBER THAT THE BOILER AT CEDAR WAY, WHICH GOES BACK TO THE SIXTIES, LOOK LIKE SOMETHING THAT WAS SALVAGED FROM THE TITANIC. AND WE WERE ABLE TO REPLACE IT AND. I THINK SOMETHING I'M ALWAYS REALLY GLAD WHEN WE CAN SALVAGE THINGS. SOME BOARD MEMBERS MAY REMEMBER THAT ABOUT 10 YEARS AGO. WE REPLACE THE BOILER AT SPRUCE, WHICH ALSO HAD AN OLD BOILER AND PUT IN A VERY NICE MODERN BOILER. WHEN WE BUILD A NEW SPRUCE, WE WANTED WANTED TO PUT IN BRAND NEW EQUIPMENT SO THAT IT WOULD LAST AS LONG AS THE BUILDING AND ALSO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF ADVANCES IN TECHNOLOGY SINCE THEN. BUT WE HAD THESE BOILERS THAT WERE ACTUALLY QUITE GOOD AND HAD LIFE IN THEM. YOU HAD AND WERE MUCH, MUCH MORE ENERGY EFFICIENT THAN WHAT WAS AT CEDAR WAY, AND THAT BOILER WAS ON ITS LAST LEGS ANYWAY. SO WE WERE ABLE TO REUSE SOME EQUIPMENT THAT WE HAD AND PUT IT IN AT CEDAR WAY. AND NOW THEY HAVE HAVE A MUCH BETTER, MUCH MORE ENERGY EFFICIENT BOILER AND WE'LL GET SOME, SOME ADDITIONAL LIFE OUT OF THAT. AND I JUST WANT TO CLOSE WITH THE LITTLE NOTE ON THIS SLIDE. THE LAST ITEM IS THAT WE ARE IN THE PROCESS OF GETTING READY FOR PROJECTS FOR NEXT SUMMER. AND YOU WILL START TO SEE ITEMS ON YOUR AGENDA RELATED TO THESE TO THESE VARIOUS PROJECTS. I'VE MENTIONED SOME OF THE PEOPLE INVOLVED ALL ALONG, BUT I WANT TO TELL YOU THAT YOU HAVE A REALLY GOOD CREW DOING THESE PROJECTS. THEY'VE BEEN DOING TERRIFIC WORK AND THEY'VE ALSO BEEN WORKING VERY CLOSELY WITH THEIR COLLEAGUES IN ALL THE OTHER DEPARTMENTS. AND THIS SUMMER, FOR EXAMPLE, NICK CHOU RAN A ABOUT EVERY TWO WEEKS, HE RAN A ZOOM MEETINGS. MEETINGS WITH THAT INCLUDED MAINTENANCE AND CUSTODIAL AND TECHNOLOGY AND FOOD SERVICE AND ALL THE OTHER SUPPORT DEPARTMENTS, AND JUST STAYED COORDINATED ABOUT ALL THESE PROJECTS BECAUSE ALL EVERYTHING SEEMS TO AFFECT EVERYTHING ELSE. AND YOU KNOW, AND AND ALSO, YOU KNOW, BUILDING USAGE AND ALL THESE THINGS. AND THERE WAS JUST SUCH A GREAT COLLABORATIVE EFFORT SO THAT ALL THESE PROJECTS WERE ABLE TO COME OFF AND BOTH GET DONE, BUT ALSO WITH A MINIMUM DISRUPTION OF ANYTHING ELSE. AND IT WAS JUST A WONDERFUL THING TO SEE HAPPEN. SO ARE THERE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS? WELL, AGAIN, THANK YOU VERY MUCH, AND I HOPE WE WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO TOUR YOU AROUND SOME OF THESE PROJECTS. CERTAINLY SPRUCE. [01:05:02] IT'LL BE A FEW MONTHS BEFORE I THINK THE THE ACTUAL CONSTRUCTION OF THE BUILDING IS FAR ENOUGH ALONG. THERE'S SOMETHING, SOMETHING REALLY TO SEE AND WHERE YOU'LL GET A SENSE OF WHAT THE BUILDING IS GOING TO BE. BUT TO THE EXTENT TO WHICH WE CAN DO THAT, WE CAN COORDINATE THAT. WE'D BE HAPPY TO DO IT. THANK YOU SO MUCH ED. THANK YOU. THIS IS GREAT, GREAT STUFF. AND DIRECTOR CHASE, I DO LOOK FORWARD TO FURTHER CONVERSATIONS ABOUT GETTING THOSE SOLAR AND OTHER SUSTAINABILITY FEATURES IN OUR SCHOOLS. FORGIVE ME, I WOULD I WOULD JUST MENTION THAT, FOR EXAMPLE, WHEN WE DESIGNED MADRONA, WE DESIGNED IT TO BE SOLAR READY, SO SO THAT THE STRUCTURE NOT JUST THE ROOF, BUT THE STRUCTURE UNDERNEATH THE ROOF REALLY WAS SUITABLE FOR PUTTING IN SOLAR PANELS. WE DIDN'T HAVE THE BUDGET TO PUT THE PANELS IN, BUT BUT WE ARE WE WE HAD THAT IN MIND AND WE WILL DO THAT WITH OAK HEIGHTS AS WELL. DO YOU DID YOU DO ANY COST ANALYSIS, YOU KNOW, SORT OF TO TO TALK ABOUT WHAT THE COST BENEFITS OF THE PANELS WOULD BE? IT WASN'T FEASIBLE. IT WASN'T A WAY TO ESTIMATE, LIKE WHEN YOU WOULD PAY, PAYBACK, RETURN ON INVESTMENT. YES. YES. YES, IT WAS POSSIBLE TO DO THAT AND THERE WAS NO WAY TO AFFORD THE THE INITIAL COST OF PUTTING IN THE PANELS. OK. DO YOU DO YOU REMEMBER WHAT THE SORT OF? WHAT DO YOU CALL IT, YOU KNOW, THE DATE, HOW LONG IT WOULD TAKE FOR FORGIVE ME, THAT WAS TOO LONG AGO. I CAN. I'LL BE HAPPY TO GO BACK AND TRY TO LOOK INTO THAT ANALYSIS, AND WE'RE HAPPY TO DISCUSS THAT IN THE FUTURE. YEAH, I WOULD JUST BE. THAT'S THE KIND OF INFORMATION I WOULD THINK THAT WE'D HAVE TO SHARE WITH THE TAXPAYERS IF WE'RE IF WE'RE TALKING ABOUT DOING STUFF LIKE THIS. SO THANKS. OK. AND NEXT, WE HAVE A REPORT ON A LEGISLATIVE AGENDA FOR THE DISTRICT. THANK YOU, AND I WANT TO REALLY THANK DIRECTOR CHASE AND DIRECTOR KILGORE FOR WORKING WITH STAFF, AND LYDIA AND HARMONY WERE PART OF THIS GROUP THAT FOR THE BOARD'S PRESENTATION, IF YOU CAN PULL THE THE PLATFORM UP, IT'S A IT'S A DRAFT PLATFORM FOR DISCUSSION FOR FOR YOU, THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS, AND SEE WHAT DIRECTION YOU LIKE FOR US TO MOVE FORWARD WITH. I DO WANT TO ECHO THE APPRECIATION OF LYDIA AND HARMONY WORKING ON THIS WITHOUT YOUR EXPERTISE AND WORK ON THIS, WE WOULDN'T HAVE A PLATFORM TO PRESENT. SO THANK YOU VERY MUCH. SO THIS IS WE'RE COMING UP ON THE LEGISLATIVE SESSION IN 2022 AND THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY FOR LEGISLATIVE PLATFORM DOES FOR US IS IT ALLOWS US TO PRESENT ISSUES OF IMPORTANCE TO EDMONDS. I LOOK AT THIS AS A LIVING DOCUMENT THAT AS WE HAVE DIFFERENT PRESSURES ACROSS THE DISTRICT, WE CAN USE OUR POSITION TO ADVOCATE TO OUR LAWMAKERS SPECIFIC NEEDS OF THE DISTRICT. AND SO I REALLY LIKE THIS BROAD OVERVIEW AND THIS IS REALLY OPEN FOR DISCUSSION FOR ALL THE DIRECTORS AND ANYONE HERE ON HOW WE MIGHT WORK TO MAKE THIS BETTER, HOW WE CAN USE THIS, HOW WE CAN USE SPECIFIC EXAMPLES IN OUR DISTRICT TO SHOWCASE OUR NEED AND HOW LAWMAKERS SHOULD BE SUPPORTING EDMONDS. DIRECTOR CHASE, I HAVE A QUESTION I THINK ABOUT WHERE THE LEGISLATURE IS ON UPDATING THE PROTOTYPICAL MODEL. I'LL PROBABLY BE ABLE TO ANSWER THAT AFTER I HAVE A MEETING WITH THE FOLKS ABOUT THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY. OK. AND JUST IF THERE YOU KNOW, I KNOW THAT THERE HAS BEEN WORK OVER THE YEARS, I GUESS THAT I'VE BEEN PAYING ATTENTION TO ADDRESS IT AND IT. WOULD IT BE HELPFUL FOR OUR DISTRICT TO SAY, FOR INSTANCE, VERY SPECIFICALLY THAT YOU PAY FOR ONE NURSE FOR OUR WHOLE DISTRICT? OR IS IT THREE NURSES? MAYBE, BUT WE ACTUALLY NEED 15 OR 30 OR WHATEVER THE NUMBER IS, AND AND IF THAT WOULD BE HELPFUL. ABSOLUTELY. TO PREPARE REPORTS LIKE THAT. THAT THAT IS ONE OF THE THINGS THAT SPECIFICS, YOU KNOW, KNOWING THAT WE'RE FUNDED FOR [01:10:04] WHAT I BELIEVE IT'S TWO NURSES, IS THAT CORRECT LYDIA? WE TALKED ABOUT THIS THE OTHER DAY, BUT IT'S COMPLETELY INADEQUATE FOR OUR DISTRICT. AND SO THOSE TYPE OF SPECIFIC EXAMPLES DEFINITELY ARE HELPFUL TO HAVE THIS REALIZATION THAT OF THE WORK THAT'S REALLY GOING ON IN THE DISTRICT. SO SHORT ANSWER IS YES. AND AS THOSE THOSE AS THINGS CHANGE THIS, THIS KIND OF A GENERAL PLATFORM GIVES US THE FLEXIBILITY TO AS OUR SITUATIONS CHANGE TO BRING THOSE SPECIFIC DETAILS INTO THE CONVERSATIONS. SO THIS IS THIS. I LOOK AT THIS AS A STARTING POINT. RIGHT. SO SO THAT WE CAN HAVE A FOUNDATION THAT WE CAN LOOK AT SPECIFIC BILLS COMING UP AND BRING THOSE SPECIFIC THINGS ABOUT EDMONDS FORWARD. SO I AGREE. A HUNDRED PERCENT, YES. THIS IS ANN, I REALLY APPRECIATE THE WAY THIS IS PRESENTED. I KNOW ONE THING THAT THAT I'VE HEARD OVER THE YEARS FOR LEGISLATORS IS THEY GET SO MUCH INFORMATION. I REALLY APPRECIATE THAT IT'S KIND OF IT'S FIVE. IT'S A ONE PAGER FRONT AND BACK IT. IT EXPLAINS VERY QUICKLY WHAT THE ISSUE IS AND HOW IT IMPACTS EDMONDS. AND SO I FOUND THIS CONCISE AND AND SOMETHING THAT CAN BE REFERENCED IN GREATER DETAIL. WHEN, WHEN, WHEN WE COMMUNICATE WITH OUR LEGISLATORS. BUT I REALLY LIKE THIS BECAUSE I THOUGHT IT WAS SOMETHING THAT COULD ACTUALLY TAKE WITH THEM, REMEMBER? AND IT JUST PUTS KIND OF THE AREAS THAT THEY'RE RESPONSIBLE FOR INTO PERSPECTIVE AS FAR AS OUR DISTRICT IS CONCERNED. SO I WHEN I LOOKED IT OVER, I WAS JUST REALLY IMPRESSED. THAT'S THE ONE THING I WOULD LIKE TO SEE IN THERE IS TRANSPORTATION. I REALLY THINK THAT THEY NEED TO PROVIDE FUNDING AND INCENTIVES FOR DISTRICTS TO UPGRADE THEIR FLEETS TO HYBRID OR ALL ELECTRIC. RIGHT NOW, THE DEPRECIATION SCHEDULE ON DIESEL BUSSES DOES NOT SUPPORT BUYING A HYBRID OR ALL ELECTRIC BUS. AND SO I THINK THEY NEED. AND SO NO SCHOOL DISTRICT IS EVER GOING TO GET ANY BECAUSE THEY BUY THEIR BUSSES BASED UPON THE CURRENT DEPRECIATION SCHEDULE. AND SO I THINK THAT THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED TO PROVIDE INCENTIVES OR, YOU KNOW, MAYBE EQUAL COSTS TO DISTRICTS AND HAVING THE SUPPORT, HAVING THE STATE PAY THE DIFFERENCE SO THAT DISTRICTS CAN BUY FUEL EFFICIENT BUSSES TO REPLACE THEIR OLD DIESEL ONES INSTEAD OF JUST REPLACING DIESEL WITH DIESEL? YOU THINKING ABOUT THAT? WE SHOULD PUT THAT IN IN THIS OR THING? OR DO YOU THINK WE SHOULD HAVE A FULL CLIMATE ENERGY POLICY FOR THE DISTRICT? THAT THAT WOULD BE ADDRESSED IN? SO BEFORE WE ANSWER THAT QUESTION, GARY, I BELIEVE THAT THE DEPRECIATION PIECE HAS ALREADY BEEN ADDRESSED BY THE LEGISLATOR, AND DR. BALDERAS MIGHT BE ABLE TO CONFIRM WHETHER OR NOT THIS IS TRUE. THAT WHEN HE AND I WENT TO THE ELECTRIC AND LYDIA ALSO WENT TO THE ELECTRIC BUS DEMONSTRATION, THEY SAID THE PROBLEM WITH GOING ELECTRIC IS THE INITIAL. THE INITIAL COST OF THESE BUSSES IS SO HIGH. BUT THAT THE ACTUAL THE PROBLEM WITH THE MEDIATION PIECE HAS BEEN ADDRESSED. NO, THAT'S WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT. MULTIPLE SPEAKERS] NOW THEY WILL DEPRECIATE IT AT THE LEVEL OF. BUT THEY WILL, BUT THE DEPRECIATION PIECE HAD NOT BEEN SOLVED UNTIL RECENTLY, AND I THINK IT HAS SO THAT IF WE ACTUALLY WERE ABLE TO BUY THEM, THEN THEY WOULD GIVE US DEPRECIATION BACK AT THE LEVEL OF THE ELECTRIC BUS AND NOT THE DIESEL BUS. I AGREE. OK, WELL, THAT WOULD BE PROBABLY THE CASE. THE PROBLEM IS IS WE HAVE TO USE THE DEPRECIATION ON A DIESEL BUS IN ORDER TO PURCHASE THE ELECTRIC BUS, AND THERE'S NO WAY TO DO THAT. AND SO YOU'RE NEVER GOING TO GET THERE. WELL, THE ONLY WAY TO GET THERE WOULD BE A AS WE'VE TALKED ABOUT BEFORE, SOME SORT OF SPECIAL LEVY WHERE UNFORTUNATELY, UNLESS SOMETHING HAPPENS TO THE TAXPAYERS OF OUR DISTRICT WOULD NEED TO RECOGNIZE THAT AS A COMMUNITY VALUE AND FRONTLOAD THE COST OF THE OF GOING ELECTRIC. I THINK IT'S A WORTHY GOAL TO HAVE, YOU KNOW. THAT'S WHY I WAS THINKING. ALONG THE LINES OF A POLICY IN GENERAL, BECAUSE WE WERE JUST EARLIER TALKING ABOUT SOLAR, [01:15:03] NOW WE'RE TALKING ABOUT ELECTRIC BUSSES, AND FOR ME, THAT KIND OF GOES INTO GREEN BUILDING PRACTICES AND ENERGY EFFICIENCY. AND I THINK THAT IT'S NOT JUST AN ISSUE FOR TRANSPORTATION, I THINK IT'S A BROADER, YOU KNOW, BROADER FOR OUR ENTIRE DISTRICT. AND I'VE BEEN THINKING ABOUT DOING THAT ANYWAYS, RIGHT? IT'S JUST A CLIMATE POLICY AND GETTING SOME INPUT ON THAT, AND I THINK THAT'S THAT'S THIS WHOLE CONVERSATION IS EXACTLY WHY I THINK WE NEED SOMETHING LIKE THAT IN THE DISTRICT. SO I THINK THAT'S A REALLY GOOD IDEA CARIN AND TYING IT IN WITH THE DISCUSSION WE JUST HAD WITH ED ABOUT GOING SOLAR FOR OUR SCHOOLS, I MEAN, OUR SCHOOLS ARE BUILT TO LAST FOR A LONG TIME. SO IF WE COULD GET THAT INITIAL COST OF SOLAR SUPPORTED THROUGH STATE HELP OR OTHER ASSISTANCE, IT WOULD IN THE LONG RUN BE VERY BENEFICIAL IN SO MANY WAYS. I THINK YOUR IDEA OF HAVING A PIECE HERE THAT MAY BE A MORE GENERAL CLIMATE PIECE OR ENVIRONMENTAL PIECE, I DON'T KNOW WHAT WE WANT TO CALL. IT MIGHT BE A GOOD IDEA. FOR THIS PARTICULAR PLATFORM, I THINK THIS IS THIS IS, I THINK, REALLY GOOD FOR THE 2022 LEGISLATIVE SESSION, AND I THINK WE REALLY WANT TO THINK ABOUT AND BE THOUGHTFUL ABOUT DEVELOPING A POLICY OR A VISION FOR THE DISTRICT BECAUSE AS YOU HEARD ED, WE ALREADY GOT MADRONA READY FOR SOLAR. AND SO I THINK THERE'S SO MANY THINGS IN THE DISTRICT THAT WE'RE DOING THAT ARE FORWARD THINKING AND ENERGY EFFICIENCIES THAT PART OF PART OF THIS WHOLE DISCUSSION IS AN AUDIT ACROSS THE DISTRICT. WHAT ARE WE DOING ALREADY? AND LET'S CELEBRATE THAT BECAUSE WE'RE NOT STARTING AT GROUND ZERO KIND OF CODIFYING WHAT WE'RE ALREADY DOING AND LOOKING AT HOW WE CAN DO BETTER. AND I'D LIKE TO SEE, YOU KNOW, A GROUP GO FORWARD AND DO THAT AUDIT, AS WELL AS THINK ABOUT HOW TO BUILD ON THAT, ON WHAT'S BEING DONE, HOW TO, YOU KNOW, FOR INSTANCE, I KNOW WE HAVE A LOT OF EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS OR PROGRAMS IN DIFFERENT SCHOOLS, YOU KNOW, GARDENS AND AND AND CLASSES AND THINGS LIKE THAT AND STUDENT CLUBS THAT ARE RELATED TO SUSTAINABILITY AND CLIMATE AND CAN HOW CAN WE BUILD ON THOSE SUCCESSES AND AND SHARE THE KNOWLEDGE ACROSS THE DISTRICT AND THOSE SORTS OF THINGS? SO I AGREE WITH YOU THAT I'D LIKE TO SEE A REALLY INTENTIONAL PROCESS TOWARDS A CLIMATE POLICY. YOU KNOW, WHEN WE WHEN WE ARE ABLE TO DO THAT. AND WHAT I CAN DO IS I CAN WORK ON BOARD LEADERSHIP AND SEE WHAT WE CAN DO AND AND SEE THE IMPACT ON GREEN POLICIES BECAUSE THERE IS AN IMPACT. AND AGAIN, I COME FROM MY LAST DISTRICT, I CALL IT THE BERKELEY OF THE NORTH BECAUSE AGAIN, WE HAD EVERY POLICY THAT WAS GREEN POSSIBLE AND THERE WAS AN IMPACT AND WAS A COST TO THAT. SO I THINK TO YOUR POINT, DIRECTOR CHASE, IT'S THE PURPOSE OF WHY IT'S NOT TO SAVE MONEY. SOMETIMES IT'S NOT TO SAVE MONEY. SO WE NEED TO BE REALLY CLEAR TO THE WHY WE'RE DOING WHAT WE'RE DOING. BECAUSE AGAIN, SOLAR, SOMETIMES YOU DON'T SAVE MONEY. IT'S NOT A COST. IT'S A DIFFERENT FUNCTION. IT'S MORE OF A GREEN SUSTAINABILITY. AND I'VE HAD THIS DISCUSSION WITH IN THE PAST SEVERAL TIMES. SO I THINK UNDERSTANDING WHAT WE'RE CURRENTLY ARE DOING, WHICH WOULD BE REALLY HELPFUL FOR FOR THE BOARD TO UNDERSTAND AND THE COMMUNITY UNDERSTAND AND THE IMPACT ON THAT AND WHAT WE CAN POSSIBLY DO AND SCALE THAT OUT OVER THE NEXT FEW YEARS BECAUSE I THINK IT'S I THINK IT'S ALL ENCOMPASSING FROM WHAT HAPPENS IN CURRICULUM IN THE CLASSROOM TO WHAT HAPPENS IN THE SCHOOL FUNCTIONS WITH SCHOOL GARDENS AND OTHER ACTIVITIES. THERE'S OTHER ACTIVITIES THAT THAT THAT HAPPEN IN SCHOOL THAT DO INVOLVE A LOT OF SUSTAINABILITY EFFORTS. AND AGAIN, ESPECIALLY RIGHT NOW, WITH THE CLIMATE CHANGE BEING VERY, VERY MUCH IN FRONT OF US, IS WHAT THAT COULD LOOK LIKE IN THE FUTURE AND IN TERMS OF THE CURRICULUM, BUT ALSO WHAT HAPPENS IN SCHOOLS, BUT ALSO WHAT HAPPENS TO OUR BUILDINGS, WHICH IS AND HOW WE BUILD IN THE FUTURE AND GETTING CLARITY IF WE DO HAVE, FOR EXAMPLE, MADRONA ARE ALREADY SET TO BE ABLE TO HAVE SOLAR. YOU KNOW WHAT, WHAT WOULD BE THE COST AND WHAT WOULD BE THE COLLECTIVE WILL OF THE BOARD TO BE ABLE TO DO THAT OR AS STATED EARLIER TRANSPORTATION, I THINK I TALKED TO TRANSPORTATION, I THINK IT'S LIKE $35 MILLION TO REPLACE OUR FLEET. BUT ONCE YOU REPLACE A FLEET, WE'RE REMIND THE BOARD YOU ALWAYS HAVE TO. YOU ALREADY HAVE TO START SAVING MONEY FOR THAT REPLACEMENT CYCLE IF YOU REPLACE A WHOLE FLEET. IT TAKES A LOT OF MONEY TO REPLACE BUSSES. SO IT JUST WHAT IS THE LONG TERM PLAN. AND I LOOK FORWARD TO THAT CONVERSATION BECAUSE I THINK THIS THIS DISTRICT IS ABSOLUTELY PERFECT FOR THIS DISCUSSION BECAUSE AGAIN, I THINK WE DO HAVE THE COLLECTIVE WILL OF THE COMMUNITY FOR THIS. WELL, I AGREE [INAUDIBLE], AND I JUST THINK THAT YOU OUGHT TO AT [01:20:06] LEAST CONSIDER THE IDEA THAT CARIN HAD OF HAVING AN ITEM, A SIXTH ITEM ON THE SEAT SUSTAINABILITY BECAUSE THAT'S CERTAINLY JAY INSLEE'S BIG PUSH. AND SO WE HAVE A GOVERNOR THAT TOTALLY SUPPORTS THIS EFFORT, AND IT MIGHT BE THE OPPORTUNITY TO GET SOME CHANGES, PARTICULARLY FOR SCHOOL, BECAUSE WE'RE SUCH A LARGE SYSTEM INSIDE THE STATE. CARIN, I'M WONDERING, WHAT ARE OUR NEXT STEPS WITH THIS, AND I THINK THIS DOCUMENT YOU'VE PUT TOGETHER IS REALLY GREAT, I'M WONDERING IF THE ORDER, IF WE NEED TO THINK IF TO WHAT EXTENT YOU'VE GIVEN THOUGHT TO THE ORDER AND IF TO WHAT EXTENT THAT MATTERS. SO THAT'S SORT OF ONE QUESTION. AND THE OTHER QUESTION IS WHAT ARE NEXT STEPS? WHAT'S THE SEQUENCE OF EVENTS THAT HAPPEN WITH COMMUNICATING THIS TO THE PROPER PEOPLE? WELL, I THINK THIS IS THE FIRST TIME WE'VE ACTUALLY DONE IT THIS WAY. WE'VE ALWAYS HAD A DOCUMENT THAT WE'VE USED, BUT WE HAVEN'T DONE A BOARD PRESENTATION. IT'S BEEN AVAILABLE ON OUR WEBSITE, BUT WE HAVEN'T DISCUSSED IT WAS LIKE A SMALL COMMITTEE PUT IT TOGETHER. SO I WOULD SAY AS FAR FOR ME PERSONALLY, AS FAR AS THE ORDER OF THE WAY THE THE ITEMS ARE, I HAVE NOT GIVEN MUCH THOUGHT TO THAT ORDER. I WOULD THINK IF LYDIA OR GUSTAVO HAD ANY THOUGHTS ON THAT OR HARMONY, I WAS FINE WITH HOW IT IS AS FAR AS NEXT STEPS AS WE COULD FORMALLY ADOPT THIS. OR WE COULD JUST LOOK AT THIS AS A REPORT. THIS IS A LIVING DOCUMENT THAT WE CAN UPDATE AS NEEDED. SO IF I CAN MAKE A RECOMMENDATION, MAYBE ADD SOMETHING FOR CONSIDERATION FOR THE BOARD, AND WE CAN INCLUDE A THE TOPIC OF SUSTAINABILITY. AS STATED EARLIER AND SEND IT OUT TO THE BOARD FOR REVIEW AND IT WOULD BE GREAT IF WE CAN ADOPT IT AS A BOARD IN A FUTURE MEETING. ONCE WE GET THAT PIECE TAKEN CARE OF, WE CAN WORDSMITH IT, MAYBE AT THE NEXT BOARD MEETING. SOUNDS GOOD TO ME. IT WOULD BE GREAT IF WE AND WE CAN THEM FORMALLY ADOPT IT AND MAKE SURE WE GET SOME LANGUAGE IN THERE. ON SUSTAINABILITY, THAT WORKS FOR ME. AND THEN HOW DO WE GET THIS TO THE LEGISLATORS? OH OH, WE SET UP APPOINTMENTS. SO WITH THE LEGISLATIVE SESSION, THE LEGISLATIVE REPRESENTATIVES SET UP APPOINTMENTS WITH ALL OF THEIR OWN LEGISLATORS. AND ONE THING THAT'S NEW THAT WE'RE GOING TO TRY OUT THIS YEAR THAT I HAVEN'T TOLD OUR SUPERINTENDENT ABOUT IS DOING MEETINGS THROUGHOUT THE COUNTY WITH THE SCHOOL DISTRICT PRESIDENTS AND THE SUPERINTENDENTS THROUGHOUT THE COUNTY TO JUST DISCUSS ISSUES AS A COUNTY, AS YOU KNOW, WE CAN ONLY WE CAN TALK TO OTHER SCHOOL DISTRICTS AS A GROUP AT THESE MEETINGS. AND THERE'S GOING TO BE SOME DISCUSSION ON STARTING TO DO THAT SO THAT WE CAN HAVE A STRONGER COLLECTIVE VOICE IN THAT. THEN THIS KIND OF A DOCUMENT WOULD BE SHARED NOT ONLY WITH OUR LAWMAKERS, BUT OTHER SCHOOL DISTRICTS AS TO SHOW THAT THIS IS WHAT WE'RE DOING. WHAT ARE YOU DOING, THAT KIND OF THING? SO THE NEXT STEP IS WE'D HAVE THIS DOCUMENT. WE SHARE IT WITH OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS AND SET UP SOME APPOINTMENTS TO DISCUSS SPECIFICS RELEVANT TO OUR DISTRICT AND HOW THEY CAN IMPACT THE LEGISLATION THAT'S GOING TO BE COMING FORWARD. TO WHAT EXTENT WOULD IT BE POSSIBLE AND OR BENEFICIAL TO COLLABORATE WITH OTHER DISTRICTS IN THE COUNTY TO HAVE A JOINT SORT OF LEGISLATIVE PLATFORM THAT A LOT OF DISTRICTS AGREE TO? OR IS THAT? WOULD THAT BE TOO DIFFICULT TO TRY TO MAKE HAPPEN? WELL, WE'VE GOT TO START WITH THE FIRST STEP IN SETTING UP SOME MEETINGS AND THEN JUST BRINGING THAT UP. I MEAN, THAT'S IN, YOU KNOW, WITH COUNTIES. YOU KNOW, WE TAKE A LOOK AT SNOHOMISH COUNTY. THERE ARE A NUMBER OF SCHOOL DISTRICTS HERE. AND SO I THINK IT'S TIME TO START THE CONVERSATION. NOTHING, NOTHING'S DIFFICULT UNTIL YOU TAKE THE HARDEST PART IS THE FIRST STEP, I THINK. SO THINKING ABOUT DOING THE FIRST STEP AND THEN BRINGING THIS FORWARD AND SEEING AND SEEING THE COLLECTIVE WILL OF THE COUNTY AND THE THE THE STAKEHOLDERS THERE, YOU KNOW, THE [INAUDIBLE] CONFERENCE IS COMING UP NEXT MONTH. AND SO IT MIGHT, YOU KNOW, MIGHT NOT BE A BAD IDEA TO JUST INFORMALLY MEET WITH SOME OF THE OTHER SCHOOL DISTRICT DIRECTORS FROM SNOHOMISH COUNTY AT THE CONFERENCE. KIND OF GET THEIR FEEDBACK AND AND JUST SEE WHAT THEY'RE THINKING. YOU CAN DO IT ON THE INFORMAL LEVEL BECAUSE IT'S A LITTLE BIT MORE CONVENIENT BECAUSE PEOPLE ARE ACTUALLY GOING TO BE THERE AND YOU'LL BE SEEING THEM IN SESSIONS AND BREAKOUT [01:25:03] SESSIONS IN THOSE SORTS OF THINGS. SO AS A MATTER OF FACT, AND WE'RE DOING THE THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY IS THIS WEEKEND AND DISTRICT AREA ONE IS MEETING INFORMALLY TOMORROW TO DISCUSS THOSE LEGISLATIVE POSITIONS, AND THIS TOPIC HAS BEEN BROUGHT UP ALREADY. AND SO IT WAS BROUGHT UP THIS LAST WEEKEND AT THE ONE MEETING. AND SO YOU'RE THINKING ALONG THE SAME LINES AS AS PRETTY MUCH EVERYBODY ELSE THAT WE START DISCUSSING THIS RIGHT NOW AND SEE WHAT WILL WORK. CARIN, I JUST WANTED TO MENTION, I WAS REALLY PLEASED TO SEE THAT YOU'RE NOMINATED FOR THE [INAUDIBLE] LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE AND WE'RE WE'RE BEHIND YOU. IT WOULD BE GREAT TO HAVE YOU PLAYING THAT ROLE AT THE STATE LEVEL. THAT WOULD BE GREAT. THANK YOU, NANCY. SO WE'LL PUT THIS ON THE AGENDA FOR THE NEXT MEETING, IS THAT WHAT I JUST HEARD? AND WE'LL HAVE SOME UPDATED LANGUAGE AND THEN WE CAN FORMALLY ADOPT IT AND KEEP MOVING FORWARD. THANK YOU, DIRECTOR CHASE. OK. NEXT, WE HAVE NEW BUSINESS. [11. NEW BUSINESS 8:30 pm] OUR FIRST ITEM IS A SINGLE READING TO APPROVE RESOLUTION NUMBER 21-31 EMERGENCY DECLARATION FOR HVAC AT BEVERLEY ELEMENTARY. IS THERE A MOTION? THIS IS ANN MOVE TO APPROVE. I SECOND IT. IT'S BEEN MOVED AND SECONDED TO ADOPT TO APPROVE RESOLUTION 21-31. IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION? THIS IS ANN I JUST WANTED TO SAY THANK YOU FOR NOT WAITING FOR UNDERSTANDING THE EMERGENT SITUATION THAT WAS HERE AND GETTING THIS THING FIXED FOR OUR KIDS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. HEARING NO FURTHER DISCUSSION, I'LL GO AHEAD AND CALL FOR A ROLL CALL VOTE, PLEASE. DIRECTOR MCMURRAY. AYE. DIRECTOR NOBLE. AYE. DIRECTOR CHASE. AYE. DIRECTOR KATIMS. AYE. DIRECTOR KILGORE. AYE. THE MOTION PASSES AND THE RESOLUTION 21-31 IS APPROVED. NEXT, WE HAVE A FIRST READING, NO ACTION TO REVISE POLICY 62-13 REIMBURSEMENT FOR TRAVEL EXPENSES. IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION OR QUESTIONS? I JUST I THINK THIS WAS EXPLAINED TO US THAT THIS IN THE LEADERSHIP MEETING, THAT THIS WOULD GREATLY REDUCE SOME ADMINISTRATIVE COSTS TO DO IT THIS WAY, AND I THINK IT'S A GREAT IDEA. OK, MOVING [12. PUBLIC COMMENTS 8:45 pm] ON, THEN, I'D LIKE TO OPEN IT UP FOR FINAL COMMENTS FROM OUR STUDENTS AND THEN FROM OUR [13. BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS] BOARD. COULD WE HAVE A GALLERY VIEW, PLEASE? THANK YOU. I SEE ALL YOUR FACES AGAIN. ISABEL, DO YOU HAVE ANY FURTHER COMMENTS FOR TONIGHT? THANK YOU FOR ALL THE PRESENTATIONS AND FOR ALL THE GREAT INFORMATION. AND SCHOOL WISE, WITH COVID AND EVERYTHING, IT'S JUST REALLY HARD TO KEEP SEEING MORE CASES. MORE AND MORE CASES LIKE ESPECIALLY WITH THE FOOTBALL TEAM LIKE THAT WAS REALLY DISAPPOINTING, BUT THAT'S JUST HOW IT IS RIGHT NOW. SO I GUESS LUCKILY WE HAVE FIGURED OUT HOW TO GET THROUGH IT. AND YEAH, AND ALSO I'D LIKE TO MAKE LIKE A POSITIVE COMMENT ON OUR COLLEGE AND CAREER TEACHER OR PERSON THAT WORKS FOR OUR SCHOOL. SHE HAS HELPED SO MUCH AND I KNOW LIKE FROM MULTIPLE STUDENTS, I MEAN, TODAY SHE SPENT LIKE FORTY FIVE MINUTES WITH ME, JUST BY MYSELF, I JUST LIKE WALKED INTO HER OFFICE. IT WAS DURING LUNCH TIME AND SHE WAS JUST EXTREMELY HELPFUL. AND IT'S HER FIRST YEAR AT OUR SCHOOL AND IT'S JUST INCREDIBLE. I DON'T KNOW WHAT I'D DO WITHOUT HER. SO, YEAH, THANK YOU. LIA, I SEE YOU NEXT. OH, OK, GO AHEAD. I'D LIKE TO THANK EVERYBODY FOR THEIR PRESENTATIONS. IT WAS REALLY INTERESTING TO SEE THE SPRUCE ELEMENTARY PROGRESS. I HAVE SOME COUSINS WHO GO OVER THERE AND THEY'VE BEEN ALL THEY HAVE BEEN TALKING ABOUT [01:30:05] IS THE NEW BUILDING AND HOW THEY'RE SO EXCITED TO GET BACK INTO THAT BUILDING. YEAH. GREAT, THANK YOU, BELLA. YEAH, I JUST WANTED TO SAY THANK YOU AND ALSO. FOR SCHOOL WISE AND LIKE COVID WISE, I'VE JUST BEEN REALLY GRATEFUL FOR, LIKE, ESPECIALLY FOR DRAMA BECAUSE WE'RE PUTTING ON OUR FIRST PLAY RIGHT NOW LIKE WE'RE DOING REHEARSALS RIGHT NOW AND I'M JUST REALLY HAPPY THERE'S BEEN. LIKE NO COVID CASES, AT LEAST IN THAT SECTION OF OUR SCHOOL, LIKE NO DRAMA KIDS HAVE GOT HAD TO QUARANTINE YET. SO IT JUST SHOWS WE'RE BEING SAFE AND DOING THE BEST WE CAN TO DISTANCE OURSELVES AND ALL THAT, AND I'M JUST REALLY EXCITED TO BE BACK IN THE THEATER ACTUALLY BEING ABLE TO NORMALLY. PUT ON A. PUT ON LIKE A SHOW. IT'S GOING TO BE IT'S REALLY EXCITING RIGHT NOW, AND I'M EXCITED ON HOW IT'S GOING RIGHT NOW. I'M GRATEFUL FOR IT. YEAH. EXCELLENT, WELL, DO YOU KNOW WHEN THE SHOW IS? YEAH, IT'S DECEMBER 9TH THROUGH THE 11TH IS WHEN WE'LL BE SHOWING IT. IT'S AN ADAPTATION OF PETER PAN CALLED NEVERLAND. IT'S VERY. DIFFERENT, VERY DIFFERENT, WHICH IS GOOD. VERY DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES. I'M EXCITED. WELL DEFINITELY BE SURE AND REMIND US, SHARE THE DATES AS IT GETS CLOSER. DANIEL? FIRST OFF, I JUST WANTED TO SAY THANK YOU AGAIN FOR ALL THE PRESENTATIONS. YOUR OAK HEIGHTS PRESENTATION KIND OF BROUGHT ME BACK MEMORIES BECAUSE IT WAS LIKE THE VERY FIRST SCHOOL THAT I ATTENDED HERE AT EDMONDS BACK IN KINDERGARTEN. BUT YEAH, AND COVID WISE, I WOULD SAY I AM KIND OF CONCERNED, WITH THE CASE IS STILL RISING IN THE EDMONDS SCHOOL DISTRICT. I FEEL LIKE THERE ARE SOME ASPECTS AT MY SCHOOL, PARTICULARLY WHERE WE COULD TRY AND CHANGE TO MAYBE LOWER THE TRANSMISSION RATE. FOR EXAMPLE, THERE'S LIKE. MAYBE SPACE IS THE PROBLEM I DON'T KNOW ABOUT LUNCHES ARE VERY LIKE ONE OF THOSE PLACES WHERE NO ONE REALLY HAS THEIR MASKS ON BECAUSE THEY'RE EATING, BUT THEN THEY CAN ALSO TRANSMIT COVID THROUGH THAT WAY. AND IT'S JUST KIND OF MAYBE WE COULD CHANGE STUFF LIKE THAT AND LIKE PASSING PERIODS WHERE YOU KIND OF HAVE TO WALK LIKE RIGHT NEXT TO EVERYONE. IT'S KIND OF CONCERNING, BUT IT'S JUST REALLY FUN TO BE BACK HERE IN SCHOOL IN PERSON AND JUST A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO END MY TIMES HERE AT EDMONDS. YEAH. THANK YOU. AND ROSHNI. HI, I JUST LIKE TO SAY THANK YOU TO ALL THE BOARD MEMBERS AND STAFF FOR PUTTING IN THE EFFORT AND TIME TO LET THE KIDS COME BACK TO SCHOOL. SCHOOL HAS BEEN GREAT. I'VE BEEN FINALLY GETTING BACK TO DOING NORMAL STUFF AND COVID WISE, I FEEL I GO TO EDMONDS [INAUDIBLE]. I THINK LUNCHTIME IS A LITTLE BIT OF A CONCERN. BUT OTHER THAN THAT, I FEEL LIKE EVERYBODY'S COOPERATING. EVERYBODY'S WEARING THEIR MASKS. AND FOR THE MOST PART, LIKE WE CLEAN OUR DESKS AFTER CLASS AND TEACHERS ARE ON TOP OF THAT TYPE OF STUFF. OUR HOMECOMING GAME WAS CANCELED, WHICH WAS SAD, BUT WE DID GET A PEP RALLY IN THE MORNING, WHICH WAS REALLY NICE. SO THANK YOU. THANK YOU, STUDENTS. DIRECTOR MCMURRAY. I'VE ALREADY SAID MY THANKS TO THE PRINCIPALS. BUT, YOU KNOW, I WAS THINKING ABOUT THE H.R. DEPARTMENT AND THE TASK OF TRYING TO VERIFY THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS OF VACCINE STATUS AND WORKING THROUGH THE WAIVERS AND ALL THAT. AND IT WAS JUST A REMINDER TO ME THAT WE'RE STILL IN A TIME WHERE WE DON'T REALLY KNOW HOW THINGS ARE GOING TO GO, NECESSARILY EVEN A WEEK, TWO WEEKS A MONTH FROM NOW. AND OUR STAFF IN VARIOUS AREAS CONTINUES TO FIND WHATEVER IT IS THAT THEY NEED TO PUT TOGETHER TO MAKE SURE THAT OUR SCHOOLS ARE OPERATING AND OUR OUR KIDS HAVE TEACHERS AND [01:35:10] PARENTS AND AND FOOD SERVICE AND BUS DRIVERS. AND SO IT'S JUST A REMINDER TO ME TO STOP AND SAY THANK YOU TO THE VARIOUS DEPARTMENTS BECAUSE IT WAS IT WAS H.R. FOUR THIS PAST SEVERAL WEEKS. WHO KNOWS WHAT DEPARTMENT IT'S GOING TO BE IN A COUPLE OF WEEKS. BUT I HAVE GREAT CONFIDENCE THAT WE HAVE GOOD PEOPLE IN PLACE WHO ARE TRYING VERY, VERY HARD. AND AND SO I JUST I JUST WANT TO JUST SAY A PERSONAL THANK YOU BECAUSE I KNOW THAT IT MEANS EXTRA HOURS AND THAT NOBODY, NOBODY REALLY KNEW THAT THEY WERE GOING TO HAVE TO BE SPENDING. BUT SOMEHOW IT GETS PULLED TOGETHER. AND SO JUST WANT TO EXTEND MY APPRECIATION. THANK YOU. DIRECTOR NOBLE. YEAH, I JUST LIKE TO GIVE ANOTHER SHOUT OUT TO CAPITAL PROJECTS [INAUDIBLE] MIDDLE SCHOOL IS ONLY ABOUT A BLOCK AWAY FROM MY HOUSE, SO WHILE IT WAS BEING BUILT, I PROBABLY MADE A KIND OF A NUISANCE OF MYSELF. BUT I WAS INVITED AND WAS ABLE TO ATTEND MANY, MANY, MANY ON SITE STATUS MEETINGS DURING THE WHOLE BUILD PROCESS. AND I WAS JUST SO IMPRESSED WITH THE THE CAPITAL PROJECT TEAM. AND YOU WON'T BELIEVE THE NUMBER OF SMALL ISSUES AND NOT SO SMALL ISSUES THAT COME UP DURING BUILDING A VERY, VERY LARGE SCHOOL. BUT THEY ALL GET ADDRESSED SO EFFICIENTLY AND SO WELL. SO KUDOS TO THE CAPITAL PROJECTS TEAM. THEY REALLY, REALLY DO A GOOD JOB AND ARE TRULY PROFESSIONAL IN THEIR WORK. THANK YOU. DIRECTOR CHASE. THINK I COVERED THE LEGISLATIVE STUFF JUST JUST BRIEFLY, BUT REALLY, REALLY GLAD THAT WE HAVE THESE CELEBRATIONS AND RECOGNIZING THE WONDERFUL WORK OF STAFF ACROSS THE DISTRICT AND JUST LOOKING FORWARD TO SCHOOL TO CONTINUE TO BE OPEN. SO. DIRECTOR KATIMS. SO ANN I THINK YOU SAID IT REALLY WELL ABOUT THE HR DEPARTMENT AND HOW HARD THEY'RE WORKING. AND I WANT TO JUST POINT OUT HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE COVERING ALL KINDS OF POSITIONS. SO I KNOW PRINCIPALS ARE GOING OUT AND SUBBING IN CLASSROOMS. SO AND I WANT TO PARTICULARLY THANK THE PRINCIPALS WHO CAME TONIGHT BECAUSE I KNOW THEY'RE UNDER STRESS, BUT THEY STILL GAVE US TIME TO REPRESENT ALL THE PRINCIPALS FOR FOUR PRINCIPALS RECOGNITION. BUT BUT THE LIST OF TASKS THAT THEY DO IS OVERWHELMING. I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO ACTUALLY GO AND HELP THE FOOD SERVICE PEOPLE AT EDMONDS WOODWAY CREATE GRAB AND GO MEALS FOR STUDENTS. SO I GOT TO SEE THE WORK THAT THAT THOSE FOLKS ARE OUT THERE DOING SHORT STAFFED AND WORKING VERY HARD TO TRY TO GET IT DONE AND ENOUGH VOLUME IN TERMS OF GETTING IT DONE IN TIME. I THINK IT'S WONDERFUL TO HEAR THE WORK THAT'S GOING ON IN CAPITAL PROJECTS SO THAT ED AND HIS FOLKS ARE MOVING AHEAD WITH THAT WORK, DESPITE ALL OF THE OTHER CHALLENGES THAT ARE GOING ON. AND TO KIND OF END ON A POSITIVE NOTE, I REALLY APPRECIATED AND WILL CONTINUE TO APPRECIATE GOING WITH DR. BALDERAS OUT TO SCHOOLS. SO HE AND I WENT TO LINWOOD HIGH, VISITED AN ETHNIC STUDIES CLASS AN EL CLASS, A SCIENCE CLASS AND SOME OTHERS AND THE KIDS WERE JUST WONDERFUL INTERACTING WITH THEM AND THEM TALKING ABOUT WHAT THEY'RE LEARNING. JUST A GREAT REMINDER OF WHAT WE'RE ALL ABOUT AND HOW WE WILL SURVIVE THROUGH THIS AND GET BACK TO THE WORK OF LEARNING WHERE WE CAN REALLY GIVE IT COMPLETE FOCUS. BUT THANKS TO EVERYBODY WHO'S REALLY DOING THE HEAVY LIFTING. THANK YOU. AND I JUST WANT TO SAY A WORD, I WENT TO SHERWOOD ELEMENTARY TODAY AND I WANTED TO GIVE A SHOUT OUT TO THE PRINCIPAL THERE, ROBIN SALTZMAN, WHO IS NEW TO OUR DISTRICT BUT NOT NEW TO BEING A PRINCIPAL. AND JUST I WAS VERY IMPRESSED WITH NOT ONLY HER SKILL AND LEADERSHIP AND BUT ALSO HER PASSION FOR THE KIDS AND HER, HER JUST VERY WARM ENGAGEMENT WITH WITH EVERYONE SHE ENCOUNTERED IN THE SCHOOL. SO THANK YOU FOR HAVING US. AND I GUESS DIRECTOR KATIMS AND I BOTH WENT TO THE WOODWAY CENTER ABOUT A FEW WEEKS AGO. [01:40:07] AND SO THE PRINCIPAL THERE ARE ALSO DARCY BECKER WAS VERY IMPRESSIVE TO ME AS WELL. AND I THINK I THINK JUST THE THE VISION THAT THESE PRINCIPALS HAVE FOR THEIR SCHOOLS AND AND JUST BEING ABLE TO ROUND UP SUCH A DIVERSE GROUP OF OF PEOPLE AND GET THEM ALL HEADED IN THE SAME DIRECTION ON BEHALF OF THE CHILDREN IS JUST SO WONDERFUL. SO THANK YOU, PRINCIPALS AND I LOOK FORWARD TO MANY MORE VISITS IN THE SCHOOLS. AND JUST FINALLY, WE DO HAVE ELECTION DAY COMING UP. SO DON'T FORGET TO VOTE, EVERYBODY. THIS IS THIS IS HOW IT THIS VERY DIRECTLY AFFECTS YOU WHEN YOU VOTE FOR YOUR SCHOOL BOARD AND FOR YOUR CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS AND YOUR OTHER LOCAL OFFICIALS, IT VERY MUCH MAKES WHETHER THE KIDS ARE COMING TO SCHOOL OR NOT AND WHAT IT'S GOING TO LOOK LIKE. SO GET OUT THERE AND VOTE AND STUDENTS, IF YOU'RE ABLE TO VOTE, IT'S TIME FOR YOU TO VOTE TOO. AND I'LL JUST TURN IT OVER TO DR. BALDERAS FOR A LAST WORD. NO, JUST APPRECIATE THE CONVERSATION AND LOOK FORWARD TO TO THE TO THE WORK AHEAD IN OUR SUSTAINABILITY EFFORTS AND JUST MAKING SURE THAT AGAIN, WE PROVIDE A GOOD UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT WE ARE DOING. SO THANK YOU, DIRECTOR CHASE FOR BRINGING THAT FORWARD FOR OUR DISCUSSION. A FUTURE DISCUSSION. I KNOW WE HAVE A LOT GOING ON RIGHT NOW, JUST TRYING TO KEEP SCHOOLS OPEN, AND I THINK THIS IS THE WORK THAT I THINK THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS HERE REALLY WANTS TO GET INTO AND SORT OF STAFF IN TERMS OF OUR SUSTAINABILITY EFFORTS OR OR SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT EFFORTS AND MAKING SURE THAT AGAIN, WE'RE WE'RE WE'RE MOVING THE SYSTEM FORWARD INSTEAD OF JUST AGAIN. AND THAT'S THE WORK THAT EXCITES US. I KNOW RIGHT NOW BECAUSE THE KIDS. AND AGAIN, I HAVE A HABIT OF CALLING THEM KIDS. I'VE ALWAYS HAVE. SO STUDENTS, KIDS OUR STUDENTS ARE OUR FOCUS RIGHT NOW TRYING TO KEEP THEM IN SCHOOL AND WE WILL GET THROUGH THIS. BUT I THINK ONCE WE GET THE STRATEGIC PLAN DRAFTED OUT, WHICH IS GOING TO BE NEXT MONTH AND LOOK FORWARD TO OUR ACTION STEPS IN TERMS OF WHAT ARE YEAR ONE, YEAR TWO, YEAR THREE GOALS. I THINK THAT'S THAT'S A WORK THAT REALLY EXCITES ALL OF US BECAUSE THAT'S WHY WE'RE HERE FOR IN TERMS OF MOVING THE SYSTEM FORWARD. I APPRECIATE THE BOARD'S LEADERSHIP AND YOUR COMMITMENT TO THE DISTRICT AND OUR STUDENTS AND OUR BROADER COMMUNITY. SO THANK YOU. AND ON THAT NOTE, I WILL CALL THE MEETING ADJOURNED. HAVE A NICE EVENING. * This transcript was compiled from uncorrected Closed Captioning.
